You’re Seeing PDRN Everywhere, But Its Best Use May Surprise You

0

PDRN may have a new claim to fame beyond its buzzy skin-care benefits. A new report suggests that polydeoxyribonucleotide, or PDRN (aka “salmon sperm”), plays a vital role in post-procedure skin recovery, potentially making it a game-changer for anyone recovering from lasers, microneedling or other in-office treatments.

“Applied topically on post-procedure skin, it can help accelerate recovery, reduce redness and support collagen remodeling,” says New York dermatologist Connie Yang, MD.

As in-office treatments grow more popular, post-procedure recovery has become a bigger focus in regenerative aesthetic medicine, and PDRN has been leading the charge. “Patients increasingly want treatments that deliver results while minimizing downtime, prolonged redness and disruption to daily life,” says New York dermatologist Dr. Shereen Teymour.

“In aesthetic medicine, we’re often creating controlled inflammation in the skin through procedures like lasers or microneedling to stimulate collagen remodeling,” explains Dr. Teymour. “The idea behind using PDRN post-procedure is to help optimize the recovery phase by supporting barrier repair, reducing inflammation and improving overall healing quality.” The result: faster recovery, less redness, improved hydration and better tolerance of more intensive treatments.

Though the report is promising—even suggesting that PDRN makes biological sense to support post-surgical recovery for patients who’ve undergone aesthetic surgery—the evidence base remains limited. The consumer buzz around “salmon sperm facials” and other topical PDRN products suggests that “the marketing is moving faster than the science in some areas,” says Dr. Teymour. “I think PDRN is an exciting adjunct in regenerative aesthetics, but we still need larger, standardized studies before making overly broad claims.”

In the meantime, speak to your dermatologist or provider to see if PDRN is right for your recovery plan.

Summer Fridays Bronzer Butter Balm

0

Summer Fridays launched a new cream bronzer called the Bronzer Butter Balm ($27.20 each, six shades) along with a Bronzer Brush ($28).

If you love a dewy cream bronzer, I think you will really like the Summer Fridays Bronzer Butter Balms. Cream bronzers can be hit or miss on my skin especially with the Miami heat and humidity, but I put these to the test and I really like these! They’re dewy but they aren’t too emollient/glossy.

Summer Fridays Bronzer Butter Balm

If you like the Sarah Creal Just Like Paradise Bronzers, I think you will really like the ones from Summer Fridays. The ones from Sarah Creal are just the slightest more dewy, but they are really close to me in terms of texture and pigment.

Out of all six shades I like Clay and Desert the best for my skin tone. I like my bronzers a little bit warmer since cool/neutrals tend to pull grey on me. I shared a demo of both shades here. Clay is just a little more golden while Desert pulls a little more red.

Summer Fridays Bronzer Butter Balm Review Clay and Desert via The Beauty Lookbook

Based on your feedback, a lot of you seem to be drawn to Dune which is more of a neutral/cool tone. I find the lightest shade they created really interesting! I think if you struggle to find bronzers light enough in color, this particular one might work for you!

The angled Bronzer Brush is very well made. I like the minimalist design and the density is perfect. It’s also really soft and smooth. The brush blends the product to perfection on the skin. I also really love the Hourglass Ambient Soft Glow Foundation Brush, Hourglass Brush No 15, Fenty 195 and Laura Mercier Cheek Brush.

Lasting power for the bronzers seems to be decent for the temperature right now. I haven’t done an extended outdoor wear test, but indoors the lasting power is pretty good. Given that it’s a cream it does tend to look a little more dewy after 3-4 hours, but so far it still wears pretty well.

Overall love. If you have oily skin or need something with a longer wear, I’d opt for either the Dior Forever Skin Bronzing Balm Stick or Westman Atelier Sun Tone Crème Duos since those have a more satin finish and longer wear.

You can find the Summer Fridays Bronzer Butter Balms out now. Available at Sephora, Revolve and Summer Fridays.

7 Best Gel Moisturizers for Oily, Acne-Prone, and Combination Skin

0

Frequently Asked Questions

Will gel moisturizers pill under makeup?

Gel textures are generally among the most makeup-friendly moisturizers in your skin-care routine because they absorb quickly and leave a smooth, lightweight finish rather than a thick or greasy layer. That said, pilling can still happen depending on the formula and how many products you’re layering on top. “Silicone-heavy primers, certain sunscreens, or overapplying skin care can increase the chance of pilling,” says Dr. Collins. Her best advice: Let each layer fully absorb before moving on to the next step, especially before applying foundation or primer.

Do gel moisturizers clog pores?

Any product can contribute to breakouts if it contains pore-clogging ingredients like thicker waxes or heavier oils (coconut oil or cocoa butter, for example), says Dr. Collins. That said, a gel moisturizer is less likely to clog pores than a rich cream because they’re typically oil-free or contain fewer rich, occlusive ingredients. If you’re especially breakout-prone, look for lightweight formulas without heavy oils or fragrance and pay attention to how your skin responds over time.

Are there any drawbacks to using gel moisturizer?

Since they typically contain fewer rich, occlusive ingredients, “gel moisturizers may not lock in hydration as effectively as richer creams, especially if you have very dry, eczema-prone, mature, or dehydrated skin—or if you’re in low-humidity or cold climates,” says Dr. Collins. Another thing to watch for: Some gel formulas use alcohol or fragrance to enhance that lightweight, fast-drying feel, which can irritate sensitive skin. If your skin is reactive, Dr. Collins recommends sticking with fragrance-free moisturizers that include barrier-supporting ingredients like ceramides or niacinamide.

How we test and review products

When Allure tests a product, our editors look at it from every angle in an effort to best serve you. We review ingredients, scrutinize brand claims, and, when necessary, examine peer-reviewed scientific and medical studies. In addition to testing each and every product that’s included in each and every review, we rely on experts who shape their fields, including dermatology, cosmetic chemistry, and medicine, to help us vet the ingredients and formulas.

For our list of the best gel moisturizers, we considered each product’s performance across five primary categories: product ingredients and efficacy, packaging, fragrance, texture, and product wear. Every product was determined to have excelled in each category by our editorial team, which is composed of in-house writers and editors as well as contributors—along with special consideration from board-certified dermatologists. To learn more information on our reporting and testing processes, read our complete reviews process and methodology page.

Our staff and testers

A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine; you may simply be browsing around for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.

After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the “best” for people over 50 if the only testers we’ve solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it’s never been tested on curls? We’re proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.

Where is Katie Price’s husband?

0

Katie Price has dropped a new plot twist in her vast and ever-expanding lore – one that absolutely no one could have ever predicted. Just four months after marrying Lee Andrews, Price is pleading for help on social media amid fears he’s been kidnapped. No, we’re not joking. The question on everyone’s lips right now is “Where is Katie Price’s husband?”

Let’s start with where we know he’s not: the UK. The first hint that something was wrong came last week, when Andrews failed to make it to a Good Morning Britain appearance with Price. During the interview, she claimed that Andrews was stuck at the airport in Dubai, where he lives, clapping back at claims he’d been detained. But the story soon started to unravel and, only a few days later, Price took to YouTube to reveal that she hasn’t heard from her husband in days. Even worse, she fears he’s been kidnapped.

So yes, there’s a lot to unpack. Here’s a breakdown of the need-to-know details.

Who is Katie Price’s husband?

First and foremost, let’s cover the basics. Katie Price married Dubai-based businessman Lee Andrews in January, after a whirlwind romance that saw the couple meet, get engaged and then betrothed in just a matter of days. Andrews pulled out all the stops for the proposal, staging it at Dubai’s luxury Burj Al Arab hotel, with plenty of rose petals and a private hot tub. The wedding ceremony itself was completely private – and reportedly came as a shock to Price’s family and friends.

As for Price, she was quick to sing Andrews’ praises. “How I met Lee was esoteric; we connected [by] both checking each other’s socials and quickly realised, ‘Wow, this is for me.’ In the old-fashioned way, first by words, which captured us both,” she said. “That evolved deeper as we connected further within days, [getting] matching tattoos, and then both deciding to buy rings for the other. All this without even meeting, we let fate, but you could [say] destiny, decide. I’m just so happy with my person that is just as happy as I am. What we have, they haven’t even invented the words.”

Since then, the relationship has continued to raise eyebrows, from reports that Andrews reported to another influencer in exactly the same way a few months before meeting Price, to revelations that he’s lied about his background.

Maybelline’s First Peel-Off Lip Liner Is About to Break TikTok

0

This past February, I had the pleasure of taking a trip to Salt Lake City with Maybelline. And I know what you’re thinking: “BRAG!” But no, I can assure you that’s not what this is. It’s context for the seriously major news that the drugstore giant just announced the launch of its first peel-off lip liner stain—called the Super Stay Peel-Off Lip Liner ($13)—and I’m convinced it’s about to become TikTok’s next beauty obsession.

Why am I so confident? For one, I got to stress-test it on the slopes in full winter conditions: wind, cold and even a face-plant that had my ski instructor looking a little stressed. Yet through it all, my lip liner didn’t budge. If that’s not a testament to this formula’s staying power, I don’t know what is.

The other reason it’s bound to go viral: It’s available exclusively on TikTok Shop, so it’s destined to make its rounds on BeautyTok. The brand is clearly leaning into the video platform’s dominance in the beauty industry, and honestly, I get it. Few products are more satisfying to watch than a peel-off lip stain in action, as evidenced by its TikTok-viral predecessor, SACHEU Peel Off Lip Liner Stay-N ($14).

Here’s everything to know about Maybelline Super Stay Peel-Off Lip Liner if you’re thinking about trying it for yourself.

Maybelline Super Stay Peel-Off Lip Liner Fast Facts

  • The Super Stay Peel-Off Lip Liner comes in five shades that work across all skin tones.
  • You paint the liquid formula around the outer edge of your lips like a regular liner, let it dry for five minutes, then peel it off to reveal pigment that lasts up to 24 hours.
  • It’s available exclusively on TikTok Shop.

What I Love About Maybelline Super Stay Peel-Off Lip Liner

In the rare case you’re new to the lip liner peel-off stain trend, most formulas work similarly. For Maybelline’s new launch, you paint the liquid formula around the outer edge of your lips like a regular liner, let it dry for five minutes, then peel it off to reveal pigment that lasts up to 24 hours. If you’ve ever tried the brand’s SuperStay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick that debuted in 2017 but left a lasting impression on hearts like mine in the near-decade since, that should give you an idea of its serious staying power.

The Super Stay Peel-Off Lip Liner comes in five shades that work across all skin tones, and according to Maybelline, it won’t budge through pillows, showers, food or drinks. They’re not exaggerating. As someone who’s been using it regularly since my trip, I can attest that it stays put through just about anything: the slopes, pool days, a few glasses of sauvignon blanc and yes, even the heat sweats I ultimately get from that wine.

It’s also the easiest peel-off lip product I’ve tried (and I’m pretty convinced I’ve tested them all). With some formulas, the dried liner is hard to grab and pull off, but Maybelline’s had no learning curve, as evidenced by the less-than-flattering but very-real GIFs below.

Maybelline Super Stay Peel-Off Lip Liner: Pros and Cons

PROS

  • Very long-lasting and transfer-proof
  • Features a precision tip that makes it easier to create sharp lines
  • Peels off easily from lips
  • Available in five curated shades: brown, mauve, berry, pink and red

CONS

  • Requires a five minute wait time, which might be a hurdle for some if you’re in a rush
  • Only available on TikTok shop (at least for the time being)

Maybelline Super Stay Peel-Off Lip Liner: What’s Inside

The formula uses hydrating and moisturizing ingredients such as vitamin E, squalane, glycerin and hyaluronic acid to keep your lips comfortable, while polyvinyl alcohol creates the peel-off film (kind of like a temporary tattoo for your lips).

Is the Maybelline Super Stay Peel-Off Lip Liner Worth It?

The Maybelline Super Stay Peel-Off Lip Liner is, without a doubt, worth it if you’re interested in trying the lip liner stain trend for the first time or finding a drugstore alternative to another formula. The price is accessible and it works just as well, if not better, than competitor formulations.

Bella Hadid’s Dark Taupe Nails Are an Unexpected Spring Manicure Surprise—See the Photos

0

Do you remember when taupe nail polish became a thing? Because I sure do! It was the dawn of the 2010s—2008 to be exact—and OPI launched a little shade called You Don’t Know Jacques! Shortly after that, Chanel dropped Particulière, and my world was officially rocked. When I saw Bella Hadid’s latest mani, I instantly flashed back to that era of my life (and its accompanying nail trends), and decided that a taupe manicure is just the thing for spring.

Hadid, who is currently in the south of France for the Cannes Film Festival, attended a Chopard gala looking like a golden goddess in a glittering gown that matched her golden-blonde hair. Instead of matching her nails to her hair to her dress, however, she chose a dark taupe, almost espresso brown shade that added a cool, grounding element to the movie-star glamorous ensemble.

Getty Images

The model’s nails were a medium length and filed into a soft almond shape, painted with several coats of a color that is best described “brown… but not.” Instead of a warm chocolate, they’re on the cooler side with a hint of gray and a teeny, tiny drop of lavender. Where red would have been a little too on the nose and sheer, naked nails would have been the more obvious choice—given how popular they are on red carpets of late—this unique shade has a rebellious streak and feels like a nod to Hadid’s earth-angel, cowgirl vibe too.

Thankfully, both OPI and Chanel still sell their taupe shades, and a ton of other brands to doo. If you like Hadid’s color of choice, try China Glaze’s Nail Lacquer in Weathered Bark or Manucurist’s Green Nail Polish in Freckles, which they describe as a “woody brown.” What’s cooler than an earthy spring manicure in a sea of pastels?

How fragrance brands are reimagining the in-store experience in 2026

0

It’s essential to understand what drives consumers today. When they enter a store, they want to feel, see, touch, interact — to move from aspiration to tangible experience. When the experience surpasses expectations, it becomes truly memorable. From the earliest design stages, we identify the emotional triggers that can create that connection,” explains Rémi Le Druillenec.

The head of the Héroïne agency is committed to repositioning the in-store experience within the broader ecosystem of brand-consumer touchpoints — from campaigns and social media to websites and newsletters. In his approach to retail design, the human dimension remains central to every interaction. “Our audience is a community, not simply a customer base,” he explains.

Creating emotion

According to Rémi Le Druillenec, a successful retail experience is built on three pillars. The first is emotion: creating inspiring narratives that immerse visitors in the brand’s universe and DNA. The second is meaning: enabling customers to connect with the brand’s values and purpose. Finally, there is service — a highly personalized approach shaped by each visitor’s expectations, interests, and familiarity with the brand.

In addition to traditional transactional indicators, the agency relies on the R.O.X. (Return on Experience) methodology. “Beyond average basket size or conversion rate, we analyze attention and engagement indicators, such as time spent in-store, which directly reflects the quality of the experience. We also measure an experience’s ability to generate interactions around the brand, both on-site and after the visit. These signals reveal the creation of a lasting emotional connection with the community,” explains the director.

This human-centered vision is equally central to the philosophy of the Casanova agency. “It’s essential to place emotion back at the core of the experience, through journeys designed for total immersion, where storytelling and sensory dimensions merge seamlessly into a truly synesthetic experience. Beyond the physical space itself, every detail is conceived with the same level of care and precision,” emphasizes Laure Braive.

Image and business performance accelerator

For the past six years, the Héroïne agency has partnered with Amouage to design boutiques across the Middle East, the United States, Asia, and Europe. The challenge has been to balance the house’s forty-year heritage with a contemporary expression capable of resonating with an international clientele.

Each flagship opens a new chapter in the brand’s history, while remaining relevant to its local context,” explains Rémi Le Druillenec. In Shanghai, the The Wake boutique draws inspiration from the story of Sinbad, the sailor said to have departed from the port of Oman. Overhead, the ceiling is decorated with the hull of a traditional dhow, the emblematic sailing vessel of the Arab world. Another location pays tribute to the frankincense tree, while the Dubai boutique references the Jebel Akhdar mountains, where roses are cultivated. These spectacular architectural creations are conceived not only for those who visit them, but also for the broader communities drawn to discover them in turn.

A holistic ecosystem

The boutique becomes an invitation to discovery — not only olfactory, but also cultural and narrative. It reveals the full breadth of the brand’s universe: its craftsmanship, ingredients, perfumers, and sources of inspiration. The space evolves into a holistic ecosystem, where every element contributes to deepening the experience,” explains Laure Braive. “Boutiques are no longer purely transactional spaces; they have become places for connection and dialogue, hosting masterclasses, talks, and artistic encounters. What we are witnessing is a dynamic of renewal that extends far beyond simple product launches.

The Strategic Director of the Casanova agency sees this transformation reflected in the latest flagship stores opening across Paris.

For example, House Diptych has established itself as a true lifestyle destination, blending heritage, artistic collaborations, and curated talks. The Entropist embraces a hybrid concept somewhere between perfumery and art gallery. Raw material places the pedagogy of raw materials at the heart of the experience, while Fueguia 1833 immerses visitors in the inspirations and travels of its founder. At Essential Perfumesportraits of the perfumers and their personal narratives take center stage, whereas Spotturno cultivates a strong sense of coherence through color palettes, artisanal craftsmanship, noble materials, and a deep connection to heritage.

In a context of saturation and constant overstimulation, the boutique becomes a space to breathe — almost a form of olfactory escape. That is precisely what I experienced at The Perfume Orchestra: a true interlude, a suspended moment, both musical and olfactory. What genuinely moves or surprises us creates more than loyalty; it forges an emotional bond,” emphasizes Laure Braive.

According to Laure Braive, three major paradigms now shape the in-store experience. The first is the desire to slow down and reconnect — a response to the culture of immediacy through the rehabilitation of slowness, listening, and attentiveness. The second is hybridizationwith spaces increasingly evolving at the intersection of retail, culture, and hospitality, where events and encounters play a central role. Finally comes the era of the “relational artisan,” [1] in which the role of the sales advisor is undergoing a profound transformation: no longer merely a brand ambassador, but a facilitator of emotion — a more intuitive and embodied presence, capable of creating connections, interpreting desires, and transmitting knowledge, while restoring the art of conversation in place of scripted sales discourse.

Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum Review | Vitamin C Alternative for Hyperpigmentation & Glow

I often hear from readers who want brighter, more radiant skin but struggle with traditional Vitamin C formulas. If that sounds familiar, Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum is always one I recommend taking a look at.

This serum is formulated to target dark spots, uneven tone and dullness without the irritation that some Vitamin C serums can caused and so it’s an absolutely brilliant alternative, especially for anyone who finds classic Vitamin C formulas too strong, unstable or difficult to tolerate.

This is a product that I’ve had in my rotation for quite some time, and I love it for radiance, pigmentation and overall skin tone. Here’s what you need to know.

What is Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum?

Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum - Pipette
Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum – Pipette

The Caudalie Vinoperfect Serum is formulated to:

  • Visibly reduce the appearance of dark spots
  • Improve hyperpigmentation and uneven tone
  • Boost overall radiance and glow
  • Deliver a brighter, more even complexion over time
  • Often positioned as a Vitamin C alternative, with a gentler approach to brightening that suits a wider range of skin types.

Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum Key Ingredients

One of the standout ingredients is Caudalie’s patented Viniferinederived from vine sap, which is designed to help visibly target dark spots and uneven skin tone. It is said to be 62 times more effective than Vitamin C when it comes to brightening action.

The formula also contains olive-derived squalane which helps to moisturise and soothe the skin in a really lightweight texture.

How To Use Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum

Apply the serum to clean, dry skin after cleansing and before moisturiser. I like to use it in the morning on clean skin. It layers really well under other serums and moisturisers, and it you don’t like too many layers, I find it hydrating enough on its own under SPF for day time.

Because the formula is so lightweight and non-greasy, it layers really nicely under makeup.

My Review of Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum

I have had this serum in my rotation for quite some time and have used it lots over the years. It’s a great one to have in my stash if my skin is feeling sensitive, but I still want genuine brightening action.

Texture & Formula

Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum Texture
Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum Texture

One of the things I love most about this serum is the texture. It has a beautiful lightweight, milky consistency that feels instantly fresh and comforting on the skin. It sinks in effortlessly and layers beautifully with the rest of my skincare and makeup without ever feeling sticky, heavy or greasy.

The formula feels hydrating, soothing and calming straight away, and leaves the skin feeling soft and plumped with a really healthy-looking radiance.

Key Ingredients

One of the standout ingredients of Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum is Caudalie’s patented Viniferine, derived from vine sap, which is designed to help visibly target dark spots and uneven skin tone. The brand states that it is 62 times more effective than Vitamin C when it comes to brightening action, which is why this serum is so often talked about as a gentler Vitamin C alternative.

The formula also contains olive-derived squalane which helps to moisturise and soothe the skin while maintaining that beautifully lightweight, non-greasy finish.

How It Performs

What I really like about this serum is that the brightening effect feels gradual and skin health-focused rather than overly aggressive. Instead of giving that strong active feeling that some pigmentation treatments can have, this works in a much gentler way to leave skin looking fresher, clearer and more even over time.

With regular use, you will see much more radiance and evenness in your skin and a lovely healthy look to your complexion.

  • More radiant
  • More even in tone
  • Less dull and tired
  • Smooth and healthy-looking

It’s the kind of serum that makes your skin look quietly better overall rather than dramatically changing it overnight.

Who It’s Good For

I think this is especially good for anyone who wants to tackle

  • Dark spots
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Post-blemish marks
  • General dullness

You can work to tackle these issues with this serum without the need of using a stronger active that could potentially upset the skin barrier. It’s such a great option if you’ve struggled with traditional Vitamin C serums feeling too harsh, irritating or unstable on your skin.

My Final Thoughts

This is such an easy brightening serum to use because it combines radiance with comfort brilliantly. The lightweight texture, soothing feel and non-greasy finish make it a really effortless addition to a skincare routine, and that’s why it has become such a cult product.

If you’re looking for a brightening serum that helps improve pigmentation and boost glow without compromising skin comfort, this is definitely one to have on your radar.

FAQs About Caudalie Vinoperfect Serum

Is Caudalie Vinoperfect Good For Sensitive Skin?

I think one of the reasons this serum has become so popular is because it offers a much gentler approach to brightening. A lot of pigmentation-focused products can feel quite aggressive on the skin, especially if they rely heavily on stronger acids or potent Vitamin C formulas. This formula feels far more comfortable and balanced. It’s hydrating, soothing and easy to tolerate, which makes it a really good option if your skin is prone to sensitivity, dehydration or irritation.

Why Is Caudalie Vinoperfect Called a Vitamin C Alternative?

Caudalie Vinoperfect is often described as a Vitamin C alternative because it focuses on improving radiance, dark spots and uneven skin tone without relying on traditional Vitamin C as the hero ingredient. It uses Caudalie’s patented Viniferine, derived from vine sap, to help visibly brighten and refine the complexion over time.

Does Caudalie Vinoperfect Help With Dark Spots?

Yes, this is exactly what this serum is designed to target. While it’s not designed to be an aggressive treatment, it works consistently to help skin look brighter, clearer and more even over time. It works particularly well for on post-blemish marks and sun-related dark spots.

Is Caudalie Vinoperfect Better Than Vitamin C?

I don’t think it’s necessarily a case of one being “better” than the other. It really comes down to your skin type, concerns and what your skin tolerates best. Traditional Vitamin C serums can be excellent for boosting radiance and helping to improve pigmentation, and I still think they have a really important place in a skincare routine. What makes Caudalie Vinoperfect different is that it offers a gentler approach to brightening.

11 Best Japanese Skin-Care Products For Glowy, Healthy Skin

0

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Japanese skin care best known for?

Like Korean skin care, Japanese skin care focuses on hydration and maintaining bouncy, mochi-like skin with simple-yet-innovative products, according to Dr. Liu.

Double cleansing and serum-like sunscreens are also quintessential parts of Japanese skin care. Most of the top beauty best sellers in Japan fall into those categories with nourishing cleansing oils, decadent foam cleansers, and SPF with barely there finishes. Plus, many of these Japanese beauty products tend to be on the more affordable side as they can often be found in Japanese drugstores alongside incredible haircare products. (But that’s another story for another time.)

What are the most popular ingredients in Japanese skin-care products?

J-beauty products are less about aggressively trying to “fix” skin and more about supporting it over time—a philosophy that extends to the ingredients themselves. According to Dr. Turegano, Japanese skin care often blends traditional ingredients with modern innovation, prioritizing hydration, barrier support, and long-term skin health. Some of the standout ingredients and technologies include:

  • Fermentation technology: Especially galactomyces and Pitera-style ferments made famous by SK-II. “Fermented ingredients are rich in amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and postbiotic compounds that support hydration, improve skin texture and radiance, and strengthen the skin barrier,” says Dr. Turegano.
  • Rice-based ingredients: Rice bran, rice ferment, and rice water have “a long history in Japanese beauty rituals” and are often used to “soften, brighten, hydrate, and support overall skin luminosity,” says Dr. Turegano. Rice bran is also naturally rich in antioxidants and skin-supportive lipids.
  • Camellia oil (tsubaki oil): Traditionally used for both skin and hair, this antioxidant-rich oil is “rich in fatty acids,” helping nourish skin, reinforce the lipid barrier, and boost softness without feeling overly heavy.
  • Green tea: Dr. Turegano notes that green tea is “rich in polyphenols like EGCG, which have potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties,” meaning it can calm redness, reduce oxidative stress, support the skin barrier, and even regulate excess oil.
  • Seaweed and marine extracts: Common in Japanese formulations because they’re “rich in minerals, polysaccharides, amino acids, and humectant properties” that hydrate, soothe, and support the skin barrier, says Dr. Turegano.

You’ll also spot familiar skin-care staples like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and panthenol throughout Japanese skin care—proof that J-beauty happily blends time-honored ingredients with modern barrier-protecting favorites.

For our list of the best Japanese skin-care products, we considered each product’s performance across five primary categories: product ingredients and efficacy, packaging, fragrance, texture, and product wear. Every product was determined to have excelled in each category by our editorial team, which is composed of in-house writers and editors as well as contributors—along with special consideration from dermatologists.

Our favorite skin-care products come from all across the globe—let’s dive into them:
