The Clean Girl Natural Manicure Routine

Can you even believe we are seeing the day where the hottest manicure of 2026 is no manicure at all? That’s right bare, healthy, glossy, your-nails-but-better are finally in and as a clean beauty, we are loving it! When the typically toxic and unattainable beauty standards declare that natural is the goal, that’s a trend worth noting and the pros agree. Nail artist Helen Marlen told Forbes that bare, naked-looking manicures are “a quiet luxury, Princess Diana type of style.” Even a Sally Beauty ambassador with 500+ polishes admitted bare nails are one of summer’s hottest looks. The shift is the point: the trend isn’t a color, it’s the health of the nail itself which we are absolutely in support of and think everything should be this way! Healthy hair, skin and nails is always elite so, lets go over how we keep our hands and nails as healthy as can be using only non-toxic products as usual.

The downside of this “trend” is that bare nails expose everything: ridges, dryness, torn cuticles… So the move isn’t “do nothing,” it’s “do the care, skip the cover-up.” Considering I recently dried my nails out using press on glue, here’s how I am bringing my nails back to their healthiest state, start to finish. To view all of these items, head here.

The Routine

1. Soak. Whenever you are doing an at-home mani, always soak your cuticles first to soften things up and nourish. We love the Bathorium Crush Soak in Hinoki Magnesium for a grounding, soothing magnesium soak, or Bathorium Bath Soak in Milk Coconut Vanilla Mineral (no essential oils) for sensitive skin. Soak 10 to 20 minutes, pat dry.

2. Prep with the right tools. Shape with The Eco Nail File (file one direction, short almond or soft square). Reveal the nail bed with The Push Back Cuticle Tool. Tidy hangnails only with The Nip Cuticle Trimmers. Smooth the surface with The Buff Plus Nail Bufferbut don’t over-buff. View all of our fave nail tools here.

3. Exfoliate hands. The Rewind Hand Exfoliator uses lactic acid plus biodegradable beads to buff away dead skin so everything after actually sinks in. You will wake up to baby soft hands and skin.

4. Mask overnight. After you have exfoliated, I love to apply The Sleep Mask at night as squalane increases cell turnover by 34% and reduces wrinkles by 51%. Mushroom gel also outperforms hyaluronic acid on hydration by 40% which means max hydration while you sleep!

5. Treat, then seal (daily). Two products, two jobs. Use the lighter Age-Defying Hand Treatment first, a concentrated serum that firms and smooths fine lines. Then layer the richer Heroine Hand Lotion on top to lock it in with hyaluronic acid, Kakadu plum, and 24-hour, never-greasy hydration. Treatment treats, lotion seals.

6. Oil the nails. The Celery Oil is a roll-on with celery seed, chia, and zinc to grow harder, stronger nails.

7. Oil the cuticles. The Rose Cuticle Oil softens cracked cuticles with jojoba, argan, and rose, never greasy.

8. Wash before color. If you’re polishing, wash with the gentle, prebiotic Aleavia Microbiome-Friendly Hand Wash in Citrus & Sea Kelp. It cleans without stripping, and it gets the oils off the nail plate so polish actually grips. If you want to add a natural polish over your nail, we will link our faves below!

Hand Creams We Love

For everyday use, we loveee the Carter + Jane Body Butters for deep, whipped moisture; Koala Eco Hand & Body Lotion in Rosalina & Peppermint for hyaluronic acid and real essential-oil scent; the Paume Mini Hand Care Duo for a travel balm-plus-mask set; and Scentual Aroma Restore Hand & Body Cream in Jasmine for clean, luxurious jasmine alongside max moisture.

Best Nail Supplements

Strong nails are built from the inside. To ensure you are nourishing your nails from the inside out, you will some some quality supplements. Our top pick is the Agent Natateur Holi (Mane)a marine collagen and pearl powder with 30+ trace minerals for stronger, faster-growing nails all tested for heavy metals. This stuff is pricey but… it WORKS. It’s even Kylie Jenner’s top collagen pick. Pair it with the Agent Nateur Holi (Radiance) for max results. OptiMSM and ceramides clinically shown to strengthen nails in as little as two weeks. They’re formulated to work synergistically, so take a scoop of each daily. If you can only budget one, the Holi Radiance is actually our top pick. Warning, it’s gross lol. It’s very bitter so add it to some orange juice for easy swallowing.

Cleaner Polish

Polish can’t be truly clean, it’s paint but Huella is one of the cleanest I have found that actually performs great! Many people say it performs similar to CHANEL and I agree! Truly 10-free, vegan, made in the USA, and free of benzophenone-1 (which most “cleaner” polishes still hide), if you want a splash of color or shine, this is where we’d start. For any color, always start with the Undercover Base Coat (it protects the nail and makes color last weeks) and finish with the Cover Up Quick Dry Top Coat for shine and chip resistance. Here are our top 5 fave nudes!

  • Sheer nude, our top pick: I Do Take Youthe barely-there nude that goes with everything.
  • Sheer baby pink: Princess and the Peonya soft lit-from-within blush flush.
  • Milky sheer nude: Ballet Blancthe ballet-slipper milky-mani shade. A bit more milky than I Do Take You.
  • A bit more pigment: Blush With Emotionnude blush pink with real payoff for those who want a bit more pigment.
  • Just want glossy? Cover Up Quick Dry Top Coat over bare nails gives that glass-like finish.

Cleaner Polish Remover

Standard acetone strips polish and moisture both. Always go gentle and acetone-free. At home, I always reach for the Tenoverten Rose Soak, infused with rosehip, aloe, and vitamin E to condition while it removes. For on the go, the Tenoverten Rose Wipes are the same gentle formula in six biodegradable cloths, no fumes, no drying out.

And there you have it! Natural, healthy, clean, stunning nails or at least the exact steps on how to create them! To view all of these items, head here.
