Healthy hair doesn’t just happen by chance. Each OLAPLEX product is powered by bond-building technology to repair damage, strengthen bonds, and protect hair from future stress. So, as you’re setting intentions for the new year, make a commitment to keep your healthiest hair ever. Explore popular hair goals and see how OLAPLEX can help you reach them in the new year.

For Softer and More Moisturized Hair This New Year

Getting winter hair back to its soft, moisturized state might seem like a difficult feat. The cold weather strips your hair of moisture which should be replenished at the base level through a full hair routine that leaves your hair feeling strong.

It’s important to keep your hair type in mind when choosing which products are best suited for your routine. If you have fine hair, start by cleansing with N°.4 Fine Bond Maintenance® Shampoo, an ultra-light volumizing shampoo designed for fine hair which is clinically proven to strengthen, repair, and prevent future hair damage. This pairs perfectly with N°.5 Fine Bond Maintenance® Conditioner, which leaves the hair smooth without weighing it down. For thicker or textured hair where additional hydration is needed, the Nº.4 Bond Maintenance® Shampoo and Nº.5 Bond Maintenance® Conditioner are best suited. If your hair needs a little extra hydration after the shower, you may also want to check out the Nº.5 Leave-In Moisturize & Mend Leave-In Conditioner, which instantly hydrates and seals split ends.

For added moisturization consider adding a hair mask to your routine. The Rich Hydration Mask works best on thick or textured hair, using Biometric Cuticle Technology to lock in intense hydration and strength to seal hair cuticles from the inside. For more fine hair, try the Weightless Nourishing Mask, which provides hydration at the cuticle level without weighing down the hair. Style with the Nº.6 Bond Smoother® to create smoother, softer blow-dries and more defined air-dried styles, and the famous OLAPLEX Nº.7 Bonding Oil™ to smooth flyaways.

If Your New Year’s Resolution Is a Healthier Scalp

Healthy hair starts at the scalp. If your resolution is to set the stage for a healthy scalp, start by cleansing with either number N°.4 Fine Bond Maintenance® Shampoo, or Nº.4 Bond Maintenance® Shampoo, depending on your hair type. The richly lathering formula gently yet thoroughly cleanses every hair type without stripping or drying to maintain a hydrated scalp and hair. Finish with the N°.5 Fine Bond Maintenance® Conditioner or Nº.5 Bond Maintenance® Conditioner to hydrate from root to tip.

Give your hair extra support with the Weightless Nourishing Mask for fine hair, or the Rich Hydration Mask for thicker or more textured hair. And to ensure your hair stays hydrated long after your shower, the Nº.5 Leave-In Moisturize & Mend Leave-In Conditioner is a good option, sealing cuticles and softening the hair instantly.

Sometimes when caring for the skin less is more, you don’t want to overwhelm your scalp with products, so styling should be kept simple and hydrating. Stay away from intense heat and products with a lot of chemicals, and be sure to finish with OLAPLEX Nº.7 Bonding Oil™ for added hydration and smoothness.

New Year, More Voluminous Hair

If your goal for the new year is to get more voluminous hair, start your routine similarly to the others, with a cleanse of N°.4 Fine Bond Maintenance® Shampoo and N°.5 Fine Bond Maintenance® Conditioner for thin or fine hair, or Nº.4 Bond Maintenance® Shampoo and Nº.5 Bond Maintenance® Conditioner for thicker or more textured hair. This ensures that the hair is hydrated and cleansed without being weighed down by its natural movement. For the ultimate hydration, treat with the Weightless Nourishing Mask for fine hair, or the Rich Hydration Mask for thicker or more textured hair.

Now that the hair has been set up for success, it’s time to style, and that’s where the real volume comes in. Blow dry with the Volumizing Blow Dry Mist to create soft, voluminous, visibly healthy blowouts with lasting body and bounce. The weightless formula protects hair from styling damage and heat up to 450ºF/232ºC, leaving blow-dried styles feeling smooth and hair feeling strong. For an extra touch of shine, finish off with the OLAPLEX Nº.7 Bonding Oil™.

Ring in the New Year with Shinier Hair

To achieve the goal of shinier hair this New Year, cleanse the hair with N°.4 Fine Bond Maintenance® Shampoo and N°.5 Fine Bond Maintenance® Conditioner for thin or fine hair, or Nº.4 Bond Maintenance® Shampoo and Nº.5 Bond Maintenance® Conditioner for thicker or more textured hair, and treat with either the Weightless Nourishing Mask for fine hair, or the Rich Hydration Mask for thicker or more textured hair to give the hair a smooth texture and radiant look.

Style with Nº.9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum, which is an ultra-lightweight, heat-protective hair styling serum that creates a satin shine and lasting style retention while reducing tangles and static. Finish with OLAPLEX Nº.7 Bonding Oil™ to boost shine and softness, while also reducing breakage.

Your Best Hair Begins with Confidence

Great hair starts with healthy habits and self-belief. With consistent use of OLAPLEX’s bond-building system, you’re not only strengthening your hair, you’re also building confidence from the inside out.

Every act of care contributes to something greater. Incorporating OLAPLEX into your daily routine builds a mindset rooted in foundational hair health, and a commitment to defying damage before it starts, which is key to ensure healthy-looking or healthy-feeling hair.

This Works Own Time Perfume Review: My First Impressions on Relaxation & Sleep

This Works Own Time Perfume immediately caught my attention because it sits at the intersection of fragrance, wellbeing and sleep, an area I’m increasingly interested in. I also trust the This Works brand when it comes to sleep, having used their Deep Sleep Pillow Spray on and off for years.

This is a first impressions review, but after using Own Time a few times, I wanted to share my early thoughts for anyone looking for an honest review of this interesting new launch.

This Works Own Time Perfume is a calming, functional fragrance designed to support relaxation rather than force sleep. From my first impressions, it works best as part of an intentional evening wind-down ritual, helping the nervous system settle and encouraging better habits around switching off.

What Is This Works Own Time Perfume?

What is This Works Own Time Perfume?
What is This Works Own Time Perfume?

Own Time isn’t marketed as a traditional perfume. According to This Works, it’s crafted with specific aromatic molecules inspired by neuroscience that may help signal to the brain that it’s time to shift into rest mode.

Where many scent products for evening use come as pillow sprays or pure aromatherapy, This Works Own Time Perfume is an eau de parfum you wear on your skin and it’s meant to be part of a wind-down ritual, not a one-off sleep trick.

I was drawn to it because I’m curious about products that go beyond surface beauty and actually support wellbeing, especially sleep. After trying it post-workout, during evening TV sessions and noticing how it felt during night waking, I thought it was worth writing about early.

Fragrance Notes & How They Work

This Works Own Time Perfume isn’t built around scent alone. It’s designed with an understanding of how certain aromatic compounds can interact with the nervous system. In particular, the fragrance includes notes that are naturally rich in terpenes and sesquiterpenes, which are aromatic molecules commonly found in plants, resins and essential oils.

These compounds are often discussed in the context of aromatherapy because of their potential to influence mood, stress response and relaxation via the olfactory system, which has a direct pathway to areas of the brain involved in emotion and memory.

Top Notes

  • Pink Peppercorn
  • Rose
  • Lemon Myrtle

Lemon myrtle is naturally high in terpenes such as citral, which are associated with a fresh, uplifting aroma that can help counter feelings of mental fatigue without being stimulating. Pink pepper adds warmth and softness, helping the opening feel gently engaging rather than sharp or energising.

The effect is a top note that feels clarifying but calm, awake, but not wired.

Heart Notes

  • Cardamom
  • Frankincense
  • Cyclamen

This is where sesquiterpenes start to play a more noticeable role. Frankincense, in particular, contains sesquiterpenes that are often associated with grounding and calming effects. These heavier aromatic molecules are thought to interact more slowly with the nervous system, which may help support a feeling of emotional steadiness.

Cardamom adds aromatic warmth without sweetness, contributing to a sense of comfort rather than stimulation.

Base Notes

The base notes are where the fragrance really settles, and they’re also where sesquiterpenes are most prominent. Sandalwood and incense are traditionally associated with relaxation and meditation, partly because their aromatic compounds are believed to encourage slower, deeper breathing and a more settled nervous system response.

This may help explain why the scent feels reassuring rather than attention-grabbing, and why it lingers quietly on the skin without feeling intrusive, especially noticeable during the night.

How This Translates in Real Life

Rather than acting like a sedative, fragrances rich in terpenes and sesquiterpenes are often described as supportive, helping the body feel safe enough to relax. In the case of This Works Own Time Perfume, this seems to show up as a subtle cue to slow down, making it particularly well suited to evening use or moments when the nervous system feels overstimulated.

How I’ve Been Using This Works Own Time Perfume

Rather than keeping Own Time in the bedroom, I’ve actually placed the bottle in my living room, the space where we usually sit and watch TV after dinner. I like using it as a clear signal that the day is winding down.

In the evening, I’ve been spritzing it on my wrists and in a halo over my head and shoulders, then I’ve been making a conscious effort to stay off my phone a little more. This is something I usually try to do and often fail at, but I’ve found that the active step of using the fragrance seems to help. It feels like a small but intentional pause, a moment that encourages me to be more present and a bit less reactive.

I’m not suddenly phone-free (far from it), but I do think the scent helps me disconnect more easily in the evenings. There’s something about the ritual of applying it, combined with the calming nature of the fragrance itself, that makes it easier to put the phone down for longer stretches. It feels like the kind of habit that could become more effective over time, rather than something that needs to work perfectly straight away.

For me, this has become just as much about creating space to unwind as it is about the fragrance itself.

My Review of This Works Own Time Perfume

My Review of This Works Own Time Perfume?
My Review of This Works Own Time Perfume?

The first time I used This Works Own Time Perfume was after a late gym session. My body was physically tired but my nervous system was still buzzing. Spraying the fragrance felt like setting a new tone, as if it helped me mentally mark the shift from activity to rest. It didn’t suddenly make me sleepy, but it did help me feel more settled.

During Night Waking

Even when I wake in the middle of the night (which I usually do, even on good nights), the scent was comforting rather than distracting. I could still softly smell it on my wrist, and it felt familiar, almost reassuring, rather than pulling me into thoughts or alertness.

Does It Actually Help With Sleep?

This is obviously the big question.

This Works Own Time Perfume isn’t a supplement or a sleep aid in the traditional sense, and I wouldn’t describe it as something that puts you to sleep. What it seems to do, at least for me, is support relaxation and help my nervous system feel more settled in the evening.

One thing I did find particularly interesting was what happened on the third night I used it. According to my Oura Ring, I achieved 1 hour and 42 minutes of deep sleep, which is significantly higher than my usual 14-day average of 58 minutes. I’m very conscious that sleep is influenced by lots of factors, and I wouldn’t attribute that result solely to a fragrance, but it was notable enough to mention.

For me, Own Time works best as part of an evening wind-down routine, rather than as a standalone solution. It feels like a gentle signal to slow down, something that pairs well with other calming habits and, if you use them, sleep-support supplements. I’ve linked a couple of those below for context.

Related Sleep Support I’ve Tried

If you’re interested in gentle, non-medicated support for sleep and relaxation, beyond fragrance, here are two products I’ve reviewed that many readers find helpful as part of an evening wind-down routine:

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Encourages deeper relaxation, which for me coincided with significantly more deep sleep (1h 42m on Oura vs usual 58m)
  • A nuanced, layered fragrance – more than a standard herbal sleep spray
  • Works as both a fragrance and a mindful wind-down cue
  • Subtle but reassuring presence during night waking

Cons

  • Premium price point
  • Won’t replace clinical sleep solutions for those with major sleep disorders
  • Might feel too complex if you prefer ultra-simple calming scents

Who This Is Best For

This Works Own Time Perfume is a great fit if you:

  • Want a beauty product that supports wellbeing and evening calm
  • Like ritual and intention in your evening routine
  • Are curious about nervous system-focused fragrances
  • Prefer a subtle, grounded scent over strong herbal sleep sprays

Final Thoughts

From these first impressions, This Works Own Time Perfume feels less like a fragrance you wear for effect and more like one you use with intention. What’s stood out to me most isn’t just how it smells, but how it’s encouraged me to slow down in the evenings, putting my phone down a little more, being more present, and creating clearer boundaries between day and night. I’m still picking up my phone more than I’d like, but the ritual of applying the scent feels like a helpful nudge in the right direction, and I can see that becoming more effective over time.

I also can’t ignore the sleep data. On the third night I used Own Time, my Oura Ring recorded 1 hour and 42 minutes of deep sleep, compared to my usual 14-day average of 58 minutes. I’m very aware that sleep is influenced by many variables, and I wouldn’t attribute that result to one product alone, but it felt significant enough to mention, especially in the context of feeling calmer and more settled in the evening.

This Works Own Time Perfume doesn’t promise instant sleep, and it doesn’t feel gimmicky. Instead, it offers something quieter: a way to support relaxation, encourage better habits, and signal to your nervous system that it’s safe to unwind. For me, it works best when it becomes part of a broader wind-down routine, one that prioritises calm, presence, and rest.

Overall, it feels elegant, subtle, and genuinely reassuring, especially during the quiet hours of the night.

I’ll continue using it and update my thoughts over time, but so far it feels like a lovely ritual fragrance with real potential for supporting calm and rest.

Where to buy it

This Works Own Time Perfume is £80 for 50ml, or £25 for 10ml, and it is available now via the links below:

16 Best Japanese Skincare Products, Tried & Tested

0

What I really love is how versatile it is. Some days I use it as a simple toner, other days I’ll layer it like a mini hydration treatment, and I’ve even poured it into a spray bottle to mist over my face during the day. It also makes the rest of my routine work better — my serums always sink in so much nicer afterwards. And the bottle is huge, which wasn’t the best for packing in my case, but I’m so grateful it fit!

Best Rice Mask: Keana Nadeshiko Pore Care Rice Face Pack

Keana Nadeshiko Pore Care Rice Face Pack

Fast facts: Rinse-off rice mask; deeply hydrating and plumping; smooths rough texture; great for dry, dull winter skin.

Keana Nadeshiko is one of the most recognisable skincare brands in Japan, and I saw this mask everywhere, especially in pharmacies, which often sell skincare for way cheaper than the big department stores (Japan tip there for you). During my J-beauty deep dive, rice skincare kept popping up, but I’d never actually tried it before. I won’t lie, the texture of this mask really threw me at first. It genuinely feels a bit like porridge going on, but once it’s on, it’s surprisingly soothing. I use it two to three times a week when my skin feels dry or rough, and every time I rinse it off, my skin looks brighter, smoother, and so glowy, with way less texture.

Rice is such a hero ingredient in Japanese skincare because it’s known for hydrating, softening and boosting radiance, and this rinse-off mask is packed with 100% Japanese rice-derived serum to plump and smooth the skin. It’s especially good for dehydration and dullness. My makeup always sits better the day after I use it, and I love keeping it in the fridge so it’s extra cooling. If your skin feels dry, textured or just a bit meh, this is a really good one to have on hand, especially in winter.

Best Vitamin C: Melano CC Age Spot Beauty Essence

Melano CC Age Spot Beauty Essence

Fast facts: Thick hand cream; lasting moisture; instantly softens and smooths dry hands; herbal smell may be too strong for some.

A skincare product that really doesn’t get enough hype? Vitamin C. It’s one of my favourite ingredients for brightening, and after asking multiple shop assistants in Japan for the best Vitamin C serum, every single one pointed me towards this very NGL boring-looking Melano C Essence. It doesn’t give much from the outside, but the formula is where it really shines. After using it for around four months, I totally get why it’s a cult favourite.

It’s packed with Vitamin C and E to help fade dark spots and old acne marks, while keeping redness and breakouts in check. It sinks into my skin so nicely with zero stickiness, gives me the best glow and has genuinely helped fade post-spot marks. You don’t need much either, as it spreads easily, so even though the tube is small, it actually lasts really well.

Best Cleanser: Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Face Foam Rohto Mentholatum

Hada Labo Gokujyun Rohto Mentholatum Super Hyaluronic Foaming Wash

Original video from Sarah Y. Wu testing Hada Labo Gokujyun Super Hyaluronic Foaming Wash Rohto Mentholatum

Fast facts: Gentle foam cleanser; recommended for sensitive skin; leaves skin feeling soft and hydrated.

Double-cleansing (using an oil-based cleanser followed by a water-based cleanser to thoroughly remove makeup and impurities) is the foundation of Japanese skin care. This best-selling drugstore gem is my top pick for your water-based cleansing step, and it’s been living in my shower all month. It’s formulated with hyaluronic acid, a popular ingredient for hydrating, and feels gentle even on my sensitive skin.

“I love the pump-style cleanser that conveniently produces a rich, creamy lather,” says Miki Ishida, a hair and makeup artist based in Tokyo. Getz is also a fan. “This velvety foam is fragrance-free, alcohol-free, colourant-free, and oil-free,” she says. “It’s a great cleanser for sensitive or reactive skin, it’s very gentle, and it doesn’t give me that dry and tight feeling after washing my face.”

Best Essence: SK-II Facial Treatment Essence

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence

Original video of Alanna Martine Kilkeary testing the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence

Fast facts: Lightweight hydrating essence; preps skin before serum and moisturiser; subtle plumping and brightening effect; dewy finish.

Even if you’re new to J-beauty, you probably recognise this iconic glass bottle at first glance. The brand’s popular hydrating essence (sometimes also referred to as a lotion toner in Japan) is famous for its key ingredient, Pitera. Also known as galactomyces ferment filtrate, it’s a yeast-derived ingredient that has barrier-supporting, hydrating, and antioxidant benefits. It’s also known to help brighten and smooth, ideal for targeting dark spots, fine lines, and overall skin tone. The texture is fast-absorbing and lightweight, leaving your face dewy and prepped for makeup. I usually like to splash a few drops all over my face for an instant refresh. Or, for gentle exfoliation, I’ll wet a cotton pad to sweep away dead skin cells.

Best Lip Balm: Canmake Mellow Dew Lip Mask

Canmake Mellow Dew Lip Mask

Fast facts: Treatment for dry lips; thick texture that melts on contact; easy-to-use applicator; helps lips look instantly smoother and softer; lasting moisture.

What’s So Special About Cajeput?

0

Ingredient

Cajeput Essential Oil

Fancy Latin Name

Melaleuca leucadendraor Melaleuca cajuputi

About The Plant

Cajeput trees grow natively in Australia and New Zealand, and also grows in parts of Indonesia, Papua New Guinea,  Vietnam, and Thailand. They can grow up to 70-100 feet tall, and are known as weeping paperbarks, with thick, white, papery bark and weeping branches. Their happy place is in monsoon  or coastal forests. It is believed that the word “cajeput” is derived from the Indonesian name for the tree, “kayu putih,” meaning white wood. In the UK, the spelling is cajuput.

Cajeput essential oil is steam-distilled from the twigs and some leaves of the tree, and smells camphorous, but much less medicinal than its close cousin, tea tree oil. Cajeput has more fruity and spicy notes, making it a lovely aromatic addition to aromatherapy blends, and a more pleasant choice for many people in skincare formulations than the more pungent tea tree oil.

Aromatherapy Benefits of Cajeput

Cajeput is helpful during cold and flu season, as it is high in the monoterpene 1,8-cineole; this compound is also known as eucalyptol, and is found in many essential oils, such as eucalyptus, rosemary, laurel, tea tree, sage, and niaouli. Animal studies suggest that 1,8 cineole acts as a bronchodilator, relaxing the smooth muscles of the airways and as a mucolytic, helping to break up and clear mucus from the airways more easily. If you want to try using cajeput next time you have a cold, an easy method is to place a drop or two on the floor or wall of your shower, away from the flow of water, and breathe it in during a steamy shower.

Skincare Benefits of Cajeput

Cajeput essential oil is effective against many gram positive and gram negative bacteria, as well as yeast, mold, and demodex mites, making it an excellent choice for acne-prone or dermatitis-prone skin (in the correct concentration and formulation, not used directly on the skin).

We use cajeput in our Spotless Blemish Oil for its antibacterial properties, given the role that bacteria can play in acne. In this formula, in combination with other antibacterial and anti-inflammatory essential oils, cajeput can help reduce the size and appearance of a blemish, even before it comes fully to the surface of the skin.

Safety Information

Cajeput essential oil is high in 1,8-cineole and should not be used on or around infants or young children as it can cause respiratory and/or CNS problems. Cajeput should not be taken internally without direct supervision by a medical professional.

Close up shot of narrow green leaves on the Melaleuca tree

Fun Facts about Cajeput

  • Aboriginal people have long used the leaves of Melaleuca trees to cook food, and the bark to make shelters and canoes, and to wrap deceased loved ones before burial.
  • Many different essential oils can be made from species in the Melaleuca genus, but the two most widely produced and used are Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) and Melaleuca leucadendra and/or cajuputi (cajeput).
  • 1,8-cineole, one of the main constituents in cajeput essential oil, is sold in capsule form in Germany in a product called Soledum to treat acute respiratory infections like colds, flu, bronchitis, and sinusitis.
  • Cajeput is one of the active ingredients in a well-know balm for aching muscles called Tiger Balm, along with camphor, menthol, and clove.
  • Cajeput is used in treating bacterial and fungal infections in fish; Melafix and Bettafix are examples of products sold for this purpose.

Hope you learned some new things! Give cajeput a try if you’re not a huge fan of tea tree oil—it would also be a great addition to a home essential oils set, especially useful in DIY cleaning products!

Celebrity Protein Brands Are the New Celebrity Beauty Line

0

Earlier this week, I opened a Slack notification to see that another big celebrity name was launching a protein brand. On January 5, Mel Robbins, a lawyer who turned a viral 2011 TedX talk into a lucrative second career as a self-help guru, introduced PureGenius Protein, a line of pocket-sized “protein shots” packing 23 grams per three-ounce bottle. “It is unlike any other protein you’ve ever had,” Robbins wrote in the caption of a Facebook post breaking the news. (She has around 90 million followers across platforms.)

This kind of bulletin has become increasingly common among actors, influencers, and athletes. Khloe Kardashian has Khloud Protein Popcorn. Venus Williams has Happy Viking, a plant-based protein powder company. In 2021, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son, actor Patrick Schwarzenegger (a.k.a. the fuckboy character on the most recent season of The White Lotus), embarked on a much more G-rated family affair: partnering with his mother, former first lady of California Maria Shriver, to develop MOSH Protein Bars. Other celebrity businesses have hopped on the bandwagon too: Tom Brady’s TB12, Kate Hudson’s InBloom, Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop, Mark Wahlberg’s Performance Inspired, Jennifer Lopez’s BodyLab, and Arnold Schwarzenegger and LeBron James’s Ladder Sport currently offer or recently offered an extensive array of protein products.

Meanwhile, other celebrities have adopted a different approach to pushing protein: taking roles at existing brands rather than starting their own or partnering with brands to advertise specific products. As recently as this fall, Jennifer Aniston was listed as a chief creative officer for Vital Proteins. Zac Efron serves as chief brand officer for Kodiak Cakes, which is known for its high-protein oatmeal and pancake and waffle mixes. And as we were wrapping up this piece, Dunkin’ released an ad starring Megan Thee Stallion to promote its new Dunkin’ Protein Refreshers drinks, and influencer Peter Attia’s David Protein (yep, yet another celebrity protein brand) centered Julia Fox in a provocative campaign for its new Bronze Bars. “These are actually so good. And I swear I’m not just saying that because you guys paid me a lot of money,” Fox says in a video ad mid-makeup touchup, the bar wrapper audibly crinkling.

If you felt a flash of déjà vu reading the Mel Robbins announcement, I wouldn’t blame you. Whether you’re aware of it or not, you’ve seen this movie before—around 10 years ago, when another type of business venture took hold of Hollywood: the celebrity beauty line. From 2015 to 2022, we were inundated with new options: Kylie Jenner’s Kylie Cosmetics, Jessica Alba’s Honest Beauty, Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty (and, later, Fenty Skin), Kim Kardashian’s KKW Beauty, Lady Gaga’s Haus Labs, Tracee Ellis Ross’s Pattern Beauty, Millie Bobby Brown’s Florence by Mills, Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty, Victoria Beckham’s Victoria Beckham Beauty, Alica Keys’s Keys Soulcare, Ariana Grande’s R.E.M. Beauty, Jennifer Aniston’s LolaVie, and Hailey Bieber’s Rhode, among (many, many) others.

Perfumes: Mane increases its production capacities in Pinghu, China

0

Mane China announced the official start, on October 31, 2025, of the construction of phase II of its Pinghu factory. This project represents a total investment of 70 million US dollars (around 81 million euros). Covering an area of 14,000 square meters, the expansion project aims to strengthen Mane’s production capacities in China, particularly in the field of perfumes.

« This project demonstrates Mane’s continued commitment to long-term investments in China and the Asia-Pacific region. “, explain Denis Raffaud, Managing Director for Greater China.

Growing demand for perfumes

Faced with sustained growth and the evolving needs of its customers in China, Mane is constantly strengthening its local industrial infrastructures. Phase I of the Pinghu site, inaugurated in June 2023, had already allowed the company to establish its flavor production base in the country.

According to Mane, the growing demand for perfumes makes Phase II a logical continuation of its expansion strategy. This phase will focus on a wide range of perfumery formats and technologies, including liquids, adsorption, spray drying, microencapsulation and macroencapsulation. “ Encapsulation technology, in particular, will be a key element of this new phase, enabling stable and long-lasting fragrance diffusion for various applications ».

Increased production capacity

Completion of Pinghu Phase II is scheduled for third quarter 2027. Mane then plans an increase of 17,000 tonnes in its annual production capacity, which will considerably strengthen the resources available to the group to serve its customers in the Asia-Pacific region.

These new capacities will be added to the creation center for fine fragrance, opened by Mane in China in 2024. They are planned to meet the group’s growth forecasts for the coming decade.

If there’s one oil that does it all and is useful for every skin type, you can’t go past Jojoba Oil. This lightweight, non-comedogenic oil mimics the skin’s natural sebum and has many proven benefits on the skin. From balancing oily skin to taming frizzy hair, this multi-tasking oil has become a go-to ingredient in many skincare products.

Whether you’re struggling with dryness, acne, sensitivity, or simply looking to boost your skin health, jojoba oil has something to offer your complexion. Let’s explor the many benefits of jojoba oil in skincare and why it deserves a permanent place in your skincare rituals.

What is Jojoba Oil?

Sourced from the seeds of the Simmondsia chinensis plant, which grows in the arid regions of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico, jojoba oil isn’t technically an oil. It is a liquid wax ester, which closely resembles the natural sebum produced by human skin. This unique composition is what makes jojoba oil so loved by all skin types.

Jojoba oil is made by harvesting the ripe seeds from the jojoba plant and then extracting the liquid wax via cold pressing. The seeds are then cleaned, crushed, and processed to separate the liquid wax from the solid plant material. The extracted liquid is then filtered and clarified to remove impurities, resulting in the finished jojoba oil.

How Jojoba Oil Works on the Skin

Jojoba oil penetrates easily and is a natural humectant, helping to hydrate the skin and lock in moisture. Containing antioxidant rich vitamin E, jojoba seed oil also fights oxidative stress—helping to maintain firm skin and prevent premature ageing.

For oily skin types, jojoba oil can help regulate sebum production. When the skin senses it has adequate moisture or oil levels, it reduces the overproduction of oil, helping to balance your complexion.

For dry skin types, jojoba oil replenishes moisture levels and protects the integrity of your skin’s barrier. This prevents dry skin and minimises risk of skin flare ups for anyone with skin sensitivities.

Scientifically Backed Benefits of Jojoba Oil in Skincare

Deep Hydration & Moisture Retention

Jojoba oil works by forming a protective barrier that locks in moisture while still allowing the skin to breathe. This makes it an ideal natural moisturiser for the face and body either as a stand alone product or within a formulation.

Balances Oily Skin & Regulates Sebum

Unlike heavier oils that can leave a greasy residue and block pores, jojoba oil is considered non-comedogenic. Its lightweight texture penetrates the skin’s surface to deliver long-lasting hydration that promotes balanced skin without the excess oil.

Anti-Inflammatory & Soothing Effects

For people struggling with conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, jojoba oil’s hydrating benefits can also help soothe dry and irritated skin. Jojoba oil also contains fatty acids, known for their repairing and anti-inflammatory effects on the skin. These benefits combined make it an ideal skin treatment for inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema, sunburn and soothing skin relief post skin procedures such as skin needling and face peels.

Supports Wound Healing & Skin Repair

Jojoba oil contains essential vitamins such as vitamin e, vitamin B, copper and zinc which all assist to support wound healing and generally strengthen the skin’s structure. As a result, it has shown to help minimise the appearance of scarring, making it an ideal body oil to minimise stretch marks and treat acne scarring without the risk of causing further congestion to the skin.

Antioxidant Protection

Jojoba oil is loaded with antioxidants that provide both immediate protection and long-term skin health benefits.

  • Vitamin E: Protects against free radicals that cause premature aging.

  • Vitamin B-complex: Helps skin repair.

  • Zinc and copper: Support collagen production and wound healing.

  • Iodine: Offers natural antibacterial benefits.

These nutrients not only support skin health, but also defend against environmental stress that leads to premature ageing.

Antimicrobial & Antifungal Properties

Jojoba oil contains compounds such as iodine that contribute to its antibacterial properties and ability to fight skin infections and breakouts. Its antimicrobial and antifungal properties may also help with skin and scalp conditions like dandruff while minimising risk of infection when the skin’s barrier is compromised.

Who Should Use Jojoba Oil?

Jojoba oil is great for all ages, skin types and concerns as it is gentle enough to use undiluted and is unlikely to cause any negative skin reaction. Read on to discover how your skin type can benefit from this wonder oil.

Mature Skin

The combination of antioxidants, vitamins, and fatty acids in jojoba oil makes it a fantastic age-defence treatment. Regular use can:

  • Improve skin elasticity.

  • Minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

  • Maintain a hydrated, healthy glow.

By maintaining hydration and protecting against oxidative stress, jojoba oil slows down the visible signs of aging, keeping the skin resilient and plump.

Sensitive Skin

Many commercial skincare products contain synthetic fragrances and preservatives that can trigger irritation in sensitive skin. Jojoba oil is naturally hypoallergenic and free of common irritants, making it suitable for even the most delicate skin.

Because it’s so gentle, jojoba oil can be applied directly to the skin without the need for dilution.

This makes it an excellent choice for:

  • Sensitive baby skin.

  • People prone to allergies and skin conditions such as dermatitis.

  • Post-procedure recovery such as chemical peels or laser treatments.

  • Anyone experiencing sunburn.

Acne Prone Skin

If you have acne prone skin, it makes sense to want to keep oil far away from your skin. However, jojoba oil is uniquely suited to support and balance acne prone skin.

  • Its similarity to our skin’s sebum signals to the skin that it has enough oil, balancing and reducing the greasy environment in which acne-causing bacteria thrive.

  • Its antibacterial properties help prevent infection in existing blemishes.

  • Its anti-inflammatory action reduces redness and swelling, speeding up the healing process.

  • It also supports post-acne treatment by accelerating wound healing and minimising risk of acne scarring.

Things to Keep in Mind with Jojoba Oil Skincare Use

When purchasing jojoba oil or jojoba oil infused skincare, it’s important to buy organic jojoba oil that is cold pressed and cosmetic grade to ensure you are delivering the best quality oil to your skin.

If you are using pure, fresh jojoba oil it will have a light golden hue. Any changes to the colour or smell may mean it has expired. Generally speakingjojoba oil will stay fresh for up to 2 years provided it is stored correctly (away from heat, air and light).

If you’re new to using jojoba oil in skincare, here are a few simple tips to get you started:

Patch test first: Although rare, skin can be complicated and reactions can occur at any time. Apply a small amount to your inner arm before using it on your face.

Start simple with small amounts: Use jojoba oil as a nighttime moisturiser on the face to see how your skin reacts and gradually introduce it to other areas of your routine such as the body and hair. A little also goes a long way so start with a few drops and you can always add more.

Layering tip: Apply jojoba oil after water-based serums but before heavier skincare products such as creams and balms.

Mix with makeup for a glowing skin tint: Combine a drop of jojoba oil with your foundation or BB cream for a healthy, dewy finish.
