Sensitive Skin? Kojic Acid Might Be Your New Brightening Solution

0

Frequently Asked Questions

What is kojic acid, and what does it do?

Kojic acid is a substance derived by funghi—namely, mushrooms, according to Dr. Graf. It’s best known for its skin-brightening properties, since it acts as a tyrosinase inhibitor (which, like we mentioned, interferes with and slows the pigment production process, resulting in less pigment and therefore, more even skin tone). Unlike, say, salicylic acid, its primary function in skin doesn’t involve exfoliation.

“Tyrosinase inhibitors are commonly used in skin care products due to their ability to help with dark spots and uneven skin tone,” says Dr. Woolery-Lloyd. And they work best in groups, which is why you can find kojic acid paired with other tyrosinase inhibitors like vitamin C, licorice extract, and tranexamic acid. (The benefit of vitamin C is that it also functions as an antioxidant, thus neutralizing the free radicals that can lead to more discoloration when left unchecked.)

Since acne scars, sun spots, and hyperpigmentation benefit from a multi-pronged approach, you’ll also find it alongside niacinamide, which works in a different way—by inhibiting the transfer of melanosomes, or bundles of pigment, to skin’s surface, if you want to get nerdy about it—to even out skin tone. As it’s an active ingredient, you can usually find it in face serums and treatments instead of toners and cleansers—as they allow for high concentrations.

According to Dr. Shirazi, the sweet spot for kojic acid in a serum is 1 to 2%. “Kojic acid needs to be in the first five ingredients mentioned on the bottle to mean it’s actually doing the work,” she says.

What are the potential side effects of kojic acid?

While at the levels found in over-the-counter products, kojic acid is unlikely to have any side effects, it can cause “skin irritation, redness, and dryness, especially with higher concentrations or prolonged use,” says Dr. Graf. For that reason, if you know you have sensitive skin, consider patch-testing it or taking a gradual approach (use it twice a week and work your way up from there).

And, although sunscreen use should be a habit anyway—especially if you’re dealing with discoloration—“it can also increase skin’s sensitivity to sunlight, so I recommend always wearing sun protection during use,” she says.

How long does kojic acid take to work?

While it can vary from person to person, “some may see improvements in skin tone and a reduction of dark spots within four to six weeks of consistent use,” says Dr. Graf. Again, that assumes you’re wearing sunscreen, since sun exposure can undo kojic acid’s hard work. And she does warn that severe hyperpigmentation can take longer to fade—think three months or more.

What should you not use with kojic acid?

When using kojic acid, it’s important to be aware of the ingredients in other formulas you’re using. According to Dobos, skin-care products with a very low pH, like those containing AHAs or BHAs, can lead to increased irritation and dryness when paired with kojic acid.

Dr. Greenfield also advises against using harsh acids or prescription retinoids alongside kojic acid, as they can further irritate the skin. To minimize the risk of adverse reactions, Dobos recommends performing a patch test before introducing kojic acid into your routine. Also, if you regularly use a retinoid, alternate usage of the two—retinol one night, kojic acid on the other.

Inside Dossier’s creator collaboration model for fragrance innovation

0

Creator partnerships have become an increasingly visible part of fragrance innovation strategies, raising questions for manufacturers, ingredient suppliers and production partners about how these collaborations are structured behind the scenes. For brands, the challenge lies in scaling a social media persona into a commercially viable fragrance while maintaining brand standards.

In this Q&A, Ines Guien, COO and head of the creative lab, and Elsa Levy, CMO at Dossier, discuss how the company approaches creator-led fragrance development, using its latest collaboration with Lauren Giraldo as a reference point.

The conversation explores Dossier’s end-to-end process, offering insight into what this collaboration model means for partners across the fragrance value chain.

CDU: From a product development standpoint, how does Dossier structure the collaboration process with a creator, from initial concepting through final fragrance approval, to ensure the scent aligns with both the creator’s personal narrative and Dossier’s brand standards?

Guien and Levy: We view the creators we work with as true partners throughout the process. Once we sign a partner, we kick off with a conversation where my product development team can learn more about them.

We ask questions about their scent likes and dislikes – if there are any notes in particular they like along with more general questions about their lives such as their favorite places to visit or favorite foods. All of these questions help us establish the creator’s scent profile.

Once we have a good idea of the direction we’re going in, we get to work mixing up a few different variations that we think will be a hit. From there we usually do about 2 or 3 rounds of edits to the initial fragrance before finalizing.

We’ve been so lucky to work with partners who trust our expertise in bringing their ideas to life.

CDU: How are creators like Lauren Giraldo involved in olfactive decision-making, and what frameworks or guardrails does Dossier use to translate a creator’s lifestyle, audience, and emotional cues into a commercially viable fragrance brief?

Guien and Levy: Our partners are truly partners throughout the entire process and are fully integrated into the process. All of our partners were Dossier fans before we entered into a formal partnership, so they understand the brand – our ethos, our commitment to quality, our vision, etc. – from the beginning making for a smooth collaboration process.

When we work with a creator, we start the perfume-making process by hosting what we call “sniff-session”. During this meeting we work with the creator to understand their fragrance likes and dislikes, while having them experience different perfume notes to get a better understanding of who they are and what type of perfume they’d like to create with us.

It all comes together to create a perfume that captures the essence of the creator. Sometimes we’re looking to capture a specific moment in time or memory, and other times we’re trying to capture a mood. As we get into the visual components for the perfume, we also work with our partners to ensure the packaging captures the vibe they’re after.

CDU: Can you walk us through how Dossier balances creative input with technical considerations such as ingredient selection, IFRA compliance, cost targets, and scalability when developing a creator-led fragrance?

Guien and Levy: At Dossier, creative freedom never comes at the expense of quality or technical rigor; the two are designed to work together from day one.

When it comes to ingredient selection, our standard is non-negotiable. Whether we are developing a Dossier Original, Impression or a creator-led fragrance, we always work with the highest-quality ingredients available.

We collaborate closely with top perfumers and creators, but the quality bar at Dossier remains exactly the same across all projects. That consistency is part of our DNA and never changes.

IFRA compliance is equally important. Every fragrance we develop is fully IFRA-compliant and adheres to our internal quality charter. This is not a constraint we work around; it’s a framework we design within from the very beginning of the creative process.

On cost targets and scalability, our approach is intentionally holistic. One of the ways we enable both creativity and scale is through a highly standardized component ecosystem.

Across our fragrances, we use the same core elements: the same bottle, cap, and pump, which allows us to focus our creative and technical efforts where they truly matter: the juice, the label, and the packaging design. This structure gives us operational efficiency while preserving full creative expression.

From there, we continuously optimize. Our goal is always to create fragrances with strong commercial potential while improving cost efficiency over time as volumes scale.

Cost targets, scalability, and supply chain considerations are fully embedded in our development process, but they have never limited creativity. Instead, they allow us to bring high-quality, creator-led fragrances to market in a way that is sustainable, repeatable, and accessible.

In short, at Dossier, creativity and execution are not trade-offs; they are built to scale together.

CDU: What role does consumer insight or data, such as audience demographics, usage occasions, or purchasing behavior, play in shaping the fragrance profile and positioning of a creator collaboration like Dulce Flor?

Guien and Levy: For creator-led collaborations like Sweet Flowerwe take a slightly different approach to consumer insight. One that is deeply rooted in authenticity rather than traditional top-down data alone.

While we of course understand audience demographics and purchasing behaviors at a macro level, we place a great deal of trust in the creator’s own taste, intuition, and relationship with their community. Our belief is simple: if a fragrance genuinely resonates with the creator, it will naturally resonate with their audience.

That emotional alignment is incredibly powerful and difficult to replicate.

Creators like Lauren Girlado, who we collaborated with for Sweet Flower, have built a strong sense of authority and credibility with their audience over time. They understand not only what their community likes, but also how they live, how they express themselves, and when fragrance fits into their daily rituals.

That insight becomes a guiding force throughout the development process—from the olfactive direction to the positioning of the fragrance.

CDU: From a supply chain and manufacturing perspective, what additional planning or flexibility is required for creator collaborations compared to core fragrance launches, particularly in terms of forecasting, sourcing, and speed to market?

Guien and Levy: From a process standpoint, creator collaborations follow the same operational framework as our core fragrance launches. We deliberately designed our supply chain to be robust and repeatable, so we don’t reinvent the wheel for each project. That consistency is key to maintaining quality, reliability, and speed as we scale.

Where creator collaborations differ is primarily in volume expectations and responsiveness. These launches often generate higher initial demand and stronger momentum, so forecasting requires closer monitoring, especially in the early weeks post-launch.

Rather than overproducing upfront, we focus on building flexibility into the system and staying extremely reactive on replenishment once we see how the fragrance performs in the market.

Our ability to do this comes from two main strengths.

First, we operate with a highly standardized component ecosystem—shared bottles, caps, and pumps across most of our assortment—which significantly reduces sourcing complexity and lead times. Second, our innovation and production cycles are intentionally fast, allowing us to scale volumes quickly when demand accelerates.

CDU: Looking ahead, how do you see creator partnerships influencing fragrance innovation pipelines, and what should ingredient suppliers and manufacturing partners understand about supporting this growing collaboration model?

Guien and Levy: Creator partnerships are one important pillar of our fragrance innovation strategy, alongside our own original collections and our core impressions.

They are not the only way we innovate, but when there is a strong creative and cultural fit, they are incredibly exciting for us and can bring something truly distinctive to the brand.

Chats with Eve: Tips to Balance Your Hormones

0

All about feeling good inside-out and taking care of your hormones holistically? So are we, and it turns out thousands of women are too.

That’s why we’re SO excited for you to meet the newest women’s wellness brand to hit our shelves. They’ve taken New Zealand by storm, and have just launched here in Australia…

Meet Eve Wellness. With goodies like Period Pal and Bloat Buddy it’s safe to say they really could be your body’s new BFF.

But don’t be fooled by their cute and cheeky packaging. They’re serious about women’s wellness. With a science-backed, women-founded and formulated range, they’ve tested over 14,000 women’s hormones, and found that 87% are experiencing hormonal imbalance. They’re on a mission to change this, so more women can live a balanced life.

Ready to meet Eve’s Co-Founder, Beatrice and hear more about their bestselling range? Beatrice shares where Eve began, her non-negotiables to feeling nourished, and so much more.

Welcome Eve! We’re so excited for our community to get to know your range. How are you supporting women with their wellness?

Eve is on a mission to end the shame surrounding taboo health topics like periods, hormones, sexual and mental wellbeing. We offer scientifically backed solutions and support for Evies on a hormone journey. Far too many have struggled with shame in these areas and it holds us back from seeking help or guidance when we truly need it, and we’re over it.

We’re here to dismantle stigmas and talk about taboo topics, setting a new (cheeky) standard for menstrual, mental, and intimate health.

We are deeply proud of how our products truly make a difference to people’s lives in areas that truly matter.

How did Eve begin?

Eve was inspired by Co-Founder Beatrice’s own hormonal journey that took her to her health rock bottom. She figured other people must be going through this too, we just needed to start talking about it. This sewed the first seed for Eve to grow from.

But we didn’t dive straight into making supplements. Unlike any other supplement brands we know, we started by building a lab, hiring scientists and researchers with a goal of learning what works for women! We used key trends and data from our lab to formulate supplements for the issues people are struggling with the most.

What makes your women’s wellness product range unique?

Aside from the huge amount of real data backing up our range, we made sure our products actually work. This should be a given for a health product, right? Wrong.

You’d be surprised how many supplements will do nada because the dosage is too low’not us. We have a strict formulation code that we stick to fiercely and passionately, ensuring that everything we produce is actually going to help.

Where would you recommend someone new to Eve’s range start?

It’s hard to get past the original hormone heroine: Period Pal. The product that our Co-Founder will swear by for life! Designed to regulate a healthy menstrual cycle, relieve irregular periods (goodbye surprise arrivals and leaky moments”¦), and relieve PMS this product has been a game changer for so many.

We can’t not mention our best-seller, Blood Sugar Babe. Packed with a juicy 4000 mg myo-inositol, this absolute cult fave helps support healthy blood sugar levels, sugar metabolism, hormonal balance and relieves symptoms of acne. It’s an entirely tasteless powder that dissolves instantly making it super easy to take on the daily.

Healthy blood sugar levels are essential for happy hormones ’ what are your favourite tips for blood sugar balance?

There are so many things we can do to support our blood sugars:

  • Regular movement is a godsend for blood sugar regulation. Anything from a walk to a weights session in the gym will work.
  • No coffee on an empty stomach! For many of us this is a sure fire way to shoot your blood sugar levels sideways.
  • Eat your veggies first, then your protein and fats, and your carbs last. Eating in this order is one of the best blood sugar balancing hacks out there.
  • Use Blood Sugar Babe! Myo-inositol at our 4000 mg dose is researched to genuinely support healthy blood sugar levels – handy for those of us who are in need of some more balance in this area.

What are your daily non-negotiables to nourish your body?

Our top tips for nourishing your body, and supporting your hormones at the same time are:

  • Aim to have 30g protein with your breakfast. This keeps your blood sugars stable, gives you smooth energy and keeps you fuller for longer, and gives your body the building blocks it needs to make hormones and thrive overall. Hint: 2 eggs is not enough protein!
  • Eat as many greens and veggies as you can. Sneak them into sauces, smoothies or baking. Roast up a big tray, or get some salad inspo from Pinterest. A variety of plants helps to nurture a rich and diverse microbiome which is key for digestion, hormonal balance, detoxification, mental wellbeing – basically everything.
  • We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: no coffee on an empty stomach!
  • Don’t skip the supps. Incorporating quality supplements into your daily routine will genuinely and truly give your health a leg up. The science doesn’t lie: supplementation at research-backed dosages (like ours) helps.

Ultimate wellness hack?

Track your cycle, log your symptoms and log your ovulation. Your body is sending you messages every single day but in our busy lives we often don’t stop for long enough to hear them. Tracking your cycle will give you insights into how your health is truly tracking, and give you the knowledge and empowerment to make change. Myself and most of our team use the Flo app.

Can You Really ‘Scoop Out’ Your Period?

0

Social media has a way of turning medical misinformation into viral trends, and the latest example is making gynecologists everywhere cringe. Videos claiming that you can simply “scoop out” your period have racked up millions of views. Some posts even suggest that doctors can do this ahead of big events like weddings, vacations, or athletic competitions to avoid bleeding altogether.

It sounds almost too good to be true. And according to ob-gyns, it absolutely is.

The viral videos imply that menstrual blood—or even the uterine lining itself—can be removed in one quick step, preventing a period entirely. But that’s not how menstruation works.

“The duration of the menstrual cycle is determined by the shedding of the uterine lining, which passes through the cervix and the vagina prior to leaving the body,” Christie Cobb, MD, FACOG, tells SELF.

“Removing what is in the vagina with the fingers is essentially the same as inserting and immediately removing a tampon. It might flush what is present in the moment, but will not change the flow from the uterus.”

Not only is it not an effective strategy, it isn’t safe either.

“This is definitely not something to be attempted at home. First, there is the risk of injury from scrapes or cuts to the vaginal mucosa or cervix from finger nails,” Dr. Cobb says.

It can also increase the risk of infection by introducing bacteria or yeast, and it may throw off the vagina’s natural pH—especially if water or soap is involved, Dr. Cobb explains.

Your doctor won’t ‘scoop out’ your period

While doctors do perform a procedure called dilation and curettage (D&C), it is done for removing the remaining tissue after an abortion or miscarriage, or for collecting tissue samples to diagnose certain conditions that might cause abnormal bleeding. It isn’t used to shorten the duration of a patient’s period.

“In the classic D&C, you’re using a metal instrument to scrape the lining of the uterus,” Samantha Kaplan, MD, MPH, an ob-gyn at Boston Medical Center tells SELF.

“We also have suction triage. It can be manual or it can be electric, and these are procedures that might be done in someone who is postmenopausal or premenopausal…. Even the most effective treatments to remove uterine lining are extensive,” she says.

The surgical procedure is also used to stop severe, medically dangerous bleeding, Karen Tang, MD, board-certified ob-gyn and author of It’s Not Hysteriatells SELF.

Is Adapalene Gel Good for Acne Scars?

0

Adapalene gel is a topical medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as retinoids. It is used to treat acne and works by preventing the formation of blackheads, whiteheads, and other acne lesions.

It also helps to normalize the shedding of dead skin cells, which can help reduce clogged pores and inflammation.

However, as a retinoid, adapalene can also help improve mild to moderate acne scars.

Therefore, in this article, we will discuss how adapalene gel works to help reduce acne scars and whether or not it is a good option for you.

NB: I can show you how to never have acne again. If you have acne and want it goneread this message.

What is Adapalene Gel?

Adapalene is a topical retinoid used to treat mild to moderate acne.

Available in over-the-counter gels in 0.1% concentration and prescription-strength gels in 0.3% concentration, this gel-based treatment is most effective when applied directly to the acne-prone areas on your face.

How Does Adapalene Work?

Adapalene is a type of retinoid or a vitamin A-derivative that works by binding to receptors in the skin and “teaching” the skin cells to behave in a “younger” way.

When the cells behave this way, they tend to regenerate and turnover faster than usual, improving the complexion by reducing the buildup of dead skin cells that typically clog pores and cause acne.

Adapalene also helps reduce inflammation and effectively treats open comedones, closed comedones, and inflamed pimples.

Is Adapalene Gel Good for Acne Scars?

Adapalene gel can help fade some types of acne scarring, including discoloration, such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and post-inflammatory erythema, which are the red dots that remain on the skin after a pimple has healed.

Additionally, adapalene can help smooth out skin texture, which is why it can have some positive effect on textural scarring, such as atrophic scarring, which includes ice pick, rolling, and boxcar-type scarring, as well as hypertrophic scarring, such as keloids.

However, it is important to note that adapalene gel cannot erase or completely eliminate textural acne scarring, and professional treatments such as microneedling or lasers are often required to achieve the best results.

How Long Does it Take for Adapalene to Remove Acne Scars?

How Long Does it Take for Adapalene to Remove Acne Scars

When it comes to fading discoloration and pigmented acne scarring, you should start seeing results after using adapalene for at least three months.

How quick or slow the healing process of acne scars is depends entirely on the scar itself, your skin’s ability to regenerate, and the severity of acne.

Additionally, your skincare routine will also play a huge part in your healing journey, so make sure to use nourishing products that will help improve the skin’s barrier rather than inflammatory ones that can make your skin worse and slow down healing by constantly triggering inflammation.

In some cases, it might take up to a year of consistent adapalene use to significantly improve your skin, but most people start to see results within the first three months of regular use.

Additionally, when it comes to textural acne scarring, adapalene is most effective when used along with professional treatments, such as microneedling or laser treatments, and can provide excellent results after a few months to a year, depending on the severity of the scars.

How Do You Know if Adapalene is Working?

When you start using adapalene, it will take about a week for its effects to become visible.

However, there are a few stages of adapalene treatment you will have to go through in the beginning before seeing skin improvement.

Here are a few signs that adapalene is working:

Purging – the initial stage of breaking out and purging the clogs that would’ve turned into pimples at different points in time which lasts between four and twelve weeks.

Mild peeling – this can happen after the very first time using adapalene, and it’s a sign that the treatment is starting to work by throwing your skin into the retinization phase, which can last a few weeks.

Reduced inflammation – once the initial purging and peeling slow down, you will start to notice reduced inflammation and less redness.

Smaller pimples – during this stage, you will also notice smaller pimples that heal quicker than usual and are a part of the final stage of purging.

Less frequent breakouts – once your skin has finished purging, it will start to balance out, and you will experience less frequent breakouts.

Faded hyperpigmentation – this is the stage when you start to see your skin tone evening out and pigmentation slowly fading away.

Refined skin texture – once the discoloration is fading, you will start to notice your skin texture looking smoother and softer.

Does Adapalene Have Side Effects?

Although adapalene is efficient in healing active acne, this ingredient has some potential side effects.

The most feared side effect of adapalene is purging, which is a stage of the skin’s healing process in which the active ingredient causes an increase in cellular turnover.

This can result in more breakouts that can be moderate to severe and can last anywhere between 4-12 weeks.

Other potential side effects of adapalene include:

  • Dryness.
  • Itching.
  • Redness.
  • Peeling.
  • Burning.

Experiencing these side effects isn’t uncommon; however, if the discomfort becomes unbearable, it’s important to take this as a sign and adjust your adapalene usage and skincare routine.

Switching to a gentle, non-irritating cleanser as well as adding a heavy-duty moisturizer and high SPF as part of your morning routine, can help combat some of the drying and irritating effects of using this ingredient.

The Best Adapalene Gels for Acne Scars

Here are the three best adapalene gels for acne and acne scars:

Differin 0.1% Adapalene Treatment Gel, $18

Differin 0.1% Adapalene Treatment Gel

The OG adapalene, this Differin 0.1% Adapalene Treatment Gel has been on the market for longest and is a very effective yet gentle treatment for acne and scars.

With a smooth gel-cream texture, this gel works well for both severe and occasional breakouts, as well as textural and discoloration scars.

Proactiv MD Adapalene Gel Acne Treatment, $36

Proactiv MD Adapalene Gel Acne Treatment

This Proactiv MD Adapalene Gel Acne Treatment is a less-known yet efficient gel treatment for acne and acne scars.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Adapalene Gel 0.1%, $37

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Adapalene Gel 0.1%

Finally, the newest addition of adapalene to the skincare market is the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Adapalene Gel 0.1%.

With a smoother consistency than Differin’s and Proactiv’s adapalene, La Roche-Posay’s treatment is considered gentler and more suitable for sensitive skin.

Boots CEO Ornella Barra steps down after nearly a decade at the helm

0

THE WHAT? Boots Chief Executive Officer Ornella Barra is stepping down from her role after leading the British health and beauty retailer for almost ten years.

THE DETAILS Barra will transition to Chair of the Board, replacing Stefano Pessina, and will take oversight of the company’s ESG agenda. Pessina, a major shareholder, will remain on the board following the separation of Boots from Walgreens Boots Alliance, which was acquired by Sycamore Partners in a US$10 billion deal last year.

Since the transaction, Boots has been operating as a private, UK-headquartered business. The Boots Group now encompasses pharmacy-led health and beauty operations globally, as well as a pharmaceutical wholesale business in Germany. Anthony Hemmerdinger, currently Senior Vice President and Managing Director for the UK, Ireland and Opticians, will assume expanded responsibilities, including oversight of No7 Beauty and group-level functions.

THE WHY? The leadership change marks a new chapter for Boots as it continues to operate independently following its separation from Walgreens Boots Alliance. Barra’s move to chair signals continuity in governance and ESG priorities, while the expanded remit for Hemmerdinger reflects a focus on streamlining leadership across health and beauty operations.

Seven Smart Uses for Bar Soap

0

Confession: I look forward to getting dirty just to get clean again since I started using high‑quality, handcrafted bar soaps. They’ve transformed showering from something mundane to something sublime. There’s nothing like lifting a big Osmia bar off its soap-saver throne, lathering it between your hands, and watching the dirt slide away. Plus, the lingering scent of lavender, vetiver, or lemongrass turns your bathroom into a mini-spa.

But beyond cleansing, soap has many unexpected uses. Here are some of my favorite smart soap hacks:

1) Clean Your Makeup Brushes

Dermatologists recommend washing your makeup brushes once a week to avoid build-up and breakouts. Don’t think they’re dirty? Check out Refinery29’s results after sending their editors’ makeup brushes to a lab. Ready to wash your makeup brushes now???

To clean your brushes, wet a brush with lukewarm water, grab a bar of our Oh So Soap or Oh So Detox Soapand gently rub the brush over the bar until it’s nice and soapy. Then, wash the bristles against the palm of your hand, and rinse completely. Continue this process until the water runs completely clear. Shake the brush to remove excess water, and place on a clean washcloth to dry overnight. Repeat weekly.

2) Use Soap To Freshen Your Drawers

Keep your socks and undies smelling sweet with the help of our natural bar soap. Place a bar in your closet, your sock drawer, or your underwear drawer and get a refreshing whiff of essential oils every time you enter your closet or open a drawer. We recommend our Citrus Pearl, Lavender Pineand Vetiver Grey for their long-lasting, beautiful scents.

3) Use Bar Soap As A Shampoo Bar

Get your locks sudsy with a bar of soap. Use the bar directly on your wet hair to create a creamy lather, then rinse completely. We absolutely love our Naked Body Soap for a shampoo bar. Follow with your favorite conditioner!

Caucasian person lathering up brown hair with soapy hands

4) Use Bar Soap As Shaving Cream

Who needs shaving cream (and yet another bulky, probably non-recyclable container) to get a close shave? We know old habits die hard, but this is a no-brainer.

Try lathering your legs with our Oh So Body Soap and shave away—the low lather and extra olive oil give it a lovely slip under your razor. For super silky legs, scrub with our Himalayan Body Buff firstrinse clean, shave with one of our soaps, and finish up with your favorite Osmia body mousse.

5) Use Bar Soap To Wash Your Underwear

I recently had to employ this trick when I picked up Influenza A while traveling, and had to spend an extra five days locked in a hotel room with way too few pairs of underwear. I had a bar of our gentle Oh So Body Soap with me, and it did the trick perfectly. As for your fancy undies, no need for expensive lingerie washes—a quick wash with a natural bar soap works like a charm. 5) Use Soap To Wash Your Underwear

6) Use Bar Soap For Restless Leg Syndrome???

The jury (at least the scientific one) is still out on this one, but there’s anecdotal evidence to suggest that some people with Restless Leg Syndrome experience some relief from symptoms when they sleep with a bar of soap under the bottom sheet. Sound bananas? Check out these search results! It’s not the New England Journal, but some people are true believers!

7) Use Bar Soap To Unstick A Zipper

Jacket season is right around the corner, and there’s nothing more annoying than being stuck in your coat, thanks to a stubborn zipper. Grab a dry bar of any Osmia soap, rub it on the jammed zipper teeth, continue to work the zipper gently, and take a whiff of freedom when your zipper is back on track.

With love and smart soap tricks,

This Vitamin Could Play a Major Role in How Well You Poop

0

When you’re struggling yet again to poop, you might wonder if there’s a better way to stay regular. While you’ve probably heard of doing things like upping your fiber intake and drinking more water, new research suggests a slightly different approach—and it involves a vitamin.

A new study published in the journal Gut found a link between vitamin B1 and good gut motility, aka the movement of food through your GI tract. The findings suggest that making sure you’re on top of your B1 intake in the future could lower the odds you’ll be backed up going forward.

Before you toss vitamin B1 supplements in your cart, there are a few things to keep in mind. Here’s what gastroenterologists want you to know.

It took two analyses to find the link between B1 and pooping.

For the study, researchers analyzed genetic and questionnaire data from nearly 269,000 people to try to find genes linked to gut motility. The researchers found that the participants had a daily stool frequency (i.e. how many times they pooped a day) that ranged from 0.98 to 1.42 bowel movements.

When they crunched the data, the researchers were able to locate three genetic variants that influence gut motility: rs12407945 in European participants, and rs2581260 and rs12022782 in the multi-ancestry analysis. But they also found that two of the variants influence the activation of B1 and its transport around the body.

In a follow-up analysis of nearly 98,500 people who participated in the UK Biobank, the research team found a strong link between how much vitamin B1 people took in and how often they pooped, suggesting that vitamin B1 helped people go No.2.

The researchers wrote in the conclusion that this is a “previously unrecognized role for vitamin B1.”

There are a few theories on why B1 helps you poop.

Technically, the study just found a link between vitamin B1, aka thiamine, and pooping frequency—it didn’t explore the exact reason behind this. “We still do not know the exact mechanisms,” Mauro D’Amato, PhD, study co-author and professor of Medical Genetics at LUM University, tells SELF. But doctors say there may be something to this.

“Vitamin B1 may improve intestinal motility by supporting the production of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that stimulates contractions in the gastrointestinal system,” Marie Borum, MD, MPH, director of the Division of Gastroenterology at GW Medical Faculty Associates, tells SELF.

LVMH weathers 2025 downturn, recovery begins to take hold

The world’s leading luxury group, LVMH, saw net profit slide 13 percent in 2025 to 10.9 billion euros (USD 13.1 billion) as an exceptional tax on large French companies weighed on its bottom line. According to LVMH, the exceptional tax resulted in a four-percentage-point increase in the group’s effective tax rate.

But sales at the company, best known for Louis Vuitton handbags, Dior fashion and cosmetic products, Guerlain fragrances, Moët & Chandon champagne and Tiffany jewelry, also dropped by five percent to 80.8 billion euros as tariffs and geopolitical uncertainty hit consumer sentiment.

Across the 2025 financial year, wine and spirits division took the hardest hit with a nine percent drop in sales amid adverse exchange-rate effects, customs duties, and constrained pricing power.

However the top fashion and leather goods division, which accounts for nearly half of overall sales, also saw an eight percent drop in sales.

Perfumes and cosmetics held up betterposting a 3% decline in sales but an 8% increase in operating profit.

In the selective distribution segment, business remained stable, with the operating margin increasing by two points to 9.7%. LVMH highlighted the strong sales momentum and performance of Sephora. The Group also continues to reorganize DFS, following the recent sale of its Chinese operations.

LVMH said it “showed good resilience and maintained its innovative momentum despite a disrupted geopolitical and economic environment” last year.

“The group’s results are solid,” said Chairman and CEO Bernard Arnaultdespite “a turbulent year both economically and geopolitically,” when presenting the results.

“Despite a geopolitical and macroeconomic environment that remains uncertain, the Group remains confident” for 2026, it added in its earnings statement.

In particular, LVMH said sales in the United States grew in the second half of 2025 thanks to solid demand.
