Carey Mulligan’s character in Beef is a c*nt. I want to be her

0

In case there was still any doubt over her levels of pettiness, though, Lindsay proceeds to brag to her husband about the time she turned her colleagues at Oliver Peoples against “this one kid,” Mark Ritter (“what a c*nt!”), until he quit. “He had no idea it was me,” she muses, with a faint smile curling up at the corner of her mouth.

Of course, the fact that Mulligan is British adds an entirely wonderful layer to her character (who also has a jumpered dachshund named Burberry, naturally). In no small part because of her accent and eccentricities, Lindsay can get away with the vast majority of her foul-mouthed rants and bitchy quips. Even in the height of a raging argument, she will casually drop in the fact they haven’t completed their herb garden in five years or shrug off taking a golf club to Josh’s possessions with a breezy, “Just got a bit carried away.”

Then there’s her interior design career. Showing the new club owner, a powerful Korean heiress named Chairwoman Park, her redecorating skills, Lindsay parades around in a silky floral suit that could give Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen a run for his money – that, or the Von Trapp children.

When her tastes are said to be “colonial”, she replies, in all earnestness, “Oh, thank you so much!”

Her antiquated world views aside, it is the mundanity of married, suburban life that seeps into her everyday, along with impossible beauty standards and pressure to get plastic surgery as she turns 40 – and she’s simply had enough.

How Taking a GLP-1 Could Affect Your Bone Health

0

When it comes to treating obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other chronic health conditions, GLP-1 agonist drugs–such as Ozempic, Zepbound, and Wegovy–have been a gamechanger for literally millions of Americans.

But as with any medication, these drugs can deliver unwelcome side effects. And a recent study that just garnered a bunch of attention raised the possibility of new ones.

The research, which was presented at the 2026 American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons annual meeting in March and has not yet been peer-reviewed, found a link between GLP-1 use and increased risk of bone issues, including osteoporosis (weak, brittle bones) and osteomalacia (soft bones). The study also found a link between GLP-1 use and heightened risk of gout, a type of arthritis that causes pain and swelling in the joints.

The lead study author said he became interested in whether GLP-1s might affect bone and other connective tissue after some of his patients “developed serious tendon tears following relatively minor injuries,” according to NBC News. After analyzing five years of medical records from nearly 147,000 adults with type 2 diabetes and obesity, the study authors concluded that GLP-1 use was associated with a “significantly increased” risk of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, and gout.

Of course, this news is likely unsettling for anyone on these medications. But should we be legit worried about these findings? And how exactly could GLP-1s harm bone health in the first place? We tapped two experts for answers, along with practical tips for protecting bone health while taking GLP-1s.

How concerning are these findings?

First, some relieving news: As of now, there is “no sound scientific evidence” that suggests GLP-1s directly increase the risk of osteoporosis or osteomalacia,” Marci Laudenslager, MD, an obesity medicine physician with The Johns Hopkins Healthful Eating, Activity & Weight Program, tells SELF. (Same goes for gout, she adds.)

Dr. Laudenslager, who was not involved in the study, points out that it was observational in nature, meaning it looked at correlation…not causation. “While well-conducted observational studies can reveal a potential relationship between a medication and a clinical outcome, they cannot determine whether a medication directly causes that clinical outcome,” she explains.

Another limitation of the study is that it relied on medical records alone, which means it assumed that all patients who were prescribed GLP-1s, as noted in their medical records, were actually taking the drug. In reality, many patients who are prescribed GLP-1s are unable to take them because of cost or medication shortages, Dr. Laudenslager says. Moreover, people who do start taking don’t always continue due to insurance, cost, or problems tolerating the drug, she adds.

Prada Touch Cream-to-Powder Soft Blur Blush

Prada Beauty launched a new cream blush called the Touch Cream-to-Powder Soft Blur Blush ($42 each). I splurged on a few of the shades to try and I think they’re worth the hype! These are cream blushes with an ultra lightweight formula. It blends like a dream without any effort and I love how it sets to a blurred soft matte finish on the skin.

Lasting power is very good for a cream blush although I haven’t been able to put it to the humidity test as it’s a pretty mild spring here in Miami Beach weather-wise.

Prada Touch Cream-to-Powder Soft Blur Blush

Packaging is super cute, stackable, unique and I love the pale pink color! Color is easy to blend and build. I do wish there was a little mirror inside, but it’s not a deal breaker. I actually love the minimalist packaging.

Shades I picked out all seem to work well on my medium-tan skin. I’m wearing the Dior Forever Foundation Stick in 3N and the Prada Concealer in MN6. The pigment is really good with these blushes! Not too opaque and not too sheer. It’s just right.

Some of these look a little dark or bold in the compact, but on the skin they blend out to a more natural looking finish. It gives that effortless wash of color. Given how natural they look I might try the Cherry shade before the Sephora sale ends!

I’ve been applying with the fingers, but I also love the Fenty Brush 125, Brush 195 or Hourglass Brush 15.

You can find these now. I bought mine from Sephora.

Jayda Cheaves Night Out Look: Inside the Graffiti Denim and Braids Slay

0

Jayda Cheaves Night Out Look is officially the only thing on my mood board this week because she really did that! Our favorite entrepreneur and style icon stepped out to support her bestie Dess Dior during her performance with Mariah The Scientist, but honestly, Jayda’s outfit was a whole event of its own. It is so refreshing to see her consistently push the boundaries of streetwear while keeping it completely glamorous. From the custom details to the perfect accessories, she reminded us all why she is the undisputed queen of the “it girl” aesthetic.

Let’s get into this hair because the execution was absolutely flawless. Jayda debuted a stunning, complex braided style that featured a beautiful blend of blonde and brown tones. The look was pulled into a high, textured ponytail with intricate feed in braids that gave it so much dimension and movement. That perfectly laid side swoop added just the right amount of edge to her face, making her look both polished and party ready. It is a total 10/10 from us, and we are already manifesting this level of hair perfection for our next salon visit.

The fashion was the ultimate lesson in how to mix luxury with a playful vibe. Jayda rocked a lavender leather bralette layered with a gorgeous diamond body chain that shimmered with every move she made. The real stars of the show, however, were those custom graffiti jeans that featured colorful doodles and distressed details from top to bottom. She finished the ensemble with vibrant turquoise braided heels and a cute blue lollipop earring that added the perfect quirky touch. It is that kind of effortless confidence and attention to detail that keeps us constantly checking her feed for the next major style moment!

These Feminist Books Risk Being Banned In UK Schools. We Must Fight To Defend Them

0

Reading can expand our minds, provide pleasure and comfort, and help us understand ourselves and the world around us. But the freedom to read is under threat in the UK.

Last month, the Index on Censorship reported that a school in Greater Manchester has removed nearly 200 books from its library and, up until she resigned, the school librarian faced a disciplinary hearing and the risk of police involvement for stocking certain ‘inappropriate’ books. These books included the likes of Laura Bates’ Men Who Hate WomenNova Reid’s The Good AllyScarlett Curtis’ Feminists Don’t Wear Pink, Sarah Graham’s Rebel BodiesBernadine Evaristo’s Girl, Woman, Other and Michelle Obama’s memoir, Becoming. What do all these books have in common? They are viewed as ‘inappropriate’ for young people because they cover themes such as feminism, anti-racism, and LGBTQ+ lives.

This isn’t an isolated incident. In fact, research from University College London found that “book-banning and censorship attempts are becoming increasingly prominent within UK school libraries”. And this is all happening in a year where the UK government wants to spotlight reading for pleasure with its 2026 campaign, the National Year of Reading.

Reading amongst younger generations is on the decline, but has been shown to have a positive impact on young people’s career prospects, mental wellbeing, creativity, imagination, and empathy levels. However, according to recent National Literacy Trust research, reading for pleasure among children and teenagers has fallen to its lowest level since 2005. Just one in three eight‑ to 18‑year‑olds say they enjoy reading in their spare time, with teenage boys the least likely to pick up a book. In a time when young people are less likely to pick up a book, restricting and controlling the freedom to read is an even more terrifying prospect. So why are certain books being banned from schools in the UK?

Rebel Bodies explores the systemic and deep-rooted sexism within the world of medicine and what it’ll take to bridge the gender health gap, whilst also shining a light on the patients, doctors and campaigners who are fighting for a better future. Speaking to Glamourauthor Sarah Graham expressed her concern at books being banned, especially in schools. “The banning of books like mine as ‘inappropriate’ is deeply worrying… School libraries should be safe spaces for our children and young people to find resources and information they may not be able to access at home.” She adds that one of the main reasons she wrote her book was to “empower all women and people assigned female at birth with information about their bodies and how to access the healthcare they need and deserve but which, under our current health system, isn’t always easy to come by.” Graham deliberately made Rebel Bodies political because the “personal is political” and that’s “rarely more true than when it comes to women’s bodies.”

“If we’re going to improve women’s health outcomes, we desperately need to be able to have open conversations about our bodies, to destigmatise female health issues, and to insist they’re better prioritised at policy, research and clinical levels; as well as educating women, girls and the wider public. Schools are ideally placed for this and should be supporting these conversations, not censoring them,” adds Graham.

The socio-political context of the US and its influence on British life could be driving censorship in schools. In the US, book censorship has spiralled to unprecedented levels, with states passing laws and regulations to facilitate book bans and politicians (and right-wing groups like Moms for Liberty) using their influence to pressure school leaders into removing certain books from their shelves. And this influence stems from the very top, as, under the guise of ‘returning education to parents’, the Trump administration has released a series of executive orders that bolster and strengthen efforts to censor children’s access to literature.

Can Swapping Out Your Plasma Slow the Aging Process?

0

Discovering the fountain of youth is an age-old pursuit (pun not intended). One of the latest clock-reversing experiments causing a buzz is a technique called therapeutic plasma exchange, a procedure that filters and replaces the liquid portion of your blood. A 2025 study in Aging Cell suggests the technique could lower biological age by two and a half years.

But before you start googling “plasma clinics near me,” it’s important to look past the headlines to what the study’s saying, and what it means—and doesn’t mean—about new plasma as an anti-aging elixir.

Why longevity experts care about plasma

Plasma is more than just the liquid that surrounds the red and white blood cells in your bloodstream. Although it’s mostly water, it’s also rich in proteins, metabolites, hormones, and inflammatory signals—molecules that reflect and influence what’s happening across your organ systems, Andrea Maier, MD, PhD, geriatrician and board member of the Academy for Health and Lifespan Research, tells SELF.

“It’s a transport system like DHL, a vehicle to bring things from your brain to your muscles, from kidney to lungs, and so on. So it’s fluid with lots of information,” she says.

This makes it a smart focal point for longevity studies because it can capture a wide-angle view of your body’s internal state, also sometimes called your “biological age.” By measuring changes in the levels of thousands of circulating proteins in your plasma, you can get some sense of how well you’re functioning.

What that means is you may be 40, but your biology acts more like that of a 30-year-old—or a 50-year-old. It’s not a fixed or precise measurement, but it’s helpful health information, Keenan Walker, PhD, senior investigator at the National Institute on Aging, tells SELF.

“There’s no one biological age, but people try to estimate it,” he says. “And what studies have found is that people whose biological age is older than their chronological age are at greater risk for chronic conditions, diseases, and mortality.”

About 15 years ago, researchers started exploring the connection between plasma and the aging process. This led to experiments using a process called parabiosis, a surgical technique that links together the circulatory systems of two different organisms. In studies, researchers would stitch together the systems of old mice and young mice, with the hypothesis that if you circulated younger plasma in an older organism, the older organism’s body would reap the benefits.

Key Takeaways:

  • Nᴼ.4 Bond Maintenance® Shampoo and Nᴼ.5 Bond Maintenance® Conditioner are the foundation of a healthy hair routine, delivering daily cleansing, conditioning, hydration, and strength for all hair types.
  • For best results, layer Nᴼ.3PLUS Complete Repair Treatment as a pre-shampoo treatment to repair and strengthen hair from the inside out, then maintain those results with Nᴼ.4 Bond Maintenance® Shampoo and Nᴼ.5 Bond Maintenance® Conditioner.
  • Customize your routine with a hair mask like the Rich Hydration or Weightless Nourishing based on your hair type to support moisture, manageability, and long-term hair health.

Jump To:

OLAPLEX Nᴼ.4 Bond Maintenance® Shampoo and Nᴼ.5 Bond Maintenance® Conditioner are daily essentials designed to repair damage, strengthen hair, and restore hydration without weighing the hair down. Formulated with patented OLAPLEX Bond Building Technology™, they support strong, healthy hair with every wash.

Both products are color-safe, SLS/SLES free, paraben-free, and vegan, making them suitable for all hair types and textures.

Step-by-Step: How to Use

Whether you’re new to OLAPLEX or simply updating your routine, Nᴼ.4 Bond Maintenance® Shampoo and Nᴼ.5 Bond Maintenance® Conditioner are designed to work together for hydration. Here’s how to use them for the best results:

Step 1 (optional): Pre-Shampoo Treatment

Strengthening and repairing the hair from the inside out allows for the rest of the routine to work to its fullest potential. For deeper repair in just 3 minutes, use OLAPLEX Nᴼ.3PLUS Complete Repair Treatment 1-3 times per week before shampooing on damp hair.

Step 2: Cleanse

For medium to thick hair, apply OLAPLEX Nᴼ.4 Bond Maintenance® Shampoo to wet hair and massage into the scalp, working through to the ends before rinsing. The richly lathering formula gently yet thoroughly cleanses without stripping or drying to maintain hydrated hair and scalp.

If you have a finer hair texture, theN°.4Fine Bond Maintenance® Shampoo is recommended. Much like OLAPLEX Nᴼ.4 Bond Maintenance® Shampoo, it gently cleanses without stripping or drying the hair but is formulated with an ultra-light volumizing shampoo for fine hair is clinically proven to strengthen, repair, and prevent future damage from everyday elements, styling, or salon services.

Step 3: Condition

After rinsing out the shampoo, apply Nᴼ.5 Bond Maintenance® Conditioner to your mid-lengths and ends. Leave on for 1-3 minutes, depending on how dehydrated your hair feels, and rinse well. This concentrated and color-safe conditioner has been proven to reduce breakage and nourish hair, leaving it smoother, shinier, and more manageable with every wash.

Or, for fine hair, use the N°.5Fine Bond Maintenance® Conditioner, which detangles and smooths the hair without weighing it down, and instead building lasting body, volume, and bounce.

With these three steps combined, you’ve created an unstoppable haircare routine.

The Importance of a Pre-Treatment

The OLAPLEX Nᴼ.3PLUS Complete Repair Treatment is the next level formula replacement for the iconic Nᴼ.3 Hair Perfector®.

Using OLAPLEX Nᴼ.3PLUS Complete Repair Treatment 1-3 times per week as a pre-shampoo treatment helps to repair damage from the past, present, and future. It works internally and externally to strengthen hair, smooth cuticles, and improve overall hair health, making it an important step to a regular weekly routine.

Can You Use OLAPLEX Nᴼ.4 Bond Maintenance® Shampoo and Nᴼ.5 Bond Maintenance® Conditioner Without Nᴼ.3PLUS?

Yes, you can absolutely use OLAPLEX Nᴼ.4 Bond Maintenance® Shampoo and Nᴼ.5 Bond Maintenance® Conditioner on their own for cleansing, conditioning, and daily hair maintenance. However, the best results come from layering. It’s best to repair and fortify the hair in addition to daily maintenance, protection, and extended repair.

Think of OLAPLEX Nᴼ.3PLUS Complete Repair Treatment as the occasional step, with Nᴼ.4 Bond Maintenance® Shampoo and Nᴼ.5 Bond Maintenance® Conditioner as your daily support system.

How to Add a Hair Mask into the Rotation

To further customize your routine, incorporate either the Rich Hydration Mask or Weightless Nourishing Mask, depending on your hair type and moisture needs. Hair masks can be used in place of conditioner to deliver targeted hydration and nourishment without disrupting your routine.

Rich Hydration Mask

The Rich Hydration Mask is best for drier or coarser hair types. Leave on for 5-10 minutes after shampooing with OLAPLEX Nᴼ.4 Bond Maintenance® to deeply moisturize and soften the hair.

Weightless Nourishing Mask

The Weightless Nourishing Mask is ideal for fine hair or those seeking lightweight hydration. Apply the mask after shampooing to hydrate and detangle without weighing the hair down, leaving on for 5-10 minutes before rinsing.

How Often Should You Use It?

Using a hair mask 1-2 times per week is the perfect way to keep your hair healthy and moisturized. On mask days, replace Nᴼ.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner, opting for the mask instead. On non-mask days, use Nᴼ.4 Bond Maintenance® Shampoo and Nᴼ.5 Bond Maintenance® Conditioner to maintain daily repair and hydration.

Healthy Hair Starts With Every Wash

When proper haircare is used consistently, it can help maintain, repair, and protect your hair between treatments, and support healthier-looking hair for all hair types.

When used in tandem with OLAPLEX Nᴼ.3PLUS Complete Repair Treatment and a good hair mask, the hair is preserved and repair is extended, keeping it healthy, manageable, and resilient over time.

Beauty Pie Le Masque Micro-Caviar Overnight Moisture Mask Review

If you’ve been searching for a hydrating overnight face mask that actually delivers by morning, the Beauty Pie Le Masque Micro-Caviar Overnight Moisture Mask is one to have firmly on your radar.

I first heard about this Beauty Pie overnight mask at the launch of their LED mask (which is excellent, by the way, and very well spec’d – I have a review post here). One of the team told me their favourite routine was to use the LED mask and then follow with this overnight treatment for maximum glow.

Fast forward a few months, I finally got my hands on it, and I have to say, it has completely lived up to the hype.

What is Beauty Pie Le Masque Micro-Caviar Overnight Moisture Mask?

The Beauty Pie Le Masque Micro-Caviar Overnight Moisture Mask is an overnight mask designed to deeply hydrate, nourish and restore the skin while you sleep.

Its standout feature is the suspended micro-capsules, which are tiny beads dispersed through a soft pink gel. These capsules burst on contact with the skin, releasing nourishing oils that transform the texture as you massage it in.

This kind of formula is often seen in much more expensive skincare, which is why it’s quickly being talked about as a luxury skincare dupe.

Key Ingredients

Precious cherry blossom fusion – sustainably sourced in Provence, France

Omega-9 complex – Micro-Algae Triglyceride Oil containing over 90% of beneficial Omega-9 Oleic Acid

Saffron extract – natural antioxidant to help promote a youthful-looking complexion

Meadowfoam seed oil – skin-softening long-chain Fatty Acids with vitamins A and E

Shea Butter – to nourish dry and dehydrated skin

Beauty Pie Le Masque Micro-Caviar Overnight Moisture Mask Review

I’ve been testing the Beauty Pie Le Masque Micro-Caviar Overnight Moisture Mask for a few weeks now, and it’s one of those products that very quickly earns a permanent place in your routine.

First Impressions

This is a really intriguing formula from the outset. The soft pink gel is filled with tiny micro-caviar beads, which immediately gives it that luxury skincare feel.

It’s the kind of product that makes you want to slow down your routine and actually enjoy the application.

Texture & Feel on Skin

The texture is honestly beautiful. As you massage the product in, the capsules burst and release a lightweight, oily nourishment that transforms the gel into something much more comforting and cocooning.

It melts into the skin effortlessly and doesn’t feel greasy, just soft and nourishing.

Overnight Performance

What I really like about this hydrating overnight face mask is that it actually behaves like a proper overnight treatment. It doesn’t just disappear after application.

If I wake up in the night, I can still feel a soft layer of product on my skin, which I personally love because it feels like it’s still working. By morning, it has completely absorbed. There’s no residue left behind, just well-hydrated, comfortable skin.

Results: Morning Glow & Hydration

This is where the Beauty Pie Le Masque Micro-Caviar Overnight Moisture Mask really delivers. By morning, my skin looks calmer, more nourished and softly radiant. It’s not an overly shiny glow, just that healthy, rested look that’s exactly what you want from an overnight mask for glowing skin.

It’s particularly good when my skin is feeling a bit depleted or dehydrated, as it really helps restore comfort overnight.

Beauty Pie vs Dior: Is This a Dupe?

Beauty Pie Le Masque Micro-Caviar Overnight Moisture Mask vs Dior
Beauty Pie Le Masque Micro-Caviar Overnight Moisture Mask vs Dior

One of the reasons this product is getting so much attention is its similarity to Dior Prestige Le Micro-Caviar de Rose* which is £418.

Similarities:

  • Micro-capsule (caviar-style) technology
  • Transformative gel-to-oil texture
  • Focus on nourishment, glow and skin comfort
  • A distinctly luxury application experience

Key Differences:

  • Dior focuses heavily on rose actives and premium anti-ageing positioning
  • Beauty Pie delivers a more accessible, hydration-focused version
  • Price point is dramatically lower with Beauty Pie

When you look at the Beauty Pie Le Masque Micro-Caviar Overnight Moisture Mask alongside the Dior Prestige Le Micro-Caviar de Rose, what’s really interesting is how similar the base of the formulas actually is. Both are built around a really comforting hydration structure with things like glycerin, propanediol, caprylic/capric triglyceride, meadowfoam seed oil, shea butter and betaine. So in terms of that soft, cocooning overnight feel that leaves skin feeling cushioned and nourished by morning, they’re actually much closer than you might expect.

Where Dior really starts to pull away is in the more targeted skincare actives and the overall complexity of the formula. You’ve got ingredients like adenosine, a vitamin C derivative (ascorbyl glucoside), rose extract and other supporting actives that are all working a bit more specifically on things like radiance, smoothing and skin renewal.

The Beauty Pie version keeps things more focused on hydration, comfort and that sensorial micro-caviar texture, without quite the same level of active skincare layering. And I do think that’s where some of the price difference comes in. Dior is very much delivering a more treatment-led, highly engineered luxury skincare experience, whereas Beauty Pie is giving you a really beautiful, effective hydration and glow formula at a much more accessible price point.

How to Use Beauty Pie Le Masque Micro-Caviar Overnight Moisture Mask

  • Apply as the final step in your evening routine
  • Massage gently to break the capsules
  • Leave on overnight

For a tip: Use after an LED mask or active skincare routine to maximise results and wake up with glowing skin.

I actually love this over my Medik8 Crystal Retinal 6*. I apply my Retinal, leave for at least 10 minutes, and then follow without the mask before going to sleep.

FAQ: Beauty Pie Le Masque Micro-Caviar Overnight Moisture Mask

Is Beauty Pie Le Masque Micro-Caviar Overnight Moisture Mask worth it?

Yes, especially if you’re looking for a high-performance overnight mask without a luxury price tag.

Can I use this overnight mask every night?

You can, particularly if your skin is dry or dehydrated. Alternatively, use it a few times a week as a treatment.

Is this a dupe for Dior Prestige Micro-Caviar?

It’s not identical, but it offers a very similar texture, experience and result, making it a strong alternative.

Will it clog pores?

It’s nourishing but not overly heavy. If you’re oily or breakout-prone, use it a few times a week rather than nightly.

Can I use it instead of moisturiser?

Yes, this works as a treatment moisturiser or final step in your routine.

Overall Thoughts

This is one of those products that feels both effective and enjoyable to use, which is always a winning combination.

If you’re looking for a Beauty Pie overnight mask that delivers hydration, comfort and a visible glow by morning, this is a really strong option.

It’s become a go-to for nights when my skin needs a bit of extra care, and it’s one I keep reaching for.

8 Best Retinol Alternatives for Sensitive Skin, According to Dermatologists

0

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the most popular ingredients that dermatologists consider retinol alternatives?

Retinol might be the gold standard among skin-care products for smoothing texture, softening signs of aging, and helping clear blemishes, but dryness, peeling, and the whole adjustment phase can be a lot. That’s why dermatologists often point to gentler stand-ins, such as:

  • Bakuchiol: a plant-derived ingredient Dr. Vieira recommends for patients who want retinol-like benefits without the irritation. “Bakuchiol may have similar effects as retinoids on fine lines and collagen production but is generally much better tolerated on the skin,” he says, adding that while the research is still growing, it’s looking promising.
  • Niacinamide, azelaic acid, and peptides: While they don’t do everything retinol does, they can still target concerns like uneven tone, rough texture, blemishes, and visible signs of aging in a way that’s a lot easier for more skin types to handle.

Will I still get peeling or purging with retinol alternatives?

Short answer: usually not—or at least, not to the same extent. “This is one of the biggest benefits of going with a [retinol] alternative,” says Dr. Obayami. “Most patients will not experience the same level of peeling or purging that they would with retinol.” That largely comes down to side effects: Ingredients like bakuchiol, peptides, and vitamin C tend to be much more easygoing, so you’re less likely to deal with that flaky, in-between phase.

The one exception is exfoliating acids—like glycolic or lactic acid—where you might notice a little initial flaking as your skin adjusts. But even then, “it is typically much gentler than what retinol does,” she says. Still, it’s worth easing in slowly, especially if your skin runs sensitive.

How we test and review products

When Allure tests a product, our editors look at it from every angle in an effort to best serve you. We review ingredients, scrutinize brand claims, and, when necessary, examine peer-reviewed scientific and medical studies. In addition to testing each and every product that’s included in each and every review, we rely on experts who shape their fields, including dermatology, cosmetic chemistry, and medicine, to help us vet the ingredients and formulas.

For our list of the best retinol alternatives, we considered each product’s performance across five primary categories: product ingredients and efficacy, packaging, fragrance, texture, and product wear. Every product was determined to have excelled in each category by our editorial team, which is composed of in-house writers and editors as well as contributors—along with special consideration from board-certified dermatologists. To learn more information on our reporting and testing processes, read our complete reviews process and methodology page.

Our staff and testers

A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine; you may simply be browsing around for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.

After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the “best” for people over 50 if the only testers we’ve solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it’s never been tested on curls? We’re proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.

Is Olivia Rodrigo the cure to dating fatigue?

0

Take a glance at the title of Olivia Rodrigo’s new single “Drop Dead” and you might jump to some quick conclusions. This, you think, will be another angsty, pop-punk-coded banger – about heartbreak, stalking exes or the endlessly mortifying experience of having emotions that span anger, jealousy and infatuation. Maybe she’ll scream into the mic again, like the cathartic howl on “all-american bitch”. Even better, she might give us another cold one-liner like “Bleedin’ me dry like a goddamn vampire”. Get ready to rage, girlies! Rodrigo’s back in the driver’s seat.

Psych. There’s not an ounce of melancholy in “Drop Dead”, not even a whisper of resentment. Rodrigo’s new single is a proper, shout-it-from-the-rooftops, 2geva-4eva love song, so unashamedly wrapped up in the gooey bubble of young love that you almost feel her butterflies through the speaker. The first single from her upcoming album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love (12th June), Rodrigo throws caution to the wind and wears her heart on her sleeve. “You lookin’ like an angel on the walls of Versailles,” she sings over the chorus. “The most alive I’ve ever been / But kiss me and I might drop dead”. Not quite how we imagined the track’s titular phrase might be woven into the lyrics. And you know what? Thank God. Isn’t it about time we reminded ourselves of the glory of romance?

Over the past few years, a dating fatigue has swept over the nation. Not totally unwarranted, of course. As dating apps produce dwindling results, ghosting becomes the norm and situationships produce more headaches than heart flutters, being single and proud is the new way to navigate a landscape that offers little more than bad chat and dodgy dates. As Chanté Joseph explained in her new Glamour column, “With 45% of women aged 25 to 44 projected to be single and childless by 2030, we have an opportunity to create a new reality for ourselves; one that isn’t so beholden to being loved by someone.” In fact, even if you are in a relationship, it’s equally important to hold onto your identity outside of coupledom – you know, nurture friendships, find new hobbies, go skydiving if that’s your kind of thing. Finding love isn’t the be all and end all.
