How to Get Smooth Legs by Giving Yourself a Leg Facial

0

When it comes to skincare, we often focus on our face—but what about the rest of our body?
Your legs deserve just as much attention, especially in the colder months, and this “leg facial” that I gave myself, truly transformed the skin dryness in just 20 minutes.

Here’s my 3-step, 20-minute leg facial that completely improved my skin’s texture and brought it back to life. From bumpy and dry, to silky smooth legs. Voila.

Why My Legs Got Really Dry and Needed a Leg Facial

As an expert esthetician, I’m all about taking good care of my skin, whether on the face or the body.  However…recently I ran out of shaving cream and shaved my legs with water and ended up with a razor burn. Immediately after I got out of the shower, the skin stung on my legs and were red and irritated for hours after. Ouch.

Normally, I would cure it with a good body lotion for dry skin however, I do a workout for my body three times a week with these electrical pads for increased muscle stimulation and you can’t have body lotion the skin as the adhesive pads won’t stick. So ,I wasn’t applying much lotion and my leg showed it.

So what does an expert esthetician do best? Give a facial! I needed some serious help, so here’s what I did to get smooth legs — fast.

The Leg Facial Products

How to Get Smooth Legs with a Leg Facial – Step by Step

Step 1: Loosen up dry skin cells with a chemical exfoliant peeling pad

On dry skin, I used the DERMAdoctor KP Duty Body Peel Pads and wiped them over my legs. These powerful peel pads are specifically formulated to dissolve the rough, dry bumps and dead cells using a blend of glycolic, lactic, salicylic and lactobionic acids. It’s normal that I felt a tingling sensation. After all, the skin barrier was severely damaged and the pH of the pads range from 1.5-2.5. One pad was enough for both legs, but I worked quickly to avoid the pad from drying out.applying peel pad to leg

Step 2: Buff away dry skin with a “physical” exfoliator

Next, on dry skin, I rubbed the Back & Body Buffing Towel, over my legs. This towel is fairly abrasive (which I love) so it really polishes off all of those dry, damaged skin cells. You can really feel it working. I used this for about four minutes per leg to give them a great polishing.

I didn’t apply a lot of pressure since the towel’s texture is pretty powerful so go easy – especially for your first time giving your legs a facial. I could already see the skin start looking smoother before my very eyes. So transformative!using buffing towel on legusing buffing towel on leg

Step 3: Continue the exfoliation with a chemical exfoliating mask

Okay, so now I used a body lotion, the DERMAdoctor KP Duty Lotion. This is a body lotion, not an actual mask. Since I had already done two steps of exfoliation, I used it as a 10-minute mask.

This lotion is super powerful (pH ranges from 3.5-4.5) and is packed with glycolic acid and lactic acid (AHA’s) along with gluconolactone and lactobionic acids (PHA’s) to really dissolve dry, bumpy skin even deeper. I massaged it into my legs and left it on for 10 minutes. It definitely stung my legs, but I am used to the feeling of using acids and I know this is what I needed to resurface the rough, bumpy texture on my legs.

After 10 minutes, I hopped into the shower and rinsed it off. My legs were definitely feeling sensitized but this is a normal sensation when doing three steps of exfoliation. After the shower, I applied my body balm to condition the skin and my skin texture was truly transformed. The results were absolutely incredible! If you have dry skin on your body, I encourage you to try this. I’m obsessed.applying exfoliating creme to legapplying exfoliating creme to leg

A few final notes about my leg facial…

  • The results in the before and after photo were from just one treatment. I repeated this leg facial three days later to further resurface the skin so get even more improved results.
  • For maintenance, I recommend a leg facial twice a month but you can maintain with the Back & Body Buffing Towel and the DERMAdoctor KP Lotion (used as a leave-on body lotion) at least once a week.
  • Always listen to what your skin is telling you. I am well versed in what exfoliating acids can feel like but if it feels too much for your first time, then discontinue use.
  • Exfoliating acids can increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun so avoid any sun exposure for two days after doing this leg facial.

All in all, exfoliating acids can give you the glow from head-to-toe. As you can clearly see, the results were incredible! You can do this twice a month, especially during winter. Enjoy your dry legs becoming oh-so-touchable and smooth!

Note to self: I will be sure not to skip using shaving cream next time I shave to avoid having the skin on my body get this dry again!

Want to transform the texture on your face? As an expert esthetician, do this once a week to your face. Here’s how to give your skin a facial at-home

Sunflower Seed Oil – HollyBeth Organics Luxury Skin Care

Sunflower Seed Oil for the skin

Sunflower seed oil is so beneficial to the skin. A study on infants compared sunflower seed oil with olive oil and found that olive oil “significantly damages the skin barrier” and should be discouraged for dry skin treatment and infant massage. They also determined it reduces infection. It is rich in oleic acid, linoleic acid, carotenoids and  high in Vitamins A, D, and E. It is non comedogenic: it doesn’t clog the pores. Safe for infants, sunflower seed oil is a better skin barrier than the petroleum based products as it protects the skin and locks in moisture. The oil also contains folic acid that helps the body manufacture new cells. According to Dermatology Times, several studies indicate that the oil has anti-inflammatory properties. Thus making it perfect for acne prone skin by fighting the bacteria yet moisturizing at the same time. The National Eczema Association also encourages the use of sunflower seed oil for those suffering with outbreaks. What does this mean? That this oil penetrates the skins, absorbs quickly and reduces the fine lines. It is a powerful moisturizer and deeply nourishing for the skin. We have sunflower seed oil in our face and neck elixir and flourish calming perfume. See for your yourself the results of sunflower seed oil.

Sunflower Fun Facts

Sunflowers, native to the Americas, have been growing since 1000 B.C. The largest producer in the U.S. is South Dakota. With over 70 species to choose from their benefits are eclectic. In Japan, millions were planted to absorb toxins after the tsunami destroyed the nuclear power plant. In French the word for sunflower is tournesol: follow the sun. Birds love the seeds that make some of the best oil for cooking and for the skin.

*Apologies for the incoherent mess, my brain was going faster than I could type or even keep up with, so normally I’d delete this, but what the heck*

A LONG time ago they made they contour and highlight stix that were about the size of their lippie stix (kinda like Kim Ks were) while the formula wasn’t spot on, I wish they had worked on it and re released it..
Also, FIX YOUR CREME EYELINERS! they arrive dried up 50% of the time, snap and crumble, you can’t warm them up on the back of your hand because they WILL snap and all will fall out.. also please find a way to keep your lip liners themselves from falling out of the pencil, and the lids aren’t secure enough IMHO and have come off and liner popped out, causing a mess in a large makeup bag (just glad it was in one)

OKAY, ENOUGH NEGATIVE NANCY. I hope they keep focused on quality (not quantity) and expand instead of shrinking their cream product selection as a whole (I love their cream highlighters and back when all they sold were a few liquid lippies and 4 or 5 highlighters, that’s what I really fell in love with, Lunch Money, Hippo, and Monster was my first purchase along with Alyssa Liquid Lip I think), also keep putting out the cream shadows (can’t remember the exact name and can’t be bothered to walk down the hall to check, it’s 545am) ESPECIALLY mattes (idk if it still is the case, but there’s only been 1 matte shade of them for years, a mauve-ish color) I love the shimmery and glittery ones, but I’d love some mattes to lay down below them.
Also, I’d love to see a small focus on single shadows, perhaps releasing them in bundles that are cohesive so it’s still easy for someone newer or not so new, to go, ok these shades go with these, but I don’t want all 12, only these 5 and this champagne shade…

IDK clearly just a bunch of shower thoughts thrown into a jumbled reply…

Makeup palettes are a backstage staple and a travel essential, offering red carpet ready results in one neat package. Whether you crave a natural glow, statement glamour, or a quick on-the-go fix, the best palettes bring everything together. Think timeless shades, smart design, and formulas to rely on, when you find the right makeup palette you’ll have a go-to look in a hurry.

Why Makeup Palettes Are a Game-Changer

We all want something that simplifies our routines but never compromises on options. That’s where the do-it-all palette comes into play. From buttery eyeshadows and silky blushes to bronzers and highlighters, they’re cleverly designed to work for almost any occasion or any mood.

Makeup palettes bring together a curated collection of shades or products, for eyes, cheeks, or sometimes your whole face. Unlike single pans, palettes offer colour harmony and convenience, letting you mix, match, and layer to personalise your look. Whether it’s four shadows or an entire face kit, it’s artistry, neatly packaged.

As well as palettes that contain everything, you’ll always find palettes in makeup artists’ kits that cover a broad spectrum of choices for one area. Foundation palettes are a must so you can match any skin tone; eyeshadow palettes allow for greater versatility and blush and lip palettes allow us to be flexible with the looks we’re creating in a hurry. There’s no reason you can’t bring this MUA mentality to your own kit with a pro palette that offers a big choice of shades.

What Makes a Good Palette?

Not every palette is good enough to earn a place in your makeup bag or on your dressing table. Here’s what to look out for.

  • Edit of Shades: Look for harmonious colors. Clever palettes include both essentials (think: matte neutrals) and a few surprises (shimmers or bold pops for versatility).
  • Formula Quality: Pigment should glide on, blend out with a fingertip, and stay put. Avoid chalky, patchy textures.
  • Packaging: It has to be sturdy and sleek—bonus for a mirror or brush, especially if you’re on the move.
  • Multi-Use Potential: The very best palettes give you all-over options—blushes that suit the lids, bronzer as an eyeshadow, and highlighters for cheekbones or inner eyes.
  • Inclusive Tones: A thoughtful range that flatters many skin tones isn’t negotiable in a palette that claims to ‘do it all.’
  • Just For Fun: Some palettes aren’t for every day. Super flashy packaging, sparkling tones and design that sparks joy–there’s a place for fun in makeup too.

How To Get Out of a Style Rut

How To Get Out of a Style Rut

Are you struggling to figure out what to wear to work from home? Or maybe you’re an entrepreneur who works from home constantly, and you can’t seem to get out of a style rut. I’ve got some tips for you!

First, let’s talk about what I mean by a 2023-style rut. Before the pandemic, we used to go to work, dress up, and follow dress codes. Then, we went into lockdown, working from home, in our pajamas, all the time. We’re either still on Zoom working from home or hybrid, and we don’t know what to wear. That’s a different kind of rut. Then, there’s the type of rut you get into when you’re an entrepreneur who always works at home, pandemic or no pandemic. You find yourself in a rut because you don’t see people and don’t have to leave the house. People only see you from here up because you’re always on Zoom. That’s a particular type of modern-day rut.

So, how do you get out of it? I recommend starting with a seven-day selfie challenge. Take seven days of selfies and write down what you wore, how you felt, and how productive you were. Maybe instead of how you were perceived, you can focus on how you felt and how productive you were. Deep dive into this extra special selfie challenge, and you’ll see how much dressing well can affect your productivity and the opportunities that come your way.

Data shows that people who dress better make more money, and productivity increases when your style is better. However, it’s not always true for every single person. The unstylish may quote cases like Mark Zuckerberg, who wears a hoodie and does just fine. But, if you’ve identified that you’re in a style rut, something about it isn’t working. Look at the information, and let that motivate you to fix it.

Do something to leave the house that forces you to look better. Schedule something where you’ll have to look better or go to an excellent coffee shop, bring your laptop, and work from there. We have to do things that push us out of our comfort zone.

Finally, intentionally upgrade your style. It’s time to unlock the next level in your career, and it starts with giving yourself a full makeover. Grab my book, Style Therapy, and in 30 days, I’ll take you through the exact process I use to transform my clients.

Are you ready to get out of your style rut? Follow my tips, and you’ll be on your way to dressing better, feeling more productive, and unlocking the next level in your career.

How to Wash Your Natural Hair Without Breakage–Tips for Natural Beauty

0

I’ve learned the hard way that washing natural hair isn’t just about keeping it clean—it’s about protecting it. When I first began my natural hair journey, I used whatever shampoo I found on sale and scrubbed my scalp like I was polishing a floor. The result? Dry, brittle strands and tons of breakage.

If you’ve been there too, don’t worry—you can absolutely have clean, healthy, and breakage-free hair. The key is learning how to wash your natural hair the right way. In this post, I’ll share the steps and products that helped me transform my wash day into a nourishing self-care ritual that actually strengthens my hair.

Why Proper Washing Matters for Natural Hair

Healthy, thriving curls start at the scalp. When you wash your hair the right way, you’re not only removing dirt and buildup—you’re creating the foundation for growth and moisture retention.

1. Healthy Roots Mean Healthy Hair

I noticed that when my scalp is clean and balanced, my roots feel lighter and my curls have more bounce. Washing properly helps unclog pores, allowing your hair to grow freely.

2. Less Breakage, More Growth

When you handle your hair gently and use the right products, you keep your strands hydrated and strong. This prevents unnecessary breakage and helps you retain length over time.

3. A Clean Scalp Promotes Shine

Think of your scalp as the soil your hair grows from. If it’s full of buildup, your hair won’t flourish. But when you cleanse regularly, your scalp can breathe—and your curls will thank you with extra shine.

4. Easier Styling and Softer Curls

After a good wash, detangling and styling are so much easier. Clean, moisturized strands respond better to products and hold styles longer.

Choosing the Right Products for Your Hair Type

Not every shampoo or conditioner is made for natural hair. I used to think all “moisturizing” shampoos were the same—until I learned that ingredients matter more than marketing.

When choosing your products:

Go sulfate-free. Sulfates strip natural oils from your curls, leaving them dry and prone to breakage.

Look for moisturizing ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, aloe vera, or argan oil.

Use a deep conditioner weekly. It restores moisture and strengthens your strands after shampooing.

Don’t skip a leave-in conditioner. It helps detangle and keeps your hair hydrated throughout the week.

If your hair is thick and coily, heavier creams and butters might be your best friends. If it’s looser curls or wavy, go for lightweight formulas that won’t weigh you down.

🛒 Tip: I personally love rotating between a cleansing shampoo and a moisturizing one to keep my scalp fresh without drying my ends.

The Best Washing Techniques to Prevent Breakage

Here’s my tried-and-true wash day method that minimizes breakage and keeps my curls happy.

Step 1: Pre-Detangle Before Washing

Always detangle before your hair gets wet. Use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers to gently remove knots, starting from the ends and working upward.

Step 2: Use Lukewarm Water

Hot water can dry your hair and scalp. Stick to lukewarm water to lift dirt and open your cuticles without stripping moisture.

Step 3: Focus Shampoo on Your Scalp

Apply shampoo directly to your scalp and massage gently using your fingertips—not your nails. This removes buildup and stimulates circulation without causing friction or breakage.

Step 4: Condition with Care

When applying conditioner, concentrate on your ends—they’re the oldest and most fragile part of your hair. Let the conditioner sit for a few minutes before rinsing to allow moisture to penetrate deeply.

Step 5: Rinse with Cool Water

Cool water helps seal your hair cuticles, locking in moisture and enhancing shine.

Step 6: Gently Dry Your Hair

Avoid harsh towels. Instead, use a microfiber towel or an old cotton T-shirt to blot your hair dry. Pat gently—don’t rub.

How Often Should You Wash Your Natural Hair?

This depends on your hair type, your lifestyle, and even your environment. If your scalp gets oily or you work out regularly, washing once or twice a week might be perfect. But if your hair tends to stay dry, once a week could be enough.

Over-washing can strip your hair of essential oils, leading to dryness and breakage. Under-washing, on the other hand, can lead to buildup and scalp irritation. The secret is to listen to your hair—it will tell you what it needs.

Extra Tips for Healthy, Strong Hair

Keeping your natural hair strong goes beyond wash day. Here are a few habits that make a big difference:

Detangle with care. Always use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers, especially when your hair is wet and slippery with conditioner.

Deep condition weekly. Moisture is everything for natural hair.

Sleep on satin or silk. Cotton absorbs moisture and causes friction—switch to a satin pillowcase or bonnet.

Trim regularly. Removing split ends prevents breakage from traveling up the hair shaft.

Feed your hair from within. A balanced diet rich in protein, vitamins A, C, D, and E, plus biotin and iron, helps your hair stay strong and vibrant.

Conclusion: Consistency Is Everything

Washing your natural hair properly isn’t just a step—it’s a mindset. Once I learned to treat my wash day as an act of self-care instead of a chore, my hair changed completely.

If you stick with a gentle, consistent routine, your curls will reward you with strength, softness, and shine. Be patient, use products that truly nourish your texture, and remember—healthy hair starts with healthy habits.

Your natural hair deserves love, not stress. So take your time, pamper your strands, and watch them flourish!

FAQs

1. Should I wash my natural hair with shampoo or co-wash only?It depends on your scalp’s needs.

Co-washing (using conditioner only) can be great for moisture, but you still need shampoo occasionally to remove buildup.

2. Can I detangle my hair after shampooing?

Yes, but it’s gentler to detangle before shampooing or while applying conditioner to avoid breakage.

3. What’s the best water temperature for washing natural hair?

Use lukewarm water for cleansing and cool water for rinsing.

Daisy Kelliher Talks ‘Below Deck,’ Self-Care and Sleep

0

Well done Below Deck Sailing Yacht fan-favorite Daisy Kelliher is making waves with an exciting new project. She’s teaming up with friend and former charter guest Marc MacNamara, a globe-trotting director, to launch a brand-new podcast, Yacht Messdebuting this month with Studio 71. Equal parts scandalous and entertaining, Yacht Mess dives into the jaw-dropping, cringe-worthy and downright unbelievable moments from the worlds of yachting, travel and pop culture. From celebrity meltdowns to luxury-gone-wrong escapades, Kelliher and McNamara dish it all—unfiltered, hilarious and unapologetically messy.

Ahead, we chatted with Kelliher about what to expect from the new podcast. Dive in below.

Congrats on the podcast. Can you share how that came about and how you went about getting it off the ground?

“Basically, a while ago now, I had put a Q&A on Instagram, and someone had asked me about doing podcasting. I was like, ‘Yes, this is definitely a space I wanted to explore,’ and a previous charter guest reached out to me. He’d seen it and was like, ‘I want to do a podcast with you,’ and he pitched the concept to me. That was honestly quite a while ago. God, I can’t even remember how long ago, but over the last six months, we’ve been piecing it together and getting the launch date recording, finalizing the concept. We’re excited for everyone to join in on the journey with us.”

How will the flow go? Are you a big prepper, or will you wing it?

“Mark is definitely the prepper. I am definitely the winger, which is great because we work great as a team in that sense. Mark is really the brains behind the concept, what the per-episode cost is going to be, and what that entails. It’s going to be lighthearted. There’s going to be a lot of micro games that we’re going to play and then discuss. It could be about anything—like pop culture, our personal lives, Below Deckyachting. No space is, should I say, safe. But, yes, he gives me stuff to prep on, but it’s definitely more fun when I go in there not knowing anything—it makes it more enjoyable and full of surprises for me and for the listeners.”

When I watch the show, I always wonder how you sleep, do your skin care or have any sort of alone time. Do you have any time for self-care on charter?

“I am crazy about my sleep! I have been since I was young, and right through my yachting career. If I don’t sleep, other people get hungry and things like that for exercise. For me, sleep is so important, so I just grab naps wherever I can. I’m a big early-to-bed person. When other people have a night off, they might be watching movies or having a beer with each other. I’m like, ‘I’m going to go to bed. I’m just going to go rest.’ That’s my main self-care.

Obviously, there are other things I like to do; I might sneak off and get my nails done or a massage. Massages are a big one! I love a cheeky massage. Yes, there are different things like that. Everyone has their vice, whether it be going for a run, their skin care, but for me, sleeping is first…massages would be a close second.”

You’re very diligent about your sunscreen. What are you using right now?

“I have gotten so good about it! But let’s say I’ve learned…and I’m still trying to reverse the damage I’ve done, which has proven quite difficult. I’ve been using different ones. I was just away in Malaga, and I’m actually trying the new Sol De Janeiro, the SPF 50. I really like it because it is an oil, but it dries very, very quickly. For my face, one that I’m absolutely obsessed with at the moment is a Korean brand, Beauty of Joseon. It’s so lightweight. I don’t really like the feeling of anything on my face. They’re the two ones that I’ve been using at the moment.”
