The Benefits of Peptides in Skincare

0

1. Combatting Wrinkles and Fine Lines with Peptides

As we age, our natural production of essential proteins such as collagen, elastin, and keratin decreases, leading to the formation of wrinkles and fine lines. Peptides encourage the skin to rebuild and repair itself, which provides your skin fullness and preserves its youthful appearance. With anti-aging properties, peptides provide noticeable results in the fight against wrinkles and fine lines, much like the benefits of squalane in skincare.

Our KateCeuticals™ Total Repair Cream is one peptide-infused product that, when used alone or with a serum morning and evening, leaves your skin nourished, refreshed, and firmer.

2. Hydration Boost: The Role of Peptides

Beyond combating signs of aging, peptides also play a crucial role in maintaining skin hydration. Loss in natural collagen production causes skin dehydration and transepidermal water loss. However, Adding peptides to your skincare routine locks in moisture from your other skincare ingredients. Peptides act as moisture magnets, helping to retain essential moisture for a plumper and more radiant complexion when paired with vitamin C.

Using a peptide-rich cream like our Peptide K8® Power Cream doesn’t just feature hydrating ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid to replenish thirsty skin. Its advanced moisture complex helps keep skin more evenly balanced with humectants and conditioners while peptides work to diminish the visible depth and density of wrinkles while firming skin.

3. Peptides as a Remedy for Redness and Irritation

When applied topically, peptides signal the skin to prioritize the mending of its protective barrier. As a result, they aid in fortifying the skin’s natural defenses, reducing redness, and alleviating irritation. Introducing peptides to your regimen is a great way to calm your skin cells and even your skin tone, relieving your complexion of visible redness. This is especially good news for people looking for sensitive skin products who also want an anti-aging skin care routine.

Our Kate Somerville DeliKate™ Recovery Cream is a breakthrough clinical moisturizer with a peptide complex and ceramides that work together to relieve visible redness and irritation while restoring the skin barrier.

4. Restoring Firmness and Elasticity Through Peptides

When collagen fibers break down, peptides signal our skin to make more. As we age, collagen production naturally decreases, resulting in wrinkles, dehydration, and weakened skin elasticity. Think of it as the ultimate win-win. Peptides work to firm skin from the outside in and signal for your skin to firm it from the inside out.

Our KateCeuticals™ Collection is a clinical age repair skin care system chock full of powerful peptides that takes a comprehensive approach to reversing the visible signs of aging.

5. Refining Skin Texture with Peptide-Rich Formulas

Peptides are versatile in their approach to enhancing skin texture. Their ability to boost collagen production not only increases skin firmness but also contributes to a smoother complexion for both dry skin and oily skin. Collagen, known for its role in maintaining skin’s structural integrity, plays a pivotal part in refining skin texture. Peptides are your one-way ticket to skin revitalization, as they improve your skin’s firmness, smoothness, and evenness.

Transform your skin’s texture and replenish your pores with our ExfoliKate™ Collection, specifically designed for skincare targeting texture and pores. Experience a youthful glow and a visible difference in your skin’s smoothness, as our products work meticulously to enhance your skin’s overall appearance and health.

Peptides are the unsung heroes in the ever-expanding world of skincare, offering a multitude of benefits that can help you achieve and maintain youthful, healthy-looking skin. By incorporating peptides into your daily regimen, you’re taking a proactive step toward maintaining and enhancing your skin’s health and appearance. Because after all, we know that healthy skin requires daily attention!

Remember, when using products rich in peptides, most peptides are safe to use twice daily. However, we recommend opting for a product that can be left on your skin all day long so that the peptides have time to soak into the skin.

Make your myriad of skincare choices easier by choosing Kate Somerville products with peptides, a vital ingredient for an encompassing boost in skin health. Achieving and maintaining healthy skin requires consistent care and attention, and peptides are here to help you on that journey.

Stick vs Paste: What Type of Natural Deodorant Is Right for You?

0

style=”;”
/>

Way back in 2015, when Woohoo Body was just a wee armpit-saving start-up, we launched our very first product: a natural deodorant paste. It was buttery, effective, award-winning (Urban lovers, we see you), and quickly became a cult fave.

Then we heard from a different kind of pit person. One who said, “I love Woohoo, but I don’t want to finger-swipe my deodorant, thanks.”

So, we whipped up our natural deodorant sticks. Same stink-busting mission. Same BO-busting active ingredients. But different formulas, different textures and a different way to get fresh.

And today we’re answering one of our most commonly asked questions: Deodorant vs Paste – which one is right for me?

Are the sticks and pastes the same formula in different packaging?

Nope! Our pastes and sticks may seem like twins, but they’re more like quirky siblings with shared values and wildly different personalities.

Our deodorant pastes contain more Shea butter than the sticks. This gives the paste a buttery texture that melts easily when rubbed between your fingertips to apply like a moisturiser.

On the other hand, our sticks have a firmer, waxier texture and contain slightly more deodorising ingredients. The reason for the higher amount of active ingredients (like bicarb soda or magnesium) is that we designed the sticks for you to use a bit less product than the pastes.

Here’s what makes each of our natural deodorants unique:

💚 Pastes: The OG Woohoo Heroes

Packaged in aluminium tins and loaded with shea buttery goodness, our deodorant pastes are:

  • Creamy, soft and moisturiser-like
  • Easy to apply by hand (or should we say fingertip to pit!)
  • A pea-sized amount under each armpit is all you need for max BO-busting goodness
  • Now smoother than ever thanks to Polyglyceryl-3 Tetrastearatewhich helps prevent those occasional lumps caused by temperature swings
  • Available in regular, sensitive and extra-strength options

Woohoo Natural Deodorant Family Pack (6 x Pastes)

💚 Sticks: No-Mess, No-Stress Freshness

Packaged in push-up compostable cardboard tubes, our sticks are:

  • Slightly firmer, drier and waxier by design (but still incredibly smooth)
  • Perfect if you’d rather not touch your pits (we get it)
  • Simply swipe a couple of times under your arms and away you go
  • Now glides on smoother thanks to new jojoba esters & rice bran wax
  • Easier to push up than ever — no more stuck sticks! Especially with our Refillable Deodorant Cases

Woohoo Natural Deodorant Family Pack (6 x Sticks)

SHOP NOW

Plus, both our natural deodorant sticks AND pastes have been upgraded with boosted  ultra-fine magnesium sourced from the sea, zinc ricinoleate and bamboo powder for even more powerful stink protection + absorbency.

So which one is for you?

Honestly? It’s all about personal preference.

If you love that hands-on feel, our pastes gives you soft, spreadable coverage with a skincare vibe. Bonus: it gets you up close and personal with your lymph nodes and we all know a good lymph massage does wonders for the body.

If you prefer a no-fuss swipe-and-go routine, the sticks are your go-to. No hands, no hassle. Same stellar performance.

Strength Guide (Updated!)

Our natural deodorants now fall into these categories:

A note on our packaging

Our stick packaging are the same plastic-free cardboard tubes. But our paste tins are going a little old-school, back to printed labels rather than fancy custom tins.

Why? Because custom tins require 10,000 MOQ (minimum order quantity!) and our budget is busy making your better formulas. Don’t worry though, they’re still as planet-friendly as possible!

Our deodorant pastes and sticks are still:

  • 100% natural
  • 100% effective
  • 100% pit-loving and plastic-free

They just got even better.

So whether you’re a swipe-and-go kinda human or a finger-in-the-tin ritualist, we’ve got you and your glorious pits covered.

Graphic Blue Liner Look on Blue Green Eyes

Graphic Blue Liner Look for Blue Green Eyes

Hello beautiful people! Today I’m sharing my graphic blue liner look with you. I’ve been obsessing over deep navy blue matte paired with multichromes so yesterday I put together a graphic blue eyeliner look to live out that fantasy. I wore this look out to brunch with friends yesterday. I’m grateful to be able to spend quality time with chosen friends and family. You never know what tomorrow will bring, so make the most of the time you have.

Blue Focus

The two main products needed for this look are a navy matte eyeliner and an iridescent multichrome. I used Urban Decay Sabbath 24/7 eyeliner pencil for my deep navy blue matte, along with Bella Beaute Bar Fairie Tears for my iridescent pink blue purple multichrome.

Blend Bunny The Deep, a deep navy blue matte eyeshadow, and Aromaleigh Astarion, a vivid turquoise blue shimmer, were also incorporated. Astarion gives the best pop of turquoise blue at the inner lower lid. The Deep intensifies the graphic blue liner look. And I finished it off with Urban Decay LSD 24/7 eyeliner pencil on the lower waterline for sparkle.

Makeup Products

Below is a list of every makeup product I used to create my look. I don’t have codes with very many brands, but I do list my codes with the ones below in case you want to use them. You can always check my Affiliates Code page to see if I have a code with a specific brand. I always strive to use cruelty-free products whenever possible, but remember that there is no ethical consumption under capitalism, so if I can’t find a cruelty-free option I will use a non-cruelty-free one. I’m grateful that there are so many cruelty-free and vegan options available these days.

Late last year I found the Gym People leggings. I was looking for thicker leggings that were squat proof that came in a hue similar to my hair color and I found Fuchsia high waisted yoga pants from the Gym People fit my needs. I think they’re cute enough to wear outside of  yoga and paired them with one of my favorite Black Milk tops, the Romancer 2. I love the swirly pieces of fabric on the sides of this tunic top.

The black jade necklace is a gift from Dave. He purchased it for me when we were in New Zealand and I absolutely love the geometric design and the thicker chain. It’s a unique piece.

The Gym People High Waisted Yoga Pants Review

The Gym People Fuchsia High Waisted Yoga PantsThe Gym People Fuchsia High Waisted Yoga Pants

I wanted to share my The Gym People Thick High Waisted Yoga Pants review with you. I’m a petite person, standing just under 5’4″, so leggings always have extra length for me. I’ve purchased the Gym People Thick High Waisted Yoga Pants with pockets in several colors including fuchsia to match my hair (4 pair), bright purple, black leopard, blue, and black.

Most of the ones I own are made from 88% polyamide and 12% spandex, with the Bright Purple pair being slightly different at 80% polyamide and 20% spandex.

I wear these high waisted leggings for yoga, walking, workouts, errands, and lounging. The material feels smooth and comfortable against the skin. The side pockets fit my iPhone 15 Pro Max with no issue, which I love. I never use the tiny waistband pocket, but it’s there if you need it.

For care, I wash the Gym People high waisted yoga pants in cold water on a delicate cycle or hand wash with Soak detergent. I always hang them to dry. Avoiding the dryer really helps preserve the fabric. Heat breaks down spandex over time, so air drying is key. I’ve owned Lululemon leggings in the past, but in my opinion, these are softer, thicker, and feel like better quality overall. Lulus cost over $100 and not every pair have side pockets. These are currently $22.99 and perform better across the board.

My only wish is that they offered more bright colors, like neon green or neon turquoise blue. Otherwise, the shade selection is solid. If you’re looking for new leggings or yoga pants, I highly recommend checking out the Gym People.

Final Thoughts

Who says you can’t wear blue if you have blue green eyes? Certainly not me! Don’t be afraid to experiment with bold color. If you don’t want to try a bold hue as an eyeshadow on the lid, a graphic liner is great choice.

I adore bold blues, especially with my skin tone. What bold color do you want to try?

Sol De Janeiro Bum Bum Cream Has 30% Off – Here, My Review

0

Every year, when the cold weather finally begins to wear and spring really starts to bloom, two things happen to me: My family in the Philippines implores us to come and visit them (our spring is their summertime), and I dust off my Brazilian Bum Bum body cream. While it’s impossible for me to spontaneously book a two-week trip to the Philippines, I can reach for my big yellow tub o’ cream and feel like summer is truly within reach.

I’ve always had a soft spot for tropical ingredients you might not find in popular beauty products. When I was a kid, my mum rubbed virgin coconut oil into my hair, massaged papaya soap into my skin, and slathered seaweed masks onto my face. She’d swear that these ingredients were the real secret to beauty products that worked — not the kind you’d find at your local pharmacy.

It should come as no surprise, then, that I’ve been a loyal Sol de Janeiro customer for a few years now. I was first introduced to the brand by its Coco Cabana Cream (imagine coconut lotion teaming up with water cream) and eventually made my way to its marquee product, the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream.

Featured in this article:

If you can’t tell by the name, the product (pronounced “boom boom,” in case you were wondering) is advertised as your butt’s best friend. In addition to being a great body lotion, it’s supposed to firm and tighten areas that may have cellulite or dimples and give an all-around toned appearance to your skin. I was intrigued by this, mainly because my butt is not, in fact, soft like a baby’s bottom — that is until I met this cream.

First, let’s get one thing straight: This is not your normal body butter. When you apply it, like an ice lolly on a hot summer sidewalk, it melts into your skin and leaves a dewy, velvety finish. You know those body butters that make you afraid to sit down after applying, for fear of leaving a greasy stain on your leather couch? Not the Bum Bum Cream. This leaves you feeling perfectly moisturised without any residue for hours on end. Plus, there’s a very subtle sheen to the formula — so you feel like silk and look like it too.

When you first open it, you’re hit with an intense and pleasant smell. People describe this cream as “vacation in a tub” and they’re not wrong — it smells like a vanilla bean ordered a margarita and then lit some palo santo. That’s because the lotion is infused with all kinds of delicious ingredients pulled right out of a Rio de Janeiro travel brochure. It’s blended with antioxidants from Amazonian fruit, coconut oil, and (the star ingredients) cupuaçu butter and guarana. The butter is full of fatty acids to lock in moisture, while the guarana is loaded with caffeine — making it the Bum Bum Cream’s main firming agent. You’re supposed to apply it in small, circular motions over areas you want to tighten up, like your bum, or your thighs, arms, and anywhere else.

Many reviewers love the cream for its firming qualities alone, and while I can’t say that it’s wiped away any skin dimples, that’s not why I keep coming back. I just love how hydrated it leaves me feeling (without aggravating my sensitive, eczema-laden skin). The only other lotion that has a similar smoothing effect is Augustinus Bader’s The Body Cream, which costs a cool £155. Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream on the other hand is less than £40 in the Black Friday beauty deals event. And little goes such a long way, it lasts you forever. So, if you don’t want to break the bank for an allover cream, buy the Bum Bum. Trust me.

TA’COY has an inspiring talk with London Summers about his beginnings, his  creative process, and the vision behind the hairstyles that elevates the signature  soft-glam of R&B star Tiffany Evans to delivering bold, unforgettable looks for  reality TV stars Natalie Nunn and Masika Kalysha.

HH: Ta’Coy, It’s a pleasure to connect with you! You’ve styled some of the most recognizable women in entertainment from R&B songstress Tiffany Evans to reality TV stars Natalie Nunn and Masika Kalysha. From shower to  pantyhose to lipstick then it was time for the hair and it just brought it all together. I remember cutting my cousin dolls hair. One time I went with an aunt to the salon and the hairstylist  needed me to hold the ponytail while he wrapped it around the hair. From that moment on I  haven’t put a comb down.

HH: Take us back to your roots literally and figuratively. Where are you from, and how did your hometown shape your creativity and approach to styling Black hair?

HH: When working with bold personalities like Natalie Nunn and Masika Kalysha, what’s your process for balancing their individuality with trends that push boundaries? Any unforgettable moments from set or glam sessions?

Tacoy: Stay in the moment with the client/artist, when Nicki Minaj put Natalie Nunn in a song. I  can remember how Natalie was so excited and Grateful. It was such a moment for the C.E.O of  Baddies it was important making sure the hair matches the clothes & styling her in her natural  baddie beauty. She doesn’t require much. One of my most unforgettable moments is working  on Mya with my mentor Joe Exclusive. The way his iconic mind thinks has shaped the culture. I  never fan out! I show up to do my job. I remember after we were done on set. I’m like “TaCoy  that was Mya. Somebody pinch me!”

HH: The industry is filled with amazing talent, but if you could choose any celebrity past or present to style next, who would it be and why?

Tacoy: Whitney Houston she was always a moment that needed that glam moment to me.

Pro Tips for Your Best Makeup Look Yet

0

You can’t tell us otherwise: the holiday season is officially here. Whether your calendar is packed with parties or you’re headed home to spend time with family, now’s the perfect moment to get your holiday looks in order.

Instagram and Pinterest offer no shortage of ideas, but a little expert guidance goes a long way. To narrow the field, we tapped celebrity makeup artist Kelli Anne Sewell. Known for working with stars such as Kelsea Ballerini and Alix Earle, Sewell has mastered soft yet incredibly fabulous makeup—the ideal formula for holiday glam. Through her app, Makeup By Kelli Anne, she shares pro techniques for achieving polished makeup at home, and now she’s giving us a quick guide to flawless holiday beauty.

Prep Before You Play

Skin care is at the heart of all of Sewell’s makeup looks. “I always say every great makeup look starts with good skin prep,” she says. However, to achieve the dewy radiance and subtle sheen for which Sewell is known, a few extra steps are required. “Winter weather can amplify dryness, so your skin needs some extra love underneath your makeup.”

Her pro tip: layer hydrating and moisturizing products. “I like to use formulas that have a thicker consistency and hydrating elements. For winter skin prep, I start with Rhode Glazing Milk to add a pearly glow to your base, then layer Dieux Instant Angel on top. Eye cream is also essential and a lip mask will help prevent chapped skin and dryness,” she says.

Lean Into Festive Trends

The holidays only come once a year, so why not lean into festive makeup? Glitter, bold blush, bronze and shimmer are all on the table and can instantly elevate your look. “If you’re working with glitter, a shimmery highlighter like Fenty’s Diamond Bomb can be used all over the face, including the eyes and lip if you want to,” she says.

For those who prefer a more understated approach to holiday glam, Sewell recommends leaning into top seasonal blush trends such as warm and toasty browns: Summer Friday’s Toasted Terracotta and Rhode’s Tan Lines are two of her favorites for achieving the look. She’s even got a tip for blending these two trends to get the best of both worlds. “One of my key eye products is a bronze shimmery eyeliner, specifically Victoria Beckham’s, which comes in bronzed cinnamon,” she says. “It’s highly pigmented with just a touch of glitter and looks great applied in the waterline. It adds an extra luminosity to your eye makeup without going overboard.”

Keep Things in Balance

Balance is essential if you want your makeup to stand out. Bold lips and smouldering eyeshadow always look best when the skin is kept fresh and clean. Put simply: pick a focal point. “If your eyes or lips draw attention, your skin should complement that,” she says, noting that if you’re going for the clean look, a completely matte base isn’t the best move. She suggests using products that provide coverage with a more radiant finish, complemented by hydrating base formulas.

Don’t Forget to Set

Makeup longevity is another area Sewell has mastered; she even dedicates full tutorials to it on her app. The gist: every cream product needs to be set, but in light layers to prevent things from looking cakey. “The final step, and you don’t want to forget it, is locking it all in with a good setting spray like Charlotte Tilbury’s Airbrush Setting Spray,” she says.

Your Food Order Matters. Here’s How to Do It Right.

0

Beginning with fiber also means you’ll likely eat more of it than you would otherwise—an important point, since around 95% of Americans are actually deficient in this critical carb. Because of this, “it helps with meeting the daily recommendation for fiber intake, which many of us tend to fall short of,” Holley says.

Eating more fiber can additionally make it easier to maintain a healthy weight. “Higher-fiber foods tend to be lower in calories,” Holley explains (and more filling to boot)—so when you load up on them early on, you’re likely to eat less of the higher-calorie foods coming down the line, making for a lower total calorie intake.

Next, turn to protein and healthy fats.

Protein is plentiful in meat, poultry, eggs, dairy, and seafood (as well as a few special plant-based items like legumes and soy products), while healthy fats can be found in nuts, seeds, avocados, vegetable oil, and fatty fish like salmon and mackerel. Both “are effective at stimulating the release of GLP-1, a hormone that helps to regulate appetite and blood sugar” (and which you’ve probably already encountered if you’re at all tuned into the Ozempic discourse), Holley says. Subsequently, that GLP-1 surge delays something called gastric emptying—“how quickly food moves from stomach to intestine,” according to Inchauspé. In practice, this effectively reduces the rate at which food is digested and, in turn, the rate at which glucose hits your bloodstream, resulting in a more gradual rise (seeing a pattern here?).

Finally, finish with carbs.

Once you’ve polished off everything else, it’s (finally!) time for carbs like rice, bread, and pasta, as well as those starchy veggies we mentioned above. By the time you reach this portion of the meal, there are “all these buffers in place to reduce the speed at which they arrive into the bloodstream. And that’s what we want,” Inchauspé says. Using chocolate cake as an example, she explains, “we’ll get all the joy from it, just as much as we did before, but on the inside, in terms of what happens in our intestine, things will be slowed down significantly.” Ta-da—“a smaller glucose spike and fewer consequences of the glucose spike on brain and body.”

The Difference Between Moisturizer and Serum

0

A skincare routine is essential for maintaining skin health, enhancing appearance, and preventing future issues.

Within this regimen, moisturizers and serums are cornerstone products, each playing a unique role in achieving healthy, clear, and beautiful skin.

However, despite their shared goal of improving skin health, they differ significantly in formulation, purpose, texture, and how they should be incorporated into a skincare routine.

Therefore, in this article, I will delve deeper into these details and help you understand the differences between moisturizers and serums and how to use each product to achieve optimal skin health.

NB: I can show you how to never have acne again. If you have acne and want it goneread this message.

What is a Serum?

Serums are lightweight, highly concentrated formulations designed to deliver potent active ingredients deeper into the skin and initiate a biochemical reaction that will target specific skin concerns.

They are made up of small molecules that easily penetrate the outermost layers, offering solutions for skin concerns such as dryness, acne, lines and wrinkles, texture, or hyperpigmentation.

Serums are typically water-based, though oil-based options exist, catering to different skin types and needs.

What is a Moisturizer?

Moisturizers, on the other hand, are thicker, creamier formulations that aim to slow down transepidermal moisture loss by forming an occlusive barrier on the skin’s surface.

This barrier locks in moisture from the deeper layers of the skin and prevents it from evaporating while protecting the skin from environmental aggressors such as pollution and dry air.

These products are made with a blend of humectants, emollients, and occlusives and can have a thicker or lighter texture to suit various skin types and needs.

Ingredients: The Key Differentiators

Serum Ingredients

Serums are packed with active ingredients meant to solve specific skin issues.

Common ingredients in serums include:

Vitamin C: An antioxidant that protects the skin from free radicals in the environment and reverses cellular damage that leads to symptoms such as dullness, uneven skin tone, and pigmentary abnormalities.

Hyaluronic Acid is a humectant that brings moisture from the environment or the deeper layers of the skin to the surface, keeping the top layer of the epidermis hydrated, soft, and plump.

Niacinamide: An anti-inflammatory and antioxidant ingredient that helps improve the skin barrier’s function, resulting in smoother, more even-toned skin.

Retinol: A derivative of vitamin A that promotes cellular turnover and tackles skin concerns such as acne, wrinkles, texture, and pigmentary abnormalities.

Moisturizer Ingredients

Moisturizers contain ingredients that mainly aim to hydrate and protect the skin barrier.

These include:

Humectants like glycerin and hyaluronic acid, which draw water into the skin.

Emollients such as squalane, shea butter, and jojoba oil to smooth and soften the skin by filling in gaps between skin cells.

Occlusives like petrolatum and beeswax, which create a physical barrier to prevent moisture loss.

Texture and Consistency: A Tactile Difference

Comparison illustration depicting the texture and consistency variances between a serum and a moisturizer, illustrating their different formulations and application methods for effective skincare routines.

Serum Texture

Serums typically have a light texture, ranging from watery to gel-like, and are quickly absorbed into the skin, making them suitable for layering under other skincare products.

Due to their water-based formulation, some serums may feel slightly tacky or sticky upon application, but this feeling usually dissipates once the product is fully absorbed.

Moisturizer Texture

Moisturizers come in various consistencies, from light lotions to thick creams.

They are designed to be applied over serums and other treatments to lock in moisture and create a protective barrier on the skin’s surface.

The texture depends on the moisturizer’s formulation and the amount of water, oil, and other ingredients, making them versatile for different skin types and concerns.

The Effects on Skin

Immediate Effects

Serums: Due to the high concentration of active ingredients, serums have a more immediate effect on the skin, delivering quick and noticeable results, such as reduced acne, brighter skin tone, improved appearance of lines and wrinkles, and refined texture.

Moisturizers: Upon application, moisturizers provide an immediate hydrating effect, leaving the skin feeling soft, supple, and protected. Additionally, while moisturizers also contain active ingredients, they are not as concentrated as serums, so their effects may take slightly longer to become visible.

Long-Term Benefits

Serums: With regular use, serums can significantly improve the skin’s health and appearance, addressing concerns like lines, wrinkles, dark spots, acne, and overall skin texture.

Moisturizers: Continuous use helps maintain the skin’s hydration levels, prevents transepidermal water loss, and supports the skin’s barrier function, keeping it healthy and resilient against environmental stressors and pathogens that can exacerbate or trigger inflammatory skin conditions.

How to Use a Moisturizer and Serum Together?

A guide that demonstrates the proper application technique for using moisturizer and serum together in a skincare regimen, showcasing the correct order and method for maximizing the benefits of both products.

Application Order

Serums should be applied after cleansing and toning but before moisturizing.

Their thin consistency allows them to penetrate deeply into the skin, where their active ingredients can be most effective.

Moisturizers are applied after serums to lock in the active ingredients from the previous product and ensure the skin remains hydrated and protected.

Application Frequency

Depending on their ingredients, both serums and moisturizers can be used daily.

Serums should be applied once or twice a day depending on the product’s potency and the skin’s tolerance.

For example, hydrating serums can be applied twice a day, while active serums containing ingredients such as exfoliating acids or retinoids should only be applied once a day (depending on the skin’s tolerance) as part of a nighttime skincare routine.

On the other hand, moisturizers should be used twice a day, in the morning and evening, to maintain optimal hydration levels and barrier health.

Choosing the Right Products for Your Skin

The selection of serums and moisturizers should be based on your skin type, concerns, and the results you hope to achieve.

Dry Skin

For individuals with dry skin, selecting a serum rich in hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and PCA is crucial, as these components help attract water into the skin and retain moisture.

On the other hand, avoid serums with high concentrations of alcohol or fragrances, as these can strip the skin and increase dryness and discomfort.

When choosing a moisturizer, those with dry skin should look for products rich in emollients and occlusives, such as shea butter, ceramides, and petrolatum, to nourish the skin and lock in moisture.

Avoid moisturizers with a high content of drying alcohols or those that are too lightweight, as they may not provide sufficient hydration or protection for dry skin.

Oily Skin

For individuals with oily skin, it’s beneficial to seek out serums that contain active ingredients such as glycolic acid or niacinamide.

These can regulate oil production, refine enlarged pores, and reduce shine.

On the other hand, oily skin should avoid oil-based serums or heavy oils, which can exacerbate oiliness and contribute to breakouts.

When selecting a moisturizer, those with oily skin should opt for lightweight, water-based formulas, often labeled as “non-comedogenic,” to ensure they won’t clog pores.

On the other hand, avoid heavy, occlusive moisturizers with ingredients like petrolatum or coconut oil, as these can be too rich and worsen oily skin concerns.

Sensitive Skin

For individuals with sensitive skin, it’s important to choose serums that contain calming and soothing ingredients, such as aloe vera, chamomile, panthenol, Centella Asiatica, etc., which are efficient at targeting inflammation and redness.

On the other hand, avoid serums with harsh exfoliants, high concentrations of vitamin C, or synthetic fragrances, as these can irritate sensitive skin, trigger adverse reactions, and even cause permanent skin conditions such as rosacea and dermatitis.

When selecting a moisturizer, those with sensitive skin should look for fragrance-free products that contain barrier-reinforcing ingredients, like ceramides and squalane, to nourish and protect the skin and reduce inflammatory reactions caused by environmental pathogens.

On the other hand, moisturizers with artificial colors, fragrances, or preservatives should be avoided, as these can exacerbate sensitivity and irritation.

Aging Skin

For individuals with aging skin, it’s advisable to select serums rich in antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E, and retinoids, which are known for their powerful anti-aging properties.

These ingredients help stimulate collagen production, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and improve overall skin tone and texture.

However, it’s important to avoid serums with harsh ingredients like high concentrations of alcohol or fragrances, which can irritate and dry out the skin.

When choosing a moisturizer, those with aging skin should look for products that contain hydrating and repairing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, peptides and ceramides to help restore the skin’s moisture barrier and improve its elasticity.

Avoid moisturizers that are too lightweight and do not provide adequate hydration or nourishment, as aging skin tends to be more prone to dryness.

Beauty product sales reached record levels in the United States during the first nine months of the year, according to Circana.

From January to September 2025, sales in the prestige channel increased by 4% to reach $24.1 billion. The number of units sold also increased by 4% compared to the same period of 2024. In mass market, sales increased by 5% to reach $54.5 billion. The increase in volume is limited to 2%.

« The beauty industry had an exceptional third quarter and, in fact, its growth rate accelerated compared to the last three quarters of 2025, which bodes well for the holiday season “, underlines Larissa Jensen, Global Beauty Industry Advisor chez Circana. « Beauty is well-positioned to sparkle this holiday season, with a third of consumers planning to gift beauty products for the occasion – a significant increase on last year “, she added.

Mainstream fragrances outperform all other categories

THE perfume sales prestige rose 6% to $5.9 billion over the period. The most concentrated fragrances, mainly eau de parfum and perfumes, continue to generate the strongest growth.

Consumers continue to favor both ends of the price spectrum: sales of luxury perfumes recorded double-digit growth, while travel formats grew 12% in volume, while discovery sets jumped 41%.

In the mass market, fragrance is the fastest growing category, up 17% in value and double-digit growth in volume.

Lips dominate the makeup market

In the prestige circuit, the makeup generated $7.9 billion in sales over the first nine months (January-September), an increase of 3% compared to the previous year. The volumes sold are also increasing.

According to Circana, a particularly dynamic third quarter resulted in positive results for all segments (eyes, complexion, lips, nails and sets). Lip products continue to outperform other segments, including in the mass market, while premium eye makeup products have returned to growth after a decline in 2024.

The masstige draws growth from care

Skincare sales reached $6.7 billion in the prestige channel, representing a moderate increase of 1% year-on-year. This is the only category where sales are growing faster in volume than in value.

THE facial carethe largest segment, experienced slight growth, mainly thanks to e-commerce. Body care and sun care products are those whose sales have grown the fastest, both in stores and online, even if growth has been stronger on the internet.

Skincare sales were also good in the mass market, with facial serums and moisturizers among the fastest growing segments.

With growth of 14% over the first nine months of the year, “masstige” brands continue to outperform both mass-market and prestige brands.

The capillary progresses in all circuits

The segment of hair care prestige saw its sales increase by 8% to reach 3.5 billion dollars over the first nine months. Volumes sold are also increasing. All segments are growing, ranging from single-digit growth for shampoo and conditioner to double-digit growth for styling and care products.

« The hair care segment also performed well in the mass market, where it represents the largest share of the beauty market. “, adds Circana.
