Tips for Choosing and Using the Right Adhesive for Summer Eyelash Exte – Eyelash Emporium

0

With the hot weather just around the corner, we wanted to give you some top tips on choosing and using the best adhesive for creating your lash sets during the warm and humid time of year. Proper adhesive selection is crucial for maintaining the longevity and integrity of your client’s lashes.

LEVEL UP WITH QUALITY ADHESIVES

As lash techs, we only settle for the best, right? Opt for adhesives that are specifically formulated for lash extensions and have a solid reputation. Look for ones that can withstand the summer heat and humidity, ensuring your clients’ lashes stay flawless.

CONSIDER THE DRYING TIME

When the temperature rises, drying time becomes crucial. We recommend choosing an adhesive with a slightly slower drying time to minimise the risk of the glue becoming sticky or runny.

INGREDIENTS MATTER

Before choosing any adhesive, review the ingredients to ensure they’re formaldehyde-free and low on fumes. This helps minimise the risk of irritation and discomfort for the client. If you have clients with sensitive eyes or known allergies, consider using sensitive or hypoallergenic adhesives for that extra peace of mind.

KEEP IT FRESH

Heat can take a toll on adhesives, so store them in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. Avoid unnecessary exposure to high temperatures, as it can compromise the adhesive’s effectiveness. And don’t forget to replace your adhesive regularly, approximately every 4-6 weeks, to maintain optimal quality.

EDUCATE YOUR CLIENTS

Share your knowledge! Inform your clients about the impact of summer weather on their lash extensions. Advise them to avoid excessive exposure to water, steam, saunas, and prolonged sunlight, as these factors can affect retention. Empower them with proper aftercare instructions, so they can enjoy their luscious lashes all summer long.

Remember, the well-being and satisfaction of your clients should always be your top priority. By using the right adhesive and following these tips, you can ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for your clients during the summer season.

Cuccio Colour Rainbow Sorbet – Summer 2020 – Swatches & Review

Press Sample

Summer got you down? Not going outside because of the current shutdowns? I found your fix – get a tan thanks to the latest collection from Cuccio Colours! These semi-bleached neons are the perfect summer shades that made even ME look tan! (no small feat, let me tell ya!! lol)

Pistachio Sorbet

Limey-pistachio green creme

Who doesn’t love pistachio? I’ll literally eat anything pistachio (I mean have you HAD the Oreo Thins Pistachio? *said in Chandler Bing), so it’s no surprise that I love this shade! Leans a little on the lime-side.

Opacity scale (1-5): 2.25

Finish: creme, 2-3 coats to be opaque

Like Sorbet

Minty green creme

Mint chocolate chip everything is a win in my book, and this is pretty much the perfect shade to mimic my absolute favorite summer treat!  Looks amazing with Pistachio Sorbet and Blueberry Sorbet! I might have to sandwich some chunky black or brown (is brown glitter a thing?) glitter in the middle of two layers of this one! 🙂

Opacity scale (1-5): 2.5

Finish: creme, 2-3 coats to be opaque

Blueberry Sorbet

Bright sky blue creme

OMG Blue Moon ice cream!!! Any Midwesterners here? Blue Moon is a midwest staple (along with Superman Ice Cream, duh), and I don’t think it’s made it to many of the other states. If you get a chance, try it! What does it taste like? I dunno… blue? It’s the taste of childhood, obviously. This shade is the most opaque of the collection, easily covering in 2 coats, almost in 1!

Opacity scale (1-5): 4

Finish: creme, 2 coats to be opaque

Lavender Sorbet

Neon pinky-lavender creme

You know? I’ve never had lavender ice cream or sorbet, I can’t imagine what it would taste like, flowers? Regardless, this shade is a very bubblegummy leaning shade of lavender!

Opacity scale (1-5): 3

Finish: creme, 2 coats to be opaque

Cotton Candy Sorbet

Sweet pink creme

A paler version of Lavender Sorbet, Cotton Candy Sorbet is also a pinky-lavender creme, and though I haven’t tried it, I think it would make for a gorgeous ombre!

Opacity scale (1-5): 2.25

Finish: creme, 2-3 coats to be opaque

Dragonfruit Sorbet

Bright neon pink creme

Dragonfruit, despite not really having much flavor, is such a gorgeous fruit – I love the bright pink flesh with the black speckle of the seeds! This one might look cool with a coat of small black glitter. This shade and Punch Sorbet were both really hard to photograph (they’re very similar–both bright in different ways!) I’ve added a comparison shot at the end of the post.

Opacity scale (1-5): 2.5

Finish: creme, 2-3 coats to be opaque

Punch Sorbet

Slightly warm neon pink creme

Slightly lighter than Dragonfruit Sorbet, and ever-so-slightly warmer. I feel like Dragonfruit Sorbet is more than classic neon pink, and Punch has just a hint of something extra!

Opacity scale (1-5): 2.5

Finish: creme, 2-3 coats to be opaque

Peach Sorbet

Orange sherbet creme

I can just imagine this one floating atop some midwestern punch (a mix of fruit punch and Vernor’s or Sprite). A super bright peach, and as John Travolta would say… ‘It’s electrifying!’ This one was the sheerest and streakiest of the bunch and on some nails took 4 coats.

Opacity scale (1-5): 2

Finish: creme, 3-4 coats to be opaque

Cuccio has consistently been churning out awesome collections for the last year or so, and Rainbow Sorbet is no different! I can definitely see myself using several of these shades this summer–especially the blues and greens – they’re my favorites!! I especially love Mint Sorbet and Blueberry Sorbet, they look amazing together, and they both applied really easily.

Also, since I mentioned above that I was including a comparison shot of Dragonfruit Sorbet and Punch Sorbet, here you go! Dragonfruit Sorbet is on the left, and Punch Sorbet is on the right!

Left: Dragonfruit Sorbet, Right: Punch Sorbet

What are your favorites from this collection? Have you tried Cuccio Colour before? Tell me below in the comments!

You can find this collection and other Cuccio Colours shades at HB Beauty Bar for only $6.95 a bottle!

Origin

Frankincense is derived from the sap from the Boswell tree. When dried, frankincense is used as incense. When steam distilled it is an essential oil. The country of Oman is thought to be the oldest producer of frankincense. However it is produced in the Middle East, Africa and India. Frankincense has a long history in the Middle East, mostly in religious ceremonies such as funerals. In Egypt it was ground to make kohl and used as an eyeliner and was thought to improve vision. Apparently Emperor Nero used a balm made with frankincense to decrease the effects around his eyes from a night of debauchery. When distilled as oil it was used as a perfume. And of course the most popular story is that it was given to Jesus as a gift by the three wise men to ward off evil spirits.

Properties

According to numerous studies, frankincense has been shown to inhibit inflammation. Thus helping a variety of ailments from arthritis to acne. One study mentioned its assistance in digestion, those with inflammatory bowel diseases. Others suggest that frankincense can help with respiratory disorders to dental care. As an essential oil it has a calming affect due to its sweet woodsy yet subtly citrus perfume. A few drops added to your bath water are a luxurious way to relax and relief muscle pain. And you can find it  in our eye balm. Frankincense for the season.

Double Cleansing: Why One Wash is Never Enough

0

style=”;”
/>

Ever noticed how your skin still feels a bit grimy after a long day – even when you’ve already washed it? Between SPF, makeup, sweat (hello, summer!) and pollution, one quick cleanse just doesn’t cut it.

Once upon a time, soap-and-water (or a quick swipe with a face wipe) was considered enough. But now we know better: if you actually want to whisk away all the gunk, funk and junk without stripping your skin of its natural oils, you need a new approach.

The answer? Double cleansing (our go-to for those makeup and SPF days!).

Why One Cleanse Isn’t Enough

Throughout the day, airborne bacteria, pollution, sweat and excess oil build up on your skin. Then add in makeup and sunscreen too. If all of these things aren’t properly washed away, they can contribute to:

  • Premature ageing
  • Pigmentation
  • Pesky breakouts

…aka the skincare villains we’d all prefer to avoid.

That’s why double cleansing is the gold standard. It clears away stubborn pore-clogging impurities that a single cleanse often leaves behind.

What Exactly Is Double Cleansing?

Double cleansing means washing your face twice:

  • Step 1: with an oil-based cleanser (to melt away oil-based grime like sunscreen, sebum, and makeup).
  • Step 2: with a water-based cleanser (to sweep up non-oil-based impurities like sweat, dirt, and leftover residue).

Afterwards, skin feels cleaner, clearer and more prepped to drink up your serums, moisturisers and oils.

Double Cleansing for Your Skin Type

Like most things in skincare, this isn’t a one-routine-fits-all dealio. The second cleanse is where you can target your skin concerns.

  • Dry or mature skin: Cleanse with hydrating, nourishing formulas to plump and comfort.
  • Oily or blemish-prone skin: Choose clarifying products to balance sebum and calm inflammation.
  • Sensitive skin: Stick to gentle, barrier-friendly formulas that soothe while they cleanse.

Quick tip: Over-cleansing can backfire. Strip too much oil and your body may pump out more, leading to breakouts or irritation.

How to Double Cleanse (The Woohoo Way)

Step One: Start with Cloud 9 Deep Cleansing Balm

Every good double cleanse starts with an oil-based formula. Why? Because oil attracts oil, meaning this dreamy, creamy balm melts away SPF, makeup, sebum and the day’s grime like a charm. Massage into dry skin, add water to emulsify and rinse off to reveal soft, nourished skin that’s perfectly prepped for round two.

Step Two: Follow with You’ve Got This Charcoal Cleansing Gel

Once the balm has lifted away the day’s grime, the gel steps in to sweep up the rest: sweat, dirt, and the pesky pore gunk oil can’t grab. With micellar technology and charcoal working in tandem, your skin gets a thorough yet gentle clean that leaves it feeling fresh, balanced and ready to soak up the rest of your routine.

But that’s not the only way….

Our Favourite Double-Cleanse Duos

Now for the fun part – matching your cleanse to your skin. Everyone’s skin has different needs, so the best double-cleanse duo isn’t one-size-fits-all. Think of it as mix-and-match skincare: start with an oil or balm to melt away the day, then follow with the second step that suits your skin type.

Here are our favourite double-cleanse pairings:

The Classic (for Normal, Oily or Blemish-Prone Skin)

Cloud 9 Deep Cleansing Balm + You’ve Got This Charcoal Cleansing Gel

The ultimate “deep clean” duo. Cloud 9 melts away SPF, makeup and sebum, while the gel clears out pore-clogging sweat and impurities. Leaves skin fresh, balanced and breakout-resistant.

The Gentle (for Dry, Mature or Sensitive Skin)

3 Cheers Cleansing Oil + Tickled Pink Clarifying Mist

A softer, soothing option. The oil dissolves the day without stripping, and Tickled Pink refreshes with aloe and ferments for a calming finish.

Tip: Even though Tickled Pink is a mist, its fruit ferments + willow bark give it a gentle (and unconventional) cleansing boost.

Bonus Tip: Raindrops Hydrating Face Mist also doubles as a refreshing second cleanse or post-cleanse hydration boost!

If you’re not sure where to start, Cloud 9 + Charcoal Gel is our most-loved duo and suits the majority of skin types.

When Should You Double Cleanse?

Double cleansing is brilliant after long days when you’ve been wearing makeup, sunscreen or you’ve been out in the elements. It helps make sure you’ve actually removed everything, not just the surface grime.

But if you’ve had a makeup-free day indoors, a single gentle cleanse is often plenty. The idea isn’t to complicate your routine. It’s to give your skin the best clean when it really needs it.

We recommend keeping it for your night routinewhen your skin has a full day of grime to shed. In the morning, a single gentle cleanse (or just a splash of water) is usually plenty.

Ready to give your face the clean of its life? Pick your perfect double-cleanse duo and let your skin drink up the Woohoo goodness.

Happy cleansing, Woohoo-ers!

YSL Beauty Holiday 2025 – The Beauty Look Book

0

YSL Beauty has some of the prettiest limited-edition packaging with their holiday collection this year! I picked up the Golden Oasis Couture Face Palette ($85) along with the new shades of Loveshine Plumping Lip Oil Gloss ($40) and Candy Glaze Lip Gloss Stick ($43).

Golden Oasis Couture Face Palette

YSL Beauty Holiday 2025 Golden Oasis Palette

The Golden Oasis Couture Face Palette comes in a stunning limited-edition mirrored compact with six cheek colors. Three of the colors are shimmery highlighters, three are blushes with two shimmers and one matte. I think out of all the recent blush launches the YSL Make Me Blush formula is the best for the soft blendable texture and colors. Original review here. Having multiple shades in a palette is a beauty lover’s dream come true. You can see all the shades in action here.

A few of the colors are really similar to individual shades I own. The peachy shimmer resembles Restless Rose and the rose pink shimmer is really close to Nude Lavalliere.

Shades in this palette include a soft peachy gold shimmer, pale gold shimmer, pale iridescent pink sparkle, rose shimmer blush, deep magenta matte blush and warm copper gold shimmer.

YSL Beauty Holiday 2025 Golden Oasis Palette swatches

YSL Beauty Holiday 2025 Golden Oasis Palette Makeup Look

The highlighters are very shimmery so if you can’t wear high shimmer shades, I recommend opting for a different face palette.
I really love this one. I think it really does have everything you need for a holiday look and I love that you can also wear the shimmers on the eyes.

New Holiday Lip Colors

YSL Beauty Holiday 2025 Lips

There are two new shades of the Loveshine Plumping Lip Oil Gloss in 100 Sparkling Dream and 12 Honey Moon. I tried these earlier in the year and reviewed them here. I love the colors + shine but the plumping factor is extreme and the sting and tingle is overpowering for me. I decided to try these again anyways since the colors are SO beautiful but I still cannot wear them comfortably on the lips. I will say though that if I layer them on top of a lipstick, the lipstick underneath acts as a buffer and making the plumping gloss more bearable to wear. All shades swatched in this video here.

YSL Loveshine Plumping Lip Oil 12 Honey Moon

YSL Candy Glaze 21 Shimmer Nude

YSL Candy Glaze 22 Shimmer Rose

As a Candy Glaze lover I could not be more thrilled they launched new shades in this particular formula (original review here). 21 Shimmer Nude is a beautiful pale opalescent champagne beige shade but pulls very pale on my complexion. 22 Shimmer Rose is the one MUST-HAVE in my opinion. It’s such a stunning soft rose pink shade. It’s currently sold out online but I still highly recommend using the Buy Online Pick Up In Store option – it’s a great way to reserve the products online and pick them up at your convenience. I also use it to make sure my local store has things in stock before heading over in person. By popular request I pulled a few comparisons to other rose tones and other Candy Glaze shades. I really love that Dior Addict Lip Maximizer in 083 Sparkling Rose which is a slightly warmer version of the YSL 22 Shimmer Rose (but in gloss form).

YSL Rose Lip Swatches Candy Glaze

Overall love everything in this collection color-wise. I still cannot wear those plumping lip glosses but the colors are 10/10 stunning. If you pick up one thing from this launch though I do think that Candy Glaze 22 is the best one. I highly recommend adding these to your list for the upcoming Sephora Sale starting on the 31st for Rouge Members!

Who won Celebrity Traitors? Winner revealed in unexpected final twist

0

Who would have thought that sending 19 beloved British personalities to a gothic castle in Scotland would be so damn fun? And so very watchable? The first season of Celebrity Traitors was nothing short of an absolute treat. From Alan Carr’s profuse sweating to tittering over Celia Imrie’s utterly iconic fart (there are some words I never thought I’d type), it’s been a riot. But who won Celebrity Traitors?

In addition to all of the memeable moments through the series, there has been plenty of gripping gameplay, too. Let’s remind ourselves of the roller coaster ride: the 19 celebs rocked up to the castle in cars only to be swiftly driven to a makeshift graveyard where they dug their own graves searching for the first six shields. Later, Jonathan Ross, Cat Burns and Alan Carr were selected as the three Traitors.

In an unusual twist, it took the Faithful celebs a very, very long time to hunt one of them down. In the meantime, countless Faithful were murdered or banished. Annoyingly, everyone was kind of onto Jonathan Ross thanks to the popular Big Dog theory — but he wasn’t banished until last week.

After Alan murdered Celia Imrie in plain sight by quoting a few lines of Shakespeare at her (again, something never thought I’d type), the remaining group banished Kate Garraway. This left us with our five finalists: Traitors Alan Carr and Cat Burns, and Faithfuls David Olusoga, Joe Marler and Nick Mohammed.

In the final, players did not reveal their true identities when leaving the game, meaning the five remaining contestants were forced to make their final call on pure instinct.

So what happened in the final and who won Celebrity Traitors?

What happened in the Celebrity Traitors final?

In the penultimate episode, Joe Marler came up with yet another theory. But this time, he was right: he was convinced that Alan and Cat were the two Traitors in their midst and he sought out Nick and David to get them on side. (It didn’t help when Alan burst out laughing while saying “I’m a Faithful” — let’s face it, he was doomed.)

In the tense Celebrity Traitors finale, the group completed their sufficiently stressful escape room-esque train task before running through a lush green field to Claudia.

The tone quickly turned though, after the celebrities had to carry out their final banishments.

Nick and David made an alliance, agreeing to vote for Cat in an attempt to seal her fate. Meanwhile, though, Joe did an amazing job of flying undercover with the traitors by forming his own alliance with Cat and Alan and agreeing to vote for David.

Ultimately, however, when it came time to vote, while Cat and Alan voted for David as planned, Joe successfully pulled the rug out from under the traitors, with Joe voting for Cat too. Bravo on your poker face, sir. Immaculately executed on your part. But did Alan make it out alive and win it for the traitors?

At the end of the finale, the group gathered around the fire pit to cast their final judgement, with each of them voting to banish again in the belief that there were remaining traitors in their midst.

So who won Celebrity Traitors? Did Joe Marler’s hunch pay off?

Who won Celebrity Traitors?

First up, meet our runners-up…

FLAVOUR BOMB PASTA

0

The first of 4 exclusive recipes (that will be dropping weekly!), chef and food writer Nina Parker brings us an easy taste sensation

Images: Nina Parker

I find that anything with baked feta is a bit of a cheat because it creates intense flavour with minimal effort. The classic combination of mixing chilli, feta and lemon together is always a winner. This is proper comfort food!

Serves 4. Vegetarian

Ingredients:

10 tbsp olive oil

2 blocks of Greek feta cheese (400g)

1 red/white onion, sliced

6 garlic cloves, skins left on

1 level tsp dried chilli flakes

Zest of 1 lemon and the juice of 1/2

1 whole broccoli head,(260g) divided into equal bite-sized pieces

4 handfuls of baby spinach, quickly wilted down in a frying pan

320g pasta of your choice, I love rigatoni for this

Salt and pepper

Method:

Preheat the oven to 190C and grab a large baking dish.

Add 8 tablespoons of olive oil, feta, onion, garlic cloves and chilli flakes. Make sure everything is coated without breaking the feta.

Place into the oven for 20 mins.

Throw the broccoli into a bowl and add the last two spoons of olive oil. Season with salt and pepper.

Remove the tray and scatter the broccoli around.  Place back into the oven for another 20-25 minutes or until everything is cooked.

Squeeze the garlic out of their skins and put the cloves into a small bowl.

In the last 10 mins of cooking, start on the pasta. Set a large pan of water to boil and when bubbling, salt water generously!  Then add the pasta and cook to the packet instructions.

Just before the pasta is ready, scoop out about 150ml of the cooking water and add this to the garlic cloves.  Use a spoon to mash it all together.  Pour this over the baking dish along with the drained pasta, wilted spinach, lemon zest and juice.

Toss everything together, breaking up the feta and season with more pepper.  Taste to check the seasoning adding more chilli flakes if needed.

Serve straight away!

Is it time to break up with natural beauty?

0

The beauty industry has long sold us the dream that natural equals good – good for us, good for the planet, good for everyone. But what if that connection is more myth than reality?

In this thought-provoking episode of Green Beauty Conversations, Lorraine Dallmeier, Chartered Environmentalist, Biologist, and CEO of Formula Botanica, explores whether it’s time to question our blind faith in natural beauty.

Surveys show that most consumers assume ‘natural ‘ means sustainable, ethical, and eco-friendly. Yet, the truth is that the word ‘natural’ is completely unregulated.

A brand can bulldoze forests, harvest threatened plants, or exploit communities and still call their product natural. So, does the label actually tell us anything about the environmental or social impact of our beauty choices?

Following on from last week’s inspiring interview with Asa Suguitan of Hawaii Sandalwood, who shared his family’s journey in restoring one of the rarest ecosystems in the world, this week’s episode asks a tough question: is it time to break up with natural beauty once and for all?

Listen here

“The word natural is a feel-good label that can hide a thousand sins.” — Lorraine Dallmeier

Key takeaways:

  • Natural and sustainable are not the same: We often conflate natural beauty with sustainability, but the two concepts are very different. An ingredient can be labelled as natural and still cause environmental harm. For instance, cutting down a 200-year-old tree in a fragile ecosystem, refining it into oil, and selling it as natural is completely legal – yet far from sustainable.
  • Ecosystem health matters more than labels: The best cosmetic ingredients come from thriving ecosystems – forests with rich soils, balanced water cycles, and diverse species. Sustainability requires us to think beyond extraction and focus on regeneration. Brands and suppliers need to ensure that the ecosystems they draw from are being left healthier, not depleted.
  • Natural beauty can hide exploitation: Because natural is unregulated, the label can conceal damaging practices: monoculture farming, deforestation, exploitation of labour, and biodiversity loss. Consumers are lulled into believing they are making ethical choices when, in reality, they may be contributing to environmental and social harm.
  • Rethinking what beauty really means: It’s time for the beauty industry to ask harder questions: is this ingredient traceable? Regenerative? Does it benefit local communities? The natural label doesn’t answer these questions. Instead of clinging to ‘natural’, we should prioritise integrity, transparency, and regenerative practices that truly honour the land.
  • Learning from restoration projects: Last week’s conversation with Hawaii Sandalwood showed that another way is possible. By restoring degraded land and replanting diverse native species, they demonstrated how businesses can thrive while protecting ecosystems. This model gives hope for a future where beauty aligns with ecological care – and challenges us to demand more from the industry.
