Uché Blackstock: When My Husband Moved Out, My Glow-Up Began

0

This month marks five years since my ex-husband moved out. He actually moved just next door, into another building in our co-op. It was what we agreed on: We’d share custody of the boys, half and half. In those early days, it felt surreal that our lives were still so close and yet completely changed. But here I am, five years later. I survived. We survived.

The morning after he moved out, I woke up to silence that felt different. It wasn’t heavy this time, but full of possibility. We had been living under stress and tension in the same apartment through the first year of the pandemic. We were two people coexisting, trying to hold together what was already unraveling. Many months earlier, I had asked for a divorce. My mind was ahead of my body. I remember feeling numb during the conversation. But that morning, in the stillness of our home, the decision finally caught up to my reality.

The house was quiet. The boys were with their father, and I already missed them intensely—their laughter, their noise, their sweet wet kisses. But beneath the ache was something I hadn’t felt in years: relief. Peace. An almost dizzying kind of freedom. For the first time in so long, I could dream without guilt. With the door closed on my marriage—now both literally and metaphorically—my life was entirely my own again: open, uncertain, and full of possibility.

I didn’t know it then, but that morning marked the beginning of what I now call my post-divorce glow-up. It wasn’t just the internal kind, but the visible one too. People noticed it before I did. My social-media followers, friends, and even my divorce attorney commented on it. And when I look back at photos from before and after, I truly did look like a different person. I looked alive again. It wasn’t about becoming someone new; it was about finally seeing myself again.

In those early days, I was still struggling. I had built a life around the idea that if I worked hard enough, loved well enough, and endured long enough, everything would hold. At least that’s what I told myself. Letting go felt like giving up on everything, even as another part of me knew it was the only way forward.

As a woman, a wife, a mother, and a physician, I had been both formally and informally taught to pour into everyone else before myself. My training and upbringing rewarded self-sacrifice: Keep your head down, do the work, meet the need. That lesson carried me far—through residency, motherhood, and entrepreneurship—but it also taught me to disappear inside achievement. I learned to be reliable, resilient, and agreeable, even when I didn’t want to be. Deciding to end my marriage and then choosing the direction of my life on my own terms was a radical departure from everything I’d been conditioned to believe about love, duty, and womanhood.

If you’ve been scrolling through TikTok looking for a real solution to your hair fall nightmare, you’re not alone. Hair shedding, thinning ponytails, and widening partings have quietly become modern beauty concerns and they’re showing up on our For You pages more than ever.

And now, one of the most trusted dermatologists on the app, Dr. Aamna Adel, a London-based dermatologist with over 1.8 million followers has shared the definitive game plan to fight hair fall and boost regrowth. Her latest viral video on dealing with hormonal hair thinning, and Dr. Adel didn’t just identify the root cause, she offered three powerful, evidence-based treatments that dermatologists genuinely swear by.

Welcome to your new hair hair fall survival guide.

Dermatologist Shares 3 Step Hair Fall Control Routine

Before we go full detective mode, it’s important to know that losing 50 to 100 hairs a day is completely normalaccording to the NHS. That said, if you’re noticing thinner ponytails, more visible scalp, or a parting that seems to be widening, it could be a sign of androgenetic alopecia, commonly known as male or female pattern baldness. It’s genetic, and yes, it can affect women too.

Hair loss can also be triggered by stress, illness, iron deficiency, dramatic weight loss, or as a side effect of cancer treatments. So if you’re seeing consistent shedding, don’t panic, but do pay attention.

Step 1: Minoxidil

“There’s a reason why every single dermatologist is obsessed with minoxidil and no, we’re not being paid to say it,” Dr. Adel says in her video.

She recommends the 5% men’s foam version of Rogaine(yes, even for women, just apply carefully) and boosts its power by pairing it with tretinoin and derma stamping for better absorption.

Why it works: Minoxidil increases blood flow to hair follicles, helping them grow thicker, healthier strands. While results take time (think 3-6 months), consistency is key here and clinical trials back it.

Women should not use finasteride (another hair loss medication) unless under direct medical supervision, as per NHS guidelines.

Step 2: Anti-Fungal Shampoo

You’ve probably never thought of your shampoo as a hair growth treatment, but Dr. Adel recommends Nizoral anti-fungal shampoo as her second must-have.

Why?

It helps reduce inflammation on the scalp and blocks DHT, a hormone that’s been strongly linked to pattern hair loss in both men and women. Use it 2 to 3 times a week, leave it on for a couple of minutes, then rinse and follow up with your regular shampoo. It’s simple, affordable, and surprisingly effective.

Don’t skip conditioner as anti-fungal shampoos can leave your strands feeling straw-like if not followed by hydrating conditioner.

Step 3: Low-Level Laser Therapy

Looking to invest in a high-tech solution? Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) devices are now a major player in the hair regrowth space.

Dr. Adel’s take: “Ten minutes, a few times a week, and this baby will help fill out your parting.”

Why it works: The red light energy stimulates hair follicles and boosts cell activity, promoting regrowth in dormant follicles. It’s FDA-cleared, scientifically backed, and while it’s on the pricier side, many users see visible improvement with consistent use.

Over To You

Not all hair loss is permanent but even temporary thinning can impact your confidence. The key is understanding the why behind your shedding and acting fast with treatments that work with your biology, not against it.

Dr. Adel’s TikTok may feel like a casual scroll, but her recommendations are grounded in clinical evidence and real-world results. If your hair’s been feeling more fragile lately, this three-step routine could be the reset button you’ve been looking for.

Still unsure?

Book an appointment with your dermatologist to rule out underlying medical causes like thyroid issues, anemia, or hormonal imbalances.

Hair fall isn’t the end, it’s the beginning of a new, smarter routine.

Bois De Vetiver by Karl Lagerfeld

0

It’s all the fault of the Mail on Sunday, yes, the Mail on Sunday. Casually browsing the paper in a cafe while having breakfast a couple of week ago I saw an advert for Bois De Vetiver by Karl Lagerfeld. The offer suggested that a 50ml bottle was available for around £30 and bing, that was me sold. After wandering around the shops I came across a 50ml bottle at The Perfume Shop for £15 (it’s £16.99 now)! Being prepared to spend £30 I ended up buying two bottles and in a pique of Christmas spirit I have a bottle available to give away to one lucky reader.
GIVEAWAY: Bois De Vetiver by Karl Lagerfeld

But do you really want to win it? After all, it could smell a bit rank, and considering it’s well…..cheap, suggests that it isn’t that popular. I got my sniffing tackle around my bottle and this is what I think to the aftershave.

Bois De Vetiver is a new fragrance for 2017 and is sold as a powerful yet cool fragrance. Personally, after reading the notes to this I had no idea what to expect. The notes are:

Head: Blood orange, pink grapefruit and mint leaves

Heart: Ambrox, geranium and rose

Dry-down: Patchouli, musk and Vetiver

Taking those notes into account, I’d expect a really light fragrance, citrusy and fresh that dries down to something of a floral and woody base. What I encountered was quite possibly the best fragrance find, ever.

The first two sprays really did fill me with a sense of joy, yes, it’s light and you can only really detect the grapefruit. It’s sharp on the nose for a good five to ten minutes before the crushed mint leaves take the edge off. After ten minutes the the head notes fade and become really subtle and the rose takes on the driving seat. Rather than becoming overly floral like Man Rose by Etro, the heart notes blend beautifully to give a smooth mix of citrus and rose – weirdly, this is where the fragrance starts to become more and more like Grey Vetiver by Tom Ford and when I say like, I mean it’s nearly identical!

After about thirty minutes the fragrance becomes so very subtle I can hardly notice it on my skin, but after thrusting my wrist at the other half she assured me it was still strong and when wearing this around the office it’s obvious from the compliments that it has excellent sillage properties (it’s like a lovely scented trail that follows you around).

An hour in and this is basically the same as Grey Vetiver – I honestly can’t tell the difference, if anything, it sparks more comments (positive of course) from those who surround me. Result!

The patchouli and vetiver provide a really masculine base with a warm woody twang with just a hint of the floral notes that sits on the skin without being powerful or overbearing on the nose. It’s lush – no, it’s actually better than that. I love it. When you consider that this lasts on the skin for well over ten hours it makes it perfect for daywear, nights out or those special romantic occasions. It’s perfect for any situation.

So, for under £20 you can pick up an aftershave that is on a par with more expensive variants from Tom Ford (Grey Vetiver can cost up to £85 for 50ml)and if you’re lucky, you can pick up a bottle for free if you enter and are drawn as the winner of my giveaway. If you’re not lucky, you really should pick up a bottle or two of this while it’s on offer, and I promise you will not be disappointed.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

The Best Fermented Foods to Boost Your Gut Health

0

Chances are, you’ve been sleeping on fermented foods for most of your life. Here in the US, they’re “not a natural part of our diet like in a lot of other populations,” Amy Burkhart, MD, RD, a physician and registered dietitian who specializes in gut health, tells SELF. Germany has sauerkraut, Korea has kimchi, China has stinky tofu, Japan has miso, but Americans—ever behind gastronomically—don’t have a signature fermented dish.

But interest in fermented food is growing steadily as people become more cognizant of its far-reaching benefits for the gut. And unlike some contemporary nutrition trends (looking at you, protein craze), it’s not all hype: Eating a diet rich in fermented foods really is a big win for your digestion, Alma Simmons, RDN, a registered dietitian at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, tells SELF.

Below, we’ll break down how exactly fermented foods translate into a digestive boost; which fermented foods are best; whether fermented foods pose any health risks; and what you should keep in mind if you’d like to incorporate them into your diet more often. (Number one: “Don’t be wary of trying them!” Dr. Burkhart says.)

Why are fermented foods so good for gut health?

Fermentation involves the breakdown of carbohydrates like sugars and starches by beneficial microorganisms like bacteria, yeasts, and molds, especially lactic acid-producing bacteria. In nutrition-speak, these microorganisms are often termed “probiotics.” When you ingest these microbes in fermented foods, drinks, or probiotic supplements, they can positively affect your digestive system in a multitude of ways. Not only do they support your gut microbiome—the collection of microorganisms that live in your digestive tract—but they also strengthen the tissue that lines the gut (a.k.a. the “gut barrier”), improve your body’s ability to absorb nutrients, and reduce digestive symptoms like gas, bloating, and diarrhea.

In addition to their GI effects, these microbes can also benefit your health in other ways. They reduce inflammation, mediate your immune response, balance blood sugar, and lower harmful LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Plus, “there is some evidence that they can improve mood and cognition,” Dr. Burkhart says. What’s more, she notes, many of these non-digestive perks may boost digestive health indirectly—a “circular effect.” Inflammation, for example, is widely believed to be a factor in autoimmune conditions, including digestive disorders like IBD and celiac disease, so by that token decreasing it could further reduce symptoms.

Does Icing Your Face Help With Acne?

0

Acne is a common skin concern that affects millions of people worldwide. While there are many different treatments available for this bothersome problem, one simple and cost-effective method gaining popularity is facial icing.

So, does this technique really help, or is it just a bunch of hype? This article will explore the science behind the practice of facial icing and its potential benefits for your skin, so before you break out your ice cube tray, read on.

What To Know About Breakouts

Breakouts occur when hair follicles and pores become clogged from excessive oil production and dead skin cells, which leads to the formation of pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads. Many people wonder if acne is preventable — and to some extent, it is.

However, there are some factors in play that simply can’t be controlled, including hormonal changes, genetics, and some lifestyle habits. While acne is often associated with teens, it can plague people of all ages. Unfortunately, dealing with acne and wrinkles at the same time is a common concern that many people don’t talk about.

Luckily, there are skincare products and practices that can help you manage complex skin concerns, and facial icing is one of them.

What Is the Science Behind Facial Icing?

Facial icing, also known as cold therapy or cryotherapy, involves applying ice or cold compresses to the skin. This practice has been used for centuries to address various skin concerns, including acne.

The real question is: does it actually work? The short answer is yes (kind of). The science behind ice facials is rooted in its ability to constrict blood vessels and reduce irritation. In some ways, this can indirectly help acne sufferers.

What Are the Benefits of Icing Your Face?

There are a few key benefits that come with facial icing:

Reducing Swelling and Redness

One of the primary benefits of facial icing is its ability to reduce swelling and redness associated with acne. When you apply ice to your skin, it causes blood vessels to constrict, which can help minimize the appearance of inflammatory acne.

Enhancing Blood Circulation

While initially constricting blood vessels, icing can also promote improved blood circulation in the long run. This increased blood flow can help deliver essential nutrients to the skin, promoting overall skin health and potentially aiding in the healing process of acne lesions.

Minimizing Pore Appearance

Cold temperatures can temporarily tighten the skin and shrink pores, making them appear smaller. This effect can be particularly beneficial for those with oily or acne-prone skin, as smaller pores are less likely to become clogged with excess sebum and debris.

How To Ice Your Face Properly

To reap the full benefits of facial icing, it’s important to follow proper techniques:

  1. Cleanse your face thoroughly with a gentle, organic cleanser, like Juice Beauty’s Blemish Clearing Cleanser. An Organic Spa Magazine award winner, this gentle cleanser is formulated to deeply cleanse and remove impurities while keeping skin soft and hydrated.
  2. Wrap ice cubes in a soft cloth or paper towel, or use a clean washcloth soaked in ice-cold water.
  3. Gently apply the cold compress to your face, focusing on areas prone to acne.
  4. Move the compress in circular motions, avoiding prolonged contact with any one area.
  5. Limit icing sessions to no more than one or two minutes per area.
  6. Follow up with soothing skincare that fits your unique skin type. Our Blemish Clearing Solutions Kit has everything you need for fresh, clear skin.

Ice Cubes vs. Ice Packs

You may be wondering if an ice pack will do the job just as well as an ice cube wrapped in a soft cloth.

While both ice cubes and ice packs can be effective, ice cubes offer more precision for targeting specific areas. However, ice packs may be more convenient for larger areas or full-face treatments.

Commercial Ice Rollers

An alternative to the ice cube vs. ice pack debacle is the commercial ice roller. Ice rollers are specifically designed tools that can make facial icing a bit more convenient and less messy. Some are made of stainless steel, while others come with massaging balls and built-in gel that stays cold for long periods.

If you choose to go with an ice roller, make sure you clean it thoroughly after each use, as neglecting to do so could spread bacteria and actually make your acne worse. There’s no evidence that ice rollers work any better than a simple ice cube, but some people find the sensation more satisfying, especially on inflamed skin with puffiness or swelling.

Incorporating Natural Ingredients

For an added boost, consider freezing natural ingredients like green tea bags, aloe vera, or cucumber slices to use in your facial icing routine. These ingredients can provide additional soothing and anti-inflammatory benefits.

How Often Should You Ice Your Face, and For How Long?

Facial icing should be done in moderation to avoid potential side effects like ice burns or irritation.

Here are some guidelines:

  • Limits icing sessions to once or twice daily. Once in the morning and once at night, right before you start your skincare routine, is ideal.
  • Keep each session to five minutes or less.
  • Allow at least four hours between icing sessions to let your skin return to normal and ensure that you’re not overdoing it.
  • If you have sensitive skin, start with shorter sessions and gradually increase the duration.

How To Incorporate Icing Into Your Skincare Routine

Trying to envision how you can incorporate icing into your skincare routine? We recommend doing it in this order:

  1. Cleanse: Clean your face with a gentle cleanser like the Stem Cellular Cleansing Oil.

(Don’t let the word “oil” scare you. The right kind of oil can actually help your skin to regulate sebum production).

  1. Ice: Apply a cold compress, or use your ice roller for one to three minutes.
  2. Apply your serum: Choose one that best fits your skincare needs, keeping in mind that acne can go hand in hand with other skin concerns.
  3. Moisturize: Opt for gel and/or oil-free formulations.
  4. Finish with sunscreen: Especially if your moisturizer doesn’t contain SPF.

Complementary Skincare Practices

While facial icing can certainly be beneficial, it’s most effective when combined with a well-thought-out skincare routine.

Consider incorporating these practices:

  1. Exfoliation: On top of your regular gentle cleansing, you should also be exfoliating. Regular exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells that can clog pores.

    1. Try Juice Beauty’s Revitalizing Acacia + Rose Powder Mask for a gentle yet effective option. In a clinical study, 100% of participants reported that the mask gently removed impurities after just 4 weeks of use, while 97% said their skin looked and felt revitalized and smoother instantly.

  2. Spot treatment: If you have occasional breakouts or a random blemish pop up here or there, you might want to try a spot treatment. They are designed to be used as needed for the occasional pesky pimple.

  3. Moisturizing: Many people with acne-prone skin are hesitant to moisturize for fear it may make breakouts worse. However, this is a misconception — your skin still needs moisture. Opt for an oil-free version or a gel formulation to avoid clogging pores.

  4. Sun protection: Always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.

What Products Can Help With Breakouts?

In addition to facial icing, consider incorporating some of these all-star Juice Beauty products into your breakout-fighting routine:

Stem Cellular Anti-Wrinkle Booster Serum

This anti-wrinkle serum helps improve skin tone and texture while addressing fine lines and wrinkles. Don’t forget: anyone of any age can get acne, and having acne doesn’t mean that other skin concerns disappear.

In a clinical study, 95% of participants reported younger and smoother-looking skin and improved skin tone and texture.

Blemish Clearing Salicylic Acid Serum

Formulated with salicylic acid and other natural ingredients, this salicylic acid serum is designed to target acne and promote clearer skin.

SPF 30 Matte Oil-Free Moisturizer

Keep your skin hydrated with this lightweight, broad spectrum SPF 30 moisturizer. It’s oil free, which means you won’t need to worry about getting more breakouts. Antioxidant rich organic grape and pomegranate juices will help prevent premature signs of aging while protecting your skin.

The Bottom Line

Facial icing can be a valuable addition to your skincare routine, especially when dealing with acne. By reducing irritation, supporting circulation, and minimizing pore appearance, this simple technique can help you to achieve clearer, healthier-looking skin.

But remember: facial icing alone won’t help you to achieve your skin goals. You should consider combining icing with a comprehensive skincare regimen using clean, organic products.

As with any new skincare practice, it’s always best to consult with a dermatologist, particularly if you have sensitive skin or persistent acne concerns.

Pure XS by Paco Rabanne

0

Paco Rabanne, one of the first ever aftershaves in my collection and the original XS version of this aftershave was a staple for a good five years in my early 20s. Invictus was another triumph so when Pure XS fell into my collection after the good lady wife paid a visit to Disneyland in November I was mightily pleased. The massive velvet box of Pure XS by Paco Rabanne also looks the part with something of luxurious start to the testing process.
AFTERSHAVE: Pure XS by Paco Rabanne
AFTERSHAVE: Pure XS by Paco Rabanne

The notes to Pure XS are:

  • Head: Green sap and white thyme
  • Heart: Ginger and cinnamon
  • Dry-down: Vanilla and myrrh

With notes like that I’d have expected a very heavy fragrance, earthy in nature with a sweet base, but I was astounded by how it played out after spraying it liberally across myself.

First up, it’s quite potent, anything more than four sprays and people around you will be gagging for a good hour after you’ve applied it. The green sap does give something of a earthy fragrance at first and weirdly, I found that it came across a little spicy for the first five minutes, with a warmth on the nose that brought a wry smile to my face – it doesn’t give the impression that this is a complex blend but as it starts to evolve and dry down I swear you’ll wonder how you did without this in your collection.

The ginger is barely noticeable but you can pick up hints of cinnamon but only for again a few minutes before the warmth intensifies and it becomes very heavy, but again, for no more than thirty minutes. I started to think this was a little too heavy for my tastes, I’m more of a light, fresh citrus kind of aftershave wearer but just as I expected to be panning this for being a bit too blokey, it lightened and actually becomes sweet, on a par with Eros by Versace. Wheres Eros uses tonka beans for the sweetness, the use of vanilla means that this lasts and lasts on the skin.

Just four sprays of this and you’ll be smelling lovely all day long – it’s strength plays out on the skin for a good ten hours plus making it a very hardwearing fragrance. Yes it does come across as a bit too heavy at first but the sweetness of the vanilla takes the edge off making it a perfect blend between masculinity and sweetness.

Nearly £50 for a bottle is a bit steep but this is a perfect fragrance for day wear around the office and with the excellent sillage properties mean you’ll be badgered in a good way about what you’re wearing today – those around you will be able to smell it, and if like my experience, at least 95 per cent of people will have a positive reaction. It’s hard wearing, a bottle will last for months even if using daily which in my view makes it a decent mid-range aftershave.

11 Best Gifts for Book Lovers & Audiobook Fans—Reviews, Photos

As its name suggests, this e-reader comes in color! (Well, the ink does.) The design itself comes in two different shade options—black or white—and weighs less than half a pound. (I just got the white one.) In terms of what’s inside the device, that’s completely up to the reader, thanks to its 16 GB storage. You can fill it with all your favorite e-books and audiobooks from the Kobo Store or loaned out directly from your local library via Libby (IYKYK).

With as much traveling as I do and the number of books I read a month (usually around 15!), the lightweight, easily packable, and waterproof (!) e-reader will certainly come in clutch.

Libro.fm Credit Bundles

As someone who has listened to up to 25 audiobooks in a month, having access to a subscription service, like Libro.fm, is a must. Not only will the monthly credits keep your giftee from spending extra on piecemeal audiobooks—which can get costly real fast at $20 a pop—but it’ll also keep them in the loop on all of the new releases ahead of launch.

But what makes Libro.fm’s platform different than the rest is that when you create an account, you simultaneously select a local bookstore to support. So every credit used (or bought) will directly benefit both Libro.fm and a neighborhood shop. How neat!

You can shop credit bundles for your listener (starting at a two-pack, all the way up to a 24-pack), and when they run out, they can always scour the sales because Libro.fm often has deep discounts on trending books.

Listen…no, literally listen. I don’t want to be That Girl who hypes up every single Apple product, but the sound quality of AirPods Max headphones is actually very nice. If your book-loving giftee is as into audiobooks as much as I am, they’re going to want the best noise-canceling option on the market, to not only drown out ambient sound but to ensure no one would ever be able to audibly catch them listening to spicy audiobooks in the wild. 😉

Let fate decide your next read with “Blind Date with a Book.” I love this gift’s concept because not only does it take the guesswork out of searching stacks and stacks of shelves for a great book, but the surprise element makes it fun for both the gifter and the giftee—no one knows what’s been wrapped up until it’s opened! If you know your giftee’s preferred genre, you can select from a variety of options (romance, fantasy, thriller, etc.), share their Goodreads account, and…voilà! A neatly packaged book, along with some cute extras, like stickers and bookmarks, will be sent straight to the reader recipient—how fun!

(Okay, fine, maybe I am currently listening to an audiobook, but that’s neither here nor there.) Since I can’t read and work at the same time, I’ll just wear this sweatshirt in protest. Don’t get me wrong, I love my job. I just happen to love reading a little bit more. Gift this pullover to your book-loving friend who feels the same.

For the Bed Rot-Loving Reader: Hantuswus Lazy Glasses

Are these quite possibly the most ridiculous things you’ve ever seen? Yes. Do I still want them? Double yes. As a cozy bed reader, I often jump into my books while I’m horizontal, which one, probably isn’t great for my neck and lower back, and two, means I have to hold my Kindle up or MacGyver a makeshift pillow prop to keep my e-reader upright (see above request for a tablet pillow). With these goofy glasses, I can lie completely flat while still being able to read and maintain supreme comfort, thanks to the geniusness of their prism lenses.

For the Physical Book Reader: Sprout Bookmarks

Polaroids, receipts, scraps of paper—you name it, and I’ve probably used it as a makeshift bookmark at some point. And while random objects around my house certainly work great as page-holders in a pinch, nothing compares to the convenience and cuteness of these sprout- and mushroom-shaped bookmarks. Join me in stocking up on these teeny-tiny fawn and fungi friends, which make for the most adorable gift for the reader in your life.

Most Popular Workouts in 2025

Spotify summarizes your entire year in playlists—so why can’t SELF do the same with wellness? Consider this your Wellness Wrapped: a look back at the workouts, daily habits, recovery rituals, and moments that shaped how we moved and took care of ourselves in 2025. From viral fitness races to the rise of low-impact everything, here’s what defined the year—and what it says about where we’re headed.

Your top workouts of the year

When it comes to spotting fitness trends, ClassPass has a front-row seat. With more than 40 million reservations booked globally this year, the platform’s 2025 Look Back Report data offers a clear picture of what workouts people actually showed up for.

Here were the top 10 workouts of 2025:

  1. Pilates
  2. Yoga
  3. Strength training
  4. Cycling
  5. Barre
  6. Gym time
  7. Boxing
  8. Dance
  9. Low-impact training
  10. Running

For the third year in a row, Pilates was the most-booked workout worldwide. The appeal is clear: a low-impact burn while building strength in muscles you probably didn’t know existed.

Yoga, strength training, and cycling also held strong as 2025 favorites, showing that people are committed to these tried-and-true foundations. But the rise of “less traditional” workouts (i.e., slow burn sculpt, hybrid endurance training, and mobility-focused classes), make this the year exercisers worked out smarter, not harder. Across platforms, we saw the same trend: Tonal’s 2025 State of Strength Report showed a major shift toward shorter, high-quality, personalized sessions designed to support long-term health over all-out grind. When it comes to movement, efficiency is in.

When you’re most likely to move (and when you’re not)

ClassPass data also revealed surprising patterns in when people prefer to sweat.

  • Most active month: March (New Year’s resolutions last longer than we give them credit for)
  • Most popular workout day: Tuesday
  • Peak workout times: 6 p.m. on weekdays, 10 a.m. on weekends

Lunch-hour classes saw a major jump too—reservations between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. increased 38% globally, suggesting that wellness and the “return-to-office era” are learning to coexist.

And of course, everyone loves (and needs!) a rest day. The most common times for cancelations and no-shows? Early mornings and immediately after work. On weekends, 6 a.m. was the most-canceled slot; on weekdays, it was 11 a.m.
