Is your scalp skin different from the rest of the body?

Your scalp is made up of 5 different layers with the last 3 acting as one. The rest of our skin is made up of 3 layers. Your scalp has more oil glands and has approximately 100,000 hair follicles. Just as the rest of your body, your scalp can get sunburned (always wear a hat) and have pimples.

Does scalp care effect your hair?

Definitely! A healthy scalp is a healthy head of hair.

How do you care for your scalp?

When I was in Bali, I had the best scalp massage with oil that I have every experienced. In my opinion, other cultures do a better job of caring for the scalp and hair than I do.

Before washing your hair, brush it so you can more easily rinse of accumulated debris. Wash from the top to the bottom. After washing, apply conditioner to the ends only. Try using a sulfate free shampoo and of course opt for organic certified.

So back to my scalp massage in Bali. That is one of the reasons I created Hair & Body Silk. I use it as a scalp and hair mask once a week. I massage into my scalp and hair and then I either wash afterwards or I sleep with it on as a mask and cleanse the following morning. A half of a teaspoon is all that I normally use for the entire head and hair. And the Hair & Body Silk is wonderful for putting on frizzy heads and all over the head for taming. So voila! Here’s to a healthy scalp!
