These BB Creams Are a Makeup Minimalist’s Dream

0

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between BB creams and CC creams?

“A BB cream, which usually stands for a beauty balm, is a multiuse product that acts as a primer, foundation, moisturizer, and sunscreen,” explains Los Angeles-based makeup artist Brandy Allen. In addition to hydrating and evening skin tones, BB creams treat your skin to hydrating, brightening, blemish-eviscerating, and fine-line-filling ingredients like antioxidant vitamin C, according to Dorman.

BB and CC creams are similar: Both have radiant finishes, moisturizing ingredients, and often, broad-spectrum sun protection—but they’re two different genres of product. According to our experts, CC creams are designed to color-correct (hence, CC = color correct) discoloration, redness, and sallowness, while BB creams “are a form of a lighter-weight foundation with skin-care benefits, usually light in coverage for a barely-there, ‘no-makeup’ look,” says makeup artist Tomy Rivero. BB creams are for low-maintenance, dewy coverage—in comparison, Scibelli says that CC creams are for neutralizing redness, covering sunspots, or smoothing uneven skin tone. “CC creams typically contain more pigment, for buildable coverage,” he adds.

How do I apply BB and CC creams?

As if BB creams and CC creams didn’t have enough benefits, both are also extremely easy to apply. Both Allen and Dorman agree that you can use just about any of your favorite tools to smooth these effortless formulas onto your skin—even your hands. “You can use a sponge, foundation brush, or your fingers, and gently dab the product for a natural, skin-like finish,” says Allen.

Meet the experts

How we test and review products

Before reviewing any makeup, we ask questions about a number of factors: What ingredients are in it? Does the brand offer a wide shade range inclusive of consumers with all skin tones and undertones? Is it safe for readers who have sensitive skin or wear contact lenses? Is it on the affordable side or more of a splurge? Is its packaging consciously designed or needlessly wasteful?

For our review of the best BB and CC creams, we enlisted the help of multiple editors, writers, contributors, and makeup artists to review the products. This ensures our testing base spans different skin tones, genders, and dermatological conditions. We considered each product’s performance across four primary categories: ingredients, wear and longevity, packaging, and inclusivity. For more on what’s involved in our reporting, check out our complete reviews process and methodology page.

Our staff and testers

A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine; you may simply be browsing around for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.

After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the “best” for people over 50 if the only testers we’ve solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it’s never been tested on curls? We’re proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.

Listening to Pink Noise Could Be Ruining Your Sleep

0

Still, there are likely other reasons behind pink noise’s link to disrupted sleep. While the researchers didn’t dive into that, Dr. Basner says pink noise “likely interacts with structures deep in the brain that are responsible for initiating and maintaining REM sleep.”

Any kind of sound during REM sleep has been shown to decrease how long you stay in REM sleep, Praveen Rudraraju, MD, medical director of the Center for Sleep Medicine at Northwell’s Northern Westchester and Phelps hospitals, tells SELF. However, he points out that factors like the type of noise, level of noise, and how long it lasts can play a role in how disruptive it ends up being. Meaning, it’s not shocking that people had the hardest time sleeping when they were exposed to aircraft noise.

The findings also have implications for other sleep sounds.

It’s easy to feel a little smug if you’re a diehard fan of white noise or ocean waves over the trendier pink noise. But doctors say these findings likely apply to all ambient sounds during sleep.

“White noise, pink noise…I don’t think that one is more dangerous than the other,” says W. Christopher Winter, MD, a neurologist and sleep medicine physician with Charlottesville Neurology and Sleep Medicine and host of the Sleep Unplugged podcast. “Silence is still best.”

Dr. Basner agrees. “It is likely that other types of broadband noise like white noise or brown noise have similar effects, but additional studies are needed to show this more conclusively,” he says.

But, of course, everyone is different. “Individuals are affected differently by noise, as responses vary from person to person,” Dr. Rudraraju says. “Some people require a quiet environment, and even minimal noise can disrupt their sleep quality. Others report benefits [of ambient noise]which may vary based on age group, clinical setting, and the specific characteristics of the noise.”

Doctors recommend skipping ambient noise, if you can.

“If you can do without it, do without it,” Dr. Winter says. “There’s nothing wrong with silence.” But there are a few caveats here. If you’re trying to sleep in a noisy place or your partner isn’t the quietest sleeper, Dr. Winter says that ambient noise may be helpful for sleep.

Supergoop! appoints Lauren Weinberg as new CMO to drive long-term growth

SPF-focused brand Supergoop! has named Lauren Weinberg as Chief Marketing Officereffective February 2, 2026

Ms. Weinberg joins Supergoop!’s executive leadership team to oversee brand, social and growth marketing, product innovation, creative, consumer insights, strategic partnerships, and communications as the company continues to lead the category in making everyday sun protection better, fun, inclusive and high-performing.

Lauren is a world-class marketing leader with a rare ability to balance creativity, performance, and operational rigor,” said Melis del Rey, Chief Executive Officer of Supergoop!. “As Supergoop! continues to grow and introduce millions of new consumers to SPF as a daily ritual, Lauren’s leadership will be instrumental in strengthening our brand, deepening consumer connection, and fueling long-term demand.

Ms. Weinberg brings more than two decades of experience leading transformation across some of the world’s most influential technology and consumer companies. Most recently, she served as Chief Marketing Officer at Peloton. Prior, she served as Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at Square, launching its first global brand campaign, and supporting major acquisitions including Weebly and Afterpay. Earlier in her career, Ms. Weinberg held senior leadership roles at Yahoo, MTV, AOL, Nielsen, and comScore.

I’ve been a loyal Supergoop! user for years, so this role feels personal,” said Ms. Weinberg. “The brand has done something extraordinary—it’s made daily SPF something people actually want to use, and that’s not a small thing when sunscreen is the one of the most effective ways to prevent skin cancer. I’m deeply grateful to Melis for this opportunity, and I’m excited to partner with the team to build on what’s already an incredible foundation.

In late November 2025, Supergoop! named Melis del Rey — formerly of Amazon Health & Beauty and Procter & Gamble — as CEO, succeeding interim CEO Gregory Polcer, who had held the role since May 2025.

What Beauty Advent Calendars would I recommend instead of La Mer?

As the La Mer Advent Calendar won’t be making a return this year, I’ve been turning my attention to some equally beautiful alternatives.

The Sisley Paris Advent Calendar is a true treat, with its luxurious skincare and fragrance minis that make each morning feel special.

Elemis always creates a stunning calendar packed with their spa-like skincare heroes—perfect for anyone who loves a pampering ritual.

The GAIA Skincare Advent Calendar offers a wonderfully soothing selection of natural, wellness-led products, bringing a calming moment to each day.

And the Clarins Advent Calendar is always a delight, filled with both skincare favourites and makeup must-haves.

Each of these brings that same sense of indulgence and anticipation that makes the countdown to Christmas so magical.

My Review of the La Mer Advent Calendar 2024

This has always been one of the most stalked calendars by the hard core La Mer fans. It comes in exclusive limited quantities and the design is always beautiful.

The first year it launched, it appeared online and sold out instantly, so if you managed to grab one, you were very lucky indeed! The execution is always superbly elegant and beautifully packaged. The ultimate treat.

I love that they have made this a regular thing because La Mer are there at the top of the tree when it comes to luxury! The 2024 edition was their sixth Beauty Advent Calendar and it was the best one yet in terms of value.

It was pricey but so so beautiful and an amazing way to stock up on La Mer essentials, or to discover your new obsession. Last year we got full sizes of the Lip Balm (which happens to be my ultimate lip balm) and also the very gorgeous Lip Scrub. They are a brilliant duo. Plus there were full sizes (15ml) of a range of La Mer moisturisers.

There Are Many Types of Obesity, Says This GLP-1 Expert

0

For decades, the world has watched Oprah Winfrey’s very public battle with her weight, as she yo-yoed between sizes, inspiring admiration with every pound she lost and ridicule when she gained it back. Winfrey, who has always spoken candidly about her weight and health struggles, says it wasn’t until recently that she felt liberated from toxic diet culture.

Part of her transformation was going on a GLP-1. But the other part was gaining insight into the science of obesity, in part, thanks to meeting Ania M. Jastreboff, MD, PhD, a physician-scientist and founding director of the Yale Obesity Research Center. The result is their new book, Enough: Your Health, Your Weight, and What It’s Like To Be Free, in which the two teamed up to provide some much-needed insight on how to reframe the conversation around obesity and the ever-expanding roster of drugs that can effectively treat the disease.

The book is at once an evidence-based guide and a poignant account of the heartbreak of navigating life in a world that views excess weight as moral failing and weakness. SELF spoke with Dr. Jastreboff about what science still needs to understand about obesity and GLP-1s and her powerful collaboration and friendship with Oprah. “I don’t know anybody else who has that much conviction and grit,” Dr. Jastreboff tells SELF.

SELF: In your book, you write that a person’s weight is determined by their “enough point.” What does that mean?

dr. Hawkeye: Eons ago, our bodies figured out that in order to survive, they had to store fuel. And the way that they store that fuel is as fat. So how does our body do this? How does it know how much fat to store? There are nutrient-stimulated hormones in the body, and they inform our brain, I’m hungry, I’m full, I’m storing this much energy, I’m storing this much fat. And then our brain sets the enough point.

So if that’s our beautiful biology, then why do nearly half of Americans have obesity? It’s because of the obesogenic environment, which has ultraprocessed food, lack of sleep, lack of physical activity, lots of stress, and medications that cause weight gain as a side effect. And all of these different things push up the enough point on a population level, meaning that most people are carrying or storing more fat than is healthy or needed. How we think [GLP-1s] work is that they recalibrate and lower the enough point. As your enough point is lowered, the weight follows.

Why Taylor Swift Skipped This Year’s Grammys

0

Sorry to disappoint, Swifties: Taylor Swift did not attend the 2026 Grammys.

Yep, our favourite blonde skipped the red carpet, which means no outfit pics to obsess over or Easter eggs to decode — sob.

Over the years, Swift has been a regular Grammys fixture, using the big night to flash a bejewelled “T” on her thigh (swoon), announce albums, and drop sneaky hints for fans — sometimes even teasing entire eras before anyone else knew they were coming.

So yes, it’s heartbreaking to confirm: she did not join fellow celebs Billie Eilish, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chappell Roan this year. Still, the question remains on everyone’s lips: why didn’t Taylor Swift attend the 2026 Grammys?

The real reason Taylor Swift skipped the Grammys this year

The “Opalite” singer has been lying low — and planning her wedding to Travis Kelce — ever since the release of her sparkling orange 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl.

Swift was not nominated for any awards this year. But lower your pitchforks: she wasn’t snubbed, and The Life of a Showgirl wasn’t bypassed. It simply wasn’t eligible.

The album dropped on October 3, 2025 — just outside the Recording Academy’s eligibility window for the 2026 Grammys. That means it won’t be up for consideration until the 2027 awards, where we fully expect Swift to slay.

Could “Fate of Ophelia” snag Record of the Year? Maybe even an Album of the Year nod? Fingers crossed.

Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/Getty Images

Fans speculated online that Swift might attend the ceremony anyway, and possibly present or perform, but Grammys executive producer Ben Winston confirmed last month that there were no official plans for her to appear.

In short, the real reason Swift didn’t attend is simple: she had no reason to. No nomination, no performance, no red carpet stroll.

She’s still our Grammys icon

Throughout her career, Swift has received a whopping 58 Grammy nominations and taken home 14 awards. She also holds the record for the most nominations for Song of the Year, with a total of nine nods.

Postpartum Massage Near Me: How to Know It’s Right

0

Searching postpartum massage near me is usually not about luxury. It’s about relief. After pregnancy and birth, your body can feel like it’s doing ten jobs at once: feeding, carrying, rocking, bending, lifting, and trying to recover on very little sleep. Neck and shoulder tension becomes normal. Lower back tightness shows up out of nowhere. Hips feel “off.” And the stress sits in your body even when you’re trying to rest.

A good postpartum massage can help, but not every massage therapist is trained for postpartum bodies, and not every spa environment is set up for what you actually need right now. Here’s how to choose a postpartum massage near me and know it’s right before you even walk in.

1. Start by picking the outcome you want

When you search postpartum massage near me, the best option depends on what’s bothering you most. Before you book, decide your main goal:

  • Upper body relief: neck, shoulders, upper back, jaw tension
  • Lower back and hips: soreness, tight glutes, hip imbalance
  • Swelling and heaviness: legs feel puffy, body feels sluggish
  • Stress and sleep: you want a nervous-system reset
  • Recovery support: you want your body to feel more “together” again

The “right” postpartum massage near me is the one that targets your main problem, not a generic full-body routine that barely touches the areas that hurt.

2. The biggest sign it’s a real postpartum massage, not a rebranded regular massage

A proper postpartum massage near me should start with questions. If they do not ask anything and just point you to the room, that’s a red flag.

They should ask things like:

  • How long postpartum are you?
  • How are you feeling physically right now?
  • Any C-section, complications, swelling, or pain areas?
  • Are you breastfeeding (chest/shoulder tension is common)?
  • What positions are comfortable for you today?

Postpartum bodies change fast. A good provider treats you like an individual, not a template.

3. Look for postpartum-friendly positioning (this matters more than people think)

One of the biggest reasons a postpartum massage near me feels “wrong” is discomfort during the session. If your body is still tender, your core feels weak, or you’re dealing with breast tenderness, lying flat for a long time can be miserable.

The right place should offer:

  • Side-lying support (pillows, bolsters, positioning options)
  • Adjustable pressure without you having to fight for it
  • Comfort-first pacing that helps your body relax instead of brace

If they cannot accommodate positioning, keep searching. Comfort is not optional postpartum.

Know the difference between “deep” and “helpful” pressure

4. Know the difference between “deep” and “helpful” pressure

A common mistake when booking postpartum massage near me is assuming deeper pressure equals better results. Postpartum recovery is not the moment to force your body through pain. You want effective work that releases tension, not intensity for the sake of intensity.

Helpful pressure should feel like relief. If you are holding your breath, tensing your legs, or bracing your shoulders, it’s too much. The best therapists can work deeply without making you feel punished.

5. Choose the right style of massage for postpartum needs

Not all massage styles support postpartum recovery the same way. Here’s a simple breakdown:

  • Therapeutic massage: best for shoulders, neck, back, hip tightness, and posture-related pain.
  • Gentle relaxation massage: best if stress and sleep are your main issues and your body feels overstimulated.
  • Lymphatic-style massage: best if you feel puffy, heavy, or swollen and want that “lighter” feeling afterward.

When you call or book online, use your goal as your request. “I need my shoulders and upper back addressed from feeding posture” gets you better results than “I want a massage.”

6. What to ask before booking a postpartum massage near me

These questions will tell you fast if the place is actually equipped for postpartum care:

  • Do you offer postpartum-specific massage?
  • How do you support positioning and comfort postpartum?
  • Can the therapist focus on shoulders, neck, hips, and lower back?
  • How do you adjust pressure for postpartum bodies?
  • Do you have experience with clients after C-section (if relevant)?

If they sound annoyed, vague, or dismissive, that tells you everything.

What to expect after a good postpartum massage

7. What to expect after a good postpartum massage

After the right postpartum massage near me, most people notice:

  • less shoulder and neck tension
  • lower back and hips feel looser
  • less heaviness in the body
  • a calmer mood and easier sleep that night

You may also feel emotional. That’s normal. When the body finally relaxes, it can release stress you’ve been holding for weeks.

8. A simple booking schedule that’s realistic

Postpartum life is unpredictable, so the “best” schedule is one you can actually maintain.

  • For active tension and discomfort: weekly for a short period if possible
  • For maintenance: every 2 to 4 weeks
  • If time is tight: once a month still helps, especially if the session is targeted

Final thoughts

The best way to choose a postpartum massage near me is to book based on your goal, pick a provider who asks the right questions, and make sure comfort and positioning are built into the experience. A good postpartum massage should leave you feeling supported, lighter, and more like yourself again, not sore and overwhelmed.

Sunk Cost Fallacy: The Relationship Mistake That Keeps People Stuck for Years

0

Leaving is often made harder by other cultural messages that mistake endurance with valor. “Many people have internalized the belief that staying, regardless of emotional cost, is a marker of their individual loyalty or strength,” says Pataky. As such, breaking up after many years can then feel like a personal failure.

Taken together, these beliefs can make it very difficult to ask the more meaningful question about the relationship—such as whether the relationship is still nourishing who they are today—let alone exit it.

The real costs of staying past the point of alignment

Ending a long-term relationship can feel like “throwing away” years of time and effort. But being in a relationship that no longer feels aligned with who you are and what you want can come at the cost of your mental and emotional well-being.

“Staying in a relationship primarily because of what you’ve already sunk into it requires ongoing self-betrayal,” says Pataky. Over time, suppressing your needs, emotions, and inner truth can erode self-trust and self-worth—both of which are foundational to mental health. That misalignment between internal experience (wanting to leave) and external reality (not leaving) can also show up as anxiety, depression, emotional numbing, or burnout, she says.

Unsatisfactory relationships can become more draining over time, says Heather Shannon, LCPC, CST, a licensed professional counselor, AASECT-certified sex therapist, and host of the Ask a Sex Therapist podcast. Stress and resentment often builds within relationships driven by sunk cost thinking, which increases within the relationship. Living in this state of heightened strain can lead people to feel irritable, trapped, and even hopeless, she says.

What else keeps people in sunk cost relationships?

Beyond sunk cost thinking, there are very real emotional, financial, and/or logistical factors that can make cutting off a relationship complicated.

On the emotional front, even if you recognize your relationship has passed its expiration, “leaving can feel destabilizing,” says Hertz. It often involves confronting feelings of loss, ambiguity, and grief, which all needed to be attended to, she says.

Armani Luminous Silk Foundation – New Formula

0

Armani recently reformulated their cult classic Luminous Silk Foundation ($69, Nordstrom and Sephora). As a longtime fan of the original I have to admit I was in a panic over the news and purchased a few backups just in case the new one ended up being completely different. After nearly a month of testing I am happy to report the new version is just as good as the original and my shade match 6.5 is still the same.

Armani added more shades in the lineup and changed the formula to include niacinamide. The two formulas are almost identical on my skin. You can see a demo of the new formula in action here with the Hourglass Vanish Foundation Brush. In my experience there is a slight difference in the coverage with the new one being just the slightest bit thinner and a bit sheerer, but the differences are barely detectable. A few of you noticed from my video though that the new one seems to have a little less pigment.

Armani Luminous Silk Foundation new formula review Shade 6.5

Armani Luminous Silk Foundation new formula review Shade 6.5

Coverage is still the same medium naturally glowy finish. I love that it glows but isn’t too emollient/dewy. It evens out the skin nicely in a natural looking way. Coverage is still natural so your skin does show through and I have a few dark spots (healing acne scars) that still show through underneath on my chin area. This can be fixed with concealer (I like Natasha Denona’s Hy-Glam Concealer for the best coverage with a creamy formula). I always set with a powder and lately I’ve been loving the Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre Loose Powder Shade 30 or Laura Mercier Translucent Loose (love this in multiple shades, the Rose Talc-Free Ultra Blur Version is also good too).

Most of the shades seem to be the same but there are a handful that have changed. They have a helpful shade chart to show which shades are different and the new recommended match (Shades 1.5, 4.25, 4.75, 7.5, 7.75 and 8 are different now).

Armani Luminous Silk Foundation new formula review Shade 6.5

Overall really love. It is really similar to the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation (I wear BD41), but the Armani has a lighter feel in texture and finish. I think it’s also a little less emollient than the Victoria Beckham Beauty Foundation Drops (I have Shades 7 and 8).

You can find this out now at Nordstrom, Sephora, Bloomingdale’s and all Armani Beauty counters.
