Burr Basket ideas for the holidays

0

You have probably seen the boo basket that went viral on social media – have you heard of the burr basket? I have always been a fan of making baskets and love to go all out on gift giving. It’s so much fun for me and I love making baskets. I am excited that it has become a trend creating a basket beyond birthdays – for just because. I love seeing the cute ideas for every season – it’s a great way to surprise and delight.

Decorating the boo basket

This is my favorite part! First, let’s start off with the base – the basket! You can think outside of normal wicker basket. You can use a box, bag or even a laundry basket. I have even used a laundry basket to make a gift basket because it allow me to load up even more.

Tips on decorating the boo basket

Create a fun experience to decorate the basket to match the theme to create a more fun experience for the giver and recipient. I created a photo collage around the box and they put the box on a shelf for memories. One of my favorite ways to add a touch of color is to have a letter of their first name with a ribbon attached to each side and wrapped around the basket.

Surebonder to hold the decorations together

These glue sticks can be used to keep your crafts together to ensure your basket doesn’t fall apart. You can glue photos, art and other decorative materials with the Surebonder hot glue gun. In addition, the surebonder hot glue gun and hot glue sticks would make a perfect addition for those that love arts and crafts.

What to include in the burr basket

good things to put in a burr basket

Winter is the theme – think of warmth and cozy. What are good items that the recipient would love to keep warm? Christmas is around the corner so you can do a cute Christmas theme. Other options are winter or to cater around their interests.

Cozy ideas for the burr basket – what to put into burr baskets

  • Hats
  • Gloves
  • Scarves
  • Hand warmers
  • Blanket
  • Heated blanket
  • Heating pad
  • Sweater
  • Hot cocoa
  • Coffee
  • Renpho eye massager

Other items that can be included can be used that would cater to the theme you are trying to create.

Burr Basket Fillers

  • Cups, mugs, or thermos
  • Photo frames or albums
  • Jewelry
  • Makeup
  • Fragrance
  • Toys
  • Gift cards
  • Their favorite treats
  • Customized gifts
  • Photo albums or other photos

There are so many cute holiday cups and decorations to create a festive theme, or you can get a mug of their favorite character.

By Artis would be a perfect idea when trying to match a theme. Their brushes comes in several different color choices. The Swarovski collection in the Elite Oval 7 adds a touch of expression with their two design choices. I am adoring the bow design out of the two designs. The elite 7 oval Swarovski collection comes in two colors: a stunning blue to match the winter theme and black. The Elite Oval 7 allows you to choose from several shades making it easy to find their favorite color.

Remember have fun

Makeup and Beauty Blog Monday Poll, Vol. 897

0

So…what is the Monday Poll?

Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).

1. Something you do to help make your makeup routine a little easier when you’re getting ready?

I keep a small bag within my regular makeup bag filled with the barest of the bare essentials. Now that I see that in writing it seems a little crazy, LOL! But yeah, having a super pared down mini bag helps a ton. Inside it I have brow pencil, mascara, undereye concealer and a cream blush that doubles as a lipstick.

2. When it’s rainy outside, how do you typically do your hair?

I don’t even bother, really. I run a brush through it and throw it in a bun or a ponytail.

3. What’s your favorite fall lip color?

Matte red, baby!

4. What’s the newest thing in your makeup bag?

I bought a waterproof mascara by Maybelline that’s $5 on the recommendation of a tv/red carpet makeup artist who said she’d been using it for years. We’ll see if it’s any good!

5. Something you love about fall beauty?

Dark, short, shiny nails. I think they look chic!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

My Review of Shiseido Synchro Skin Radiant Lifting Concealer

My Review of Shiseido Synchro Skin Radiant Lifting Concealer
My Review of Shiseido Synchro Skin Radiant Lifting Concealer

If, like me, you were heartbroken when Shiseido discontinued their brilliant stick concealer, this new launch will absolutely make your day.

I am a huge fan of the Shiseido Synchro Skin Radiant Lifting Foundation (which got an amazing upgrade last year – read my full review here), and it’s one I always recommend to people if they want long lasting, buildable coverage, with a finish that not to dewy and not too matte.

Why Shiseido Launched a New Concealer

When I first noticed that Shiseido had discontined their stick concealer, I was genuinely so sad. It was excellent – creamy, long-lasting, and effortlessly flattering. But now it all makes sense! This new stick formula joins the Synchro Skin Radiant Lifting family, and it’s every bit as lovely as the original. The bonus is that it’s had a skincare upgrade.

The texture is ultra-creamy and literally glides onto the skin with the lightest touch. I love how this goes on – you can’t over apply it and it feels amazing. It is smooth, hydrating, and weightless, and it blends out like an absolute dream.

Application, Coverage & Finish

This concealer has that gorgeous, creamy slip that I loved in the original stick formula. It glides on so easily with no dragging or tugging, and it instantly makes my skin look smoother and fresher.

The coverage is described as medium-to-full and buildable, but in my experience, it’s not what I’d call full coverage, and honestly, I love that. It conceals and enhances rather than masking the skin completely, so the complexion still looks beautifully natural and radiant. You can layer it for a bit more payoff, but the skin always shows through, keeping the finish really fresh and real.

If I have something more stubborn that needs extra coverage, I’d still reach for my other favourite, the Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer Stick* (I use shade Ivory), which gives a more opaque, perfected finish. But for day-to-day brightness and that lifted, healthy look, the Shiseido Synchro Skin Radiant Lifting Concealer is absolutely gorgeous.

The finish is luminous but never shiny, and it wears beautifully throughout the day without creasing or settling. It pairs perfectly with the Shiseido Synchro Skin Radiant Lifting Foundation for that seamless, skin-like glow.

Shades & Range

The Shiseido Synchro Skin Radiant Lifting Concealer is available in 16 shades, designed to complement the foundation range. There’s a good balance of undertones, neutral, warm (golden), and cool (rose), so it’s fairly easy to find a match whether you want to brighten or blend seamlessly into your skin tone.

My Shade Matches

Shiseido Synchro Skin Radiant Lifting Concealer Shades
Shiseido Synchro Skin Radiant Lifting Concealer Shades

I think 202 is my best all over match, and 203 is pretty good on my hyperpigmentation. If I want to go bright under my eyes, 201 is good, but I think that 202 looks better and more natural. To see all these shades in action, check out my video above.

Final Thoughts

I’m honestly thrilled with this new concealer. The texture, finish, and performance are all spot-on, and it feels like a modern, elevated way to perfect the skin.

It’s super easy to use and really helps to keep the skin looking natural and fresh.

Where to buy it

Fashion Glamour Meets Bought Out Culture

On Vogue World and the Bought Out Culture

The latest edition of Vogue World Hollywood 2025 just took place, and wow — it was a dazzling mix of film set glamour, fashion forward looks, and a very real peek behind the curtain of what I like to call the “bought out culture” of the fashion world. If you’re curious about how fashion events are evolving, how money, branding, and influence are all wrapped up in high style — let’s dive in.

The Scene at Vogue World

Vogue World Hollywood was held at the iconic Paramount Studios Lot in Los Angeles on October 26, 2025. The event transformed the lot into a runway playground. Massive models, A list celebs, even original film costumes made an appearance. The vibe was part silver screen, part fashion week, part theme park ride.

What I Mean by “Bought Out Culture”

I’m using “bought out culture” to describe how fashion events (and fashion in general) can feel like everything is literally for sale — from the sponsorships to the product placements, from the “influence” of celebrity attendees to the way big labels show up. At Vogue World we saw:

  • Brands stepping in not only as sponsors but as creators of narrative
  • Celebrity power dominating the runway and red carpet, making it less about raw design and more about brand value
  • The spectacle of fashion fused with film and music — which is awesome, but also points to the bigger business machine at work

How Vogue World Reflects That Culture

This edition didn’t shy away from the spectacle or the commerce behind it. For example:

  • Proceeds of the night go to charity (great!), but the event itself is ultra high glam and high stake
  • The fashion looked like costumes, and the costumes looked like fashion. The line between artistic expression and branding gets fuzzier
  • Every outfit photographed, every red carpet moment uploaded, becomes a marketing moment. The event becomes less about design alone and more about visibility, buzz, influence

The Good and the Questionable

Let’s keep it real: there’s a lot to love. Vogue World brought creativity, community, and spectacle. It raised money for costume professionals impacted by wildfires. It gave film fashion mashups we didn’t know we needed. But:

Pros:

  • Inspired creativity by blending film and fashion in fun ways
  • Charitable angle shows fashion can do social good when major resources align
  • A platform for bold visuals, strong statements, and global attention

Cons or Questions:

  • When every look is high budget, every brand inspected, does it become less accessible? That’s part of the bought out culture: luxury, exclusive, expensive
  • When the event is as much about celebrity and influence as design, does it diminish emerging designers who don’t have the same brand muscle?
  • Does the spectacle overshadow the craftsmanship or message of the clothes? If fashion is art, but treated like product placement, it can feel diluted

Even if you’re not a front row fashion attendee, the bought out culture at Vogue World matters in everyday wear and consumption. Because:

  • This event sets trends and signals what luxury brands will push next
  • It shapes what fashion success looks like: big name plus big budget plus big brand equals status
  • It reflects a shift: clothes as content, fashion shows as entertainment. So when you buy something, you’re buying more than fabric — you’re buying a narrative

I love what Vogue World did this year — the spectacle, the ambition, the blending of mediums. But I also feel a mild pang of skepticism. Because when the lens is so focused on brand and influence, you risk losing some of the authenticity or the everyday meaning of fashion. The bought out culture isn’t bad per se — it’s just something to be aware of. It means we should ask: who’s creating the clothes, why are we drawn to them, and what does fashion success really look like?

Vogue World Hollywood 2025 had it all — glitz, glamour, star power, festive runway magic. But behind the camera flashes and the red carpet smiles, there’s a culture of commerce and influence that underpins it. The event was fun, the looks were stunning, the message charitable — and yet, the bought out culture whispers look how big, look how branded. If we spot it, we’re better dressed in the world of fashion than just those front row seats.

5 Problems a Vitamin C Face Wash Can Solve | Joanna Vargas

0

Tired of a bathroom cabinet overflowing with products that only do one thing? What if the first step in your routine – cleansing – could do more than just wash away the day? Enter the vitamin C face washa powerhouse cleanser that tackles some of the most common and frustrating skin concerns.

This isn’t just about getting your skin clean. It’s about infusing it with one of the most effective, science-backed ingredients in skincare from the very start. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that brightens, protects, and rejuvenates. By incorporating it into your daily face wash, you’re not just cleansing; you’re actively treating your skin. Let’s explore 5 key skin problems that this skincare staple can help resolve.

Key Takeaways

  • Brightens Dull Skin: Vitamin C combats dullness by gently exfoliating and inhibiting excess pigment production, revealing a more radiant complexion.

  • Evens Skin Tone: It effectively fades the appearance of dark spots, sun spots, and post-acne marks for a more uniform look.

  • Fights Signs of Aging: It’s essential for collagen synthesis, helping to plump fine lines and improve skin firmness with consistent use.

  • Provides Antioxidant Protection: As a powerful antioxidant, it neutralizes free radicals from pollution and UV exposure, shielding your skin from daily damage.

  • Soothes Inflammation: Its anti-inflammatory properties help to calm redness and irritation, making it beneficial for sensitive or acne-prone skin.

1. The Problem: Dull, Lackluster Skin

One of the most common complaints is skin that looks tired, flat, and has lost its natural glow. This dullness is often caused by an accumulation of dead skin cells and environmental aggressors that sap your skin’s vitality.

Boost Radiance Naturally

Vitamin C is a master at reviving tired skin. Its primary weapon against dullness is its ability to inhibit tyrosinasean enzyme responsible for melanin production. By gently regulating this process, it helps to fade dullness and reveal the brighter, more luminous skin underneath.

Its mild exfoliating properties help to slough off dead skin cells that can accumulate and scatter light, instantly making your complexion look more radiant and refreshed. Starting your day with a vitamin C cleanser is like a glass of orange juice for your face – an immediate, energizing pick-me-up.

2. The Problem: Uneven Skin Tone and Dark Spots

Whether from sun exposure, hormonal changes, or post-acne marks, hyperpigmentation can be a stubborn issue. These dark spots and patches of discoloration create an uneven skin tone that can be difficult to conceal.

a natural brashener

This is where vitamin C’s role as a tyrosinase inhibitor truly shines. By slowing down melanin production in hyperactive areas, a vitamin C face wash helps to:

  • Fade existing dark spots: With consistent use, it can lighten the appearance of sun spots, age spots, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

  • Prevent new spots from forming: Its antioxidant properties protect the skin from the sun damage that often triggers hyperpigmentation in the first place.

  • Promote an even complexion: Over time, it helps to balance your overall skin tone, leaving you with a more uniform and clearer canvas.

3. The Problem: The First Signs of Aging

Fine lines, wrinkles, and a loss of firmness are the natural result of declining collagen levels in our skin as we age. Collagen is the protein that provides skin with its structure and elasticity, and its depletion leads to visible signs of aging.

A Collagen Kick-Starter

Vitamin C is essential for collagen synthesis. It acts as a crucial cofactor for the enzymes that stabilize and link collagen molecules. By using a vitamin C face wash, you are topically delivering a key building block that encourages your skin to produce more of this vital protein. This helps to:

  • Plump fine lines: Increased collagen helps to firm the skin from within, softening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

  • Improve elasticity: With a stronger support structure, the skin regains some of its bounce and resilience.

  • Promote a youthful texture: The overall texture of the skin becomes smoother and more refined.

4. The Problem: Environmental Damage

Every day, your skin is under attack from environmental stressors like UV radiation, pollution, and free radicals. These unstable molecules cause oxidative stress, which breaks down skin cells, accelerates aging, and damages your skin’s natural barrier.

A Protective Shield

Vitamin C is one of the most powerful antioxidants available in skincare. Think of it as a shield for your skin cells. It works by neutralizing free radicals before they can cause harm. Incorporating an antioxidant-rich cleanser into your routine, especially in the morning, provides a crucial first line of defense against the daily environmental assault, helping to keep your skin healthy and resilient.

5. The Problem: Inflammation and Redness

Inflammation is at the root of many skin issues, from acne breakouts to general sensitivity and redness. Calming this inflammation is key to achieving clear, comfortable skin.

A Soothing Agent

While often thought of as an active, potent ingredient, vitamin C also has significant anti-inflammatory properties. It can help to soothe the skin, reduce redness, and accelerate the healing process. For those with acne-prone skin, this is a major benefit. A vitamin C face wash can help to:

  • Calm active breakouts: It reduces the redness and swelling associated with pimples.

  • Aid in healing: By supporting skin health and fighting inflammation, it can help post-acne marks fade more quickly.

  • Reduce general redness: It can help soothe skin sensitized by environmental factors.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Cleanser

To maximize the benefits, gently massage the vitamin C face wash onto damp skin for a full 60 seconds. This allows the active ingredient enough contact time to work its magic before you rinse it away. For a complete routine, follow up with a vitamin C serum, moisturizer, and, most importantly, a broad-spectrum sunscreen in the morning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use a vitamin C face wash every day?

A: Absolutely. They are formulated for daily use, both morning and night. Using it in the morning is especially beneficial for its antioxidant properties, which protect your skin throughout the day.

Q: Will vitamin C make my skin more sensitive to the sun?

A: This is a common myth. Vitamin C does not make your skin more sun-sensitive. In fact, its antioxidant nature helps protect against UV damage. However, you should always wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen as the final step in your morning routine, regardless of the other products you use.

Q: What skin type is a vitamin C face wash best for?

A: It’s suitable for most skin types. It’s particularly great for those with dull, uneven, or mature skin. If you have extremely sensitive skin or rosacea, it’s always wise to patch-test a new product first.

Q: How long does it take to see results?

A: You may notice an immediate boost in radiance after cleansing. However, more significant results, like the fading of dark spots and improved firmness, typically take 4 to 8 weeks of consistent daily use.

Q: Can I use a vitamin C cleanser with other active ingredients like retinol or AHAs?

A: Yes. Since a cleanser is a “short contact” product that gets washed off, it’s generally safe to use within a routine that includes other actives. It’s less likely to cause irritation than a leave-on vitamin C serum combined with other potent ingredients.

What Your Skin Needs Now

0

Smoothing and soothing are technically skincare opposites. And opposites attract. Here’s how I combine the two for best results.

When it comes to my own skincare efforts, smoothing almost always comes before soothing. My skin isn’t naturally sensitive, so I gravitate toward gentle, supportive formulas mainly as backup because I’m typically chasing brightness, clarity, and a more refined texture with acids and retinoids. But even the most carefully calculated routines can backfire. So a soothing arsenal is always helpful.

Every misadventure with actives (and there have been many) calls for a reset: fewer steps, gentler formulas, and a focus on barrier repair. Calming and anti-inflammatory ingredients become essential when skin is red, tight, or on the verge of rebellion.

Below, I’m breaking down how I approach both smoothing and soothing skincare. How to layer, when to pause, and why the combination often leads to skin that feels not just smooth or soft, but actually comfortable.

smoothing

I’m no dermatologist but allow me to make a broadswept statement: resurfacing steps belong in your nighttime routine. Most smoothing ingredients increase photosensitivity, and skin does its best repair work while you sleep. It’s also the time when your barrier is most receptive to the kind of actives that make a visible difference.

ReVive retexturizing night cream for glowing skin.

That doesn’t mean you need to throw the entire acid aisle into your cart. Start with one or two formulas, ease them in, and listen to your skin. If your cleanser exfoliates, maybe skip the glycolic toner. If your moisturizer contains retinol, keep everything else as simple as possible.

My general rule: never resurface in multiple steps. If I’m using a rinse-off exfoliant, I will follow it with a balancing formula. Also, no exfoliants before retinol.

Key ingredients to focus on:

alpha hydroxy acids (glycolic, lactic, malic, mandelic), salicylic acid (BHA), polyhydroxy acids (PHAs), fruit enzymes (papaya, pineapple, cranberry), azelaic acid, tranexamic acid, retinol, peptides

tried, tested, and worth your time

Dermalogica Milkfoliant powder cleanser

Dermalogica Daily Milkfoliant

If exfoliation makes you nervous, start here. As someone who used the brand’s iconic Microfoliant for years, I was pleasantly surprised when the gentler and creamier Milkfoliant launched. It’s been a staple ever since. The powder blend includes coconut milk, oat bran, AHA and BHA acids, plus papaya enzymes. I love it as a morning cleanser. It smooths, brightens, and never strips.

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid face toner.

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution

I’m not a The Ordinary superfan, but this toner is undeniably good. Simple, alcohol-free, and incredibly effective, the 7% glycolic acid helps smooth texture and even tone with consistent use. It’s a great entry point for acid toners and one of the best deals out there.

Paula's Choice most potent exfoliator.

Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 25% AHA + 2% BHA Treatment

Not for the faint of heart, this rinse-off treatment tackles texture, dark spots, and enlarged pores with a potent cocktail of multi-acids. Expect a brief tingling sensation, totally normal. My advice: apply to clean skin, rinse after 10 minutes, and avoid layering other actives that day. Don’t forget SPF the next morning.

$45 (30ml) at paulaschoice.com or sephora.com

Dr. Loretta enzyme polish for smooth skin

Dr. Loretta Resurfacing Enzyme Polish

I firmly believe some skin types benefit from the occasional physical exfoliant. Mine definitely does. This textured polish blends natural exfoliating particles with pomegranate enzyme for instant smoothness. Massage onto damp skin, leave on for 10 minutes, rinse, and marvel. Gentle, effective, and satisfying.

Allies of Skin retinal treatment for blotchy skin

Allies of Skin Retinal & Peptides Overnight Treatment

Allies of Skin can be overwhelming, but if you’re looking for a high-performance retinoid that won’t annihilate your skin barrier, this is the one. Retinala step up from retinol, meets peptides, ceramides, and antioxidants in a formula that transforms with time. It’s strong, so take it slow. After two months, the results speak for themselves.

ReVive cult classic moisturizer.

RéVive Moisturizing Renewal Cream

Legendary, and for good reason. This creamy overnight treatment blends glycolic acid with the brand’s signature Bio-Renewal Peptide to deliver firmer, more radiant skin by morning. It’s intense and not for beginners. I tried it too early in life and learned that lesson fast. Now in my proper age bracket, it’s one of my longest-running staples.

$195 (50ml) at reviveskincare.com and dermstore.com (try code OMGBART for 15% off)

soothing

This is the part I never skip after an overzealous exfoliation night, a long flight, or a stretch of too many glasses of wine and too little sleep. It’s also where I pair smoothing and soothing strategically. For example, after a gentle micro-polish, I follow with a ceramide-rich serum to cushion and support the barrier.

The products below also work as a great framework if your skin runs sensitive year-round or if you’re just trying to fortify your routine during colder months. I’m leaving out sunscreens, since texture and filter preferences are so personal and deserve their own post.

Soothing milky essence from Korean brand Haruharu.

When my skin feels compromised, my mantra is less is more. And by “more,” I mean moisturizing. No actives, no extras. Just cleanse and moisturize. It’s surprisingly effective.

Also, skip niacinamide when your skin is red or reactive. While it’s generally beneficial, it can be too much in the wrong moment. The same goes for retinoids. Moisturizer only. You’ll wake up with better feeling (and looking) skin.

And just to be clear, your moisturizer should never make your skin tingle, burn, or feel tight. If it does, it’s not working. It’s working against you. The right formula should comfort your skin instantly, not test its tolerance.

Speaking of moisturizers… Below, I am making 3 recommendations. This means you pick one if you’re so inclined. There is no need to get and layer all of them.

Lastly, this is one of the rare times I’ll suggest skipping fragrance altogether. I’m not a fragrance basher. In fact, I usually love a little scent in skincare. But when your barrier is compromised, even the most elegant aroma can complicate things further. Go unscented until things calm down.

Key ingredients to focus on:

colloidal oatmeal, ceramides, ectoin, panthenol (vitamin B5), beta-glucan, squalane, cica (including madecassoside), calendula, aloe, chamomile, bisabolol, allantoin, zinc

soothing skincare I’ve come to rely on

Glow Recipe avocado cleanser for dry and sensitive skin

Glow Recipe Ceramide Moisture Barrier Cleanser

I’ve been around for every Glow Recipe launch since the brand’s inception, and this might be my all-time favorite. The texture update makes dispensing much easier, but it still lathers beautifully and cleanses thoroughly without stripping. It also leaves skin feeling soft, calm, and bouncy.

$28 (150ml) at glowrecipe.com and sephora.com

Haruharu black rice essence for dry skin

Haruharu Black Rice Probiotics Barrier Essence

I went through a serious phase with the Black Rice hydrating toner, but lately it’s all about this milky probiotic upgrade. More than a toner, the creamy yet weightless formula soothes instantly and absorbs effortlessly. No sticky residue, unlike The Ordinary’s attempt, which I wanted to love but just couldn’t. This one’s a quiet overachiever.

$25 (120ml) at amazon.com or stylevana.com

Aestura serum for compromised skin

AESTURA ATOBARRIER365 Serum

K-Beauty, dermatologist edition. This gentle serum blends ceramides, fatty acids, and hyaluronic acid with a subtle dose of vitamin C and niacinamide for glow. Lightweight but deeply reparative, it’s perfect for calming stressed skin without sacrificing radiance.

Drunk Elephant eye cream for very dry skin

Drunk Elephant Ceramighty AF Eye Balm

There’s nothing worse than irritated skin around the eyes. This is why I keep Ceramighty AF on standby. It’s rich but never greasy and instantly restores peace in that super-delicate zone. Packed with nourishing ingredients, it visibly reduces redness and provides instant (and much appreciated) relief.

Skinfix serum with ectoin and exosomes.

Skinfix Exo + Ectoin Intensive Repair Baume

A serum-balm hybrid that deserves your full attention. Loaded with peptides, squalane, exosomes, and calming plant extracts, it wraps your skin in a reparative cocoon. If your skin feels overwhelmed by anti-aging efforts, Skinfix is the reset button. I’ve always loved their foaming oil cleanser, but the moisturizers are just as impressive.

Medik8 moisturizer for sensitive skin

Medik8 Total Moisture Daily Facial Cream

The Goldilocks of moisturizersespecially if your skin needs the most but can handle the least. Medik8 is known for innovative retinol, but this moisture-first formula stands out. It’s infused with probiotic peptides, ceramides, lipids, and hyaluronic acid. Absorbs like a dream, plays well both day and night, and never feels heavy.

Kiehl's moisturizer for barrier repair.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Advanced Repair Barrier Cream

Possibly the biggest sleeper hit in the Kiehl’s lineup, this barrier cream is phenomenal. Thick but not greasy, it glides on easily and delivers instant comfort. The no-fuss tube packaging makes it ideal for travel, and yes, it’s one of the most-used moisturizers in my borderline ridiculous stash.

A Little Note from Mem and Yes, I’m Biased (But For Good Reason!)

I know I’m obviously biased. REESON is my own brand, after all, but I can honestly say, hand on heart, that I truly believe these products are the best out there. I’ve spent years testing, tweaking, and perfecting every formula, and everything in the range has been designed with real skin in mind, my real skin, to be exact!

At 51my skin wants glow, hydration, and comfort, but it also needs formulas that don’t settle, cling, or feel heavy. REESON gives me all of that and more. Every time I use the Bronzing Balm or pop on a Glossing Balm, I feel like the best version of myself. That’s exactly why I created REESON – to give us makeup that makes us feel good, not just look good.

So yes, I’m biased… but genuinely, I wouldn’t put my name to it if I didn’t believe it’s the very best.

Shattered Glass Star Gel Nails | Chalkboard Nails

0

If you’ve been around the world of nails lately, you know that shattered glass nails are still going strong! Even amongst the sea of chrome and unicorn holo, I still see shattered glass effects being incorporated into manicures.

The basic idea of shattered glass nails involves putting shards of iridescent cellophane, origami paper, or reflective tape on your nail to create a unique and eye catching glass look. Here’s a slightly different look that I did with the style!

Glass Star nails by @chalkboardnails

Here’s how to get the look for yourself in gel:

  1. Use a star-shaped hole punch to punch stars out of hula hoop tape
  2. Apply gel base coat, cure
  3. Apply gel color coat(s), cure. Remove tacky layer with isopropyl alcohol.
  4. Peel off the backing from the stars and stick them firmly onto your manicure
  5. Apply a coat of gel topcoat or structure gel over the stars, cure
  6. If needed, buff the surface of your nails lightly to smooth out any rough edges
  7. Apply a final coat of gel topcoat, cure, cleanse

Glass Star nails by @chalkboardnails

My biggest tip for you on these is to prep your stars before you start doing anything else. That is not a task you want to be doing with wet polish or sticky-halfway-done-gels. I used hula hooping tape from HoopSupplies.com, and hole punched out the shapes with a star shaped hole punch from Michael’s. While I was at it, I prepped a bunch of them and stored them in an empty nail art pot.

Since the tape is so awesomely iridescent, it was tough to photograph! I had good success capturing the real effect of the stars with my iPhone in the photo above.

What do you think? Have you tried this trend? Is this a look you would wear?
