4 Dry Skin Culprits & Treatments For The Winter – The Wardrobe Stylist

0

It’s December, which means that many of us that celebrate the Holidays and are busy decking out our homes with all the seasonal decorations we can find! And as we are enjoying this season, the last thing we need is dry skin. Many of us who live in cold climates will experience dry skin without even trying; all of us are more susceptible to dryer skin, flakiness, eczema, and irritation this time of year.

4 Dry Skin Culprits & Treatments For The Winter_Pin

Dry Skin Culprits

You may not know it, but aside from the weather, there are many culprits contributing to the dry skin phenomena in winter. Here are some reasons why, and skincare steps for avoiding extra seasonal dryness.

#1: Heaters & Less Humidity

When the heat comes on and the windows close, we lose a lot of humidity in the air, thus sucking more water out of the skin. If you have a built-in humidifier, it’s time to turn it up, or grab yourself a portable humidifier to put in your home to keep moisture in the air. If you only have one, put it in your bedroom so your skin has moisture as you sleep.

#2: Products & More Hand Washing

This season is notorious for being “flu season” and “cold season,” but now it’s even more elevated due to more COVID-19 variants roaming around. That means many of us are doing extra cleaning, hand-washing, sanitizing and more. And since most cleaners strip the essential oils and water from our skin (because they are doing their job of cleaning), you may notice your skin feeling and looking a little extra rough. The best thing to do is keep moisturizers and hand lotions around whenever you
are using cleaning products. Remember the best way to re-moisturize the skin is using a hydrating lotion and/or moisturizer before you go to bed.

#3: Stress

Let’s face it, it’s a magical time of year, but it is also a pretty stressful time of year. Stress exacerbates trans-epidermal water loss – a.k.a. the speed at which water leaves our skin. Extra stress can also lead to lost sleep, and anxious behaviours like drinking and smoking, which also negatively impact the skin. It is best to pay a little extra attention to your stress levels and try to relieve some of the burden away.

#4: Fragrance & Makeup

During the holidays we tend to up our hair, makeup and general beauty routines. We have parties, work festivities, and more that make us want to glow up a bit. However, it can be a drying and irritating time if our skin and hair aren’t used to it.

#5: Masks

Masks are notorious for exacerbating all skin conditions. For winter, don’t forget that this also includes wrapping ourselves in scarves, hats, gloves, and headbands when it gets cold outside. These items create friction, trap heat and moisture, which can cause fluctuations in skin pH, and trap bacteria. If you wear masks or winter gear, it is ideal to do a gentle cleanse and re-moisturize afterwards. This will help keep problems at bay.

Hair

Make sure you’re using a priming leave-in conditioner or conditioning spray before blowdrying and styling your hair. Try to prolong your washes to every 2-3 days to ensure you’re not stripping too much oil from the scalp and hair follicles. Opt for leave-in conditioners like this one from Pantene and this one from Bumble & Bumble.

Body

My favorite thing is a good scented body wash. I am obsessed with the Molton Brown body washes – especially this one for the Holiday season. Sometimes though, gel-based cleansers can be drying on the skin. That is why I like to “cocktail” my Molton Brown with an ultra-hydrated body wash to ensure I don’t dry out. I’ll do a squirt of Molton Brown on my loofah, along with a bit of my favorite Dove hydrated cream wash. This way I can enjoy my favorite holiday scents while still soothing my body skin. Also, it is VERY important to moisturize upon getting out of your shower or bath. Find whatever moisturizer that you will use consistently. For me, I need to have a pump moisturizer right on my bathroom counter so I use it.

Face

If you’re not used to wearing a lot of makeup, your skin may revolt a bit if you start wearing it consistently. Most of us have gone makeup-less for the whole pandemic, so it may take some adjustment if you are starting up again. The best tip I have is to always cleanse and hydrate before applying any makeup. This ensures makeup has a clean palette to work on. Makeup will never look good on skin if the skin is dry or dehydrated. Also, never forget to wash off your makeup before bed. Sleeping with makeup on can ruin your eyelashes, dry out the skin, spread bacteria and make you breakout, and advance the signs of aging. No thanks.

The Gist of it

Don’t let dry skin wear you down this Holiday season. Dry skin culprits can be irritating and painful. Many of the things around us like heaters, lack of humidity, excessive hand-washing, skin and cleaning products, even mask wearing are large contributors to dryness. Opt for powerful hair, body, and face products to protect you against it. For expert advice if you live in India, you can check out the best beauty salon in Bachupally. What To Look For In An Anti-Aging Serum | Joanna Vargas

0

If you’ve ever stood in the skincare aisle feeling completely overwhelmed, you’re not alone. It seems like every day there’s a new “miracle” product promising to erase time from our faces. We’re all looking for that one thing that actually delivers on its promise of youthful, glowing skin. Amidst the empty promises of countless creams and lotions, the most powerful tool you can add to your routine is, without a doubt, a high-quality anti aging serum.

But what makes a serum so special, and how do you find one that will genuinely bring about the skin rejuvenation you’re hoping for? Let’s break down what really matters.

Key Takeaways

In a rush? Here’s what you need to know about choosing the right anti-aging serum:

  • Serums Offer Deeper Delivery: Unlike moisturizers, serums have smaller molecules that penetrate the skin more deeply, delivering a higher concentration of active ingredients for more effective results.

  • Ingredients Are Everything: Look for a formula rich in antioxidants (like Vitamin E and C), nourishing natural oils (like Jojoba and Argan), and essential fatty acids (found in Rosehip and Olive Oil) for true skin rejuvenation.

  • It’s All About Protection and Hydration: The goal of a great serum is to protect skin from environmental damage, provide deep hydration, and strengthen the skin’s natural barrier for a resilient, youthful glow.

  • Application Matters: For best results, always apply your serum to clean skin, right after toning and before applying your moisturizer, to lock in the potent ingredients.

Why a Serum is Your Anti-Aging Secret Weapon

First, let’s clear up a common question: isn’t a serum just a fancy moisturizer? Not at all. Think of it this way: a moisturizer’s main job is to create a barrier on your skin to lock in hydration.

A serum, on the other hand, is a lightweight, fast-absorbing liquid made up of smaller molecules. This structure allows it to penetrate deeper into the skin, delivering a highly concentrated dose of active ingredients directly where they’re needed most.

This targeted delivery system is what makes an anti aging serum so incredibly effective at addressing concerns like fine lines, wrinkles, and loss of firmness.

The A-List Ingredients for True Rejuvenation

The magic of any serum is in its formula. A truly effective rejuvenating serum will be packed with ingredients that work together to nourish, protect, and restore your skin. Forget the marketing hype and focus on the label. Here are the powerhouse ingredients you should be looking for:

1. Potent Antioxidants

Every day, your skin is battling environmental stressors like pollution and UV rays. These create free radicals, which are unstable molecules that damage skin cells and accelerate aging. Antioxidants are your skin’s personal bodyguards. They neutralize free radicals before they can cause harm.

Look For: Vitamin E (Tocopherol), Vitamin C, Rosehip Oil. These are champions at protecting the skin and brightening your complexion.

2. Skin-Identical Natural Oils

Not all oils are bad for your skin—far from it! The right kind of non-comedogenic (non-pore-clogging) oils can work in beautiful harmony with your skin’s natural oils (sebum). They help to hydrate, balance oil production, and smooth out your skin’s texture.

Look For: Jojoba Oil is a superstar because its molecular structure is incredibly similar to our own sebum, making it easily absorbed. Argan Oil is another fantastic choice, often called “liquid gold” for its ability to improve elasticity and deeply moisturize.

3. Essential Fatty Acids

A healthy skin barrier is crucial for youthful-looking skin. This barrier keeps moisture locked in and irritants out. Essential fatty acids are the building blocks of a strong, healthy barrier. When your barrier is compromised, your skin can become dry, irritated, and dull.

Look For: Olive Oil and Rosehip Oil are rich sources of fatty acids that help to fortify your skin’s defenses, leaving it feeling resilient, soft, and supple.

The Solution: A Serum That Brings It All Together

Finding a product that expertly combines all these elements can be the difference between so-so results and a true transformation. If you’re tired of guessing and want a serum that embodies everything we’ve talked about, it’s time to get to know the Joanna Vargas Rejuvenating Serum.

It brings together that dream team of ingredients into one luxurious formula. With a blend of Argan Oil for elasticity, Jojoba Oil for balanced hydration, and antioxidant-rich Rosehip and Olive Oils, it directly addresses the key signs of aging.

What makes our rejuvenating serum stand out is how it feels and the visible results it delivers. It sinks into the skin beautifully without any greasy residue, immediately making your skin feel softer and look brighter. With consistent use, it works to restore that plump, firm feeling and gives you a radiant glow that looks like you just had a spa facial. It is the epitome of what a results-driven anti aging serum should be.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Serum

To maximize the benefits, it’s all about placement. Always apply your serum to clean skin, right after you’ve cleansed and toned. Dispense a few drops onto your fingertips, gently press it into your face and neck, and give it a minute to fully absorb. Follow up with your favorite moisturizer to seal in all that goodness. Use it morning and night for the best path to visible skin rejuvenation.

By focusing on proven ingredients and understanding where a serum fits into your routine, you can finally stop searching and start seeing the healthy, vibrant skin you deserve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the real difference between an anti aging serum and a moisturizer?

A: Think of them as a one-two punch. A serum is a lightweight, potent formula with small molecules designed to penetrate deep into the skin to deliver active ingredients and address specific concerns like wrinkles. A moisturizer is thicker and works on the skin’s surface to create a protective barrier that locks in hydration and the serum’s benefits.

Q: At what age should I start using a rejuvenating serum?

A: There’s no magic number, but many dermatologists recommend incorporating an anti aging serum into your routine in your mid-to-late 20s. This is when the first signs of aging can appear and when preventative care is most effective for long-term skin health and rejuvenation.

Q: Can I use an oil-based serum if I have oily or acne-prone skin?

A: Absolutely! The key is to choose a serum with non-comedogenic oils, meaning they won’t clog your pores. Oils like jojoba are fantastic for oily skin because they mimic your skin’s natural sebum, which can help balance oil production and reduce excess shine over time.

Q: How long will it take to see results from a serum?

A: While you might notice some immediate benefits like increased hydration and a temporary glow, significant results from active ingredients (like reduced fine lines and improved firmness) typically take time. With consistent use, you can generally expect to see noticeable changes within 4 to 8 weeks as your skin cells go through their natural turnover cycle.

The Ultimate Guide for Lash Technicians – Eyelash Emporium

0

As a lash technician, staying on top of the latest lash extension techniques is crucial to provide exceptional service to your clients. Among the many options available, xD Russian Volume Lashes stands out as a game-changing technique that delivers unparalleled volume and glamour. It is the perfect lash treatment for clients wanting to achieve a more dramatic yet lightweight look. This complete guide helps lash technicians like you master the art of Russian volume lashes, from understanding the technique to perfecting the application process. Get ready to elevate your skills and create stunning lash transformations for your clients.

WHAT ARE xD RUSSIAN VOLUME LASHES?

xD Russian Volume Lashes involve applying multiple superfine eyelash extensions to a single natural lash. Unlike classic lash extensions, which follow a 1:1 ratio, this technique allows for a fuller, denser and more dramatic lash set. The lightweight nature of these extensions ensures comfort and natural-looking results.

THE ART OF LASH FAN CREATION

The key to achieving flawless volume lashes lies in creating beautifully crafted lash fans.

  • Select the appropriate number of extensions for each fan based on the desired volume and the client’s natural lashes.
  • Use volume lash tweezers to pick up the extensions, making sure they are evenly fanned out.
  • Pinch the base of the extensions together gently, creating a solid foundation for the fan.
  • Gradually close the tweezers while maintaining a gentle grip to create a seamless and voluminous fan.

Consistency and practice will help you achieve uniformity.

WHAT IS THE RUSSIAN LASH APPLICATION PROCESS?

Prep & Prime: Begin by thoroughly cleansing the client’s natural lashes, and removing any makeup, oils, or residue. This step ensures a clean surface for proper adhesive adhesion.

Lash Extension Selection: Choose the appropriate lashes based on the client’s desired look and the condition of their natural lashes. Opt for thinner lash extensions ranging from 0.03mm to 0.10mm in diameter for Russian volume lashes.

Application: Dip a fan into a small amount of adhesive, ensuring only the base is coated. Attach the fan extension to the isolated natural lash, close to the lash line, creating a fan-like effect. Repeat this step to attach multiple extensions to each natural lash. Ensure proper isolation of each lash to prevent stickies and ensure a seamless and full look.

Drying Time: The adhesive needs time to cure and dry. During this period, ensure that the lash extensions are properly positioned and separated to achieve a natural and voluminous look. Advise the client to keep their eyes closed to avoid any discomfort.

Perfect The Set: Brush through the lashes to ensure they are evenly distributed, and fluff them up for a flawless.

AFTERCARE AND MAINTENANCE FOR RUSSIAN LASHES

Giving your clients the proper aftercare instructions is essential to extend the longevity and appearance of their lash extensions. Here are some suggestions for aftercare:

  • Educate clients on the importance of using oil-free makeup removers specifically designed for eyelash extensions. Oil-based removers can weaken the adhesive bond, leading to premature lash shedding.
  • Advise clients to use a gentle, oil-free cleanser specifically formulated for eyelash extensions. This will help them remove makeup, dirt, and oils without compromising the adhesive bond.
  • Accentuate the significance of washing the lashes every night and brushing them with a fresh spoolie to maintain a polished appearance and prevent dirt buildup.
  • Clients should be reminded not to pick at or pull on their lash extensions, as this can cause damage to both the extensions and their natural lashes.

Lash maintenance also includes lash refills. Discuss the necessity of maintaining the fullness and lifespan of the lash extensions with regular refill treatments every 2-3 weeks. Help your clients realise the importance of lash refills in maintaining their lashes looking their best.

ACHIEVING STUNNING RESULTS FOR EVERY CLIENT

Personalisation: Invest time in understanding your client’s desired aesthetic and adapt the lash style to their specific preferences. Chat with them about lash length, curl, and thickness options, ensuring that you achieve the desired outcome while maintaining a flattering and appealing look.

Skilful Application: Pay careful attention to the unique eye shape and natural lash pattern of each client. Utilise your expertise to craft a lash set that enhances their eyes and complements their individual features.

Continuous Learning: Remain up-to-date with the latest techniques, trends, and products in the lash industry. Participate in workshops, training sessions, and conferences to continuously refine your skills and offer the highest level of service to your clients.

When it comes to bonfire night recipes for a get-together or to take to a display, it’s best to keep things simple and have warming comfort food in mind. If I’m hosting, I always like to make a few options and serve everything in pots and mini ramekins so that guests can pick and choose what they fancy. So whatever you’re doing for the 5th November this year, just remember, remember to pre-prep your seasonal party dishes…

Quick & Easy Bonfire Night Recipes

Squash Frittata

SERVES 4
480 CALORIES PER SERVING

15g butter
1 squash, finely sliced
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
2 sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into thin strips
1/4 tsp ground cumin
Leaves from 8 sprigs of thyme
8 medium eggs
Small handful of flat leaf parsley, finely chopped
50g Parmesan cheese, grated
Sea salt and black pepper

I often make a frittata when I have friends over; it’s wholesome and looks great, and people can tuck into as much or as little as they want. You can swap out the vegetables for whatever’s in season; squash is a great option for this time of year.

  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C/200°C fan.
  2. Melt half the butter in a large ovenproof frying pan over a medium heat. Add the squash and garlic and cook for five minutes until softened, then transfer to a plate and set aside.
  3. Melt the remaining butter in the pan, add the sweet potatoes, cumin and thyme and cook over a medium-high hear for 5-8 minutes until tender and golden. Remove the pan from the heat.
  4. Remove the sweet potatoes from the pan and place on kitchen paper to absorb some of the moisture.
  5. Place the eggs in a bowl with the parsley and Parmesan and whisk together.
  6. Transfer the squash mixture and sweet potatoes back into the pan and mix. Season with salt and pepper and pour in the egg mixture.
  7. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 15 minutes or until firm (finish under the grill for an extra crispy finish). Divide between plates or leave in the pan and let guests help themselves.
  8. You could also make a salsa verde to serve with the frittata, see my book Eat Beautiful for a recipe and some more ideas.

More Quick-Fire Recipe Ideas

Whatever your cooking level, you’ll be able to whip up these bonfire night party food ideas in no time at all.

  • Jacket potatoes cooked in foil; keep these in their foil and serve with a range of toppings. If you’re having a bonfire you could even provide pokers or sticks so that people can enjoy warming theirs up in the fire. Provide mini boxes for people to stack their potatoes and topping in. Keep it simple with beans and grated cheese or cook up a one-pot beef or bean chilli to add to the mix.
  • Sausage & mash; Buy some gluten-free sausages from your local market (I love the ones you can buy at the Pimlico market) or grab some high-quality veggie sausages and cook up and serve with baked mashed potato florets.
  • Kale soup with chilli oil; check out my book for the full recipe; this is a great option to have bubbling gently on the stove in a cast-iron pot – guests can grab a cup on arrival to give them a healthy and warming start to the evening
  • Mac & cheese; don’t worry about making a béchamel for this one; simply cook up your wheat-free or brown rice penne, add some seasonal veg (I love broccoli and kale), fry up some garlic & brown off the veg, then stir together the pasta and vegetables with a slug of oil, plenty of Parmesan cheese and some salt and pepper.

The Nailasaurus | UK Nail Art Blog – The Glitter Tears Nail Art ‘Trend’

0

I’ve seen a few publications writing about ‘Glitter Tears Nail Art’ as if it were a new trend making the rounds. I just wanted to go on record to set things straight – nail artists were doing it long before Glitter Tears were a thing. No shade… just giving credit where it’s due!

It’s really just your classic glitter gradient on a blank base i.e. no base colour, just clear polish. Calling it a trend is a little… reductive. It’s one of the oldest tricks in the book and will always be in style.

This particular take on the look is inspired by Hannah Rox it who has the tutorial up on her YouTube channel.

Now I know what you’re thinking – and yeah, of course it takes a really long time! I had to place every piece of glitter individually. But that’s half the fun of it if you’re an anally retentive perfectionist like myself, right?

In all, the whole hand took less than 45 minutes and I was distracted by Gilmore Girls on in the background so I think I could do it in 25 if I was concentrating. There is an easier way to get the look – read on for more.

How to do the Nail Art

1. Apply your usual base coat.
2. Find a clear polish or top coat that isn’t a quick dry polish – the longer it stays wet, the longer you have to attach the glitter.
3. Using something pointy (I use toothpicks), pick up your pieces of glitter one at a time and start at the tip of your nail. Place them in a falling pattern – with more coverage right at the tip, using less as you get close to the cuticle.
4. If the clear coat on your nails dries before you finish, just apply another or dab on the spots where you need it most.
5. Finish with a couple of layers of top coat. I’d recommend using quite a thick top coat to really smooth over the glitter chunks.

The Hack

If you want to get the look in half the time, all you need is your favourite glitter polish and a makeup wedge.
1. Apply a clear base coat.
2. Paint a little glitter polish on to the edge of your sponge and dab it straight on to the tip of your nail.
3. Keep dabbing gently (but never drag/swipe) and take it halfway down your nail to create the fade.
4. Finish off with a few layer of top coat to smooth things over.

A Few Tips

Practice on falsies first and try to have patience. Practice makes perfect!
If you’re going to use the sponge hack, use a fine glitter

How to Fix Dry, Chapped Lips Naturally

0

Dry, chapped lips can be more than uncomfortable — they can affect your confidence too. The good news? With a few simple changes and natural remedies, you can soothe, hydrate, and protect your lips without harsh chemicals. Here’s how.

Why Do Lips Get So Dry?

Environmental Factors

Cold winds, hot sun, or even the air conditioning at work can all strip moisture from your lips, leaving them dry and tight.

Lifestyle Factors

Not drinking enough water, frequently licking your lips, or even breathing through your mouth can all contribute to chapping.

Product Mistakes

Using harsh products like soap or makeup wipes on your lips can make things worse. Petroleum-based balms often create a barrier that feels helpful but can leave lips dependent rather than nourished.

Common Mistakes People Make

  • Over-exfoliating: Lips are delicate. Too much scrubbing can cause irritation and make dryness worse.
  • Petroleum/mineral oil-based balms: These can create a cycle of temporary relief without real hydration.
  • Ignoring SPF: Your lips are skin too — and just as vulnerable to sun damage.

Natural Remedies for Dry, Chapped Lips

Hydrate From Within

Drink plenty of water and eat nutrient-rich foods like cucumbers, oranges, and leafy greens to support hydration from the inside out.

Gentle Exfoliation

A simple sugar + honey scrub once a week can smooth away flakes. Keep it gentle — no harsh scrubbing.

Use a Natural Lip Balm

Choose a balm with plant oils and vitamin E to soothe and repair your lips. Avoid synthetic fragrances or drying chemicals.

Discover our Soothing Lip Balm — a natural solution that melts into your lips, leaving them soft, smooth, and nourished.

Avoid Harsh Chemicals

Fragrance-heavy or synthetic balms often irritate delicate lip skin. Stick to natural, nourishing formulas for best results.

Building a Lip Care Routine

The key to healthy lips is consistency. Try these habits:

  • Stay hydrated and apply balm morning and night.
  • Keep a balm in your bag for touch-ups during the day.
  • Pair lip care with overall skincare — use a natural hand cream and moisturiser for full-body hydration.

When to Seek Extra Help

If your lips are persistently cracked, painful, or bleeding, it’s best to see a healthcare professional. Sometimes, ongoing dryness can signal an underlying condition that needs attention.

Perimenopause & Your Skin: What’s Really Going On (& How to Keep That

0

style=”;”
/>

Let’s talk about the P-word… perimenopause (aka the prequel to menopause).

This transition is something many women (and people assigned female at birth) go through, typically starting in your late 30s through to your 50s. And because the convo around it is still stuck in hush-hush mode, many of us have no clue why our skin’s suddenly acting like it’s going through a second puberty.

So we’re here to break it down for you.

The Science-y Bit

Perimenopause is when your oestrogen and progesterone start doing the cha-cha: up, down, all around. These hormonal shifts can affect your skin’s oil production, collagen levels, hydration and barrier function. These changes can look like:

1. Acne

Yep. You thought you broke up with pimples in the 90s, but here they are… back for one last hurrah. Cue: internal screaming.

What’s happening: Fluctuating estrogen and progesterone can rev up oil production, clogging pores. A study in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism mentions that this hormonal seesaw as a big reason perimenopausal breakouts happen.

What to do:

  • Switch to a gentle and balancing cleanser that won’t strip the skin and is free from harsh foaming agents.
  • Hydrate lightly so your skin doesn’t go “oh no, I’m dry!” and pump out more oil.

Woohoo Recs:

2. Sensitivity — Your Skin’s New Diva Phase

Perimenopausal skin can suddenly become reactive to fragrances, essential oils or ingredients it might have previously loved. Think redness, itchiness and skin that feels so darn tingly.

What’s happening: Lower estrogen and fewer barrier ceramides can lead to more irritants sneaking in. One report found that perimenopausal women lose key ceramides, which leads to water loss and frazzled skin defences.

What to do:

  • Strip your routine back to soothing, barrier-repairing basics.
  • Avoid potential irritants like strong fragrance or high concentrations of actives (at least until your skin chills out).

3. Dryness & Dullness

Collagen and natural oil production slow down, leaving your skin feeling tighter, flakier and looking a bit dull.

What’s happening: Estrogen plays a starring role in helping the skin hold onto hydration. A cross-sectional study of women aged 45–55 found that those with more intense menopausal symptoms had higher skin dryness and transepidermal water loss (aka that thirsty-skin feeling).

What to do:

  • Use hydrating toners and mists to drench your skin.
  • Follow with oils or richer creams to lock in that goodness.

4. Hyperpigmentation

Hormonal changes can send melanin production into overdrive, leading to dark patches or sun spots that weren’t there before.

What’s happening: Perimenopause hormones can amp up melanin production. A study in Science Direct links estrogen and progesterone imbalance to pigmentation flares. Add UV exposure and it’s game on for spots.

What to do:

  • SPF. Every. Single. Day. Even if you’re mostly indoors or it’s cloudy.
  • Pair it with a brightening product to help even tone.

Woohoo Recs:

5. The Emotional Side (Yes, It’s Connected to Skin)

Stress, mood swings and disrupted sleep (all common in perimenopause) can worsen skin issues.

What’s happening: Cortisol (the stress hormone) increases inflammation. This study found that sleepless skin takes longer to heal and fortify barrier function.

What to do:

  • Build in relaxing wind-down rituals into your everyday.
  • Aromatherapy can help balance mood and stress.

Woohoo Recs:

  • Do some light stretching or yoga before bed.
  • Sniff something soothing (even if it’s just your cuppa chamomile). While most of our skincare is now essential oil–free to keep things gentle, your wind-down routine can still feel like a mini spa moment.

Perimenopause doesn’t mean your skin’s given up. It just needs a little extra love, patience and barrier-boosting care. Think gentle, hydrating, and protective 🙂  Which is what we do best!

This is our second favourite formula. It contains a strong dose of marine algae, hyaluronic acid, and other seed oils. This product is more of a toner type product that you can use before applying a serum.

Carrot & Stick The Defence Serum
It contains 3 distinct types of vitamin c that work together to help fight free radical damage. Use every morning.

Formulyst Anti-Aging Concentrate
Formulated with ProBioBalance and a powerful Peptide Complex, Formulyst’s fast-acting multitasker of a super serum for aging skin harnesses the natural skincare benefits of Shea Butter, Green Tea & Vitamins C+E to visibly promote the five signs of youth – radiance, elasticity, firmness, skin tone, and smoothness.

Tula Skincare Hello Radiance Illuminating Serum
This popular anti-aging serum gives the skin a noticeable from-within glow every day. It’s formulated with light-reflecting pearlescence to instantly illuminate the skin, while Japanese mandarin brightens lackluster skin over time. Additionally, rice peptides firm the skin, and prebiotic and probiotic extracts balance and nourish.

First Aid Beauty Retinol Serum .25% Pure Concentrate
When it comes to retinol, everyone has to start somewhere. This formula is perfect for newbies and those with sensitive skin. It contains a mere .25% strength of retinol, skin-plumping peptides, and First Aid Beauty’s proprietary “Skin Saver Complex” (hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, colloidal oatmeal, ceramides, allantoin, and vitamins C and E.) The result? Nourished skin alleviated from any irritation that’s traditionally linked to retinol.

ZO Skin Health Vitamin C Self Activating
This anti-aging serum from ZO Skin Health combines 10% ascorbic acid (pure vitamin C) with tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate (a stable vitamin C derivative). This anti-aging serum also includes vitamin E, which can become more powerful when combined with vitamin C. For this reason, vitamins C and E are referred to as “network antioxidants” to brighten, hydrate, and firm the skin.

Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum
First introduced in 1982, Advanced Night Repair Serum was the first anti-aging night serum in the industry. Today, nearly eight bottles are sold every minute. Thanks to humectants, emollients, probiotics, soothing botanicals, and a peptide, this anti-aging formula is said to address signs of aging caused by the environmental assaults of modern life — like pollution, blue light, and environmental toxins.

Clinique Smart Custom-Repair Serum
If you feel as though your skin is changing from one day to the next, you’ll love this high-tech serum that adjusts to suit the needs of anyone who wears it. It targets, treats, and prevents specific skin issues, whether that’s loss of elasticity, fine lines, and wrinkles, dryness, dullness, breakouts, and hyperpigmentation — basically anything that can pop up in your 40s. The secret sauce is a blend of brightening botanicals, vitamin C, peptides, and salicylic acid.

Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate
This unique anti-aging serum features Japanese shiso, which prevents the degradation of hyaluronic acid — another ingredient in this formula — to deeply hydrate while improving the skin’s elasticity. Glycerin and an epidermal hydration filler encourage the skin’s natural production of hyaluronic acid to enhance dullness while smoothing the appearance of fine lines and an uneven texture.

Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Serum
This power-packed anti-aging serum is formulated with two forms of retinol—one that works quickly and another that’s time-released—to soften fine lines and wrinkles and even out the skin tone while stimulating collagen production. A retinol booster enhances the results, while hyaluronic acid minimizes dryness and promotes a from-within glow.

Dr. Dennis Gross C + Collagen Brighten and Firm Vitamin C Serum
While technically, vitamin C is vital for collagen synthesisthis serum takes it to another level with the addition of collagen amino acids. There’s also lactic and mandelic (a form of alpha hydroxy acid) acids to dissolve dead skin cells and a proprietary Energy Complex (CoQ10, superoxide dismutase, carnitine, and niacinamide) to boost radiance, improve firmness, and diminish the appearance of pigmentation spots over time.

Kate Somerville +Retinol Vitamin C Serum
It’s not too often that you see a serum incorporating retinol and vitamin C because they thrive in two different pH environments. However, Kate Somerville has managed to formulate a serum that harnesses both of these power-packed ingredients. It works while you sleep to brighten, tone, and revive a dull, uneven skin tone. Clinical studies indicate that 97% of users noticed improved fine lines and wrinkles after just one use. After one week, 93% saw an improvement in skin elasticity, and 90% said their skin tone looked brighter.

Strivectin Advanced Hydration Lactic Acid Nightly Retexturing Serum
As the name suggests, this formula is one of the best serums for targeting dry, lackluster skin because it exfoliates one of the keys to achieving a supple, plump complexion. Alpha-hydroxy acids, vegan lactic acid, blue cypress oil, and an advanced youth-boosting Nonapeptide boost the skin’s natural moisturizing factors while improving skin tone and texture.

Lancôme Advanced Génifique Anti-Aging Face Serum
Lancome’s supercharged serum is packed with ingredients to keep skin hydrated and increase cell turnover and is designed for older skin. One of its key ingredients is Bifida ferment lysate, a bacteria that is similar to a probiotic for the skin and helps boost the skin’s moisture barrier. Hyaluronic acid also adds moisture to the skin, while a dose of vitamin C helps it look brighter. There’s no need to worry about whether you’re applying the right amount; the dropper is self-loading.

Sunday Riley A+ High Dose Retinoid Serum
Full disclosure: This is not a retinol serum for rookie retinol users. This professional strength formula consists of a 5% retinoid ester blend, 1% liposomal-encapsulated retinol, and blue-green algae to provide antioxidant protection. The addition of encapsulated CoQ10 works to improve damaged or aging skin; and if you’re worried about irritation due to the strength, cactus extract, Hawaiian white honey, bisabolol, and ginger calm and soothe.

Best Anti-Aging Serum: The Bottom Line

Overall, the best serum is Carrot and Stick Repair Serum. We recommend Day and Night Routine, as it contains both serums.

Applied after cleansing and toning and before moisturizing, one of the most vital skincare products in your daily routine should be a serum — especially if it’s an anti-aging formula. Whether you’re just starting to notice the first signs of aging or you’re looking to embark on an effective skincare routine later in life, consider the best anti-aging serum as an anchor.

Be mindful of the best active ingredients — including concentration level — packaging, the application process, and the realization that you’re not going to see results overnight — especially without consistent use.

Remember, you don’t always need to spend a lot of money to see results. Focus on quality ingredients — including concentration level — packaging, and science.

Introducing Skintuition SPF 30 Radiance-Boosting Liquid Foundation: A

0

It’s been 31 years since Jane Iredale created Amazing Base® Loose Mineral Powder, our very first product and the industry’s first skin-loving foundation. Since then, we’ve built a global reputation for creating skin-first foundations that feel as good as they look. Never content with being simply a “clean beauty brand,” we pioneered performance clean, bridging the gap between high-performance makeup and powerful skincare.

This year, we’ve raised the bar once again with the launch of our newest skincare makeup innovation – Skintuition SPF 30 Radiance-Boosting Liquid Foundation. This dynamic formula sets a new standard for liquid foundation with a feel and finish that’s just like skin, only better, and a radiance-boosting formula that’s clinically proven to support skin hydration. Lovers of this foundation are saying things like, “I never knew my skin could look so beautiful!” and “It’s like I’m wearing skincare!” Here’s everything you need to know.

How Celebrity Hairstylist Mia Santiago Travels With Her Halo Extensions

0

As a stylist, I’m always on the move, whether it’s hopping on a plane for a shoot or packing for an event. And while I’ve mastered the art of squeezing half my life into a carry-on, hair extensions used to be…let’s just say, not travel-friendly. (Nothing kills the vibe faster than opening your suitcase to find a matted hairball staring back at you.)

That’s why I swear by Halos. They’re lightweight, low-maintenance, and ridiculously easy to travel with.

Why Halos Are Travel-Friendly

  • Lightweight and Low-Maintenance – They lie flat, don’t tangle easily, and don’t need constant babysitting.
  • Portable – A garment bag is all it takes to keep them safe and sleek.
  • Space Savers – Honestly, my shoes take up more room than my Halos. Priorities.

My Packing Routine: Stylist Approved (and TSA-friendly)

Here’s how I keep my Halos in perfect shape, even while living out of a suitcase:

  1. Brush Before Packing – A quick detangle to keep things smooth. (Prevention > untangling later.)
  2. Garment Bag Magic – I slip The Halo inside a protected pouch so it stays crease-free and stress-free.
  3. Mini Travel Kit – I always pack a brush, clips, and a little pouch for accessories. Think of it as The Halo’s survival kit.
  4. Quick Refresh on Arrival – A shake, a brush, and she’s ready to style! No jet lag, no drama.

Why The Halos Are The Best For Me

Halos are basically the easiest relationship in my life: they don’t ask for much, they travel well, and they always show up looking good. For me (and my clients), they’re not just an accessory, they’re a travel essential.
