Study finds oral supplement can reduce wrinkles in 12 weeks

0

The trial, published in Dermatology and Therapytested Ritual’s HyaCera formulation in a demographically diverse cohort. The research was funded by the product manufacturer, Ritual, with partial financial contribution from the hyaluronic acid supplier, Kewpie.

Study highlights whole-body skin improvements

The study enrolled 63 healthy adults between the ages of 26 and 64, and the cohort was randomly assigned to receive either the supplement or a placebo once daily for 12 weeks. Skin changes were measured at multiple points using a combination of imaging technology, dermatologist evaluations and participant feedback.

Participants in the supplement group reported significant reductions in crow’s feet wrinkles as well as improved skin smoothness after eight weeks.

Dermatologist assessments confirmed the improvements, with significant reductions in measures of deep and fine wrinkles over the 12 weeks observed only in the supplement group, the researchers wrote.

By the end of the study, significantly more people in the supplement group reported improvements in fine lines, skin radiance, elasticity and overall signs of aging.

Ingredient combination delivers on multiple skin fronts

The formulation combined low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid, known for its ability to attract and retain moisture in the skin, with a wheat oil extract rich in ceramides and polar lipids, which help support the skin’s natural barrier.

While both ingredients have shown skin benefits separately in earlier studies, this was the first trial to test them together.

“It was hypothesized that these ingredients would act synergistically, with HA working in deeper layers to enhance elasticity and fullness and wheat oil extract supporting surface barrier function,” Adeline Grier-Welch, senior scientist at Ritual and lead researcher on the study, told NutraIngredients.

Designed to reflect real-world diversity

According to Grier-Welch, one of the trial’s goals was to reflect the real-world diversity of supplement users, a characteristic she described as often missing in skin-health research.

“This trial was designed to address a key gap in the literature,” she explained,“ adding that the ingredients’ “combined effects in a single product had never been tested in humans, particularly in a racially and ethnically diverse population spanning multiple skin types and ages.”

Participants included individuals with Fitzpatrick skin types II through VI and were balanced across gender, age, and background.

“The consistent improvements across this broad population suggest that HyaCera delivers meaningful skin benefits to a racially and ethnically diverse audience,” Grier-Welch added.

Moving forward, she noted that the findings could help inform product development in the beauty-from-within space.

“These results highlight that oral delivery can drive full-body skin benefits and that maintaining ingredient form and dosage based on previously validated research is critical for measuring meaningful results,” she said.

No Mascara Makeup: The Minimal Lash Look for Winter

0

What Is the No-Mascara Makeup Look and Why Is It Trending?

The no-mascara makeup look is having a major moment. Think glossy skin, soft eyes, and naturally healthy lashes — the ultimate expression of the clean girl look. This trend celebrates minimalism and confidence, proving that natural makeup and mascara-free makeup can be just as striking as a full-glam beat.

Makeup artists and beauty lovers alike are leaning into minimal makeup that focuses on hydration, luminosity, and glowing skin as the focal point of your look. Skin that looks fresh, not filtered, is the foundation of it all.

How Do You Prep Your Skin for a Natural, Mascara-Free Finish?

Your makeup prep sets the tone for everything that follows in your mascara-free makeup look. Find your perfect primer for a smooth base. If you have dry skin, our hydrating primer and glowing primer should be applied for radiant skin. To minimize the look of pores and mattify your skin, Prime Time Original Foundation Primer should be your primer of choice. If you have redness, select our Prime Time Redness Reducing Primer to helps tone down winter flush. For primer with daily protection, Prime Time Daily Protecting Primer Mineral SPF 30 provides an extra layer of care against cold-weather stressors. All of these are the perfect starting point for a soft, natural makeup look.

How to Brighten and Even Out the Eyes Without Mascara

When you skip mascara, brightness around the eyes becomes key. Instead of reaching for lash volume, reach for luminosity.

A brightening concealer like Original Liquid Mineral Concealer helps erase shadows while keeping the skin hydrated. For extra radiance, dab on the Well-Rested Under Eye Brightener SPF 20 — a lightweight formula that delivers an instant lift.

These formulas provide natural coverage with a radiant concealer finish — ideal for a winter makeup routine that keeps eyes bright and skin healthy.

How Can You Define Your Eyes Without Using Mascara?

The secret to minimal lash makeup is all in soft definition. Rather than creating contrast, you’re creating harmony.

Try a natural eyeliner for subtle depth along the lash line — smudge it gently for that “barely there” effect. Add dimension with a subtle eyeshadow. Their soft satin and shimmer finishes create a soft eye look that feels romantic and modern.

The result? Eye definition that’s diffused, luminous, and completely effortless.

What About Brows — Do They Matter in a Mascara-Free Look?

Yes, absolutely. When lashes take a back seat, brows become the focus. Natural brows frame the face and give balance to a minimal makeup look.

Use the Mineralist Micro-Defining Eyebrow Pencil to sketch fine, hair-like strokes, then set with the Strength & Length Eyebrow Gel. This duo creates defined brows that stay soft and touchable — no stiffness, no flakes.

With brow gel keeping everything in place, your eyes will naturally appear more lifted, even without mascara.

How Do You Set and Enhance a Minimal Lash Look for All-Day Wear?

Once your minimal makeup is complete, setting is key. You want your glowy finish to last, without losing its natural dewiness.

A light dusting of Setting Powder helps control shine while maintaining radiance. For those who prefer a mist, spritz from the Setting Spray Collection to lock in long-lasting makeup that feels fresh and weightless.

The goal: a winter makeup look that glows naturally — never cakey, never flat.

What Lip Products Pair Best With a No-Mascara Look?

Complete your look with soft, glossy, and nourishing lips to balance the minimalist eyes. Dewy Lip Gloss Balm and Nourishing Lip Oil deliver glossy lips and hydrating lip balm benefits in one step.

Nourishing lipgloss keeps your winter lip care routine as simple — and beautiful — as your natural makeup look.

What’s the best way to brighten tired eyes for a no-mascara look?

Try Well-Rested Under Eye Brightener SPF 20 or Original Liquid Mineral Concealer to awaken and refresh. These brightening concealers deliver under-eye makeup that reflects light beautifully for a natural glow.

Which primers work best for a radiant, minimal makeup look?

Use Prime Time Hydrate + Glow Primer to achieve a hydrating primer finish that creates a glowing base and radiant skin.

How do I keep a no-mascara look from fading during the day?

Opt for Dewy Lip Gloss Balm or Nourishing Lip Oilhydrating lip options that bring glossy lips and winter lip care together for the perfect finishing touch.

How To Choose Your Halo’s Length And Density

0

In This Guide

  • Always think of your natural hair type. Extensions should complement, not compete.

  • Go for a density that matches your hair’s thickest point (usually near the roots).

  • Don’t forget your lifestyle. If you love low-maintenance styling, stick to lighter densities. If you’re all about bold transformations, lean into longer, denser options.

  • For those with shorter hair lengths, ask help from your stylist to cut your Halo for a flawless blend.

Choosing the right Halo isn’t just about picking a color you love, it’s about nailing the length and density so it blends into your own hair like it was always meant to be there.

Too long, and it can look a little “wiggy.” Too thick, and suddenly it’s more drama than glam. But, when you find the sweet spot? It’s magic. Your hair looks fuller, longer, and 100% natural (aka nobody can tell you’re wearing extensions).

Think of us as a hair extension pro who’s already made the mistakes—like buying a length way too long for our haircut, or realizing we should’ve gone up a density to match the ends—so you don’t have to.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through exactly how to pick your Halo’s length and density, plus share stylist-approved tips to make the process super easy.

How Do You Choose a Halo’s Length?

Length plays a huge role in how your Halo looks and feels. Honestly? It’s the foundation of your hairstyle; every inch makes a difference in how your extensions fall, blend, and frame your face.

12 Inches: Collarbone Grazing

Perfect for those with naturally shorter hair or anyone who wants subtle volume without a dramatic length change. A 12-inch Halo blends beautifully with bobs, lobs, or shoulder-grazing cuts. It’s also the easiest to blend because the gap between your natural hair and extensions is minimal.

16 Inches: Everyday Natural

The sweet spot for most people, 16 inches lands just above the chest and works for almost every face shape. This length offers versatility—it’s long enough to curl, braid, or style up while still looking natural for day-to-day wear. If you’re new to extensions, 16 inches is a safe, universal choice that won’t feel overwhelming.

20 Inches: Glamorous Length

For those craving extra length, 20 inches delivers drama. This option reaches down to the waist and instantly transforms your look. Keep in mind, though, that longer lengths require more styling effort to blend naturally, especially if your hair is short. Layers, waves, or curls will help soften the transition. This length is perfect for special occasions, statement looks, or anyone who has always dreamed of mermaid hair.

How Do You Choose a Halo’s Density?

Length gets all the attention, but density is just as important. Density refers to how much hair is on your Halo, measured by weight. At Sitting Pretty, we offer different densities so your extensions don’t just add length—they match the fullness of your natural hair.

Here’s what you need to know:

Fine Density

Best for people with naturally fine or medium hair who want lightweight volume. If your hair can’t comfortably support thicker extensions, sizing down ensures The Halo blends without looking bulky.

Medium Density

A versatile, everyday option that works for almost all hair types. This is our most popular density because it strikes the perfect balance: enough fullness for styling, but still lightweight.

Thick Density

Made for those with really fine or thinning hair, or anyone who loves big, voluminous styles. This denser Halo ensures that your extensions amp up your hair’s bulk so the blend looks seamless.

When Should You Size Up Your Halo?

Depends on the look you want to achieve, really. As a rule of thumb, we recommend you size up in density if your natural hair is ultra thin. A thicker Halo ensures you get as much volume as you want, without it looking too fake.

Size down if your hair is on the medium or thick side already. A lighter Halo won’t overwhelm your strands and will still look more natural.

Think of density as the harmony between your Halo and your real hair—it’s not about having the most hair, but the right amount. So, feel free to layer densities or switch between different types of Halos!

Sitting Pretty Tips

  • Always start with your natural hair type in mind, extensions should complement, not compete.
  • If in doubt, go for a density that matches your hair’s thickest point (usually near the roots).
  • Don’t forget your lifestyle. If you love low-maintenance styling, stick to lighter densities. If you’re all about bold transformations, lean into longer, denser options.
  • For those with shorter hair lengths, aka anything that falls on your shoulders and up, layering is everything. Ask your stylist to cut your Halo for a flawless blend.

Why CC Curl Lash Extensions Are a Must-Have for Every Lash Artist — EBLLashes

What Are CC Curl Lash Extensions?

Choosing the right curl is just as important as selecting length and volume in lash extensions. CC Curl is a popular option that bridges the gap between C Curl and D Curloffering more lift than C Curl but without the dramatic bend of D Curl. This makes it an excellent choice for a wide range of clients, from those who want a natural enhancement to those looking for a subtle touch of drama.

CC Curl vs. C Curl vs. D Curl: Understanding the Difference

C Curl

  • Offers a soft, natural lift, similar to the look of lashes enhanced with an eyelash curler.

  • Best suited for clients with naturally straight or slightly curled lashes.

  • Ideal for a subtle enhancement.

Explore C Curl Lashes

CC Curl

  • More curled than C Curl but less dramatic than D Curl.

  • Works well for a wide range of eye shapesmaking it one of the most versatile curls available.

  • Provides a noticeable lift while still looking elegant and natural.

D Curl

  • The most dramatic of the three, with a strong upward curl that creates an eye-opening effect.

  • Best suited for clients who desire bold, voluminous looks.

  • May not have the best retention on naturally straight lashes due to its steep curl.

Browse D Curl Lashes

Why Lash Artists Love CC Curl

Universally Flattering

CC Curl is one of the most adaptable lash curls, complementing various eye shapes and natural lash types. It provides the perfect balance of enhancement without looking too subtle or overly dramatic.

Perfect for Natural & Glamorous Looks

Since CC Curl falls between C and D, it can be used for both natural and bold styles. It is an ideal choice for clients who want a noticeable yet refined effect.

Great for Lash Retention

D Curl, while beautiful, sometimes struggles with retention on straight lashes due to its extreme curl. CC Curl adheres well to the natural lashproviding excellent retention and long-lasting results.

Seamless Blending with Other Curls

For lash artists who love to customize sets, CC Curl blends effortlessly with both C and D curlsallowing for smooth transitions and stunning mixed curl looks.

When to Use CC Curl on Clients

Best Scenarios for CC Curl

  • A client wants more lift than C Curl but isn’t ready for the intensity of D Curl.

  • Their natural lashes have a slight curlmaking CC Curl blend seamlessly.

  • They are new to lash extensions and want a noticeable yet natural look.

  • The client has hooded or downturned eyes and needs a lift that doesn’t look too exaggerated.

How to Mix CC Curl for Custom Lash Looks

One of the best aspects of CC Curl is that it pairs well with other curls for a blended, natural, or voluminous effect.

  • Classic Lash Extensions: CC Curl provides a subtle yet enhanced appearance.

  • Hybrid Lashes: Mixing CC Curl with C or D Curl creates a beautiful, natural-to-dramatic transition.

  • Volume & Mega Volume Lashes: CC Curl fans offer a lifted, uniform appearance without looking too curled or artificial.

GLP-1 Drugs to Treat Addiction? Early Research Says Yes

0

GLP-1s, which are commonly used to treat diabetes and obesity, could also be a reliable therapy for alcohol and other substance use disorders, according to study findings published by investigators in the Journal of the Endocrine Society. As reported on Pharmacy Times, the study authors noted that the medications show promise in improving alcohol use disorder (AUD), opioid use disorder (OUD) and tobacco use disorder by modulating neurobiological pathways underlying addictive behaviors, potentially reducing substance craving.

“Early research in both animals and humans suggests that these treatments may help reduce alcohol and other substance use,” Lorenzo Leggio, MD of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), both part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, and lead study author, said in a news release. “Some small clinical trials have also shown encouraging results.”

What Treatment Options Are Available for Alcohol and Other Substance Use Disorders?

Currently, treatment options for alcohol and other substance use disorders (ASUDs) are limited, but they are treatable. The severity of the disorders is categorized as physical dependence, risky use, social problems and impaired control that could lead to several medical, psychological and socioeconomic consequences.

“Current treatments for [alcohol and other substance use disorders] fall short of addressing public health needs,” the authors said in the study.

Data from the 2023 National Survey on Drug Use and Health found that nearly 46.3 million adults 18 years and older and around 2.2 million adolescents aged 12 to 17 years have ASUDs, such as alcohol, cannabis, prescription psychotherapeutics and opioids. Specifically, data from 2023 found that 28.1 million adults 18 years and older experienced AUD, and 757,000 adolescents aged 12 to 17 years also had AUD. In 2023, fewer than 25% of individuals with ASUDs received treatment, and under 2% received medication for AUD. Additionally, many patients who visit endocrinologists or other clinicians may not realize their symptoms are linked to underlying ASUD, emphasizing the need for health care providers to recognize the impact of ASUDs and highlighting the critical need for further treatment options.

Can GLP-1s Improve Alcohol and Other Substance Use Disorders?

Previous research from neuroscience, neuroimaging and clinical studies shows that ASUDs and obesity share certain biological and behavioral mechanisms, leading to questions about whether GLP-1s can provide benefits for patients with ASUDs.

“Pathways implicated in addiction also contribute to pathological overeating and obesity,” the authors said in the study.

Regarding AUD, a randomized controlled clinical trial assessed the use of exenatide (Byetta; Amylin and Eli Lilly & Co), which showed no overall effect on alcohol intake, but a subgroup with comorbid obesity had reduced consumption, while low-dose semaglutide (Ozempic; Novo Nordisk) decreased alcohol self-administration, drinking frequency and cravings.

In OUD, animal studies found that GLP-1s lowered self-administration of opioids, including heroin, fentanyl and oxycodone, while reducing relapse-like behavior. Further preclinical results for tobacco use disorders found that GLP-1s reduce nicotine use and relapse, with early human trials suggesting they may help lower daily cigarette consumption and limit post-cessation weight gain.

“This research is very important because alcohol and drug addiction are major causes of illness and death, yet there are still only a few effective treatment options,” Leggio said in the news release. “Finding new and better treatments is critically important to help people live healthier lives.”

Sushi is Bae Nail Art | Chalkboard Nails

0

I love sushi and so does most of the rest of the world. It’s fresh and delicious and actually gorgeous. Have you SEEN the color of raw tuna? I want to paint my LIFE in it!

Anyway, as with most things I love, I decided to try to put it on my nails. Because, naturally. I’ve seen a lot of gorgeous interpretations of sushi nails lately, but I did try to make mine “my own.”

Sushi nail art by @chalkboardnails

On my thumb, I put my bae tuna. My pointer is tamagoyaki, which honestly I chose more for it’s color than anything — I have only eaten it once! My middle finger is salmon, my ring finger is rice, and my pinkie is intended to look like avocado with sesame seeds.

Quick sidebar about the rice nail that might give you some insight into my brain: in hindsight, if I were to do this all over again, I would paint individual white grains of rice over a negative space clear nail. I think that would read more like rice and look cooler than what I attempted here. The grey patterning is hard to read.

Sushi nail art by @chalkboardnails

I used gel polish for this, but won’t be able to list out all of the materials I used. I did a lot of color mixing, layering, and blending, and beyond that, I wore this manicure a month or two ago and I don’t remember the specifics. Oops! 😇

Are you a sushi fan? What’s your favorite thing to order?

Your Sunscreen Might Be Failing You—Here’s What Dermatologists Wish You Knew

0

You wouldn’t skip your morning coffee—so why skip sunscreen? Wearing it daily can help protect your skin from skin cancer-causing UV rays from the sun, which we are exposed to practically every day. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer—in fact, it kills two people an hour in America. Therefore, making sunscreen and other sun-protection measures essential for skin cancer prevention and overall health. Beyond cancer risk, sun exposure can lead to painful burns, trigger flare-ups of certain skin conditions, and speed up visible signs of aging. But with so many sunscreens on the market… how do you choose the best one for your skin?

“Even on cloudy days or when running errands, an individual is exposed to more of the sun’s harmful UV rays than they might think,” says Redd. “UV damage can accumulate over time and put an individual at risk for premature aging of the skin and developing skin cancer as well.” That’s why knowing how to choose the best sunscreen for skin cancer prevention and overall skin health is so critical.

The fact that 1 in 5 Americans develop skin cancer in their lifetimes is sobering evidence that we don’t realize just how much we are exposed to UV rays throughout the day—even when we’re not out in the sun. Quick errands, a sunny car ride, sitting near a window, even prolonged screen time—all of it contributes to cumulative skin damage.

In addition to watching your skin for signs of trouble, wearing sunscreen and taking sun damage prevention measures can protect your skin and keep it looking younger and feeling healthier for years.

If you’ve ever found yourself wondering how to choose a sunscreen that will work the best for you, you’re not alone. It’s one of the questions our dermatologists get all the time! Lauren Redd breaks down the things you want to look for on the label:

“One of the most common mistakes is that people do not pick an SPF that is effective enough,” says Redd. “SPF tells you how long it would take the sun’s rays to cause a sunburn when using as directed versus without any protection. An SPF of 15 or less is usually not protective enough, especially when you’re out in the sun for prolonged periods.”

The higher the SPF rating, the fewer UV rays reach your skin. However, while the best sunscreen will have a higher SPF, keep in mind that the SPF level does not indicate how long you can play in the sun before developing a sunburn. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends wearing sunscreen with at least an SPF of 30 every day on all exposed skin. Remember, however, that each individual may have a different UV exposure threshold based on skin type. For example, people with pale skin burn more easily than people with darker skin tones who have more melanin. Sunscreen also wears off after a while, so:

The best sunscreen choices will say “broad spectrum” on the label. “A broad-spectrum sunscreen offers the best protection against both UVA and UVB light, which are both forms of light produced by the sun but at different wavelengths,” says Redd

UVB rays are primarily responsible for the painful sunburns. UVA, however, is the most common form of solar radiation we get on Earth, and it penetrates even more deeply, causing DNA damage and premature aging. Both of these can penetrate glass, fog, and clouds to reach your skin. This is why you need sunscreen that blocks them both.

“Spoiler alert—no sunscreen is truly waterproof,” says Redd. Sunscreen is a filter, not a shield. You sweat underneath it, and water washes over it—so it gradually breaks down.

That’s why the FDA only allows sunscreen to be labeled as water-resistant for either 40 or 80. You’ll find that information right on every bottle.

So, how often should you reapply sunscreen? It’s very clear:

Even if you’re dry, it’s smart to reapply every two hours—especially if you’re sweating or spending time outdoors.

Reading the ingredient list can feel overwhelming when you’re trying to choose the right sunscreen. Most formulas fall into two categories based on their active ingredients: mineral or chemical.

Although Redd often recommends mineral sunscreens as the best sunscreen options for people with sensitive skin, there is a place for a well-formulated chemical sunscreen, explains Redd:

“Chemical sunscreens work by converting harmful UV rays into non-damaging energy. However, patients with darker skin tones may prefer sunscreen instead of sunblock as they tend to be translucent instead of thick and white.”

Choose a sunscreen with fewer rather than more ingredients. Additives like fragrances, alcohol, and other irritants can aggravate sensitive skin and cause problems for people with skin conditions like eczema, acneor psoriasis. This is especially true when looking for the best sunscreen for face skin.

Everybody’s skin is different, and even for each individual, figuring out how to choose sunscreen for your arms and legs will be different than finding the best sunscreen for face skin, which is usually more sensitive. Here are some general rules to go by:

Applying sunscreen correctly matters just as much as wearing it—here’s how to get it right.

How Much Sunscreen Should I Use?

Redd says that you should use about a teaspoon for your face and a full shot glass amount for the whole body.

When Should I Put on Sunscreen?

Make sure to apply sunscreen at least 15 to 30 minutes before going outside and then reapply it every 2 hours.

How Do I Work Sunscreen into My Daily Skincare Routine?

“I usually recommend using your daily facial cleanser, then applying sunscreen or moisturizer with your SPF,” says Redd. “After a few minutes, when that is well absorbed, then you can layer on your makeup products. However, if you’re going to be exposed to the sun all day, remember to still apply sunscreen every 2 hours.”

It’s easy to miss a spot—and some areas are forgotten more often than others.

“The ears and neck are very commonly forgotten,” says Redd. “If you are traveling to a beach or a pool, the feet are also a commonly missed area. It is extra important that the most sun-exposed areas – face, neck, scalp (especially for bald individuals), hands, and forearms are protected.”

So before you leave the house (remember to pack sunscreen for reapplication), make sure to double-check and slather these areas with sunscreen:

Because everyone’s skin is different, it can take some trial and error to find the right one that will become part of your daily skincare routine:

“If you find that your sunscreen is irritating or bothering your skin, it may be time to try another type of sunscreen,” says Redd. “Also, if you repeatedly get sunburned despite sunscreen use, it may be time to reconsider increasing the SPF you are using or change to another type of sunscreen.”

If you find yourself in a situation like that, make sure to work with your dermatologist to find one that will provide strong protection while not irritating your skin. Sometimes it’s a matter of switching to mineral-based sunscreen from a chemical one.

Even the best sunscreen is a temporary filter—not a suit of armor. That’s why it works best as part of a broader sun protection routine. Think protective clothing, wide-brimmed hats, and sticking to the shade when the sun is strongest (typically 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

Sunscreen is still one of the most powerful tools you have for keeping your skin healthy. It’s not just about vanity—it’s about long-term wellness, cancer prevention, and aging gracefully.

Merit Holiday Sets 2025 – The Beauty Look Book

Merit Holiday Sets are here! I picked up the Mini Flush Blush Balm Trio ($39) and the Archival Lip Essentials Gift Set ($52). Both are available now at Sephora. You can see both in action here and here in case you want a live demo.

Archival Lip Essentials Gift Set

The Archival Lip Essentials Gift Set has three full-sized lip items with a new mauve shade called Archival. The set includes a Signature Lip Lightweight Lip Blush, Signature Lip Sheer Lip Liner and the Tinted Lip Oil.

The pencil and lipstick both pull very cool toned on me. I wasn’t sure they would work for my skin and lip tone since most cool colors look greyish on me, but they work! And the gloss really pulls the entire look together.

The Merit Signature Lip Sheer Lip Liner is very different from any other liner on the market. It’s almost like a glossy crayon in lipliner form. Unique for sure and nice for those who like a minimalist look. I love that they glide on the lips and have that glossy finish. Lasting power isn’t quite as long as a matte, but I think they’re really interesting.

The Lip Blush has a very lightweight feel, it’s a subtle kind of lip product but pigment is still very good. Texture is smooth even though it’s matte. This is very different from their other Signature Lipsticks. I tried their lipsticks a while ago when they launched and wasn’t a fan. They felt a little to waxy for my taste, but I might give them another look since so many of you love them. The new Lip Blush in this set is almost like a diffused matte lip tint instead of a regular lipstick. I’m still a glossy lip lover at heart, but I do like the texture and finish of the Lip Blush.

Lip Oils are nice for a subtle tint. These also pull on the sheer side for me but I really like them on top of a lipstick to add dimension and shine. They are very thin in texture so they’re not sticky. Also since the texture is thin they won’t have very long lasting power, but they do stay on longer when you pair them with a lipstick or liner.

I shared a demo of the lipliner and oils in this post here back in April. I don’t think I did a blog post on these so I swatched the shades I have so you can see the new Archival tones next to some of the existing colors.

Mini Flush Blush Balm Trio

I’ve had such mixed feelings about the Merit cream blushes because they’re usually too dewy and sheer for my skin but so many of you asked for a review on this year’s Mini Flush Blush Balm Trio Set. This year has definitely been a transition year for me with our move, aging and skin changes and it’s been noticeably more dry. I’m still in the process of finding a dermatologist since we moved, but since it’s been more dry I can wear more creams.

Merit Mini Flush Blush Balm Trio

I think these are so cute but I still think they are too dewy and creamy for my taste. They’re fun for a pretty flush of color and if you’re into cream blushes that blend to a sheer tint or like that dewy look then I think you’ll really like them.

I will be able to wear these for a night out but will most likely have to top them with a powder blush to set. For a dewy cream blush I think the Dior Backstage Rosy Glow Blush Sticks are better. For something that isn’t quite as dewy the Victoria Beckham Cheeky Posh Cream Blush Sticks or Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks are better options (for me).

I really love the look with these blended out, I just wish they weren’t as dewy looking. A satin or semi matte finish would be 100% perfect for me.

If you’ve had your eye on these I hope this review is helpful! You can find these now at Sephora.
