Unscented vs. Fragrance Free: What’s The Difference

0

When did we decide that clean should have a smell? It’s shocking how many people still don’t realize how toxic fragrance can be and the multitude of chemicals that can hide behind that one word. However, clean or fresh-smelling products win customers over and over again because scent is a sort of sorcery.

If you’re reading this post, then you’re probably nodding in emphatic agreement, but did you know that there’s a difference between products labeled as unscented and those labeled fragrance free? Yep, the powers that be are sneaky like that.

Unscented vs. Fragrance Free

In this post, I’m going to share about the differences between unscented and fragrance free products, so you can make a truly informed product decision for you and your family.

The next time you shop, you’ll know exactly how to spot hidden fragrances.

Unfortunately even our garbage bags we need to be checking for fragrances.

What Does Unscented Mean?

An unscented product may not have a noticeable smell, but that’s no indication of it being free of masking agents. Unscented products can contain small amounts of chemicals or essential oils to hide any base ingredient smells from oils, waxes, or surfactants.

What Does Fragrance Free Mean?

Fragrance free means that a product contains no fragrance at all, not even masking agents. The only fragrance comes from the natural ingredients that are in the product.

Fragrance free skincare and personal care products are a better option for those with sensitive skin or allergies, they are not a panacea, because the naturally occurring scents of ingredients in the product could be problematic for those with sensitivities to fragrance or prone to severe allergic reactions.

What Is The Difference Between Unscented And Fragrance Free?

Unscented products have no scent.

However, chemicals can be used to neutralize the odor of the product’s ingredients.

Fragrance-free products contain no added scent.

The ingredients in the product influence the smell of the product, so it’s possible that if lavender is used as a functional ingredient that the product could have a scent, even though it’s technically fragrance-free.

Make sure to check ingredient lists and packaging for fragrance.

How To Know If A Product Is Fragrance Free

If you have a sensitivity or an allergy to a particular ingredient, it’s important to check a product’s ingredient list and packaging carefully, before deciding if it’s safe or not. For example, say you are allergic to citrus, you may assume that a product labeled as fragrance free is safe, but it may not be.

If a product is fragrance free, then citrus couldn’t be used to scent the product, but it doesn’t mean that citrus isn’t used in a different capacity in the product.

Check the ingredient list

Fragrance ingredients include: fragrance, perfume, parfum, aroma, or essential oils. However if you’re trying to avoid all scent, you may find an ingredient such as Benzyl alcohol which has a pleasant scent in a fragrance-free product, but as a preservative.

Look for labels or badges on the product

Most products will have explicit labeling on the front of the package that indicates whether a product is fragrance free or unscented. Be forewarned that a product may say “no perfume” but that doesn’t mean it’s fragrance-free, that just means it’s unscented and could still contain masking agents.

Look for certifications or logos

Has the product been certified by a third-party organization?

For example, if a product has the AllergyCertified or the National Eczema Association seal, then you know that the product is fragrance-free because this is one of their requirements for certification. If a product has the EWG Verified™ seal it can contain fragrance, even though the product meets the Environmental Working Group’s strictest standards for health and transparency.

Review: New Formula The Body Shop Liquid Peels

0

The Body Shop’s liquid peels are back and updated with a new twist, promising all the glow without the show. Remember the original liquid peels? A bit of a letdown particularly for for those expecting miracles in a bottle.

Now, I’ve got the new Vitamin C Glow Revealing Liquid Peel and the Edelweiss Liquid Peel (formerly Drops of Youth just rebranded). The big question: Are they just another pretty face in the skincare lineup, or is there more than meets the eye this time around?

In this review, I’m going under the skin of these revamped peels. My days at The Body Shop from age 16 to 21 taught me a thing or two about what makes a product tick, so let’s see if these newcomers can do the heavy lifting they promise!

What do these peels do versus what they claim to do?

The Body Shop’s liquid peels, marketed for exfoliation, actually offer more illusion than true skin renewal, with their peeling effect coming from the product clumping rather than skin exfoliating.

These peels essentially provide a basic cleanse, using high alcohol content for a temporary smoothness that lacks real exfoliation or cell turnover benefits. The alcohol could also irritate, making it unsuitable for many.

Amidst these considerations, a particularly striking issue with the Vitamin C peel was its unsettling scent upon application — reminiscent of urine, a point confirmed during a hilariously candid exchange at a Body Shop store. This unexpected aspect further complicates its appeal, underscoring the gap between expectation and experience with these products.

For genuine exfoliation, turning to products with AHAs, BHAs, or enzymes is recommended. Despite offering an intriguing sensory experience, The Body Shop’s liquid peels miss the mark on providing the deep, effective exfoliation they advertise.

New Liquid Peel Ingredients

Diving into the nitty-gritty of The Body Shop’s revamped liquid peels, let’s take a closer peek at what’s changed, what’s new, and unfortunately, what dubious characters have decided to stick around.

Old Ingredients vs. New: A Mix-Up or a Clean-Up?

The original liquid peels had their fair share of eyebrow-raisers. High on alcohol and low on love, they left much to be desired. Fast forward, and we’ve got some changes on the bench. Notably, some of the more controversial elements seem to have been given the boot, but the core of the formula remains somewhat unchanged.

What’s Been Removed

  • Propylene Glycol: A humectant that’s common in skincare but can be irritating to some skin types, is no longer listed in the new formulations. This could be seen as a positive step towards a gentler product.
  • PPG-26-Buteth-26 and PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil: While still present, their roles seem to be diminished or adjusted in the new formulations. These are used as emulsifying agents but can be problematic for sensitive skin.
  • Parfum/Fragrance: Although still included, the shift could indicate a reformulation in the fragrance component, potentially reducing the risk of irritation for those sensitive to strong scents.
  • Isopropyl Alcohol: Not listed in the new versions, which might reduce the overall drying effect, though alcohol denat. remains a primary concern.
  • Quaternium-80, Behentrimonium Chloride, and Cetrimonium Chloride: These conditioning agents are not mentioned in the new ingredient lists, possibly moving towards a formulation that focuses more on the peeling effect than conditioning.

By removing certain ingredients like propylene glycol and isopropyl alcohol, The Body Shop appears to be aiming for a slightly less irritating formula. However, the persistence of alcohol denat. and carbomer underscores a continued reliance on these elements for the product’s primary ‘peeling’ effects.

What’s Been Added

  • Vitamin C Peel: Welcomes Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder, known for its soothing properties, and Myrciaria Dubia Fruit Extract, packed with vitamin C for that antioxidant punch.
  • Edelweiss Peel: Introduces Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil, a darling for its moisturising benefits, and Leontopodium Alpinum Flower/Leaf Extract, aiming to bring some of that alpine freshness to your skincare routine.

Carbomer and Alcohol: The Beauty and The Beast

The inclusion of carbomer and alcohol denat. is a bit like hosting a party and finding out your most controversial mates refuse to leave. Carbomer creates that satisfying peeling effect, making you think you’re shedding years off your face. However, it’s more smoke and mirrors than a magic wand for skin renewal. The real work of exfoliation isn’t happening as you might hope.

Alcohol denat., on the other hand, is the party guest that starts off fun but ends up drying out the vibe – literally. Its initial degreasing effect can feel cleansing and even exfoliating, but over time, it might just leave your skin feeling a tad too parched and possibly irritated, especially if your skin leans on the sensitive side.

In essence, while the new kids on the block bring some refreshing elements to the table, the lingering presence of alcohol and carbomer feels like a missed opportunity to really step up the game. It’s like swapping your chips for a salad but still going big on the cheese – better, but not quite there yet.

P1270250 Enhanced NR
P1270245 Enhanced NR

Would I recommend the new version of the peels? No.

In wrapping up, the revamped Body Shop liquid peels, despite their new ingredients and bold promises, still leave me wanting. To quote their own product page for the Edelweiss Liquid Peel:

“lifts impurities, pollutants and dead skin cells to leave you looking fresh-faced and glowy. Did we mention It’s suitable for sensitive skin too?”

Sourced 10th Feb 2024

I’m sorry but I just don’t see how they can make these claims. The sheer volume of alcohols alone makes it a total no-go in my recommendation for sensitive skin regardless of the dubious exfoliation claims.

The Body Shop’s liquid peels show promise with additions like soothing aloe and antioxidants, but the high alcohol and carbomer content limits their potential, missing the mark on true transformation. Real exfoliation, vital for healthy skin, is better achieved with AHAs, BHAs, or enzyme-based products.

This review highlights the necessity of careful ingredient choice and the pursuit of skincare that genuinely delivers. Amidst The Body Shop’s recent and heartbreaking administrative changes, it’s clear that keeping pace with innovative and effective skincare solutions is essential. While there are standout products within their wider skincare range, a broader update seems overdue to meet current standards.

Is it important to wash lash extensions? — EBLLashes

0

Washing your lash extensions is a must! It is a myth that you should not get your eyelash extensions wet. Or maybe you have heard that if you don’t get them wet they last longer. (yikes!) Throw this idea away and hear us out as to why you should be using a lash wash on your lash extensions.

Washing Lash Extensions will help avoid irritations and infections. Just like natural hair lash extensions need to be washed. Not washing your lash extensions will create oil, dust, and debris build up. This can result in  putting you at risk for an eye infection or irritation, which will lead to discomfort. Blepharitis is an inflammation of the eyelid. Your eyelid can get inflamed from build up causing the pores to get clogged. Keeping your lash extensions clean by washing them will keep you free of risk of blepharitis and other eye irritations. We recommend to wash your lash extensions with a lash wash.

Keeping your lash extensions clean will also result in them looking their best! If you are applying make up or products around your eyes those will also build up. That build up can result in messy lashes that also may clump together. Washing your face will help with the products on your face but it is important to do a specific wash for your lash extensions to prevent this. We recommend to throughly wash the eyelid, under the eye lid, and through the lash extensions with a cleanser brush. Our wash is a foaming wash so that it can help get in-between those lashes making it squeaky clean!

Keeping lash extensions clean maintains lash health. Clean lashes are essential for the overall health of the natural lashes. Regular cleansing helps remove excess oil, makeup residue, and dead skin cells, allowing the lashes to breathe and grow freely.

As a lash artist it is important for you to teach your clients these things. Teaching clients to have clean lash extensions will result in them coming back with more lashes, and less for you to clean!

Products Needed to Clean Your Lash Extensions:

Foaming Wash

This wash is specially formulated to clean eyelash extensions. It has a foam so that it can get in between those lashes and get them clean. EBL Foaming Wash is gentle on the eyes free of stinging and irritation.

Cleanser Brushes

We recommend to use our EBL Cleanser Brushes to really get in-between those lashes to make sure they are clean. The brushes are water proof. For sanitary purposes use a new brush per person.

How to Clean Your Lash Extensions:

Step 1. Apply 2 pumps of Foaming Wash per eye.

Step 2. Use Cleanser Brush  and gently brush in a downward motion as your eyes are closed. Brush the entire lash line. Also brush the eyelid under neath and above the eye. Repeat for other eye.

Step 3. Rinse with water until all product is removed

Step 4. Pat eye dry. Make sure not to rub on the eyelash extensions.

Shop our lash wash. Pair Lash Wash with a brush to make sure that you are getting in-between those lashes.  Have any questions? Feel free to email us hello@ebllashes.com You can also shop our other products at www.ebllashes.com

My Honest Take on the Lip Treatments

While the Peptide Lip Treatments tend to get the most buzz online, I’ve been much for impressed with the Rhode Peptide Lip Shape Pencil. It’s beautifully creamy and easy to use, but I’m still not completely sold on the texture of some of Rhode’s Pepetide Lip Treatments, hence why I’ve not yet featured them. I have tried a few, and a couple of them felt a bit crunchy in texture and overly sticky. They are well loved, but definitely not my top pick from the brand.

If you love that glossy-lip look but prefer a smoother, more cushiony feel, I’d genuinely recommend trying my REESON Glossing Balm* instead. I created it to deliver a high-shine, hydrated finish, with a softer, balmier texture. You can read more about it in my REESON Glossing Balm Review.

Where to Buy Rhode in the UK

Rhode is now officially stocked at Sephora UK* both online and in selected stores. You can also still buy directly from rhode.combut Sephora offers faster UK shipping and easy returns.

Final Thoughts

It’s so exciting to see Rhode finally launch at Sephora UK. It’s a brand that truly captures that clean, fresh, dewy-skin vibe we all love. I’ll keep updating my Rhode reviews as the line grows, but if you’re shopping the launch, those core skincare pieces are the ones to start with.

Venting Doesn’t Make You Less Angry. Here’s What Does

0

When you’re ticked off, it’s tempting to immediately text your mom or best friend to rehash all the gory details. But new research suggests that venting actually doesn’t work to help you calm down—and it may actually make things worse.

The findings contradict the way most people respond to anger, but taking a different approach can make a big difference in how you feel in the aftermath, Brad J. Bushman, PhD, study co-author and a professor of communication at The Ohio State University, tells SELF. “Just ranting about what happened with a friend is a bad idea,” he says.

Of course, it’s only human to have a reaction when you’re angry. So what’s the best way to work through this? Here’s what research—and mental health professionals—suggest.

What did the study find?

For the study, which was published in the journal Clinical Psychological Review, researchers analyzed 154 studies on anger that included more than 10,000 people. After crunching the data, they found little evidence that venting helped when people were upset, and that it may increase angry feelings. (You probably have a solid idea of what venting is, but Dr. Speakman says his team defined it as people expressing their anger verbally or physically, like kicking a punching bag, hitting a pillow, ranting, screaming, or swearing.)

The researchers also discovered that doing things like going for a run when you’re angry also didn’t help—it only kept people feeling worked-up. Instead, the only thing that brought anger levels back down was doing things that helped to calm and quiet the mind.

Why venting doesn’t work.

While venting is a go-to strategy for most people, there are a few reasons why it doesn’t work. “When people are angry, their arousal level increases,” Dr. Bushman says. “Venting just makes it go higher.”

Venting “doesn’t encourage things like problem-solving, taking a different view on things, and radical acceptance,” Aaron P. Brinen, PsyD, assistant professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, tells SELF. “It’s just continuing to fuel the anger and aggression,” he adds.

Venting also tends to go hand-in-hand with rumination, which is when you keep going over the same negative thoughts, Dr. Bushman says. “That’s like using gasoline to try to put out a fire,” he says. “It’s a very ineffective and destructive way to manage anger. It’s the worst thing you can do.”

What to do instead of venting

The big goal in the immediate aftermath of being upset should be to try to calm down, according to Dr. Bushman. “That’s why going for a run doesn’t work,” he says. “While it may be good for your heart, it’s not good to manage anger. It keeps those arousal levels high and anything that increases arousal is a bad idea.”

black cumin seed oil – HollyBeth Organics Luxury Skin Care

0

I’m constantly searching out new plants and oils to incorporate into to my products. Black Cumin Seed Oil, the newest weapon in my arsenal of powerful and effective organic ingredients, is hardly new. This ancient oil, derived from the seeds of the lovely Nigella Sativa flower, a member of the Buttercup family, has been a dynamic healer seemingly since the beginning of time.

Hipppocrates, referred to as the father of western medicine, considered black cumin a valuable remedy, while the first written reference to the oil can be found in The Old Testament. The prophet Muhammad stated that it’s “a remedy for every illness except death.”

Packed with over 100 beneficial chemical compounds, black cumin seed oil is a medicinal powerhouse. Studies show this wonder oil not only boosts immunity and treats a multitude of ailments, but it does wonders for the skin, hair and nails as well. It not only soothes psoriasis, eczema, acne, burns and infections, but it is a superb moisturizer, minimizing wrinkles and other signs of aging.

It’s also an essential component of my new Eye Serum. The latest introduction to the HollyBeth Organics skincare line fights signs of aging, dark circles and puffiness with an organic blend of black cumin seed, carrot seed, pomegranate seed and sandalwood essential oils.

TikTok Trends: Skin Cycling – skinfo

0

Here we are, wondering about yet another TikTok trend and if it works. Gen-Z has had us try our fair share of internet trends, but Skin Cycling may have some good advice behind it. What is Skin Cycling, and how will it improve your skin? The concept derives from using active ingredients (exfoliants and retinols) on certain days, followed by rest days. Cycles can be anywhere from 4-6 days, the most common being four days. Adopting this concept into your regimen can be helpful because it keeps the barrier of your skin healthy and happy.

Advanced Dermatology has been suggesting something like Skin Cycling for years called CORE4. Exfoliant + Growth Factor + Antioxidant + Sunscreen = CORE4. The only difference is “Cycling” does not include Sunscreen since this is needed every morning. How can you do this at home? Let me suggest some CORE4 products that are suitable for Cycling!

Night 1 and 2: Exfoliation/Repair = Retinol/ Antioxidant—SkinMedica® Retinol Complex 0.5 ($80, 1 oz), Avène RetrinAL Advanced Correcting Serum ($78, 1 oz) or skinfo® Vital Tea Regenerate Serum ($82, 1 oz) Followed by an antioxidant—skinfo® Brightening Vitamin C Serum ($108, 1 oz), Epionce® Renewal Facial Lotion ($102, 1.7 oz), or Skinceuticals® C E Ferulic ($169, 1 oz).

Night 3 and 4: Growth/ Repair = Growth Factor/ Antioxidant—DefenAge® 8-in-1 BioSerum ($165/$198, 1 oz/1.5 oz), skinfo® Tri-Nourish Restorative Nighttime Bio-Therapy ($86, 2 oz), or Neocutis® Bio Serum Firm ($275, 1 oz) followed by DefenAge® 24/7 Barrier Repair Cream ($95, 1.5 fl oz), Epionce® Renewal Facial Lotion ($102, 1.7 oz) or skinfo® Brightening Vitamin C Serum ($108, 1 oz).

This process may seem complicated, so another form of skin cycling is to use your Retinol every other night and the growth factor every other night. This routine protects your skin from over-exfoliation.

Another method of skin cycling is alternating new product introduction. Sometimes people complain about their skincare plateau ineffectiveness. You can reach a peak at 6 weeks of using it twice a day or once a day for 12 weeks.

Let’s say you had your eye on two different expensive growth strategies, and you can’t decide between them (or you don’t want to buy both.) Let’s consider that you want to try DefenAge® 8-in-1 BioSerum ($165/$198 1 oz/1.5 oz) but are using Neocutis® Bio Serum Firm ($275, 1 oz). So then use the Neocutis® Bio Serum Firm every other night and introduce DefenAge® Serum every other night. You are using both but cutting the usage in half so you can afford both because they each last twice as long. Another method is to stop the Neocutis® and use DefenAge® twice a day for 6 weeks, then do them every other night. But with this method, you will wash out of the effects of the Neocutis® by the 6th week.

It isn’t clear whether skin cycling is beneficial as there haven’t been any considerable scientific tests. We try to make everything work in 1 day with the CORE4, plus it seems easier to be doing the same thing every day. Our lives are very complicated already! But if this idea interests you, stop by skinfo® so we can help pinpoint how you can safely cycle your skin!

How to Build a Sick-Day & Medical Kit for College Students

0

Be ready for colds, injuries, and “I don’t feel good” – even when far from home

Moving out or living away from home for the first time is exciting. So much freedom and adulting to look forward to! But what happens when your child is not feeling well, and you can’t come to the rescue? Help your young adult prepare for inevitable sick days and minor injuries with essentials to provide comfort and relief, giving both them and you, peace of mind.

This guide will help you and your child gather some essential items. Spend some time together working on the kit to customize their preferences.

Sick day essentials

When feeling unwell, it’s nice to have a few essential items on hand to assess your health and provide comfort.

  • Thermometer – A simple-to-use digital thermometer that signals a fever with a colour change or beep and displays temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit.
  • Hot/Cold pack – Versatile to use hot or cold for muscle aches, headaches, menstrual cramps. It can be stored in a freezer or heated in a microwave. Always wrap the pack in a towel or thin fabric to protect the skin and limit use to about 15 minutes at a time.
  • COVID rapid tests – at-home nasal swab tests for quick screening
  • Surgical masks – to help prevent spreading germs when sick or doing group work
  • Hand sanitizer – carry a small bottle to use when handwashing is not convenient
  • Electrolyte tablets/powder – for rehydration during illness or after exercise
  • Eye drops for dry eye – soothing relief after long hours on screens and late nights
  • Favourite blanket or comfort item – feels like home (even big kids need stuffies)

Basic medicine cabinet

Include medications for common illnesses. Having easy access to medicines – day or night – can help manage minor complaints promptly. Most schools have medical clinics and pharmacies nearby for any additional or more serious health needs.

Review the instructions and dosing for each item and make sure they are aware of the ingredients to avoid duplication when combining products. Advise them to check expiration dates and avoid using any medication past its expiry to ensure safety and effectiveness.

A pharmacist can help you select products that are safe and easy to use and will inform you of any potential side effects or interactions with other medications. Remind your child that they can call any pharmacist for free if they have questions – there’s no such thing as a silly question!

  • Pain and fever relievers – ibuprofen or acetaminophen
  • Cold and flu medicines
    • Day/night combo pack for colds can be helpful, but keep in mind:
      • Daytime formulas may contain decongestants like pseudoephedrine or phenylephrine, which can be stimulating and may increase heart rate, blood pressure, or restlessness in some people
      • Nighttime formulas often contain antihistamines like chlorpheniramine or diphenhydramine which can cause drowsiness
    • Cough or sore throat lozenges
    • Cough syrup – if it’s something you commonly use at home for relief. Otherwise, it can be purchased as needed at a local pharmacy.
  • Acne treatments – hydrocolloid patches, spot treatments, or prescription products
  • Allergy medication
    • For seasonal allergies or unexpected reactions to new foods or insect bites.
    • Use 24 hour non-drowsy formulas containing cetirizine, loratadine, or desloratadine.
    • EpiPen – if prescribed for severe allergic reactions or anaphylaxis; replace if expired. They should teach roommates how to use it in case of emergency.
  • Anti-itch cream – mild corticosteroids like hydrocortisone are helpful for minor rashes, insect bites or other itchy spots
  • Anti-fungal cream – if prone to athletes foot or jock itch
  • Anti-nausea or motion-sickness medication
    • Ginger tablets can help with mild nausea and do not have side-effects
    • Dimenhydrinate can relieve nausea and vomiting but may cause drowsiness
  • Antacid for indigestion or upset stomach
    • Basic chewable formulas are effective for most situations
  • Anti-diarrhea medication – useful for individuals with sensitive digestion

First Aid Basics

Be ready for minor cuts, scrapes, and blisters with a basic first aid kit.

  • Bandages – variety of sizes
  • Antibiotic ointment – apply to cuts and scrapes, after washing with soap and water, and before applying the bandage
  • Tweezers – to remove splinters, disinfect before use
  • Alcohol wipes – to disinfect skin, tools, or hard surfaces

Important medical documents and contacts

Load a list of important contacts and images of medical documents in their phone, so they are easily accessible if they need to visit a pharmacy, dentist, medical clinic, or hospital.

  • Health insurance cards – front and back image
    • Provincial health card (a BC Services Card can be combined with a driver’s license)
    • Private insurance plan cards
  • Copies of prescriptions and drug information handouts
  • List of medical conditions and allergies, plus any treatment plans
  • Download London Drugs pharmacy app and link to their prescription profile so they can easily view their list of medications with images, read drug information, or order refills
  • Contact info for doctor, pharmacy, dentist, and on-campus medical services

Vaccines

Review your child’s vaccination record with a pharmacist or doctor to ensure they are protected against contagious diseases such as measles and meningitis – especially important if they are living in residence or other shared housing. Encourage them to sign up for flu and COVID-19 vaccine clinics on campus in the fall.

Prepare for a healthy school year

With a bit of preparation in the days leading up to moving out, your child will feel confident handling their basic medical needs or minor illnesses away from home. Remind them that a chat from home is just a phone call away – and so is a pharmacist. Encourage them to phone a pharmacist or visit a pharmacy if they need advice about their health, medications, or treatment for a minor illness.

Most pharmacies in Canada offer prescribing services for contraception and minor illnesses such as urinary tract infections, acne, pink eye, allergies, muscle aches, indigestion, and more. Many pharmacists in Alberta can also prescribe treatments for additional conditions including strep throat, asthma, diabetes, and others. To learn more about London Drugs prescribing services by province, visit Pharmacist Prescribing Services – London Drugs Pharmacy.

We’re here to support you through every stage of life – providing convenient and trusted care whenever you need it. Call or visit a London Drugs pharmacist to discover how we can help.

Why The Halo Is Celebrity Hairstylist Brittney Ryan’s Secret Weapon

0

When working New York Fashion Week, whether backstage at runway shows or glamming celebrities attending the shows, you need speed, efficiency, and versatile styling tools. That’s why the Sitting Pretty Halo is my go-to. It transforms hair instantly without the stress of traditional extensions, keeping clients (and me!) runway-ready in minutes.

Styling Myself at NYFW: Fast Glam on No Sleep

NYFW means long days, late nights, and I am running on fumes around the city from client to client. I fly in from LA and go straight to work, or start at sunrise the next day. This year, my Halo was my saving grace for keeping my look put together and polished.

How I Style My Halo for NYFW

  1. Air-dry natural hair.
  2. Add a few curls with a 1-inch curling iron.
  3. Curl The Halo to match.
  4. Slip on The Halo and blend.
  5. Finish with a texturizing spray for all-day volume.

The result? Big, voluminous hair that doesn’t flatten throughout the day, stays secure while running around the city, and looks flawless. even when the wind hits. I have longer hair and don’t need a full head of extensions day to day, so The Halo is ALWAYS my go-to to keep my hair from falling flat throughout the day.

Styling Celebrity Clients at NYFW with the Halo

At fashion week, my celebrity clients usually have more than one event to go to in a day, so our changes have to be quick and easy.  When using The Halo, I can create multiple looks in a day without ever taking it out.

Example: A Full NYFW Day with One Halo

  • Morning Look: Using The Halo, I created voluminous “cool girl” waves for a full, effortless look to attend the Tory Burch show.
  • Afternoon Change: Without removing The Halo, I used a larger curling iron, and set the curls to cool. After, I brushed them out to create a softer look, then pinned it half-up, creating a 60s Brigitte Bardot look. The Halo helped create the volume I needed and didn’t show when styling the hair half-up.

Backstage at NYFW: Why Models and Stylists Love the Halo

Models, especially those who walk in multiple shows, are always worrying about their hair being damaged by the pull of extensions. That’s why they love Halos because it is gentle on their hair. No pulling or scalp stress as they get their hair restyled for each show.

Stylists and Artists love the quick install.  A Halo can be applied in minutes, and when you’re styling 50 models for one show, time is of the essence.

The Halo isn’t just for celebs; it’s a backstage hero that helps both artists and models keep up with the pace of Fashion Week.
