Colour – Your suit palette is perhaps the first feature of your look that people will notice — so it’s critical to get this right. Essentially, you can go down three avenues to pinpoint the perfect suit colour: block, tonal and statement.

Block colouring is your more adventurous option — and it’s a big trend in men’s fashion for AW18. When you colour block your outfit, you go for bright panels of contrasting, solid colours. Think electric blue blazers with canary-yellow ties and pure-white shirts. This is a tough one to perfect, but the trick is to contrast warm and cool colours and then tone it down with a neutral shade. Something like a steel-grey suit jacket with a blush-pink shirt and lemon tie or a red tweed blazer over a forest green shirt.

Tonal colouring is almost the opposite of block colouring, as you choose a single shade and wear its variants. Say you go for purple. You could throw on a velvet jacket in a rich, dark plum shade over a lighter, mauve shirt and polish off the palette with a bright lilac tie or dickie bow. If you’re after something formal but slightly against the grain, corduroy and velvet are spot on. The former is a type of woven cotton with a distinctive, raised texture that looks especially good in a rust or maroon shade with a white shirt in a twill fabric — the slight shine of the shirt will contrast perfectly against the thicker corduroy.

For the ultimate in masculine luxury, try velvet or satin. If you’re going for this fabric, make sure you do it in style by opting for a dinner suit or smoking jacket in a rich, elegant shade — like royal blue or emerald green. As a thin, light, modest fabric; smooth broadcloth shirts look best with luxe velvet or satin blazers — scarves and pocket squares also look incredible with this jacket fabric.

Pattern – The pattern can seal the deal on a good and bad jacket-and-shirt combo — and the trick is to not splice different types in a single outfit. Either go for a patterned blazer or keep this plain and enhance your look via your shirt.

Window-pane checks are large and bold — ideal for making a statement at an event that matters. Pair this style with a block-colour shirt and plain tie for maximum effect. Smaller checks are also in-season, so switch it round — keep your blazer plain and go for an Oxford shirt with a burgundy base-colour with navy gingham checks.

Vertical stripes create a longer torso and look great on men dressing to impress in a smart jacket and shirt. High-contrast shades are best for stand-out impact — think two-stripe coral and white or multi-stripe red, navy and white — and remember to consider the weight of your stripe choice. The thicker the stripe, the less formal the event.

A paddle-brush pass ensured seamless distribution.

After blow-drying with a medium-vented round brush and carving out a deep, dramatic side part, Marcus then applied Joico Heat Hero Glossing Thermal Protector ($24). “One-inch sections were Marcel-curled toward the face and pinned to cool, then misted with Joico Power Spray Fast-Dry Finishing Spray ($22.50) to set for 15 minutes,” he explains.

Once released, Francis brushed the curls into soft, sculpted movement using a Mason Pearson brush. “Classic S-waves were shaped along the hairline with clips, and a final touch of Joico Curls Like Us Hydrate & Define Curl Crème Styler ($26) added sheen and definition.”

Last week, I attended a fun blogger event at Neiman Marcus here in Las Vegas to show off some of the fun, fabulous, and even affordable gift ideas that they had to offer! We got to sample some of their foodie gifts like pistachios, truffles, and liquor-soaked cakes – even uniquely flavored cotton candy! (They had PBJ!!!) There were gifts for foodies, beauty gifts, gifts for the entertainer, fashion gifts, even gifts for kids! Here are a few of my favorites!

GET IN MY BELLY!

Ummmm, I could’ve stationed myself next to these Bloody Mary Cashews all day. As far as cocktails go, a simple Bloody Mary will always be one of my favorites, so I knew that I had to try these – they’re $35 for an 8 oz. container, but would be such a fun addition to a bar-themed gift! They also make a Margarita Pistachio variety – and those were totally tasty, too!

Want to add a bit more flavor to your fries, burgers, or well, anything? For the gourmet food lover in your life, there is this trio of gourmet ketchups from Victoria Amory for $34. With flavors like Sherry, Champagne, and Smokey BBQ, they’re sure to be a hit! I’ll be honest, I’m hella curious about that champagne one, can someone get me a hot dog?!

Speaking of champagne, these Marc de Champagne truffles from House of Dorchester were SO good – lord knows that I shouldn’t have tried them with all my diabetic-ness, but this girl can’t resist chocolate, so in I went! Pro tip: eat in one bite, or you’ll end up with caramel drooling down your chin like I did. I’m obviously very sophisticated. Neimans also has a Pink Prosecco variety, and both kinds come in a champagne bottle-shaped tin! SO cute for the champs OR chocolate lover in your life. Hint: as I already said, I LOVE chocolate. 😀

Here comes Carl! Isn’t he the cutest little snowman you ever saw?! Not only is he adorable, but he’s delicious, too! Simply add warm milk, and he melts revealing a belly full of cocoa mix and a head full of marshmallows. He might just be the perfect man, amiright?! He’d be such a fun gift for a family get-together or as a hostess gift for a holiday party!

I’ve been following Maayan Zilberman, the creative force behind Sweet Saba, for ages on Instagram. As someone who has done sugar work in culinary school, I’m fascinated by her unique creations, and I’m not the only one – she’s created sugar pieces for Vogue, Versace (for the Met Ball!), Harper’s Bazaar, even NYFW! FEELING GOOD & SMELLING FINE

If you know me, you know that I LOVE LOVE LOVE fragrance, but you won’t find me wearing just any ole’ scent. I stick to scents that you don’t come across every day, scents from Tom Ford, Byredo, and now my latest love… CREED. No, not the terrible band – this perfumery has been around since 1760, so they definitely know what they’re doing. I will warn you though, Creed isn’t a budget brand. With their high-end ingredients and time-consuming methods, a bottle of Creed fragrance will run you anywhere from $235 to over $500 for a 75 mL bottle! I’m currently obsessing over Spice & Wood, which was inspired by Cleopatra and Marc Antony, and I recently tested it out at the Neiman Marcus counter. Seriously droolworthy, and just look at that bottle, it was hand crafted by centuries-old Parisian glassmaker Pochet, and it has real 24k gold accents!

CREED doesn’t just stick to traditional fragrances, they also create soaps, shower gels, bath oils, and candles. This gift box they put together contains a few of those products as well as Floralie in the limited edition bottle!

FUN WITH FASHION

We all know her, heck we may BE her. Always up on the latest designers, trends & labels, always dressed to impress, the trendsetter, not the follower. Here are a few fun (and maybe unexpected) gifts for the style maven in your life.

The current US prestige beauty market, which includes top brands like Chanel, Dior, Estée Lauder, La Mer, and Charlotte Tilbury, is valued at $124 billion, according to a recent report from global management consulting firm Kearney. The report, “Prestige Beauty Consumer Index: The next frontier of US beauty consumers,” explores survey responses from 1,000 beauty consumers to understand better the nuances of the current market and how prestige brands can continue to grow despite strong economic headwinds.

To glean greater insights into the report’s findings, including the impact of science-driven innovation on the prestige beauty category’s market share, the growing influence of biotech, and the new demands of a younger consumer demographic, CosmeticsDesign spoke to, according to a recent

Efficacy over heritage

One of the strongest findings from the report was a noticeable shift in consumer desire to understand product efficacy rather than a brand’s legacy or history. As a beauty buyer’s interest continues to evolve from “brand heritage storytelling to science and efficacy storytelling, that means real changes in how brands invest,” said Perim.

Therefore, industry stakeholders can expect “more focused R&D budgets on ingredients and formulations that drive visible results, fewer but bigger bets on innovation, and heavier use of clinical and consumer testing to validate claims,” she explained. Additionally, collaborations with dermatologists or other industry experts will likely provide greater influence on consumer purchasing decisions.

Perim added that moving forward, she expects successful brands in the prestige beauty space will be the ones researching “the next hero SKU for this new, proof-driven consumer” and building around this concept.

Biotech’s role in prestige beauty

Biotechnology and clinical proof, therefore, will continue to emerge as key drivers for beauty brands to reach the “rational consumer” better, and Kearney’s research “shows that biotech is still emerging, resonating most strongly with a specific, high-spending segment, who view it as the cutting edge of beauty and the bridge between skincare and healthcare,” said Perim. She characterized innovations in biotechnology as a “growth frontier,” but cautioned that it is not yet mass-market, as many promising discoveries are still in the R&D stage and hold notable future potential.

In contrast, clinical validation is much more substantiated, with Perim describing it as a “foundational trust marker,” for beauty consumers. Kearney’s research notes that “across personas, more than 80 percent of consumers say scientific proof and dermatologist-backed claims influence their choices,” demonstrating that “clinical validation transforms performance from promise to proof,” she said.

Moving forward, prestige brands can use these tools in tandem to bolster credibility, help consumers rationalize purchases, and retain consumer trust. “Brands that balance both proof today and innovation for tomorrow, will be the ones that earn enduring prestige and consumer loyalty,” she said.

The next generation of consumers

Kearney’s report also examined the landscape of the emerging Gen Z prestige beauty buyer, for whom “beauty is evolving into an expression of identity as much as appearance,” said Perim. The survey found that over half of respondents who identified themselves as part of this demographic reported “beauty helps them express who they are, experiment, and connect with their communities,” she shared.

However, she cautioned that this shift should not be a push for companies in the category to evolve into a “creativity brand.” Rather, “opportunity is to interpret self-expression through your brand’s own lens,” she explained, which could translate into marketing campaigns that explore bold storytelling, inclusivity, authenticity, craftsmanship, or even a celebration of individuality.

“What matters is that each brand’s emotional positioning feels purposeful and true to its DNA, [and] the brands that get this right, those that balance credible science with emotional resonance, will be the ones that stay relevant and inspiring to the next generation,” she said.
