Get Rid Of Tired Skin For Good – Merindah Botanicals

0

Let’s be honest—most of us have looked in the mirror and wished our reflection felt a little more us.

A little brighter. A little fresher. As we age, our skin naturally changes—and sometimes that inner glow we feel doesn’t quite make it to the surface.

But here’s the good news: there are simple, effective ways to bring life back to a lacklustre complexion.

Reconnect with Your Skin

First things first: your skin tells the story of your life. Rather than battling every line or blemish, try seeing your skincare routine as an act of connection, not correction. The more love and patience you bring to your reflection, the more radiant you’ll feel.

Energy Shines Through

A fresh outlook can literally lighten your face. When you’re feeling confident and vibrant, it shows—especially around the eyes and mouth. Fine lines feel softer. Skin looks more awake. So don’t underestimate the power of your mindset.

Exfoliate the Right Way

Dull skin often just needs a little encouragement. A gentle exfoliating scrub a couple of times a week can lift away tired cells and reveal a brighter layer underneath. Use soft, circular motions and avoid over-scrubbing—your skin will thank you.

Dry Brushing = Instant Boost

Dry brushing isn’t just trendy—it boosts circulation, helps drain lymphatic fluid, and gives your skin a smoother, healthier look. Just a few minutes before your shower can leave you feeling refreshed from the inside out.

Choose Smarter Skincare

What you put on your skin matters. Look for products with clean, nourishing ingredients—and be open to switching things up. As your skin changes, your skincare should too. Don’t be afraid to test and tweak until you find the perfect fit.

Try Natural DIY Remedies

Sometimes the simplest tricks are the most effective. Tired eyes? Soak two green tea bags in cool water and rest them on your eyes for five minutes. The antioxidants and anti-inflammatory benefits work fast.

Live Well, Look Well

You’ve heard it before, but it’s always worth repeating: a healthy lifestyle is the best skincare you can invest in. Staying hydrated, moving your body, getting enough rest, and eating real food all contribute to a natural glow that no serum can replicate.

Your skin isn’t meant to be perfect. It’s meant to reflect your life, your energy, and your story. With a few mindful habits and the right attitude, dullness doesn’t stand a chance.

What is “Clean” or “Organic” Skincare? – skinfo

0

The trend in skincare is “clean”, “natural” or “organic”. But what does that mean and is it important? These buzzwords are used by various people to mean either without certain ingredients, with plant-based ingredients, with organic plant-based ingredients, or not tested on animals (“cruelty-free”). The main ingredients people avoid are parabens, phthalates, mineral oil, fragrances, sulfates, SLS, SLES, formaldehyde, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, and triclosan.

Let’s first discuss parabens. This is a preservative. Why do we need preservatives? Because bacteria and fungi like moist things, like skincare products, and tend to grow in there unless we have something that keeps them at bay. Otherwise, we will be going to the store for fresh skincare every day or few days, just like we get our vegetables. Parabens happen to be one of the most effective preservatives. They have been well studied and at the tiny concentrations that are used, it is highly unlikely that they can cause problems. They are believed to be “estrogenic” ie could promote breast cancer, as they have been isolated from breast tissues. However, in a statement from the American Cancer Society, there is no evidence that these cause breast cancers. Obesity and taking hormone supplements have a far higher rate of contribution to breast cancer than preservatives. One problem with parabens is that they do cause contact allergies in 3% of people, meaning itchy red skin.

There is better evidence that significant exposure to phthalates can cause some health issues. Phthalates are used to soften plastic and improve the spreadability of skincare products. Again, the issue is, how much is significant exposure? One good thing is that phthalates stay in the body for only 5 hours, so they do not accumulate. Excessive exposure has been shown to cause hormone disruption, particularly for children or pregnant women, as well as reduced testicular development in male fetuses. However, there is now a mountain of evidence that these chemicals do contribute to a multitude of health issues, but they are so ubiquitous in our food supply and skincare and aren’t even required to be listed! There are movements afoot to regulate their  usage. One way to avoid them is to avoid plastic, especially in food containers, so the plastic doesn’t touch the food. If you can move your food to a glass container after you purchase it, that would be wise.

Mineral oil is a liquid by-product of refining gasoline and other petroleum products. It is a transparent and colorless oil and has a low density. When it is highly refined (such as in most skincare products), it is not carcinogenic. It is used widely in many industries and orally as a laxative. The highly refined version is not usually comedogenic (acne-inducing). In skincare products, it is moisturizing by helping to reduce water loss. Since it is inert, it is usually not irritating. Baby oil is mineral oil with fragrance. It gets a bad name due to its association with petroleum as well as claims it is pore-clogging, but it is an effective moisturizer that is non-irritating.

Sulfates such as SLS and SLES are produced from both petroleum and coconut or palm oil and create lathering in shampoos, liquid soaps, laundry and dish detergents, and toothpaste. They are disliked due to their association with petroleum and are mistakenly believed to be carcinogenic. Their main drawback is that they can cause skin irritation if left on for too long, or if the skin is sensitive. Also, if they are inhaled, they can damage the lungs. Palm oil is controversial due to the destruction of tropical forests to make way for palm tree plantations. Many products with sulfate are tested on animals, another contentious area for clean skin proponents. Although sulfates in their current concentration don’t appear to cause significant side effects, if any of these side effects do disturb you, there are sulfate-free alternatives that don’t foam or lather. This won’t interfere with how clean you get, but cleansing may be somewhat less enjoyable!

In part 2 in the next newsletter (coming soon!), we will take on the other ingredients in the “clean” hit list. Also remember that everything around us as well as in us is a chemical (even water is considered a chemical, it is H2O), so not all chemicals are toxic. The people most susceptible to toxicity in substances are unborn fetuses, babies, children, and pregnant women. Toxic substances affect children the most since the recommended threshold % of chemicals is created for adults and is a higher percentage for children’s bodies because they weigh less overall and also they have developing organs that could be more susceptible to damage than already formed organs.

    How to Apply PureMatch

Choose the PureMatch Liquid Concealer shade that best matches your skin tone to conceal imperfections, even out skin tone and mask discoloration. Use the tip of the applicator for targeted application, like concealing blemishes or small areas of discoloration. For larger areas you want to conceal, lay the applicator flat and apply a swipe of product to the face. For a more precise application, use the Camouflage Brush to blend. For all over concealing, use the Blending/Contouring Brush to blend and camouflage.

To use our PureMatch Liquid Concealer as highlighter, apply your brighten shade in the inner corner of the eyes, on the tops of the cheekbones, in the center of the forehead, in the center of the chin and down the bridge of your nose.

The key to using our PureMatch Liquid Concealer as contour, is to use a shade that is deeper than your complexion to sculpt and create definition. Apply this shade on the temples, on the sides of the nose, under the cheekbones and under the jawline. Then, blend it out with a Blending/Contouring Brush.

Review: SVR Ampoule Hydra B3 Serum

    0

In the vast world of skincare, stumbling upon a product that genuinely works is always a win. That’s exactly what happened with the SVR Ampoule Hydra B3 Serum for me. I found it through Renude.co and have been using it for over two years now. It’s turned out to be a solid, reliable part of my skincare regime as this serum from a French pharmacy brand has become such a regular in my routine.

    What SVR Promises

SVR positions its Ampoule Hydra B3 Serum as a solution for those battling sensitive, dehydrated skin, and the visible signs of aging. The formula, rich in vitamin B3 (niacinamide) and hyaluronic acid, is crafted to strengthen the skin’s barrier, hydrate intensively, and alleviate discomfort. The brand highlights these benefits:

    • Immediate reduction in skin tightness and discomfort.
    • Long-term effects including plumper skin and reduced signs of aging.
    • Significant hydration boost within hours of application.

    Deep Dive into Ingredients

    • Niacinamide (Vitamin B3): A powerhouse ingredient known for reinforcing the skin barrier, reducing inflammation, and improving texture.
    • Hyaluronic Acid: Comes in three molecular weights for multi-level hydration, penetrating different layers of the skin.
    • Glycerin: A humectant that attracts moisture, keeping the skin hydrated and supple.
    • 1,2-Hexanediol and Caprylyl Glycol: Act as humectants and emollients, enhancing skin hydration and texture.

Note: The minimalist formula, devoid of fragrance and non-comedogenic, is especially designed for sensitive skin and something I have really appreciated as some recent medication sent my skin into sensitivity overdrive!

    What is Niacinamide?

The main ingredient in SVR Ampoule Hydra is Niacinamide, also known as Vitamin B3. Niacinamide is a standout ingredient in the skincare world, renowned for its genuine versatility and range of skin benefits. It’s a water-soluble vitamin that works with the natural substances in your skin to help visibly improve enlarged pores, uneven skin tone, fine lines, dullness, and a weakened skin surface.

    Key Benefits of Niacinamide

    1. Strengthens Skin Barrier: Niacinamide helps build proteins in the skin and locks in moisture to prevent environmental damage.
    2. Reduces Redness and Blotchiness: Its anti-inflammatory properties make it effective in reducing redness caused by eczema, acne, and other inflammatory skin conditions.
    3. Minimises Pore Appearance: It helps to reduce the impact of environmental damage due to its ability to improve skin’s elasticity, encouraging a more tightened and smooth skin texture.
    4. Regulates Oil Production: Useful for both dry and oily skin, niacinamide can regulate the amount of oil the sebaceous glands produce and prevent your glands from going into overdrive.
    5. Protects Against Sun Damage: Niacinamide can concurrently rebuild healthy skin cells while also protecting them from damage caused by ultraviolet rays.
    6. Treats Hyperpigmentation: Studies have shown that it can reduce some signs of sun damage that come with aging, such as dark spots and fine lines.

In essence, niacinamide is a multifaceted ingredient that addresses a wide array of skin concerns, making it a valuable addition to many skincare products for different skin types and conditions.

Personal Experience: A Reliable Skin Partner

My experience with the SVR serum has been very positive. It’s easy to apply and I definitely feel the difference when I skip it. The serum has a soothing effect right away and does a good job of keeping my skin hydrated. What I find really useful is that it seems to make my moisturisers work better. It’s gentle enough for frequent use, which is great for anyone with sensitive skin like mine.

I use the pipette to dispense a small amount onto my fingers, then gently massage it onto my face. The pipette tends to release more of a blob rather than precise drops, so it doesn’t take long to figure out the right amount needed for full coverage.

I’ve found that it works best when applied to freshly washed skin that’s still warm and more receptive to products. After using a facial mist (currently the Wishtrend Klairs Fundamental Ampule Mist) I wait about 30 seconds before applying this serum and it sinks in well.

    P1270210 Enhanced NR 2

    SVR: A Brand Worth Noticing

Despite its relatively low profile compared to some of the giants in the French pharmacy space, SVR’s performance is definitely not to be underestimated. My experience with this serum has completely changed how I view the brand. Before, I definitely passed by their products without a second thought, but now, I find myself actively seeking them out as a trusted go-to.

Growing up between Spain and the UK, I’ve seen SVR’s presence expand significantly, especially in Spain where it’s becoming increasingly visible. In the past few years, it’s almost as if SVR products are everywhere, catching up with more well-known brands. This growing visibility, combined with such a great experience I’ve had with their serum, has really highlighted SVR as a brand with both substance and potential.

    Conclusion

The SVR Ampoule Hydra B3 Serum is more than just another addition to a skincare routine; it’s an investment in skin health. For those with sensitive, dry skin or concerns about aging, this serum offers a gentle yet powerful solution. Its efficacy in hydrating and soothing the skin, combined with its ability to amplify the benefits of other skincare products, makes it a worthy contender in the realm of skincare essentials.

Rebecca Gayheart’s Mini Facelift: What to Know

    0

The era of transparency around cosmetic procedures is quite layered. While some celebrities openly share technical details and surgeon specifics, others choose a more personal path by recounting the emotional side of their journey. The latest to speak candidly is model and actress Rebecca Gayheart. In an interview on the Broad Ideas podcast, hosted by  Rachel Bilson and Olivia Allen, Gayheart detailed her recent plastic surgery experience, addressing everything from why she chose to go under the knife to what recovery really looked like.

Reflecting on a few “rough years,” the Jawbreaker star explained that she’d developed a growing issue with the skin around her eyes—specifically, one drooping eyelid that appeared almost closed in photos. To correct it, she turned to Beverly Hills plastic surgeon and childhood friend Jason Diamond, MD, for an upper blepharoplasty. She also underwent a lower mini facelift to address jowls and neck laxity, changes she noticed after turning 52.

The choice, Gayheart stresses, was deeply personal. She believes in normalizing plastic surgery as part of aging and wanted to look a little less tired, address her concerns in “one fell swoop,” and stop feeling self-conscious about one noticeably droopy eye. It was her first surgery of any kind, and while she admits the recovery felt intense—especially the swelling—she praised Dr. Diamond’s soft touch and meticulous focus.

Gayheart also spoke about how she approached the topic with her daughters, Billie and Georgia. More important than public transparency, she said, was being open with them. “The tricky part was my daughters…I was honest without divulging everything,” she shared. “I explained to them this is possibly going to make me feel better about myself, and I think that’s OK.”

The Beverly Hills, 90210 alum summed up her decision to go public—and why she addressed it head-on on Instagram. “I didn’t want people to think that at 54 you don’t have jowls, because you do—I just got rid of mine,” she said. “That’s all normal. You can keep it and it’s great, but I think [the decision to undergo surgery] is just about how you feel.”

    Fuchsia-nista

Clear base with multi-chrome flakes in shades of fuchsia, purple, and copper

    Opacity scale (1-5): 1

Finish: Flake, 3+ coats to be opaque

    Yes Weekend!

Clear base with multi-chrome flakes in shades of the rainbow

Ooooh, I love me some weekend energy! This one seems to have the whole rainbow tucked away in this little bottle! Flakes change color from every angle, and you’ll see flashes of gold, copper, purple, green, and well, pretty much name it.

    Opacity scale (1-5): 1

Finish: Flake, 3+ coats to be opaque

    Love Thy Selfie

Clear base with multi-chrome flakes in shades of purple, blue and pink

I love the sentiment behind the name of this polish – it’s tough in this world of social media. We all see these picture-perfect glimpses into others lives and it’s difficult not to compare ourselves to that formulated ideal. Love your damn self! :D. This happens to be my favorite of the flakies in this collection, too!

    Opacity scale (1-5): 1

Finish: Flake, 3+ coats to be opaque

So, tell me…what do you think of this collection? What are your favorites? My top picks are I Cat Even, Love They Selfie, and Santa Claws! 🙂 (Taupe Notch is right on their heels, though!

A Fair Girl’s Dream or a Dermatology Nigh – skinfo

Growing up as a Fitzpatrick Skin type 1 was difficult. My mom would lay out in the sun for hours, while I, having inherited my dad’s Irish skin, would instantaneously burn on family vacations if I didn’t put sunblock even on the tops of my feet. When prom season rolled around in high school, I was jealous of all my friends’ gorgeous, tanned skin as I stood there like an uncomfortable porcelain doll. If someone told me a decade ago that they had the answer to lasting bronzed skin in a simple inhalant, I would have given my left leg to avoid dealing with the constant exfoliation, staining, and lingering smell of self-tanners containing traditional DHA (dihydroxyacetone).

Melanotan II is a synthetic analog of the peptide hormone alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) that stimulates melanogenesis. Originally researched in the 1960s for sexual dysfunction, this drug soon showed changes in melanin in red-haired mice. Scientists hoped to use these newfound peptides to combat melanoma by stimulating the body’s natural pigmentary mechanism to create a tan without first needing exposure to harmful levels of UV radiation. This, in turn, they hypothesized, could reduce the potential for environmental damage that can eventually lead to skin cancer. In 2006, Competitive Technologies, a technology transfer company operating on behalf of the University of Arizona, licensed the drug as a tanning agent. One short year later, the FDA issued a warning to an American online vendor illegally marketing Melanotan II on the internet as a drug that prevents skin cancer and assists in tanning. The FDA had not licensed Melanotan II and explained the following: “There is no evidence that the product is generally recognized as safe and effective for its labeled uses.” The FDA concurrently gave a blanket warning, advising consumers to “stop using Melanotan II, an unapproved product.”

At the beginning of 2022, The BBC put out an article on the rise of inhalant and injectable tanners containing Melanotan-II seen promoted on social media stars’ Instagram and Tik Tok accounts. Google searches for “tanning nasal spray side-effects” and “how to use tanning nasal spray” have soared lately due to the appeal of this quick fix for any pale person’s insecurity. This Barbie drug is commonly sold for less than $29 and is available in an injectable and slightly less evasive nasal inhalant form. When injected under the skin, some vendors of this black-market product suggest “activating” the hormone by using a deadly tanning bed. Other risks of jabbing include acne, hyperpigmentation, stomach pains, eye disorders, seizures, heart problems, and life-threatening stage 1 Melanoma. Sharing needles can lead to blood-borne diseases like hepatitis or HIV. If an untrained individual injects substances, skin and tissue damage can occur. The mucous membrane in the nose is thin and has a lot of blood vessels. This allows sprays to penetrate the body quickly, leading the nasal spray to be a more prominent option for beauty influencers. Side effects of taking Melanotan II nasally include nausea, dizziness, darkening of moles, serious allergic reaction such as anaphylaxis, facial flushing, changes in appetite, and sexual side effects like increased erections due to the hormone used.

Society still places high importance on the appearance and acquisition of a tan. To this date, the only safe way to get a tan is from a bottle. A woman from the UK had parts of her skin turn black and had abscesses across her stomach after using the Barbie drug. Chantell Tolson, an influencer, told The Sun she injected herself with the Barbie drug more than 100 times in four months stating, “I used to think I was ugly without a tan. I was so desperate I tried everything without thinking about any possible health risks. I did it all for vanity, but now I am covered in scars for the rest of my life.” Among the many concerns that doctors have brought up about the trend, a major one is that the nasal tanning sprays aren’t FDA approved, nor are they approved by any other country either. TikTok is doing its best at taking down most of these misleading and dangerous nasal spray tan videos. In a statement to Today, the platform said, “Our community guidelines make clear what content is allowed on TikTok. Our policy on illegal activities and regulated goods prohibits the promotion of nasal tanning sprays, and we have removed the videos that you have shared with us.” So next time you’re scrolling through social media, if you see something that seems too good to be true, it most likely is, let alone a dermatologist’s nightmare. I know I’d rather deal with the minor inconveniences of current self-tanners for my insecurities than the risk of skin cancer.
