My Review of the byfrow Pigment Pencils

My Review of byfrow Pigment Pencils
My Review of byfrow Pigment Pencils

I am in my lip pencil era so I was delighted to get to try out these brand new pencils from Victoria.

Formula & Performance

The texture is soft and creamy, but with enough grip to define the lips cleanly. They’re nice and easy to blend, making them great for full-lip looks or blurred edges.

Pigmentation:
Buildable, but strong from the first swipe. The deeper shades (Dark Roast, Cherry Berry) are intensely pigmented.

Longevity:
They last comfortably through drinks and light snacking. For heavier meals, some touch-up is needed, which is pretty normal for creamy pencils.

Comfort:
The texture is not drying, even worn all over the lips, and they feel flexible and lightweight.

Sharpening:
Use a high-quality sharpener. The sustainable wood is sturdy and sharpens cleanly.

Ingredients & Skin Feel

Key points:

  • Vitamin E adds smoothness and helps prevent that tight, waxy lip-liner feel.
  • Plant-based waxes create the creamy glide.
  • Vegan & dermatologically tested – worth noting for sensitive skin types.
  • Sustainable wood + aluminium cap for a more eco-conscious makeup bag.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Beautifully curated shade range
  • Creamy but precise
  • Vegan and sustainably packaged
  • Multi-use (lips, cheeks, eyes, freckles)
  • Blendable and beginner-friendly
  • Great for shaping and sculpting

Cons

  • Some shades not suitable for eyes in specific regions
  • Requires a sharpener (no twist-up option)

How to Use byfrow Pigment Pencils

  • For Definition & Overlining

Start at the cupid’s bow and draw slightly above your natural lip line. The creamy texture makes this very forgiving.

Shade in the entire lip for that blurred, matte-but-not-dry finish. Works incredibly well with a balm over top.

Warm the pencil on the back of your hand and tap onto cheeks. Toasted Rose and Pink Sorbet are gorgeous for this.

Sharpen to a fine point, dot lightly, then tap with fingers to soften.

byfrow recommends pairing with The Lip Companion, which gives that plump, glossy finish over your sculpted base.

Comparisons

If you’re familiar with other multi-use or sculpting pencils, here’s where the byfrow Pigment Pencils sit:

  • Creamier and more blendable than traditional wooden lip liners
  • Not as slippy as chubby crayons
  • A hybrid between a precision liner and a creamy colour stick

Where to buy them

The byfrow Pigment Pencils are £18 each and available now via the link below:

Final Verdict

The byfrow Pigment Pencils are super versatile, flattering, and easy-to-use. The shades are wearable without being boring, the formula is creamy without being messy, and the multi-use element makes them perfect for a streamlined makeup bag.

If you’ve been watching more hair strands spiral down the drain lately, I have some good news for you. Whether you’re dealing with a receding hairline, thinning crown, or unexpected shedding, there’s one hormonal villain often lurking behind the scenes: DHT. But what if the answer isn’t buried in a bottle of prescription meds or pricey serums? What if the key to stopping hair loss lies in your kitchen or garden?

Here’s a list of natural DHT blockers that are backed by science, revered by holistic dermatologists, and trusted by trichologists worldwide to stop your hair loss naturally.

First, What Is DHT? And Why Is It Wreaking Havoc On Your Hair?

DHT, or dihydrotestosterone, is a powerful androgen (a type of hormone) derived from testosterone. While it plays a crucial role in male characteristics and libido, it also binds to receptors in your scalp and shrinks hair follicles, causing them to miniaturize over time.

The result? Weaker strands, shorter growth cycles, and eventuallyhair loss.

This is most commonly seen in androgenetic alopecia (also known as male or female pattern baldness), which affects over 50 million men and 30 million women in the U.S. alone.

Why Choose Natural DHT Blockers Over Medication?

Okay, so here’s the thing meds like finasteride and dutasteride do work to block DHT (that hormone messing with your hair). But they also come with a bunch of not-so-fun side effects: think mood swings, low libido, and hormonal chaos.

That’s why a lot of people are switching to natural DHT blockers. They’re way gentler on your body, don’t mess with your hormones, and actually nourish your scalp and hair instead of just treating the symptoms. Plus, many of them (like pumpkin seeds or green tea) are good for your overall health too.

Natural DHT Blockers That Actually Work

Let’s deep dive into the most effective and science-backed natural DHT blockers, categorized for easier understanding and integration into your daily routine.

Saw Palmetto

Let’s talk about one of the best natural DHT blockers, saw palmetto. It’s this little berry that grows in the southeastern U.S., and it’s been used in herbal medicine forever.

So, what makes it special? It basically blocks the enzyme (5-alpha-reductase) that turns testosterone into DHT, the hormone that’s thinning your hair. And it’s one of the few natural ingredients that targets both Type I and II forms of that enzyme.

Pretty impressive for a berry, right?

You can take it as a supplement, usually around 160 to 320 mg a day, or look for it in scalp oils and serums made to help with hair fall. And yes, this one’s got science on its side. A 2012 study found that people using saw palmetto topically actually saw fuller hair and less shedding. So yeah, it’s not just hype.

Pumpkin Seed Oil

Okay, this one’s a total gem. Pumpkin seed oil is made by cold-pressing pumpkin seeds, and it’s packed with zinc and these plant compounds called phytosterols that help block DHT naturally.

Here’s how it works:it slows down the same 5-alpha-reductase enzyme that turns testosterone into DHT. Plus, it has anti-inflammatory benefits, which means it calms your scalp while working on hair fall.

You can take one tablespoon a day (yep, just drink it) or use it in DIY hair masks. It also makes a great pre-shampoo oil if your scalp needs some extra love. Bonus? It’s loaded with omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, so it not only helps with hair loss but also leaves your strands softer, shinier, and way less brittle.

Green Tea

Green tea isn’t just a relaxing drink, it’s loaded with a powerful antioxidant called EGCG (short for epigallocatechin gallate, but don’t worry, no one pronounces it right). This little compound is kind of a big deal when it comes to hair.

Why? Because EGCG helps block DHT production while also boosting blood flow to your scalp. That means your hair follicles get more oxygen, more nutrients, and way more support to stay strong and active.

You can sip on 2 to 3 cups a day, use it as a weekly hair rinse, or try scalp serums that include EGCG as an active ingredient. It’s simple, soothing, and surprisingly effective, basically self-care with benefits.

Flaxseeds

Flaxseeds might be small, but they seriously pull their weight when it comes to hair health. These fiber-rich ingredient helps balance hormones, improve digestion, and support hair growth too.

The magic comes from lignans, which naturally block the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme (aka the one responsible for turning testosterone into DHT). On top of that, flaxseeds are full of ALA, a plant-based omega-3 that helps keep your strands strong, shiny, and less prone to breakage.

Just toss 1 to 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed into your daily smoothie or yogurt. And if you’re feeling a little DIY, you can even make flaxseed gel and use it as a hair mask, it’s lightweight, soothing, and pretty easy to whip up.

Stinging Nettle Root

Stinging nettle root has been a go-to in herbal medicine for centuries, especially in European countries and it turns out, your hair loves it too. This plant is loaded with silica and iron, which not only nourish your hair but also help block DHT from doing its damage. It also boosts blood flow to your scalp, which means more nutrients and oxygen get to your hair follicles basically creating the perfect environment for growth.

You can take it in capsule form (just check with a practitioner first), sip it as a tea, or use it as a scalp rinse. It’s a low-effort, natural way to support your hair from the inside out.

Turmeric

Turmeric isn’t just for lattes or skincare, it’s actually a secret weapon when it comes to hair health. The active compound in it, curcumin, has some serious anti-inflammatory and antioxidant powers. It also helps block DHT by calming down those androgen receptors that love to mess with your hair.

You can enjoy it the cozy way by sipping on golden milk (just mix turmeric with plant-based milk and a pinch of black pepper), or get hands-on with a turmeric scalp mask. Mix it with honey and aloe, and you’ve got a calming, DHT-fighting treatment that feels like a mini spa day for your scalp.

Reishi Mushroom

Reishi mushroom has been a staple in traditional Chinese medicine for ages, mostly for its anti-aging and immunity-boosting powers. But here’s what most people don’t know: it’s also a natural DHT blocker. Reishi helps slow down the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme (the one that turns testosterone into hair-thinning DHT) and boosts circulation, which gets more nutrients flowing to your scalp.

You can take it as a capsule or make your favorite mushroom recipe and hack your way to stronger strands.

Garlic

Garlic might not be the first thing you think of for hair care, but don’t sleep on it. This little kitchen staple is actually packed with benefits that go way beyond flavor. It boosts circulation, detoxes your scalp, and helps create the perfect environment for new hair to grow. The real star here is allicin, that’s the compound in garlic that helps improve blood flow and may even help flush out excess DHT from your system.

You can easily add raw garlic to your meals (just maybe keep mints handy), or try a DIY garlic hair mask if you’re feeling bold. Just do a patch test first, your scalp may love it, but your nose might need time to adjust.

Zinc-Rich Foods

Zinc might not get as much hype as biotin, but trust me it’s a major player in the hair health game. This mineral helps keep your hormones balanced and actually blocks the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme, meaning less DHT messing with your scalp. Plus, zinc supports overall scalp health and keeps your follicles working the way they should. Basically, it’s one of those nutrients your hair can’t grow without.

Some of the best sources? Almonds, cashews, chickpeas, lentils and if you’re into seafood, oysters are a zinc powerhouse.

Biotin & Silica Boosters

Okay, these might not block DHT directly, but they’re still total game-changers when it comes to keeping your hair strong, shiny, and growing like it should. Think of them as your hair’s support squad. Foods like spinach, oats, and cucumber are packed with the good stuff like biotin, silica, iron, and B vitamins that help strengthen your strands from the inside out. They don’t just help prevent breakage, they also create the right conditions for new growth to actually stick around.

So if you’re building a hair-friendly diet, these are non-negotiables. Toss some spinach in your smoothie, sprinkle oats on everything, and slice up cucumber for hydration with benefits. Your hair will love it.

What To Expect (& When)?

Look, hair growth isn’t instant, there’s no magic overnight fix. But if you stick with natural DHT blockers consistently, you will start noticing shifts.

Here’s the real talk timeline:

  • Around 4 to 6 weeks, you might see less hair fall in the shower or on your pillow.
  • By month 3 or 4, those cute little baby hairs may start popping up around your hairline.
  • At the 6-month mark, people might start asking if you did something different because your hair will look fuller and feel stronger.

The secret? Stay consistent. Get enough sleep. And don’t slack on scalp care, it’s just as important as the products you’re using.

What To Avoid (If You Want Results)

Even the best DHT blockers won’t save your hair if your daily habits are working against you.

A few things to cut back on:

  • Too much sugar as it spikes insulin, which can lead to more testosterone (and yep, more DHT)
  • Refined carbs and junk food
  • Alcohol and smoking as both mess with blood flow and boost stress hormones, which don’t help your follicles at all.

Are Natural DHT Blockers Worth Your Time?

100% yes. If you’re looking for a gentler, long-term fix that helps your hair and your overall health, natural DHT blockers are totally worth a shot. It’s not about chasing miracles, it’s about building a routine that works with your body, not against it. Clean, simple ingredients. Minimal side effects. And results that actually last.

Because honestly? Great hair isn’t just about what you put on it. It’s about how well you treat the roots from the inside out.

Cait vs The Cardigan: A Stylist’s Unexpected Love Affair

0

Soooooo I have a confession to make: cardigans have never been my thing.

They always conjured up images of something a bit too… librarian-esque for my style preferences.

But, as a stylist, I’m always open to expanding my horizons. So, when the lovely team at Caroline Eve were telling me about all their glorious cardigans in the latest collections,  I took it as a challenge to try my luck again.

Caroline Eve are known for their cardigans, they have such a wide range of shapes, styles and colours, that even I would be hard-pressed not to find some in-store (or online) that I loved. So I headed into store to visit the Howick Caroline Eve team to see what all the fuss (justified!) was about…

The Cardigan Challenge

I had to rethink the whole vibe of cardigans. Sure, they can be classic, but with a bit of styling magic, they can be totally transformed. Here’s what I discovered on my quest for cardigan coolness:

  • Texture is Key: Ditch the basic, flimsy knits! Chunky weaves, plush faux fur, even a touch of metallic shimmer – textured cardigans instantly elevate an outfit, adding dimension and a touch of luxury.

  • The Boyfriend Borrow: Oversized cardigans have that effortlessly chic, “I just threw this on over my favorite tee” vibe. Pair them with slim-fitting jeans or a slinky skirt for a cool juxtaposition.

  • Belt It Out: Add some shape to a slouchy cardigan! Cinching it with a belt creates a whole new silhouette, emphasizing the waist and adding a feminine touch.

  • The Unexpected Layer: Who says cardigans have to be the top layer? Try one under a tailored blazer, a leather jacket, or even a denim vest for a modern, edgy twist

My ‘Aha!’ Cardigan Moments

I finally had my cardigan epiphany with a few key pieces:

1. It’s all about the SHAPE

I think (no, I know) my hesitation with cardigans has always been their lack of shape. I generally feel better when my waist is defined and cardigans rarely do that, so step number one is finding a cardigan that gives me waist shape….

This lovely cardigan did exactly what I needed it to – created shape and I also love the contrast of wearing it with a leather-look skirt, it just elevates it slightly.

2. Think outside the box.

I have to admit, I do have one or two cardis that have made their way into my wardrobe already, and they almost exclusively get worn like this – as a jersey or a jumper!

Again, I think it playing into the waist-defining style for me, by buttoning a cardigan, I can throw it over a dress, or style it back with a skirt and still define my shape, like so…

I’m wearing: The Printed Rayon Cotton Dress in Navy Olive Floral with the Ultra Soft Knitwear Cardigan in Sky

The Verdict: I’m a Convert

Guess what, guys? I’m officially a cardigan fan. They add warmth, sure, but really it’s about the style options!

With a little imagination, they are a secret weapon for easy layering, adding a pop of personality, and creating looks with that certain je ne sais quoi. Maybe I’ll start calling myself a cardiganista!

And so you can play along too, here are some more of my faves from Caroline Eve that you can find for yourself in store and online.

Shop the looks:
top left to right: 100% worsted wool cardigan in new pink | Recycled yarn blend cardigan in navy stripe | 100% worsted wool collared cardigan in amethyst marle
bottom left to right: fine cosy knitwear coatigan in ocean marle | Luxe knitwear stripe cardigan in black / ivory | Specialty knitwear knit jacket in navy/olive

Let me know your fave!

Nordstrom Now Offers Robot Lash Extensions

0

Robotic technology is having quite the moment in beauty. Just a few weeks after the first robot manicure system debuted, a new device has landed. On Thursday, November 20, LUUM—the world’s first AI-powered lash extension robot launched at Nordstrom’s Flagship store in New York City.

Developed by LUUM, Inc., the robot can give you a full set of lashes in a fraction of the time of a typical appointment. What does that mean exactly? According to a recent press release, LUUM’s next-gen device applies lashes to both eyes simultaneously, cutting down the time you spend in the chair. Instead of a 75-minute session, which is about the time of a standard appointment, LUUM’s robot aims to finish in 33 minutes.

However, it’s not just about the time. A few less minutes at the salon isn’t really worth it if the quality suffers, especially for something like lash extensions. “We’re proving that automation doesn’t diminish the client experience or the artistry—it enhances both,” shares Jo Lawson, CEO of LUUM. The robot achieves natural-looking results using lightweight wands that gently apply the extensions to the lashline. One user even described the experience as so gentle it felt like “butterfly kisses” during the appointment.

Nordstrom marks LUUM’s New York debut, but the company’s robot lash techs have been around for a while. In 2024, it launched collaborations with Ulta Beauty and Nordstrom, piloting its device in Ulta Beauty stores in San Jose. With this debut, the company shared plans for national retail expansion with both chains in four major markets by Q1 2026.

The timing of this launch feels right on schedule. Not only have lash extensions completely evolved over the last few years, but they’ve also become much more mainstream. From lash lifts to underclusters, it’s clear that the desire for long, natural-looking lashes is strong. For those ready to try something different, LUMM’s system could be the answer.

Want in? You can book an appointment via the company’s website, and pricing varies by location.

Sebaceous Filaments: Understanding and Managing Them

If you’ve ever looked closely at your skin, especially around your nose or on your T-zone, you might have noticed tiny, pin-like structures in your pores. These are known as sebaceous filaments, and they are a common skin concern for many. But what exactly are sebaceous filaments, and how can you effectively manage them? In this comprehensive guide, we’ll delve into the world of sebaceous filaments, providing you with the information you need to know on how to get rid of sebaceous filaments.

What Are Sebaceous Filaments?

Sebaceous filaments are often mistaken for blackheads, but they are quite different. Sebaceous filaments vs blackheads is a common skincare topic, as these tiny, cylinder-like structures reside in your pores, primarily on the nose, chin, and forehead. Unlike blackheads, they are not a form of acne and are a natural component of your skin’s ecosystem.

Before we dive into understanding and managing sebaceous filaments, let’s explore the science behind their formation.

Understanding Sebaceous Filaments

Defining Sebaceous Filaments

Sebaceous filaments are semi-liquid substances composed of sebum (skin oil), shed skin cells, and hair follicles. These filaments serve a crucial role in maintaining the health of your skin by allowing sebum to reach the skin’s surface, keeping it well-moisturized.

The Science Behind Sebaceous Filament Formation

Sebaceous filaments originate from sebaceous glands connected to hair follicles. These glands produce sebum, which travels through the hair follicle and reaches the skin’s surface, keeping it hydrated.

However, over time, this perfectly orchestrated process can encounter challenges. Sebum production can become excessive, especially in individuals with naturally oily skin. When this happens, an excess of sebum from the sebaceous gland can mix with dead skin cells that are naturally shed by your skin. This combination of sebum and dead skin cells begins to accumulate within your pores—forming sebaceous filaments.

Understanding the science behind sebaceous filaments is essential because it allows us to develop effective strategies for managing them.

Causes and Contributing Factors

Several factors contribute to the development of this skin condition:

  • Excess Sebum Production: Individuals with oily skin are more prone to sebaceous filament formation because their sebaceous glands produce more oil, creating an ideal environment for these structures to develop.1,2
  • Dead Skin Cells: A build-up of dead skin cells can contribute to sebaceous filament formation as these cells mix with sebum and hair follicles, gradually leading to their appearance within the pores.
  • Genetics: Your skin type and genetics can play a role in how susceptible you are to sebaceous filaments, with some individuals inheriting a predisposition to this common skin concern.2
  • Hormonal Changes: Hormonal fluctuations, such as those during puberty or pregnancy, can lead to increased sebum production, contributing to sebaceous filament development, especially in times of hormonal imbalance.
  • Skincare Products: Using heavy, oil-based skincare products can exacerbate the issue, as they can lead to clogged pores and contribute to the formation of sebaceous filaments.

Understanding these factors is essential for effectively treating and managing sebaceous filaments.

How to Identify Sebaceous Filaments

Visual Characteristics of Sebaceous Filaments

Sebaceous filaments can often be observed on the nose, where they appear as small, pin-like structures within the pores. They are typically yellow or gray in color and may be more noticeable in individuals with fair skin.

Differentiating from Other Skin Blemishes

It’s crucial to differentiate sebaceous filaments from other skin blemishes like blackheads and whiteheads. Sebaceous filaments are smooth and evenly distributed within the pores, whereas blackheads and whiteheads are raised, bumpy, and typically discolored.

Should You Squeeze Sebaceous Filaments?

One question that often arises when dealing with sebaceous filaments is whether or not it’s advisable to squeeze them. The answer, in most cases, is a resounding “no.”

Squeezing sebaceous filaments may lead to several problems. First, it can damage your skin by causing micro-tears, redness, and inflammation, ultimately making the situation worse.1 Second, squeezing can push the filaments deeper into the pore, exacerbating the skin issue. Additionally, it may lead to the development of more noticeable sebaceous filaments and enlarged pores over time.

Instead of squeezing, focus on the effective treatments and preventive measures outlined in this guide. With patience and the right skincare routine, you can achieve healthy skin, free of sebaceous filaments, without resorting to potentially harmful squeezing methods.

Effective Treatment Methods

Now that we understand sebaceous filaments and their causes, let’s explore a range of methods to effectively manage and minimize them.

Topical Treatments

  • Exfoliation: Using chemical exfoliants containing glycolic acid or retinol can help exfoliate dead skin cells, preventing them from mixing with sebum and forming filaments. Consider the ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatmentwhich is designed to improve your face texture and provide a healthy skin glow.
  • Clay Masks: Clay masks can draw out excess oil and dead cells, helping to clean and minimize the appearance of sebaceous filaments, leaving your skin looking refreshed and revitalized.
  • Sulfur-Infused Cleansers: Consider using a product like our EradiKate Daily Foaming Cleanser with sulfur to combat sebaceous filaments effectively. You may be wondering: how does sulfur help fight pimples and sebaceous pimples? Sulfur works by gently exfoliating the skin, regulating sebum production, and reducing the visibility of these tiny structures within your pores.

Why Sulfur is the Perfect Choice for Sebaceous Filament Treatment

Sulfur has indeed emerged as a standout ingredient in the realm of skincare, especially when it comes to addressing visible sebaceous filaments. At Kate Somerville, we’ve harnessed the power of sulfur in our products to combat these skin concerns effectively.

The EradiKate Daily Foaming Cleanserinfused with 3% sulfur, plays a crucial role in this fight. It offers gentle exfoliation that removes dead skin cells and excess oil, unclogging pores and reducing the visibility of sebaceous filaments. Sulfur’s unique ability to regulate sebum production further contributes to clearer pores, while its natural anti-inflammatory properties soothe irritation and redness.

For more targeted treatment, we’ve formulated the EradiKate Sulfur Acne Treatmentwhich contains 10% sulfur and 2% salicylic acid. This combination creates a potent spot treatment that specifically addresses the challenges posed by sebaceous filaments. When used together, these products become your trusted allies in achieving clearer, more radiant skin.

Now that you’re armed with the knowledge of our sulfur-infused skincare solutions, let’s delve into an effective skincare routine for managing sebaceous filaments.

Effective Skincare Routine for Sebaceous Filaments

Here’s a step-by-step guide to an effective skincare routine for managing sebaceous filaments:

  • Cleansing: Use a gentle, sulfur-infused cleanser like our EradiKate Daily Foaming Cleanser to remove excess oil and dead cells.
  • Exfoliation: Incorporate an exfoliate such as ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment that effectively deep-clean pores, remove dead skin cells, and enhance skin texture.
  • Clay Masks: Use clay masks once or twice a week to deep-clean your pores.
  • Moisturize: Choose a non-comedogenic moisturizerto keep your skin hydrated and minimize clogged pores.

Are You Moisturising Wrong? The One Skincare Mistake You Need to Stop – Merindah Botanicals

0

Moisturising is supposed to hydrate and protect your skin—so why does your skin still feel dry, tight, or dull even after applying moisturiser?

You’re not alone. Many people unknowingly make one small mistake that prevents their moisturiser from working properly.

If you’ve ever felt like your moisturiser “disappears” or doesn’t give long-lasting hydration, you might be making this one crucial mistake.

The #1 Moisturising Mistake Most People Make

Applying moisturiser to dry skin.

That’s right—moisturiser works best when applied to damp skin!

Here’s why:

  • Damp skin absorbs product better – Applying moisturizer while your skin is still slightly damp locks in moisture and prevents water loss.

  • Hydration evaporates quickly – If you wait too long after cleansing, your skin dries out, making it harder to rehydrate.

  • Your products will be more effective – Layering on moisturiser right after toner or serum helps it sink in deeper and last longer.

How to Fix It: The Right Way to Apply Moisturizer

✔️ After cleansing, apply a hydrating toner or serum to damp skin.
✔️ While your skin is still slightly damp, massage in your moisturizer.
✔️ For extra hydrationfollow up with a face oil to lock everything in.

By making this simple switch, your skin will stay hydrated longer, feel softer, and absorb your products more effectively!

Final Thoughts

If you’ve been applying moisturizer to dry skindon’t worry—you’re not alone! But now that you know this simple trick, your skincare routine will be more effective than ever.

Street Talk: Make-Up – Episode Seven Skin Type: Combination

0

In Episode Seven of Street Talk: Make-Upwe meet Sunnya consumer navigating a combination skin type—with dry areas around the mouth and oiliness across the forehead. Her approach to beauty is minimal yet curated, with an affinity for clean formulations and consistent product loyalty.

Her Routine: Balancing Dryness and Oil Control

Sunny’s go-to makeup routine is grounded in a clean, light-coverage aesthetic that accommodates both dry and oily areas. Her staples include:

  • Ilia’s complexion stick for light foundation coverage, blended seamlessly to avoid build-up on dry patches
  • Clear eyebrow wax for a groomed but natural look
  • Ilia blush, Standard mascaraand occasional Fenty red lipstick for night-outs
  • A year-round rotation of three foundation shades for different seasons, reflecting her awareness of undertone shifts

Sunny is brand-loyal and product-aware, consistently purchasing online and replenishing trusted items—indicating high conversion potential once a product becomes embedded in her routine.

Behavioral Insight: Routine-Driven and Shade-Savvy

Sunny’s use of seasonal foundation shades reflects a growing sophistication in consumer shade matching, with a clear expectation that products will accommodate subtle shifts in skin tone throughout the year.

Her experience with potential formula changes in her go-to complexion product—especially noticing drier texture around the eye area—highlights how perceived inconsistencies across markets (UK vs. US) or reformulation concerns can quickly erode trust and trigger repurchase hesitation.

She does not engage with tutorials or virtual try-ons, suggesting that traditional digital engagement strategies may not reach this consumer type. Instead, brand trust and product consistency are key.

Strategic Implications for Beauty Brands

Formulation

  • Develop hybrid complexion products that deliver hydration and oil control simultaneously.
  • Ensure formula consistency across global markets to avoid damaging loyalty with seasoned consumers.
  • Support flexible formulations that work in both dry and humid environmentswith buildable coverage options.

Marketing

  • Emphasize the “buy once, repeat often” behavior of loyal consumers through replenishment campaigns and subscription models.
  • Highlight seasonal shade offerings and educate consumers about undertone shifts in different light and climates.
  • Build messaging around simplicity and dependabilitynot just trend relevance.

Merchandising

  • Promote multi-shade product bundles that reflect seasonal changes and help consumers transition easily.
  • Invest in online storefront clarity for products with multiple variants to support quick reordering.
  • Offer loyalty perks or early access to reformulations to maintain trust during product updates.

It’s that time of year again — the holiday season. And it’s in full swing! Halloween zoomed by, and now Thanksgiving’s on the docket. After that, it’s smooth sailing till Christmas.

Seriously, though, I don’t know about you, but this year was an enigma wrapped in a riddle for me. We always say, “This year went by so fast!” but no, really, what the heck happened to 2025? I feel like I kinda lost a year, like, I went to bed last July and woke up in November. This was like the cheetah of the 2020s! Zipped right by.

Anywho…Thanksgiving. I cannot lie — I have a lot to be thankful for. I know we’re all working on borrowed time. Life is cruel and always too short. I’m thankful for my family and our health right, and I’m thankful for everything that has ever made me smile, including you. 🙂

Thank you, dear universe, for another blessed day.

As usual for a holiday, my mind always wanders to thoughts of Tabs… He passed away six years ago. Six years. And I still think of him every single day. That’s the honest truth. Not a day goes by when I don’t think of my tabby.

Thanksgiving was, of course, a big day around here when Tabs ruled the roost. He was a very thankful tabby.

He was thankful for his fabulous physique, his business acumen and, let’s be honest, for gravy.

The newer members of the family aren’t so new anymore. Rosie has been here since 2019, and Marnie joined the company in 2023.

Speaking of Marnie, she’s thankful for her family.

Even for Rosie, although there is some tension there…

As for Rosie, she’s thankful for her preternatural intellect and her many international science awards.

Happy early Thanksgiving! Hope you have a wonderful week ahead. Thank you, friend. 😊

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen
