I discovered Woolly in my quest to ditch plastic from my wardrobe. My first thought was, wait, wool to workout in? However, after trying out many of their pieces, I must admit, I am impressed with their quality and durability. In fact, they have integrated their way into my athleisure wardrobe.

Woolly Clothing Co.

Woolly has won my vote in the fight against plastic with their high blend or 100% merino wool activewear and underwear that are soft, breathable, temperature regulating and odor resistant.

They are Responsible Wool Standard certified which means that they are held accountable in their animal welfare and land management practices. They are OEKO-TEX certified, guaranteeing that their products are tested for harmful substances and safe for human use.

I love wearing Woolly’s bike shorts with the long sleeve crew – so comfy!

Why Merino wool?

When you think of wool, a hot, scratchy sweater may come to mind, but merino wool is nothing of the sort.

Other types of wool tend to work well for sturdy, durable outerwear, but merino wool consists of small fibers that are breathable, moisture-wicking, and soft. This makes it a great option for performance wear and body hugging clothing.

Pros of Merino Wool

  • Soft material
  • Luxurious
  • Temperature-regulating
  • Naturally water-repellent
  • Moisture wicking
  • Odor resistant
  • Biodegradable

Cons of Merino Wool

  • Can lose shape with improper care
  • Prone to pilling
  • Prone to snags
  • Expensive

Are Woolly’s clothing items 100% Merino wool?

Most of Woolly’s products consist of a high-blend of merino wool, if not 100% merino wool.

For example, their women’s crew neck tee consists of 95% Australian merino and 5% elastane. Or their women’s flex leggings that also consist of 95% merino and 5% elastane. Some clothing items lend themselves to needing a bit more stretch and flexibility to be functional, hence the elastane.

Mid-layer sweaters, socks, and athletic-weight t-shirts can be a blend of merino and elastane for a performance fit.

When in doubt, check the fabric section of the product description for the type of material and percentages used in the product.

Merino wool’s ultra-fine fibers make it breathable, moisture-wicking, and incredibly soft.

Care Of Woolly Clothing

Caring for your Woolly clothing will help them to last. Here are best practices:

  • Wash Woolly products on a cold cycle with similar colors. Avoid mixing in other clothing that has zippers, velcro or buckles as they can snag those fine merino fibers that make up your Woolly clothing.
  • Tumble dry low or air dry. If you choose to air dry, lay your clothing item on a towel and roll up like a burrito to gently squeeze out the moisture then hang it up to air dry.
  • To avoid excessive pilling, turn your Woolly clothes inside out before washing.
  • Avoid bleach, fabric softeners, or harsh detergents on Woolly products. Instead use a wool-specific detergent.

Woolly Customer Reviews

Here is a snapshot of what customers are saying about Woolly products, both the good and the bad! While I may not have the same opinion, I think it is so helpful to hear what others are thinking too.

I LOVE these tanks. Never too warm, always temperature regulating, soft and never itchy. I wear them all year around. They fit perfectly and never ride up or cling.

I have never been able to wear merino wool because it feels too itchy on my skin. These underwear are feather light. I didn’t notice any scratchiness and am very pleased. I would definitely purchase again.

Love these leggings and own a bunch of Woolley’s stuff. I’ve owned them for over a year now and wear them wherever from long haul flights to outdoor fitness in winter to ice skating and recently on trails and water activities in Patagonia both as is and under a pair of shell pants. They are hands down fantastic both in terms of material/craftsmanship, durability and design.

Unfortunately these are much bigger than expected, I ordered the small but they fit more like a large, I don’t think I’ll even bother ordering XS the Small is 3x too large.

Shirt is comfortable but see through. I have to wear a vest or sweater over it.

Final Thoughts On Woolly Clothing Co

I have been so impressed with Woolly Clothing!  I’ve had several of their clothing items for over a year and they’ve held up so well.  Their quality is so apparent in their pieces.  I love knowing I’m supporting a brand doing it right and that I’m wearing products that don’t contain plastic.  I can’t wait to expand my Woolly wardrobe in the future!
