Even Ariana Grande Is Hopping on the Tortoiseshell Headband Trend

0

Ariana Grande appreciates a good hair accessory. Practically in a permanent updo in one way or another, she’s been known to put a bow on it. And now, it seems the superstar is as influenced as everyone else who’s been discovering (or rediscovering) Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s impact on the culture, sharing photos of herself in one of the accessories most associated with the late style icon: a tortoiseshell headband.

Grande shared a 20-slide carousel to Instagram on Wednesday, May 18, and several photos appear to be Mac Photo Booth selfies in which the multi-hyphenate is posing in a black turtleneck. Her hair is sleekly pulled back, as it so often is, but she topped it off with a classic, plastic tortoiseshell headband.

This look was often seen on Bessette-Kennedy when she was spotted in public, sometimes with her hair up like Grande’s or left loose. And with the show Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette bubbling Bessette-Kennedy’s life and look up to the tops of viewers’ minds, there has been a run on similar headbands. (As a beauty editor, I’ve received more than a few pitches for “CBK headbands.” I have thoughts on that.)

In addition to the headband, the photo dump shows Grande in another classic hair accessory: a nice, fluffy scrunchy. That’s definitely a departure from her much more formal hairstyles throughout the last few Wicked-flooded years, but it’s also definitely adorable, just like the headband.

The Unexpected Mental Health Effect of GLP-1 Medications

0

By now, you can probably list off the potential perks of going on a GLP-1 receptor agonist like Ozempic or Zepbound in your sleep. These medications can support blood sugar management, weight loss, and cardiovascular health, among many other things—this likely isn’t news to you. But the messaging around GLP-1s and mental health has been a little confusing.

When these drugs first became popular, there was a lot of public commentary that claimed taking a GLP-1 was linked with a higher risk of suicide. That sparked an investigation by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), although the agency noted in January that a preliminary evaluation of the data has not found evidence that GLP-1s cause suicidal thoughts or actions.

Now, new research suggests that taking a GLP-1 could have a huge impact on your mental health—in a good way.

Before we dive in, let’s address the big question: No, doctors aren’t suggesting that you rush out and get on a GLP-1 if you have depression or anxiety. But healthcare providers are excited about the possibility of having one more treatment option for people with these conditions—provided you need a GLP-1 in the first place. Here’s the deal.

The study is a major win for GLP-1s and mental health.

For the study, which was published in The Lancet Psychiatryresearchers analyzed data from nearly 100,000 participants who were followed through Swedish national registers between 2009 and 2022. Of those, more than 20,000 had used GLP-1 medications.

The researchers found that people who used GLP-1 medications—especially semaglutide (the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy)—had up to a 42% lower risk of being sick and needing hospital care for psychiatric reasons compared to when they weren’t on the medication. The researchers also found that semaglutide users with depression had a 44% lower risk, while those with anxiety disorders had a 38% lower risk. There was also a lower risk of suicidal behavior in people who used GLP-1s overall.

Semaglutide had an impact on substance use disorders, too, with people taking semaglutide having a 47% lower risk of being sick or hospitalized due to substance use.

“People with diabetes and obesity have elevated rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide,” Mark Taylor, MBBS, study co-author and psychiatrist from Griffith University, tells SELF. “The reduction in sick leave, or health related absences from work, was a most unexpected and significant result, along with the reduction in suicidal behaviors. As mental health is now the most common reason people are on sick leave, or absent from work due to ill-health, this has major implications for public health.”

Wispy CC Curl Lash Set: The Ultimate Guide to Texture, Layers & Dimension

0

If your clients are asking for that soft, textured, “effortlessly full” look, a wispy CC curl lash set is the answer. This trending style blends classic lashes, volume fans, and strategic layering to create dimension that feels both natural and elevated.

In this guide, we’re breaking down a stunning set by @bloombybrycie, plus exactly how to recreate it using our must-have lash products.

What Is a Wispy CC Curl Lash Set?

A wispy lash set is all about intentional texture. Instead of a uniform finish, you’re creating spikes, softness, and layers that mimic a natural, fluttery lash line.

Using a CC curl enhances this look by adding:

  • A soft lift (not too dramatic, not too flat)

  • A flattering curve for most eye shapes

  • The perfect balance between natural and glam

The Exact Lash Map (Save This 👇)

Here’s the breakdown of this wispy set:

  • Top Layer: 5–12mm | .15 CC Curl Classics

  • Bottom Layer: 5–9mm | .07 CC Curl Volume Fans

  • Middle Layer: 5–9mm | .07 CC Curl Closed Fans (lightly sprinkled)

This combination creates dimension, density, and wispy texture without looking heavy.

Why Layering Is Everything

The secret to a next-level wispy set? Layering.

Most lash artists focus heavily on the top and bottom layers, but the magic happens in the middle.

Don’t Skip the Middle Layer

This is where you can:

  • Break the rules

  • Add unexpected texture

  • Customize every set

Using closed fans in the middle layer helps:

  • Fill gaps without bulk

  • Add depth to your lash line

  • Enhance the wispy effect without overpowering it

👉 Think of the middle layer as your blending zone, where structure meets creativity.

Products Used to Create This Look

To recreate this set flawlessly, here’s what you’ll need:

  • CC Curl Lash Trays – For consistent curl and smooth application

  • Magic Adhesive – Reliable retention and clean bonding

  • Pink Eye Pads – For comfort and precise isolation

  • Pro Tape – Perfect for lifting and exposing layers

  • Volume Tweezers – For creating and placing fans with control

  • Laylow Lash Tile – Keeps your setup clean, organized, and efficient

Each product plays a role in helping you work faster, cleaner, and more precisely.

Final Thoughts

A wispy CC curl set isn’t just a trend, it’s a technique that allows you to fully customize your artistry.

And remember:
✨ The middle layer is your playground.
✨ Texture comes from intention, not randomness.
✨ The right products make all the difference.

Start experimenting with layering and watch your wispy work stand out from the rest.

haruharu wonder Black Rice Probiotics Barrier 2% NAD+ Serum Mist Review

I’ve always had a soft spot for a facial mist, but I’m increasingly drawn to formulas that offer more than a fleeting moment of hydration. This is where the haruharu wonder Black Rice Probiotics Barrier 2% NAD+ Serum Mist feels particularly relevant. It is positioned as a mist, but very much behaves like a treatment.

Here’s everything you need to know.

Who are you wondering?

haruharu wonder is a South Korean skincare brand known for its gentle, barrier-focused formulas and modern approach to “slow beauty”.

The name haruharu translates to “day by day” in Korean, reflecting the brand’s philosophy of consistent, everyday skincare rather than quick fixes.

Founded in Seoul, the brand has grown rapidly in recent years and is now available in over 150 countries, gaining a reputation for accessible, results-driven K-beauty.

At the heart of the range is a focus on:

  • Skin barrier health and long-term resilience
  • Fermented ingredientsparticularly their signature black rice extract
  • Vegan-friendly formulations using plant-powered actives
  • Fragrance-free, sensitive-skin-friendly products

The brand is particularly known for its proprietary black rice fermentation process, designed to enhance antioxidant levels and improve ingredient absorption while remaining gentle on the skin.

What is haruharu wonder Black Rice Probiotics Barrier 2% NAD+ Serum Mist?

This is a bi-phase serum mist designed to hydrate, strengthen the skin barrier, and support overall skin resilience.

At the centre of the formula is 2% NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) which is a coenzyme naturally present in the body that plays a role in cellular repair and energy production, and notably declines as we age.

Alongside this, you’ll find:

  • A multi-ceramide complex to reinforce the skin barrier
  • Probiotic ferments (including Galactomyces and Bifida) to support repair and balance
  • Black rice extract for antioxidant protection
  • Squalane and panthenol to soften and maintain hydration

It’s also fragrance-free, which will appeal to anyone with more sensitive or reactive skin.

Texture & Application

This is a bi-phase formula, so it needs a quick shake before use. Once mixed, it dispenses as a super fine, lightly milky mist.

On the skin, it feels:

  • Light yet conditioning
  • Hydrating without being wet or heavy
  • Comfortable, with no stickiness

It leaves a soft, healthy-looking finish on the skin.

haruharu wonder Black Rice Probiotics Barrier 2% NAD+ Serum Mist - super fine delivery system
haruharu wonder Black Rice Probiotics Barrier 2% NAD+ Serum Mist – super fine delivery system

Now as I already said, I love a mist and with this one, from first use, there is an immediate sense of comfort and hydration. The delivery is super fine, which I always love, and it puffs out soft clouds of hydration, making it perfect for over makeup. It makes my skin feels softer and immediately less tight, as soon I use it. especially if it has been exposed to actives or environmental stress.

It gives my skin a gorgeous dewy look, but not greasy, and I love to use it post cleansing to boost absorption and performance of my other skin care products. Plus, it’s also great over makeup to melt everything into the skin, and perfect to boost hydration and refresh the skin throughout the day.

This is the first time I’ve really used anything from the haruharu wonder brand, however, it has made me very keen to try more.

Key Ingredients

The formula strikes a considered balance between advanced and barrier-focused ingredients:

  • NAD+ for cellular led
  • Ceramides provide essential barrier reinforcement
  • Ferments support skin resilience and overall condition
  • Black rice extract offers antioxidant protection

It feels thoughtfully formulated, with a clear focus on long-term skin health.

Who is it best for?

This is particularly well suited to:

  • Dehydrated or sensitive skin
  • Skin that has been over-exposed to actives
  • Anyone focused on barrier repair and maintenance

How to Use

  • After cleansing, before serums
  • Between skincare steps for added hydration
  • Throughout the day as a replenishing mist
  • Lightly over makeup for a subtle refresh

Final Thoughts

This is a quietly impressive product that prioritises skin health over quick results. For anyone looking to support their skin barrier in a consistent and low-effort way, this is a very worthwhile addition.

5 Small Shifts That Saved My Long-Distance Friendships

0

As a Brit who recently moved to Australia, I’ve been concerned about whether I can maintain successful long-distance friendships—particularly given my closest friend still lives in the UK. After all, research has shown that if you go two months without an in-person catch up with a friend, you’ll have a 30% drop in closeness. After five months, that number increases to 80%.

I can attest to these stats in part. Some friends who I thought would be “ride or dies,” haven’t dropped me a message in months (or admittedly, I them). A couple I thought would always be there were nowhere to be seen when I last visited home. A newer friend in Australia was confident our time apart during this same period wouldn’t rock us—as was I—but things didn’t pan out that way.

“Long-distance friendship can be hard because proximity is one of the things that creates connection,” psychologist Marisa G. Franco, PhD, author of Platonic: How The Science of Attachment Can Help You Make—and Keep—Friendstells SELF. “There can be lots of obstacles,” she continues, noting that a lack of active effort and not being open to connecting digitally can contribute to figurative and literal distance.

Maintaining closeness and connection with a friend who lives on the other side of the world is challenging—but also still very much possible. Case in point: my closest friend, Humeara, who still lives in London while I am here in Melbourne.

Humeara and I have been friends for around four years, but we only became very close (i.e. “best friend” tier) in the past 18 months. We love to go to work events together (she’s a journalist too), head out for walks with her dog, and laze on the sofa watching Married At First Sight (the Australian version, always) when we’re both in London. We feel comfortable being in silence together, and as we’re both extroverted introverts, are happy to use our mutually agreed code word—“non-verbal time?”–should we need. She is kind, brave, hilariously funny, has solid morals, and accepts me for who I am (anxiety spirals and all).

It goes without saying, then, that being apart is difficult—for both of us. We agree that not being able to pop over to see each other or pick up the phone due to the hefty time difference is one of the biggest challenges. It’s especially hard when your person isn’t there during the hard times. But mostly, it’s the little things we both miss, like grabbing a coffee and having a moan about things.

Keke Palmer on Her Pixie Cut Era and Going Back to Relaxers

0

Keke Palmer and I grew up together—at least in my mind. Saturday afternoons, I’d curl up on the couch with a snack to watch True Jackson, VPthe Nickelodeon series where a then–18-year-old Palmer played the effortlessly cool teen running a fashion company. The show aired in 2011, the same year I turned 12, and Palmer felt like a big sister living inside my TV. Over the years, I watched her evolve on screen, going from a sassy teen to a busy actor starring in films like One of Them Days and Nope. All the while, I was growing up too. So when we spoke recently over Zoom, the conversation felt surprisingly sentimental, as we bonded over washing our toddlers’ hair and figuring out how to set aside a little time for ourselves as working moms.

That sense of nostalgia deepened as we talked about her new partnership with Creme of Nature, for which she now serves as chief brand officer. For many Black girls, “we grew up using Creme of Nature,” says Palmer. The brand was a wash-day staple—something you’d almost always find in the bathroom cabinet. For Palmer, the partnership felt like a natural fit: both she and the brand are “OGs,” and helping usher Creme of Nature into “a more modern phase” reflects just how much she’s evolved in her own career.

These days, Palmer, 32, is embracing a new chapter—one that centers authenticity and flexibility in every area of her life. Fittingly, it comes with a new-ish hair moment: a spunky pixie cut that the actor debuted in August 2025. Ahead, she opens up about the big chop, her decision to go back to a relaxer, and the beauty rituals she’s now passing down to her toddler.

Allure: You’ve had your pixie for about seven months now. What inspired the bold chop?

Keke Palmer: For the past year or so, I’ve just been doing everything to my hair—especially with having the Creme of Nature products at my will—while also trying to keep it healthy with the color, and just keep a consistent hair care routine. And then I hit a moment where I became tired of maintaining my hair. I wanted something that matches the pace of my life.

I don’t want to be bald yet. So the pixie lets me keep the flavor, style, funk, but at the same time, I can keep up with it day to day. Right now, I have this kind of boy band type of thing going on that I’m living for, where the ends are just spiked. I’m just having a ball with that.

Allure: How do you maintain the look?

Palmer: I get the sides and back cut every two weeks. I let the top grow out and get a refresher on my relaxer every four weeks.

I know a lot of people feel like the pixie is difficult, but if you have a good foam, some good edge control to add up in there and give it texture, and you’re not afraid of letting some of your texture shine through, then you can enjoy your pixie cut and not be afraid to touch it.

Allure: Why did you decide to get a relaxer again, and what was that experience like for you?

Palmer: I’ve gone through the whole natural hair thing. I was doing that all last year, where I was really wanting to wear my ‘fro, especially after I did Nope. I was just flexing the natural look and playing with my hair in its most natural state. And I really did enjoy that. And then I decided I want to be flexible with something else, and I don’t want to be chained to anything.

The Best Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer For Your Skin Type

0

Last Updated on March 18, 2026 by omgbart

All good things start with that one classic.

When I first discovered Kiehl’s around 1999 or 2000, the Ultra Facial range was simple. There was a moisturizer in a bottle. That was it. The original formula had already been around since the early 1970s and had earned its cult status the old-fashioned way. The jar version did not arrive until 2006.

Kiehl's Ultra Facial moisturizer options.

The Kiehl’s Ultra Facial range now

Fast forward to now and there are eight different Ultra Facial moisturizers, each with a different texture, a different purpose, and a different skin type in mind. The name is the same across all of them. Everything else varies. If you have ever stood in a Kiehl’s store wondering which one is actually right for you, this is the cheat sheet you need.

Product Texture Hero Ingredients Best For Use When
Ultra Facial Moisturizer Creamy lotion Squalane, Glycerin All skin types, especially normal to slightly oily You want no-fuss, fast-absorbing daily hydration
Ultra Facial Cream with Squalane Medium-weight cream 4.5% Squalane, Glacial Glycoprotein, Pro-Ceramides All skin types; the everyday workhorse Daily barrier support and 72-hour hydration
Ultra Facial Cream SPF 30 Medium-weight cream Squalane, Glacial Glycoprotein, Glycerin, UV filters (Avobenzone 3%, Homosalate 5%, Octisalate 5%, Octocrylene 7%) All skin types who want a one-step AM routine Mornings when you want hydration and sun protection in one
Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 30 Fast-absorbing lotion Squalane, Glycerin, Avocado Oil, UV filters (Avobenzone 3%, Homosalate 5%, Octisalate 5%, Octocrylene 7%) All skin types wanting a lighter SPF formula You prefer the OG moisturizer formula but need SPF coverage
Ultra Facial Oil-Free Moisturizer Cooling gel cream Glacial Glycoprotein, Micronized Amino Acid, Glycerin Oily to normal skin; enlarged pores, shine Your skin needs hydration without any heaviness or shine
Ultra Facial Advanced Repair Barrier Cream Light cream/balm hybrid Colloidal Oatmeal, Beta-Glucan, Ceramide NP Dry, very dry, or sensitive skin with visible redness Your barrier is compromised and needs intensive repair
Ultra Facial Skin Barrier Repair Balm Cooling balm stick Squalane, Pro-Ceramides, Glacial Glycoprotein, Niacinamide All skin types; dry patches, on-the-go touch-ups Midday barrier top-up, travel (in-flight touch up), or layering over makeup

Choosing the right Kiehl's Ultra Facial moisturizer for your skin needs.

What are my favorites…

Three formulas stand out for me personally. The Ultra Facial Advanced Repair Barrier Cream is my go-to whenever my skin needs serious intervention. The Meltdown Recovery Cream is the newest addition and it has already proven itself for reactive skin days and post-procedure recovery. And the Barrier Balm stick comes with me every time I travel. Three very different products. One very coherent range.

Kerry Washington’s Blonde Braids Have Me in a Spring State of Mind

0

Kerry Washington must have known that I desperately needed a mood boost after a March snowstorm, because she brought the springtime sunshine to the red carpet with the prettiest dimensional blonde braids.

Washington was in New York City for a SAG-AFTRA Foundation Conversations event for her new Apple TV series Imperfect Women, speaking alongside her costars Kate Mara and Elisabeth Moss. For the event, the actor wore her hair in long, textured braids that incorporated multiple shades of blonde and brunette hues, including some very bright, chunky highlights woven throughout. Washington’s hair was parted in the center and loosely braided into two portions, one of which she wore over her shoulder, brushing the strap of her black tank top with a cool belted detail. And these weren’t just blonde-streaked braids—they were also very long braids, flowing all the way down to her hips.

Getty Images

This is definitely one of Washington’s blondest looks in awhile, with shades of gold, wheat, strawberry, and honey blonde in the mix. The warm tones in the braids absolutely glowed, especially when paired with a striking pop of more dramatic color from the super-blonde, nearly platinum color in the mid-lengths, which blended with chocolate and espresso brunette tones for a cool color contrast. Soft, airy curls escaped the braids on either side of her face and in the mid-lengths, adding a romantic, springy texture.

If you’re in the mood for a spring refresh of your own, we feel you—and we’ve been busy trend hunting for the best spring hair color and cuts to get you started. Maybe you fancy a “modern shag” or some long waterfall waves to ring in spring? For those vibing with Washington’s warm blonde color blend, may we suggest Hamptons blonde, a buttery, golden-honey color that feels like soft sunshine, or the rooty, lived-in-cool of caramel beige? ‘Tis the season to brighten up your color and have a little fun with your look!

9 Foods You Might Think Are High in Protein but Actually Aren’t

0

Misconceptions about protein are everywhere, from how much of it you need in a day to the best food sources available. If you’re really trying to maximize your intake of the macro, the latter is particularly important—especially because a bunch of foods that are commonly touted as high in protein actually aren’t as packed as you might think

“The key issue here is that many of these so-called ‘high-protein’ foods are secondary sources of protein,” Sapna Peruvemba, MS, RDN, founder of Health by Sapna, tells SELF. While these foods do contain some of the all-important nutrient, the majority of their nutritional makeup actually consists of others, like fat or carbs. So if you want a single item to do most of the heavy lifting on the protein front, you might want to look at your options a little more carefully. Many of these so-called “high-protein” foods actually don’t contain enough to get you to the recommended 15 grams or so per meal on their own.

To be clear, this is not to say these foods aren’t deserving of a spot on your plate. Even though the marketing machine may have seized on protein as a selling point, both fats and carbs are just as critical for good health: Fat supports cell growth and helps you absorb other nutrients like vitamins A and E. Meanwhile, carbs are the body’s main source of energy.

That said, if you’re focused on increasing your protein intake or reaching a certain protein goal (whether to help your muscles recover after a workout or simply to stop your stomach from growling between meals!), you’re better off considering fats and carbs helpful sidekicks rather than the main character. Here are nine foods that are commonly misconstrued as protein-packed, plus some expert-approved ways to beef them up.

1. Peanut butter

GymTok would have you believe that peanut butter is the poster child for plant-based sources of protein, but in reality, the nutty spread is primarily composed of healthy fats; its protein content is a meager four grams per tablespoon, Peruvemba says.

Just because peanut butter is skimpy on protein doesn’t make it short on flavor, though, so feel free to continue spooning it up. It can still round out a meal nicely: add it to a smoothie made with yogurt or whole milk, or use in a savory dish like tofu curry or black bean soup.
