Half Magic Beauty UK Launch at Sephora: Review, Swatches & Must-Have Picks

If you love bold, playful makeup with serious sparkle, the arrival of Half Magic Beauty in the UK is very good news. The brand has officially landed at Sephora UK, and it’s an exclusive launch worth getting excited about.

Known for its high-impact glitter, duo chrome finishes and unapologetically fun aesthetic, Half Magic sits firmly in the “makeup as self-expression” category. Think festival energy, party glam, and a little bit of chaos, in the best way.

I’ve been playing with a selection of products, so here’s everything you need to know, including my honest thoughts, swatches, and what I’d actually recommend buying.

What is Half Magic Beauty? (And Why Is Everyone Talking About It?)

Half Magic Beauty UK Launch at Sephora: Review, Swatches & Must-Have Picks
Half Magic Beauty UK Launch at Sephora

Half Magic Beauty was co-founded by Donni Davy, the Emmy-winning makeup artist behind the hit HBO series Euphoria (which I am ashamed to say, I have never seen!). I think maybe I’ll put it on my list.

However, if you’ve ever saved a makeup look from Euphoria, chances are it was her work that was all about taking makeup a more expressive, artistic space.

Half Magic was born directly from that movement. In fact, the brand was created off the back of the global beauty phenomenon sparked by Euphoria and its fans.

The name “Half Magic” refers to the idea that the products are only part of the story, the other half is you.

The Vibe: Playful, Sparkly, Slightly Chaotic (In a Good Way)

This is not a “no-makeup makeup” brand.

Half Magic is all about:

  • Glitter, shimmer and multidimensional finishes
  • Bold colour and duochrome textures
  • Experimental, expressive looks

It sits firmly in that party / festival / creative makeup space and with formulas that are designed to be usable and not intimidating.

My Half Magic Beauty Review & Swatches

I’ve tried a mix of eye, lip and glitter products. Here’s a breakdown of each one:

Glitterpuck Pressed Glitter (Shade: Glimmer Pop)*

This is such a standout if you love sparkle. The texture is what really surprised me. It has an almost wet-feel finish rather than a chunky glitter, which makes it much easier to apply and wear. It gives that glossy, editorial sparkle without feeling gritty.

Half Magic Beauty UK: Glitterpuck in Glimmer Pill
Half Magic Beauty UK: Glitterpuck in Glimmer Pill

The shade Glimmer Pop* is gorgeous and catches the light beautifully. I think this will look amazing on the eyes for nights out or parties. I haven’t tried this yet as I have just started wearing contact lenses and I am just being a bit cautious with anything that I don’t usually use around the eyes.

Eyeshadow Single (Shade: Blushing Lizard)*

This shade instantly gave me nostalgia. It really reminds me of MAC Club, which was actually my first ever MAC eyeshadow.

Half Magic Beauty UK: Single Eyeshadow in Blushing Lizard
Half Magic Beauty UK: Single Eyeshadow in Blushing Lizard
Half Magic Beauty UK: Single Eyeshadow in Blushing Lizard
Half Magic Beauty UK: Single Eyeshadow in Blushing Lizard

Blushing Lizard* has that same duo chrome shift, but I’d say it’s slightly softer and more wearable. It’s easier to throw on for everyday looks while still giving that multi-dimensional finish.

Half Magic Beauty UK: Single Eyeshadow in Blushing Lizard Swatch
Half Magic Beauty UK: Single Eyeshadow in Blushing Lizard Swatch

It’s one of those shades that looks like you’ve put in more effort than you actually have.

Glitterpill Eye Paint + Eyeliner (Shade: Microcosm)

This is a really fun product if you like experimenting. It works as both a liner and an eye paint, and the finish is super sparkly and reflective. Perfect for adding a pop of sparkle either as a graphic liner or layered over shadow.

Half Magic Beauty UK: Glitter Pill in Microcosm
Half Magic Beauty UK: Glitter Pill in Microcosm

Definitely more of a creative/occasion product than everyday, but that’s kind of the whole point of the brand.

Magic Drip Glitter Lip Gloss (Shade: Y2K Cherub)

If you like a glitter gloss, this is a nice comfortable formula. The glitter is fine and flattering rather than overwhelming.

Half Magic Beauty UK: Magic Drip Lip Gloss in Y2K Cherub
Half Magic Beauty UK: Magic Drip Lip Gloss in Y2K Cherub

That said, the shade Y2K Cherub is a little too pale for me personally. I think it would work better either layered over a deeper lip liner or on lighter lip tones.

Sculptitude Dual-Ended Lip Liner (Shade: Ur My Taupe / Badassery Parade)

This is my favourite product from everything I tried.

Half Magic Beauty UK: Sculptitude Lipliner in Ur My Taupe / Badassery Parade
Half Magic Beauty UK: Sculptitude Lipliner in Ur My Taupe / Badassery Parade

The Ur My Taupe* side is perfect for contouring the lips. It adds definition while still looking natural. It blends beautifully and is really easy to work with.

Half Magic Beauty UK: Sculptitude Lipliner in Ur My Taupe
Half Magic Beauty UK: Sculptitude Lipliner in Ur My Taupe

I’ve been wearing it with my REESON Glossing Balm in Dewy Rose, and it gives such a full, volumised lip look. I am wearing that combo in this video:

The formula is long-lasting and glides on really smoothly.

The only downside for me is that Badassery Parade is too dark for how I like to wear lip liner, so I won’t get much use out of that side.

Half Magic Beauty UK: Sculptitude Lipliner in Ur My Taupe / Badassery Parade Swatches
Half Magic Beauty UK: Sculptitude Lipliner in Ur My Taupe / Badassery Parade Swatches

However, the duo in Emo Rose / Prancing Queen* looks much more up my street. Glad to have this one though for Ur My Taupe and the stylo has gone straight in my makeup bag. Maybe I can use the other end on my eyes?

Is Half Magic Beauty Worth It?

If you love sparkle, shine and playful makeup, this brand is a lot of fun. It’s not about everyday minimal makeup, It’s about experimenting, going out, and embracing a more bold, glittery aesthetic.

My Top Picks:

Final Thoughts

Overall, this is a really fun, expressive collection that feels perfect for parties, nights out, and anyone who loves a bit of sparkle. There are some genuinely lovely formulas here, especially the lip liner, and even the more experimental products feel wearable with a little creativity.

If you’ve been waiting for something a bit different to land in the UK beauty space, this is definitely one to check out.

Is Bamboo Greenwashed? – Gurl Gone Green

0

Bamboo has become quite popular recently due to many of us looking for better options for our homes and our families. From baby pajamas to bedding and even toilet paper, brands often market bamboo as a sustainable and eco-friendly option.

As with anything, sometimes we need to dig a little deeper and see what the facts are. So what’s the truth about bamboo? Is it really the sustainable and clean material brands claim—or is it yet another example of greenwashing? I am breaking it all down below.

Bamboo Details

Bamboo is technically a grass, not a tree, and it grows quite fast. I have found that some species can even grow 1-3 feet per day! Because of this fast growth, it is a renewable resource and quite sustainable.

Pros Of Using Bamboo

  • Grows quickly
  • Overall requires less pesticide use than other crops
  • Requires less water usage than other crops
  • Regenerates quickly after having been harvested
  • Can be used for a variety of things – fabrics, paper, construction materials, utensils and so much more!

So far this seems like a no-brainer! Up to this point bamboo is less toxic and more sustainable than many other options, however the process of making bamboo into fabrics and papers needs to be looked at in more detail as not all products made from bamboo are created equally.

How Is Bamboo Fabric Made?

Unfortunately to transform bamboo into a fabric, a significant process must take place called regenerated cellulose fiber processing.

This is essentially a term used in the textile world to describe how a natural material (like bamboo) is broken down and then rebuilt into a usable fiber. This can happen through chemical processing or, less commonly, mechanical methods.

So while bamboo starts as a plant, the fabric that results has usually gone through a process where it’s broken down and “regenerated” into a wearable/usable textile. And this is where the question of the sustainability of bamboo comes in.

The two main types of bamboo fabrics are bamboo viscose and bamboo lycocell. When checking the labels on your clothing, this information should be readily available so you know what you are buying. And it’s important to know as the processing of these two different types of bamboo fabrics is quite different from a sustainability and toxin standpoint.

If you want to truly know what your product is made from, the label should say more than 100% organic bamboo.

Types of Bamboo Fabric

Bamboo Viscose

**Most Common** This is the way most bamboo fabric is made and what you’ll find in most bamboo clothing and bedding.

The bamboo is harvested, broken down into a pulp, and then dissolved using harsh chemical solvents to create a liquid that’s turned into fibers. Those fibers are spun into the soft fabric we all associate with bamboo. While the end result is incredibly soft, this process is heavily processed and similar to how rayon is made (rayon is typically made from wood pulp while viscose is made from cellulose in the plant wall), which means it’s not quite as “natural” as it’s often marketed.

    Bamboo Lycocell

The lyocell process is a more eco-conscious way of turning the bamboo plant into fabric. Like viscose, the bamboo is broken down into pulp, but the key difference is that not only are the solvents used less toxic/non-toxic, but they are recycled in a closed-loop system instead of being released into the environment. This results in a fabric that’s still soft and breathable, but created in a much more environmentally responsible way. It’s typically more expensive, which is why it’s unfortunately less common.

      Bamboo Linen

This is the most sustainable and lower tox way to make bamboo fabric. It uses a mechanical process (no harsh chemicals!) that includes enzymes to break down the bamboo. The resulting fabric is strong and durable, but the down side is that the production is costly and labor intensive. Thus, this is a more rare bamboo fabric.

        100% bamboo
While products made from 100% bamboo sound clean and sustainable, it is the processing of the bamboo that you really need to know about.

        Pros of Bamboo Fabric

Bamboo fabric has become popular for things like pajamas, bedding, and baby clothing and here are a few reasons why:

        • Very soft – If you have never felt bamboo, you are missing out. I have found the softness it offers is unmatched by many other materials.
        • Breathable – Helps regulate body temperature and doesn’t trap heat
        • Moisture-wicking – Great for keeping skin dry, especially for kids and babies
        • Gentle – Often a good option for those with skin sensitivities
        • Lightweight and comfortable – Makes it ideal for everyday wear and sleepwear

        Cons of Bamboo Fabric

While bamboo fabric has some great benefits, there are definitely a few things to consider.

        • Heavily processed (in most cases) – Especially with bamboo viscose, which uses chemical processing (see above if you missed all the details on this)
        • Environmental concerns – If not produced responsibly, the chemical process can contribute to pollution
        • Durability issues – Some bamboo fabrics can pill or wear out faster over time
        • Lack of transparency – Not all brands clearly disclose how their bamboo fabric is made and that is a red flag

This doesn’t mean you need to avoid bamboo completely, but it does mean it’s worth paying attention to how the fabric is made, not just what it’s made from.

        100% bamboo toilet paper
Bamboo toilet paper is not made in the same way as bamboo fabrics.

        What about bamboo toilet paper?

Thankfully, the process of making bamboo into paper is not the same as making it into fabric.

Of course, not all brands are created equal, so it’s still worth checking how a company sources and processes their bamboo.

Bamboo vs Cotton: Which is better?

Bamboo definitely has some advantages. It grows quickly, typically requires less water, and needs fewer pesticides. Plus, the fabric itself is incredibly soft and comfortable to wear.

However cotton – especially organic cotton – has some important benefits too.

Organic cotton is grown without harmful pesticides and doesn’t require the same level of chemical processing to turn it into fabric. It’s also more widely regulated and tends to have better transparency when it comes to sourcing.

Ultimately it’s not about choosing one over the other, but more about choosing brands and products wisely.

My Honest Take On Bamboo Fabric: Is it greenwashed?

While I used to think of bamboo as a great alternative to synthetic options like polyester, I know now that it really requires a deeper understanding of how the product was made.  It not as simple as saying it’s made of bamboo so it must be clean anymore- you have to look deeper into how was it processed, and what type of bamboo fabric is it?  As I say with natural living in general, things are a lot more nuanced than they seem.

I do think that bamboo can be greenwashed because of lack of transparency as a whole. Most people purchasing bamboo would not realize all that goes into bamboo or what to look for, so it can be misleading. I also think when you hear the word bamboo you often associate it with being more natural and clean, however, there is a darker side to bamboo that most people aren’t aware of.

Conclusion: Do I still buy items made from bamboo for my family?

I don’t actively seek out bamboo for my family.  Not that I ever did, but anytime I saw bamboo on a label I used to think it was a more natural option, whereas I know now to look beyond just the word bamboo and ask more questions.  I have bought bamboo toilet paper in the past but now I would consider other cotton options, even though toilet paper is less processed it still can contain hidden chemicals. Ultimately, it comes back to what you feel comfortable using and your standards.

Allure Editors Tried Cécred’s Styling Collection on 6 Different Curl Patterns

0

At long last, Cécred has launched styling products. Take a moment to celebrate—we certainly did. If you’ve ever seen Beyoncé perform, you know her hairstyles can withstand strong winds, proximity to flames, and high humidity. Now, with this seven-piece collection, the singer has finally revealed how she keeps her hair in place.

For those of you who are new to Cécred, here’s a refresher: When Beyoncé announced the launch of her hair-care brand in 2024, fans saw it as their best shot at achieving lustrous, voluminous, “Bey-level” curls. The first products included washday essentials formulated to help nourish your hair and scalp. The singer’s mom and former hairdresser, Tina Knowles, helped develop them, bringing her in-salon experience and expertise to the brand. Fans were right to be hyped about the collection. The Allure editors who tested it immediately incorporated some of its products into their hair-care routines. The team was especially impressed with the Cécred Restoring Hair and Edge Drops, so much so that it earned a 2025 Best of Beauty Award.

The addition of styling products to the Cécred lineup makes perfect sense for the brand’s next move. After all, fans have been pining for them: “Please let it be for styling, I beg,” wrote one Instagram user in the comments of a teaser post for the launch. “Please be a heat protector, I’ve been wanting this,” added another.

The collection includes a heat-protectant mist, styling glaze, volumizing mousse, hairspray, wrapping foam, strong-hold gel, and an edge brush. And because Bey is looking out for the curls we worked so hard to coddle, each styler is equipped with heat protection. Cécred calls it the “StemShield Complex,” and while the exact formulation remains under wraps, there are some clues on the product labels.

Laura Lam-Phaure, a Los Angeles-based cosmetic chemist, points to a blend of recurring ingredients across the formulas as being responsible for shielding your hair from temperatures up to 450 degrees: watermelon seed oil, schinziophyton rautanenii [mongongo] Kernel Oil, Ximenia Americana [sour plum] seed oil, zymomonas [fermenting agent] extract, and honey extract. It’s worth noting, Lam-Phaure adds, that Cécred leans on plant-based heat protectants rather than traditional silicone-heavy formulations.

As for what the styling collection smells like, it shares the same musky floral scent as the brand’s previous lineups—blending notes of sandalwood, Haitian vetiver, oud, jasmine, and musk. To some it smells earthy, while others find it herbaceous. The consensus, though, is that it smells so good.

To see how the brand’s latest launch performs on different hair types, we tested the styling products on wavy, curly, and coily textures. Ahead, read our full thoughts on the collection.

Prada Reflection Glossy Liquid Balm

The lip gloss/lip balm lover in me had to try the new Prada Reflection Glossy Liquid Balms ($45 each, Prada and Nordstrom). Picked up three shades to try to see if they were worth the splurge. These come in a similar (if not identical) packaging to the Prada Blurring Micro-Correcting Concealer (demo here of MN5, MN6 + a few more shades, review coming soon).

These balms are ultra smooth, nonsticky and soft, just like a soft balm in gloss form. They have a very slight tingly sensation with some plumping. They feel like a cushion on the lips.

Pigment varies by shade. Out of the three I picked, one is almost clear but the other two have a nice tint.

Glossier You Soie Eau de Parfum Review - A New You for 2026

I’ve been so excited to write this review on the brand Glossier You Soie since I got my bottle at the Space NK fragrance event last week. It is the new addition to the Glossier You family, and I think it’s exactly what fans of the original have been hoping for – soft, cosy, sexy, and effortless scent for everyday. It has all the easy, skin-like vibes of Glossier You, but with a sun-kissed, warm, slightly indulgent twist. Here’s everything you need to know!

What is Glossier You Soie Eau de Parfum?

Glossier You Soie is described as a modern, wearable fragrance that’s subtle, personal, and a little more sensual than the original. At first spritz, it’s softly salty and clean, but it develops a creamy, cocoa butter-y warmth that makes it feel like sunlight on the skin.

The promo pictures show sandy beaches and a bright blue bottle, and while it’s not a literal “beach scent,” it does have this luminous, solar, slightly lactonic white floral vibe that feels light, bright, and happy.

Glossier You Soie Review

My Review of Glossier You Soie Eau de Parfum
My Review of Glossier You Soie Eau de Parfum

First Impressions

The very first spritz of Glossier You Soie is fresh and softly citrusy but not for long at all. It seems to move quickly to the heart. It immediately feels approachable, like a fragrance you don’t have to think twice about, cosy and comfortable,

It quickly starts to evolve. The heart has a creamy, cocoa butter-y vibe, with a touch of white florals and a subtle hint of saltiness that adds a sun-kissed edge. It’s not a literal beach fragrance, but the saltiness gives it a light, luminous quality that feels warm and radiant. That is exactly what I was hoping for given the blue bottle and sandy promo imagery.

What I love is that this fragrance doesn’t try too hard. It hugs your skin in the best way, soft, cosy, slightly sexy, making it perfect for daytime wear or a casual evening out. True to the original You, it doesn’t say hello before you do – it’s more of little something that follows you around, leaving a natural, comforting trace.

How It Wears

Projection is subtle, which is perfect if you like fragrances that feel skin-like but noticeable. Longevity is solid, lasting a good few hours without fading into nothing.

The evolution is what makes it interesting. On first spray, you notice delicious musk that melts into creamy rice milk. There’s also a soft, salty nuance that adds a sun-kissed lift and makes the fragrance feel more summery and radiant. A touch of jasmine ties it all together, keeping it soft, intimate, and wearable.

If you want something subtle but undeniably pretty, this is for you. Honestly, I think this is going to go down really well with fans of wearable, skin-like fragrances that are still a little indulgent.

My Overall Thoughts

Overall, Glossier You Soie is everything I wanted from a new Glossier fragrance. I genuinely love this one. It is simple but indulgent, soft without being boring, easy to wear but still interesting. It is warmer, more sun-kissed, and flirtier than the original You, and I love that. Could it be a modern classic in the making? I definitely think it is going to be a huge hit.

Comparison With Original Glossier You

Soie takes the signature skin-like warmth of Glossier You and adds a sun-kissed twist. The original is bright, clean, and subtle, while Soie adds creamy, lactonic notes and gentle musk, making it slightly warmer, softer, and more indulgent.

Packaging & Bottle Design

The bottle for Glossier You Soie is a beautiful, deep blue, which might surprise some people who were expecting a “beachy” vibe. This is the deep blue sea. Think walking on the beach just after sunset, when the sky turns deep blue and the sand still holds the warmth of the day.

Why Consistency is the Key to Calm – 100% PURE

0

Stop waiting for a flare-up to care for your skin.

That single shift in mindset changes everything.

Most people treat sensitive skin like a fire—something that only deserves attention when it burns. Redness appears, irritation spikes, and suddenly the shelves are searched for a “rescue” product strong enough to put it out.

But what if that entire model is flawed?

At 100% PUREwe don’t believe in constantly extinguishing fires. We believe in building something far more powerful:

A fireproof house.

This is the difference between Crisis Management and Strength Maintenance.

Because the truth is uncomfortable—but necessary:

Rescue culture doesn’t heal sensitive skin. It trains it to stay reactive.

Every time the skin is exposed to harsh, quick-fix solutions—highly active ingredients, aggressive treatments, unstable formulations—it is pushed into a cycle of stress and recovery. Temporary relief is achieved, but at a cost: the skin barrier never learns to stabilise itself.

Instead, it becomes dependent.

What if calm skin isn’t something you chase—but something you build daily?

That is where consistency becomes more than a habit.

It becomes an act of Active Sovereignty.

The Biology of Habit: How Your Barrier Learns Resilience

Skin is not static. It is a living, regenerating system governed by cycles, signals, and adaptation.

At the core of this system is a fundamental biological rhythm:
the 28-day skin cell turnover cycle.

Every 28 days, new keratinocytes rise from the basal layer to replace the outermost cells of the skin. These cells form the stratum corneumthe protective barrier responsible for:

  • Retaining moisture
  • Blocking irritants
  • Maintaining structural integrity

Here’s the critical insight most “rescue” routines ignore:

The strength of your skin tomorrow depends on what you do consistently today.

Why Rescue Products Fall Short

Rescue products are designed to act quickly. They often rely on:

  • Strong anti-inflammatory agents
  • Quick scrubs
  • High-potency actives

While these can reduce visible redness in the short term, they rarely influence the deeper process of cellular education.

They treat the symptom, not the system.

Worse, repeated use of aggressive interventions can disrupt lipid organisation within the barrier, increasing transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and lowering the skin’s tolerance threshold.

The result?

  • Faster reactivity
  • Increased sensitivity
  • More frequent flare-ups

This is known as the rebound effect—where temporary relief is followed by heightened irritation.

The Science of Silence: Lowering the Inflammation Baseline

In contrast, a consistent, gentle routine works differently.

Instead of reacting to inflammation, it prevents its escalation.

This is what we call the Science of Silence.

By:

  • Avoiding harsh, destabilising ingredients
  • Providing consistent hydration and lipids
  • Supporting the microbiome
  • Reducing environmental stressors daily

…the skin’s baseline level of inflammation begins to decrease.

It doesn’t happen overnight.

But over time, something remarkable occurs:

The skin stops expecting stress.

Its internal signalling pathways—those responsible for triggering redness and irritation—begin to quiet down.

New cells are formed in a calmer environment. They integrate better lipid structures. They function more efficiently.

This is how tolerance is rebuilt.

Not through intensity—but through consistency.

The Strategic Spine: Why These 5 Products Matter

At 100% PURE, a routine is never just a collection of products.

It is a methodology.

The Sensitive-Skin Strength Ritual is designed to function as a system—each step reinforcing the others, creating a continuous cycle of protection, restoration, and resilience.

This is not about doing more.

It is about doing the right things, repeatedly.

Daily Management: Controlling the Invisible Stressors

Calendula Flower Cleansing Milk

Cleansing is often underestimated, yet it is the first point of contact between the skin and the external world.

Throughout the day, the skin accumulates:

  • Pollution particles
  • Oxidative stress molecules
  • Microbial debris

If not removed gently, these can trigger low-grade inflammation.

The Calendula Flower Cleansing Milk addresses this without stripping the skin.

Its lipid-preserving formula ensures that essential barrier components remain intact, while calendula’s bioactive compounds help calm irritation at the earliest stage.

This is not just cleansing.

It is preventative care.

Matcha Oat Face Scrub

Exfoliation, when done incorrectly, is one of the fastest ways to weaken sensitive skin.

But when approached strategically, it becomes a tool for resilience.

The Matcha Oat Face Scrub uses finely milled oats to provide gentle mechanical exfoliation while simultaneously delivering soothing lipids.

Matcha contributes catechins—potent antioxidants that neutralise reactive oxygen species generated by environmental exposure.

Together, they:

  • Smooth the skin’s surface
  • Enhance product absorption
  • Reduce oxidative stress

This is exfoliation redefined—not as aggression, but as refinement.

Weekly Restoration: The Check-In Your Skin Needs

Matcha Oat Milk Nourishing Mask

Even the most consistent routines benefit from intentional pauses.

The Matcha Oat Milk Nourishing Mask acts as a weekly “check-in”—a moment where the skin receives concentrated restoration.

Rich in beta-glucans, oats help:

  • Calm inflammation
  • Enhance hydration
  • Support barrier repair

The mask environment allows these compounds to interact deeply with the skin, reinforcing the progress made during daily care.

Think of it as a reset—not because something went wrong, but because maintenance requires reinforcement.

Daily Armour: Preventing the Need for Rescue

Intensive Nourishing Facial Oil

If hydration is the foundation, lipids are the architecture.

The Intensive Nourishing Facial Oil replenishes essential fatty acids within the barrier, ensuring that corneocytes remain tightly bound.

This reduces TEWL and improves elasticity.

More importantly, it creates a flexible, resilient structure that can withstand environmental fluctuations without breaking down.

This is not just nourishment.

It is structural reinforcement.

Seaberry Moisturizer

The final layer is protection.

The Seaberry Moisturizer delivers a potent blend of vitamins A, C, and E, along with essential fatty acids derived from sea buckthorn.

These components:

  • Neutralise free radicals
  • Support collagen integrity
  • Maintain hydration balance

When layered over facial oil, it creates a breathable seal that locks in moisture while shielding the skin from external aggressors.

This is your daily armour.

And when armour is consistent, rescue becomes unnecessary.

Conclusion

The skincare industry thrives on urgency.

Quick fixes. Instant results. Overnight transformations.

But your skin does not operate on urgency.

It operates on patterns.

Strength is not built in moments of crisis.

It is built in moments of repetition.

By choosing a routine rooted in gentleness, consistency, and scientific understanding, you step out of the cycle of reactivity and into a state of permanent calm.

This is the power of a “Quiet” routine.

Not louder.

Not stronger.

But smarter.

Because in the end, the goal is not to rescue your skin.

It is to make sure it never needs rescuing again.

FAQ

Why do “quick fix” products often cause more redness later?

Many quick-fix products rely on strong, fast-acting ingredients that suppress inflammation temporarily. However, they can disrupt the skin barrier and increase TEWL, leading to a rebound effect where the skin becomes even more reactive once the product is discontinued.

What if I forget my routine for a few days?

Your skin is resilient, and missing a few days will not undo your progress. However, the barrier thrives on consistency. Over time, repeated daily care follows what is known as the “Lindy Effect”—the longer a habit is maintained, the stronger and more stable its results become.

Does this routine change based on the weather?

Yes, but subtly. In colder or drier conditions, layering the Intensive Nourishing Facial Oil beneath the Seaberry Moisturizer provides additional protection. In more humid climates, lighter application may be sufficient. The core routine remains the same—the adjustment lies in intensity, not structure.

Are Bodyweight Exercises Actually Enough to Grow Muscle and Improve Strength?

0

As trendy as the weight room might be these days, the world of barbells and dumbbells can be a pretty intimidating place. There are gym bros grunting. There’s metal slamming. And the heavy equipment looks like an injury waiting to happen. So what about strength training without all that— using just your own body with moves like air squats and planks?

Officially known as bodyweight exercises, this type of workout can offer legit benefits. For starters, it’s super accessible. “Bodyweight is a great, free option that can be done anywhere,” Kristie Larson, CSCS, founder of Tension, a strength training studio for women in Brooklyn, tells SELF. It doesn’t matter if it’s storming outside or you’re traveling, you can crank out a few push-ups or lunges without any equipment (or even much space).

But can you really grow muscle and get stronger on bodyweight workouts alone? Well, that depends. Here’s what experts want you to know before you ditch the dumbbells altogether.

Bodyweight load can vary

Not all bodyweight exercises are equal. Depending on which muscles an exercise is targeting, and which part of the body is acting as the “weight,” difficulty can vary from totally manageable to brutally hard.

Think about it: “You’re not going to get benefit out of doing bodyweight biceps curls,” Meredith Witte, MS, CSCS, founder of functional strength training platform The Playground, tells SELF. Since the only thing you’d be moving up and down is your forearm and hand, there’s virtually no stress put on the muscle.

Yet doing a push-up requires you to support up to 75% of your body mass, according to a study in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. For a 150-pound person, that means moving 112.5 pounds—which is why push-ups are so freaking tough, even without stacking any weight plates on your back.

Then there are lower-body moves like lunges and squats, which also use the majority of your body as the load. But because you’re working some of the largest muscles in your body—like the glutes and quads—it takes a pretty significant challenge to create tiny tears in muscle tissue that rebuild back stronger, leading to gains. “For the average person, bodyweight squats are not going to be enough,” Witte says. “Our legs are very strong, and so they’re going to feel challenged by body weight, but it’s still really not going to be enough to sufficiently build muscle, unless you truly have not worked out before, or you are an older adult who has not been working out.”

Fantasy-Lip Art Has Taken Over Feeds in 2026 — With Photos

0

Fantasy-lip art is taking over. No, you’re not imagining it. Yes, we know it’s 2026 and that clean-girl beauty and ballet buns have long been dominating feeds. But bolder lip art—featuring high-contrasting colors, metallic (and often iridescent) finishes, and whimsical details—have been showing up on feeds, runways, and in the concert performances of your favorite pop stars. (We’re looking at you, Zara Larsson.)

We predicted a colorful shift in makeup trends for 2026, and we’re thrilled to see that forecast come to life, not only because we were—ahem—right, but because the results have been nothing short of inspiring. Ahead we explore today’s fascination with fantasy-lip art.

In this story

Why is fantasy-lip art popping up in 2026?

It’s easy to overlook vivid makeup looks when our algorithms have been pushing us toward more pared-back aesthetics over the last year. But we want to be very clear: Makeup maximalism never truly went away. Every decade has had its more imaginative beauty moments: There were the bursts of blush of the ’80s; the allover body shimmer of the ’90s; the chrome finishes of the early aughts; and the late 2010s brought us rainbow-shadow looks (à la Coachella) and face gems (thanks to HBO’s Euphoria). We’re betting that one of this year’s hallmarks will be fantasy lips.

Considering the current social, political, and economic climate, it makes perfect sense that this use of punchy, contrasting colors harkens back to previous decades. The beauty trends of 2026 have been all about seeking comfort and familiarity, and loud lip looks give us that. Julia Edwards, a London-based makeup artist, says it best: “This trend is rooted in girlhood nostalgia, play, and prioritizing self-expression.”

Donni Davy, lead makeup artist on Euphoria and the cofounder of Half Magic, echoes this, highlighting the parallels between the current fascination with maximalist lips and the Y2K and ’90s club-kid eras. Elements of these aesthetics are “coming in hot for 2026, adding dimension to otherwise simple lip looks,” she says, noting that we’ll see this reflected in Euphoria’s upcoming season.

The fantasy-lip trend can also be interpreted as a reaction to more subdued looks. “I think we are seeing the pendulum swing in the opposite direction from the clean-girl [aesthetic],” Alexandra French, an Emmy Award-winning makeup artist in Los Angeles, previously told Allure.

Edwards takes this idea further. “To me, the clean-girl trend was most suited to the male gaze—focusing on creating a ‘natural but better’ appearance and uplifting subtle enhancements that emphasize symmetry,” she explains. Edwards goes on to say that she recognizes that there’s a time and place for stripped-back beauty, “but as discussions around women’s rights and identity continue to evolve, beauty becomes another space for agency and self-definition.”

Jodie Sweetin on Why Colorectal Cancer Screening Can’t Wait

0

Colorectal cancer is a conversation more people should be having, and a new campaign is making that easier to start. Abbott—the parent company of Cologuard, an at-home colorectal cancer screening test—recently launched “The (Second) Talk,” a nostalgic, sitcom-style commercial reuniting former Full House co-stars Jodie Sweetin and John Stamos to spotlight the importance of screening—and how simple it can be.

The timing feels especially urgent: Colorectal cancer remains the second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S. and the leading cause of cancer death among people under 50, yet many still delay or skip screening altogether. For Sweetin, it hits close to home. Keep scrolling to watch the commercial, then read our interview, where she opens up to NewBeauty about the experiences that shaped her perspective, how approaching 45 has shifted the way she thinks about prevention and the small, realistic steps she believes can make a meaningful difference.

I’d love to hear what drew you to speaking out about colorectal cancer right now.

“We’ve been talking a lot about it, and it’s the number two cancer killer in the country right now, but it is the number one killer of people under 50. It is being diagnosed so often in so many people who are younger and younger and younger.

I have several bits of personal experience with colorectal cancer. My best friend’s younger sister, who was in her early 40s, left behind her children and was not diagnosed until she had a C-section with her last kid. She passed not long after because it was stage four, and they couldn’t catch it.

Then another very dear friend of mine, right around the beginning of the pandemic, had been dealing with Crohn’s—or what they thought was Crohn’s—and it was getting worse and worse. She saw a new doctor, and they said, ‘Take this Cologuard test and let’s eliminate that.’ Within like 10 days, she was starting radiation and chemo and had part of her colon removed.

I know firsthand just how much it impacts people and how much we miss by not screening or thinking that screening has to be only a colonoscopy. Who wants to be drinking the prep? If there is an easier way that your doctor recommends, then why not? To be able to do it at home, there’s kind of no excuse. Oftentimes with colon cancer, you show no symptoms until it is really bad.”

Has learning more about colorectal cancer changed the way you approach your own health or preventative care?

“I probably worry a lot more about what I eat. It doesn’t mean I’m always eating healthy, but knowing that 45 is when they want people to start screening—I’ll be 45 in January—it’s made me much more conscious of what I’m putting in my body and trying to balance it with fiber, fruits and vegetables.

It’s hard. Our economy does not make eating healthy easy or cheap. Even fast food right now—you go to McDonald’s for three people, and it’s like $45. A lot of people are really struggling with eating foods that can help prevent certain cancers.

I have daughters who are almost 18 and almost 16, so I’m trying to remind them how important eating healthy is. Sometimes it sticks, and sometimes they eat Hot Cheetos for lunch, but it’s in the back of their head, and that’s what’s important.”

What stood out to you most when you learned how common colorectal cancer is and how many people still aren’t getting screened?

“I think people aren’t getting screened because of this hesitation that it’s an ordeal—that it involves drinking prep and staying home the night before and going somewhere in a gown.

Those are still incredibly important, but if we can make screening more accessible and less overwhelming, people are going to start earlier and feel less intimidated. With Cologuard, you do it at home. You ask your doctor about it, you don’t have to go anywhere. Better to know than not.

There are also a lot of people who can’t take days off work or can’t afford certain medical procedures. Hopefully, this brings screening and early detection to more people.”

I’m curious whether most people even know you can take a test at home…

“They will after they see our commercial. We definitely stress that it’s easy, it’s at home and we ship it to you.

People don’t want to leave their house to go get food these days, let alone go get a medical procedure. If we can make those early stages of screening as easy as possible, we’re going to catch more people early when it’s treatable.

If you can make healthcare and testing less intimidating and overwhelming, you’re going to save lives.”

As you approach 45, how are you thinking about staying on top of your health in a more intentional way?

“I’ve gotten back into a really good workout routine. I have a trainer one or two days a week, and I do heavy weight training, because women in perimenopausal age need to be lifting heavy weights.

I also do Pilates, dance and ride my bike—I try to stay active. I started doing it for my mental health a couple of years ago, and I noticed such a difference in my energy and how I feel.

When I’m moving my body, I’m more conscious of what I’m eating. Sometimes you still need the cheeseburger, but it all works together. Self-care builds on itself—the more you do, the better you feel. And it can also unravel the opposite way, so it’s about breaking that cycle.”

What makes a health step feel realistic to follow through with, especially for people with busy schedules?

“Make it small. Don’t try to overhaul your entire life in one go. That’s really tempting—I’m that person too—but it doesn’t stick.

Start with something manageable. Ask your doctor about the Cologuard test and get it sent to your home. That’s a relatively small step.

Little things add up—taking the stairs, moving your body. Once you start doing it, your body and mind connect in a way that reinforces those habits.”

Is there one change you’ve made that actually stuck?

“My workout routine. It wasn’t as much of a priority before, but now I see it as self-care in the same way as anything else.

It’s not optional anymore. You’re in this body for the rest of your life—you better take care of it.”

Last but not least, what would you say to someone who keeps putting off colorectal cancer screening but knows they shouldn’t?

“Get screened. Please, please, please get screened with the Cologuard test. It is so incredibly easy.

There are lots of ways to get screened, but this is something you can do at home. You can at least answer the question: is there a problem or not? And then go from there.

Just do what you can. There’s a lot to stick around for.”
