Wet Styling | Hair care & Advice

Ever wondered how to pull off wet styling your hair? If this is a question you’ve been asking yourself, this one is for you. Let’s go through the nitty-gritty of wet styling, its benefits, and how you can wet style straight, wavy, kinky, and curly hair like a pro.

What is Wet Styling?

What is wet styling? According to Evan Joseph, a professional hairstylist, wet hair styling is the process in which hair products are applied on dripping wet hair, after which excess water is squeezed out of the hair.

A common term used to refer to wet styling is wash and set. Wet styling is quite popular due to how convenient and versatile it is. You can rock it in a simple outing with friends and family or at an elegant event.

Wet Styling vs Damp Styling

Wet styling is not the same as damp styling although both of them are usually confused with each other. The main difference is that while wet styling is done when the hair is wet, damp styling is done on damp hair. That is, for damp styling, the water is squeezed out of the hair before styling or applying hair products.

Benefits of Wet Styling

There are many benefits associated with wet styling. Let’s take a look at a few of them.

1. Healthy-looking hair

Wet styling makes the hair look smooth and shiny. In addition, if your hair is damaged or fragile, wet styling will help you restore it to a healthy state.

2. Easy to Style

Hair is easier to style while wet, especially for curly and kinky hair types. The wetness reduces tangles and makes it easier to style your hair into your preferred hairstyle. You’ll also find that with wet styling, your hairstyle stays intact throughout the day.

3. Saves on Time

Wet styling saves on time since you don’t need to wait for the hair to dry before styling it. This makes it perfect for days when you’re short on time and still need to look put together for video calls or nights out.

4. Keeps the Hair Hydrated

In wet styling, hair products are applied to the hair when it’s still dripping wet. As a result, the hair stays hydrated thus being less susceptible to brittleness, and frizz. It is also a great way to prevent dry hair.

5. Suitable for all Hair Types

The beauty of wet hairstyling is that it works on all hair types. Whether you have straight, curly, wavy, or coily hair, you can pull it off. Although wet styling looks different on the various hair types, it has the same amazing benefits.

Wet Styling

Wet Styling on Different Hair Types

There are four main hair types from type 1 to 4. Each hair type is unique and requires special care. Knowing the right way to take care of your hair is an important step towards loving your hair type.

Wet styling is a process that can be applied to all hair types but is rather popular amongst women with naturally curly or wavy hair.

Wet hair styling for type 1 hair – Straight/Fine hair

Straight hair, otherwise known as fine or thin hair is a hair type that lies straight on the scalp. It is soft, shiny, most times oily, and has a poor tendency of holding curls. When it comes to wet styling, straight hair benefits immensely from the frizz-fighting benefits.

Wet styling type one hair is a straightforward process. The first step is to apply oil or serum to your wet hair. This reduces hair damage. Next, apply alcohol-free mousse from the root of the hair to the tip. Finally, squeeze out the excess water. You can leave your hair like that if you want to achieve a straight look.

However, if you want to create gentle curls, divide your hair into four equal sections, braid each of them and tie each in a bun. The tighter you make the braid, the stronger the wave will be. Untie each bun and separate the waves once your hair is dry. You now have gentle curls without much effort.

For low waves with smooth roots, separate your hair into two partitions and twist each partition to the side. Keep twisting your hair till you reach the tip. Next, spin each twist into a low bun and secure it with an elastic band. Squeeze out excess water for easy drying. Unravel each bun and separate the waves when your hair is dry.

To give more volume to your wet hairstyle, add some hair extensions. They are easy to install and are available in a variety of colors that will blend in with your hair. You can even get yourself an application kit to make adding extensions more seamless.

Wet Styling

Wet Hair Styling for type 2 hair

When it comes to wavy hair, you need to be more careful. Wavy hair has some similarities to straight hair but has a loose S-shape towards its tip. You will need to focus on forming your desired texture while avoiding frizz.

Amy Abramite, a hairstylist and the creative director at Maxine Salon in Chicago, recommends applying a mousse from the roots to the ends of the hair before wet styling. Thereafter, make use of a detangling wet brush to separate the waves.

Lightly squeeze your hair in the form of a compass to encourage a nice wave pattern to form without the frizz. Avoid messing with your hair while it’s wet to avoid your desired style from scattering. Let your hair dry naturally; also do not touch or apply anything on the hair until it dries. After the hair is completely dry, you can use a claw clip to add a dash of elegance to your look.

Wet Hair Styling For Type 3 Hair

Curly hair gets a lot of benefits from wet styling. For this hair type, it is best to style your hair while still in the shower and your hair still has a lot of moisture.

Apply hair milk on your wet hair to get medium curls. For stronger curls, apply a curl cream to soften them. Since curly hair tangles easily, use a wide-tooth comb to gently remove the tangles without breaking your hair. Afterward, apply a product of your choice to hold the style in place. You can then squeeze out the excess water and style your hair as you wish. There are many curly hairstyles you can choose from.

Wet Styling

Wet Hairstyling for Type 4 Hair

Type 4 hair is coily or kinky hair. Its curls are a lot tighter than other hair types. The hair also tangles easily and is more susceptible to frizz. Wet styling is a must for you if your hair falls under this category. This is because wet styling arranges and keeps each coil together in a uniform texture. Wet styling keeps kinky hair shiny, moisturized, and intact.

To begin wet styling your kinky hair, you need to divide your hair into sections; preferably, four partitions. Next, you apply a hydrating lotion to each section and highlight the coils. Use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers to detangle. Layering hair oil at the top helps in sealing the cuticle.
When you’re done with styling, just like wavy hair, allow your hair to dry without disturbance. Do not brush, touch, or comb your hair as the curls can untwist and become messy.

Depending on the style you want to achieve, you might need to add clip-in extensions to elevate the look. You can find more detailed information on how to install clip-in extensions for type 4 hair here.

Wet Styling Techniques for Curly

Type 3 hair benefits the most from wet styling. That is why we’re taking a closer look at the different techniques you can use for wet styling if you have curly hair. This way, you can easily change up your look by simply switching to a different wet styling technique. Here are the techniques you can use.

1. Finger-coiling

This technique is to achieve an enhanced curl definition; it is used especially when the hair has been straightened to help restore the pattern of the curls back to their natural state.

Finger-coiling is a fairly easy technique, all that is required is your index finger. If you want to finger-coil your hair, divide your hair into partitions and apply any curl cream of your choice to your soaking wet hair. Comb through the hair for an even application.

Coil each of the curls tightly around your index finger, working through each partition. Apply an enhancing curl gel to hold the shape of the ringlets. Finally, squeeze out excess water and allow the hair to dry and style as desired.

2. Shingling

Shingling is a technique that is ideal for hair that experiences a lot of shrinkage. This makes it perfect for types 3 and 4 hair.

In this styling technique, products aimed at enhancing curls such as curling creams, leave-in conditioners, or hair gel are applied to the hair. The shingling method requires you to separate and smooth the product through each curl.

Although shingling is a time-consuming process, with the right products, it is an incredible way of achieving fresh-looking curls.

3. Twist-out

Twist out is the most common wet styling technique, it is also the easiest. To create a twist out, the first step is to clean and detangle your hair. Next, part your hair into 4 partitions, after which styling products should be applied. Finally, create your twists or flat twists then allow your hair to sit overnight or air-dry while going about your daily activities.

When you’re ready, undo the twists and style as you wish. Simple, right?

4. Braid-out

The braid-out technique is similar to the twist-out technique. However, instead of two-strand twists/ flat twists, three-strand braids are made. Braid outs enhance your curl patterns and give your hair a wave-like definition.

This procedure creates less frizz, unlike the twist-out method. It is terrific for people who do not like shrinkage as braids tend to stretch out hair while still giving it the wavy look.

To accomplish the braid out technique, you have to divide your hair into eight sections and braid/twist each part. Twirl the finishes of the braids and afterward, pin the twists to your head to get them into place.

How to Get the Perfect Wet Hairstyle Each Time

Nailing the wet hairstyle every time is as simple as following a few tips. It doesn’t matter what your hair type is. These tips will work for you. All you need is to practice and you’ll get a hang of it. Here are the tips.

Wet STyling

1. Evenly Section Your Hair

Always make sure that you section your hair evenly. This ensures even distribution of the hair products you’re applying. As a result, you’ll be able to easily achieve your desired look.

2. Apply Products On Wet Hair

The point of wet hairstyling is to style the hair while it’s still wet. Apply products from the root to the tip and massage them gently into the hair for maximum penetration.

3. Style While Wet

Your hair should be shaped quickly before your hair starts drying. When it comes to wet styling, time is critical. You need to work fast in order to get the results you want.

4. Cover Your Hair

While waiting for your hair to dry, you should cover it to avoid interference. The best way to do this is by wrapping it with a silk scarf. You should also avoid touching your hair until it is fully dry.

If you’ve not tried wet hairstyling before or you simply didn’t know how to do it right, you have no excuses now. It is simple, effective, and suitable for all hair types. All the information you need is contained right here. Simply put, apply your preferred product to your wet hair, detangle, style, and let it dry. You’re now ready to go. Just carry a compact mirror to check up on your style and put back a few stray hairs.

What brands can and can’t say

0

We’re surrounded by beauty products that promise to smooth, nourish, detoxify, or even transform our skin. But how many of these cosmetic claims actually stand up to scrutiny?

Behind every glossy ad or product description lies a fine line between creative marketing and strict regulation – and far too often, brands blur that line. In this episode of Green Beauty Conversations, Lorraine Dallmeier, CEO of Formula Botanica, cuts through the jargon to uncover the truth about what brands really can and can’t say.

For centuries, the beauty industry has relied on seductive adjectives to sell products. From “anti-ageing” to “chemical-free” to “clean,” we’ve been conditioned to expect bold promises.

Yet for formulators and brand founders, these claims carry serious risks – legal, ethical and reputational. Get them wrong, and you could end up misleading consumers, losing credibility, or even facing regulatory action.

Joining Lorraine in this episode is Dr Theresa Callaghan, PhD biochemist, cosmetic claims expert and author of Help! I’m Covered in Adjectives*.

With over 37 years in the cosmetics industry, Theresa explains why cosmetic claims matter, how brands can avoid common pitfalls, and why substantiating your claims isn’t just about compliance – it’s about building trust and longevity.

If you want to create a beauty brand that’s credible, ethical and future-proof, you can’t afford to miss this episode.

Listen here

“A cosmetic claim is a tool – it’s the story you tell to sell your product – but that story must be honest, transparent and compliant if you want your brand to thrive.” — Dr Theresa Callaghan

In this episode with Dr Theresa Callaghan, you will hear:

  • What cosmetic claims really are: Theresa breaks down why cosmetic claims are more than just words on a label. From text and images to packaging and design, every part of your product communication can count as a claim, and all must meet strict criteria to stay compliant.
  • The clash between indie passion and regulation: Many indie founders enter beauty with a mission to care for skin health. But Theresa explains why talking about “healing” or “treating” can cross into the territory of medical claims, and how indie brands can navigate this tension without losing their authenticity.
  • How big and small brands get it wrong: From global giants making overblown promises to indie start-ups misusing medical terms, no one is immune. Theresa shares real-world examples of misleading cosmetic claims and the risks for beauty brands that ignore legislation.
  • Why greenwashing is the new frontier of claims: The conversation explores the shift from “free from” marketing to sustainability claims, and why “eco,” “natural”, and “green” need just as much substantiation as performance claims.
  • How to future-proof your beauty brand: Theresa offers practical advice for indie founders, including why to start with soft claims, how to run affordable consumer perception studies, and why investing in testing is an investment in the long-term credibility of your business.

Key takeouts include:

  • Cosmetic claims must avoid health or medical language: Theresa explains that brands must steer clear of medical terms such as “anti-inflammatory,” “healing,” or “acne treatment.” These fall under drug or medical device legislation. Instead, focus on benefits like hydration, comfort, or smoothness, which communicate results without straying into prohibited territory.
  • Compliance is global – but not always harmonised: While the EU’s six criteria for cosmetic claims set the international benchmark, Theresa highlights how countries like the US are still catching up. If you comply with EU standards, you are likely compliant elsewhere, but the lack of global harmonisation creates confusion and misinformation that ultimately harms consumers and brands alike.
  • Greenwashing is a claims issue, too: From “sustainable” packaging to “eco” formulas, sustainability claims are under increasing scrutiny. Theresa stresses that these cannot be treated in isolation and must be backed up with robust evidence, just like performance claims. Legislation is emerging, but many brands are still treating greenwashing as someone else’s problem.
  • Investing in substantiation builds trust and longevity: Many founders shrink at the cost of testing, but Theresa reframes it as an essential investment in brand credibility. From simple patch tests to consumer perception studies, there are scalable ways to substantiate claims. Doing this properly helps avoid regulatory pitfalls and strengthens consumer trust.
  • Transparency and consumer education are key: The industry must move towards clearer, more realistic communication. Theresa argues that educating consumers about what cosmetics can and can’t do reduces misinformation and raises expectations in line with reality.

Review: B683 Marc-Antoine Barrois For Men

0

In the world of men’s fragrances, where the quest for a signature scent can be as intricate as tailoring a bespoke suit, B683 by Marc-Antoine Barrois stands out as a masterpiece of masculine elegance. From the Parisian couture designer Marc-Antoine Barrois, renowned for his exclusive men’s fashion and accessories, this fragrance encapsulates the essence of traditional masculinity with a modern twist.

Fragrance Overview

B683 is a harmonious blend of woody and spicy notes, designed to captivate and enthral. The fragrance opens with a bold combination of saffron, black pepper, nutmeg, and red chilli pepper, immediately commanding attention with its spicy overture.

This vibrant start gracefully transitions into a heart of violet leaf, musk, amber, and labdanum, adding depth and warmth. The base of ambroxan, sandalwood, patchouli, and oakmoss grounds the fragrance, giving it a timeless and profoundly masculine finish.

The name, B683, is inspired by the asteroid of the Little Prince by Saint Exupery and by the birth date of Barrois who made it his own imaginary planet.

How Does it Wear?

From a personal perspective, B683 is a fragrance that from the first spray exudes confidence and sophistication. Its heady mix of warm spices, which evolve into an almost leather-like aroma, is particularly appealing.

The addition of violet leaf brings a subtle softness to the scent, blending seamlessly with the nutmeg to create a perfume that is undeniably masculine.

On my husband, who typically favours classic scents like Givenchy Gentleman, B683 is a perfect match. It enhances his traditional style with a modern and decidedly sexy edge. It’s a medium sillage and can be reapplied every 3 hours or so without worry of overdoing it.

Quentin Bisch: The Nose Behind B683

Quentin Bisch of Givaudan, is the master perfumer behind B683. His expertise in men’s fragrance, including 1 Million, Azzaro Wanted by Night, Bad Boy and Le Male Le Parfum, have contributed to the creation of this unique scent, which has become a cornerstone of Marc-Antoine Barrois’ fragrance collection since its launch in 2016.

B683 Marc Antoine Barrois Paris 2 1

Who is Marc-Antoine Barrois?

Marc-Antoine Barrois, a couturier par excellence, brings his extensive experience in haute couture into the realm of fragrance. Having honed his skills under the tutelage of luminaries in the fashion world, including Dominique Sirop, Hermes, Jean-Paul Gaultier, and Jitrois, Barrois has imbued his creations with a sense of exclusivity and elegance.

This commitment to exceptional craftsmanship is evident in B683, a fragrance that complements his couture menswear and accessory line.

Conclusion

B683 by Marc-Antoine Barrois, with Quentin Bisch’s expert touch, offers a refined and distinct scent that makes a subtle yet memorable impression.

Its blend of spicy top notes and a warm, woody base creates a balanced fragrance that’s both modern and classic. Ideal for everyday wear, it suits those who appreciate a sophisticated, understated aroma. In essence, B683 is a thoughtful choice for anyone seeking a quality perfume that complements a traditional style with a contemporary edge.

An Ode to the Mums of Stranger Things

0

Stranger Things is a show about ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Aside from Eleven, the heroes of the show are a ragtag troop of tweens, teens and parents from the Midwest fighting off supernatural monsters. Amongst them are the mums, who, in my humble opinion, really deserve a special shout-out. Because not only are they taking on 9-foot-tall demogorgons, they’re also fighting battles on other fronts, too: they’re juggling hormonal teens, useless husbands (or ex-husbands) and a heavy dose of good old-fashioned 1980s small town America misogyny.

Courtesy of Netflix

Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) is the most obvious example of a badass mum. Mother to Will and Jonathan, her life is already hard enough before the Upside Down starts leaking into Hawkins. She’s a single mum working long hours at a local store to provide for her sons. The boys’ father is decidedly useless – especially when Will goes missing and his only interest is the potential payout. Joyce becomes convinced that Will is speaking to her through the lights in their home and begins raging around her quaint little town demanding answers and help. She is, of course, dismissed as the slightly nutty single mum who failed. It’s a stereotype that the people of Hawkins are all too ready and willing to embrace.

Watching Joyce fight not only the supernatural forces threatening her family, but also the ignorance and judgement of her humdrum neighbours makes you want to throw a fist in the air and cheer her on. In season 1, she doggedly sets up Christmas lights and finds her son. Throughout the rest of the show, she’s continued to bring this steadfast, bulldog energy. She’s tiny, clumsy, and looks wholly unprepared for any battle. But, of course, as a mum, she throws herself in front of her boys without a second thought.

Karen Wheeler (Cara Buono) is, in many ways, Joyce’s foil. The mother of Nancy, Mike and Holly, Karen is, in many ways, a stereotypical suburban housewife, complete with lazy, clued out husband, a million plates to juggle and a bit of an afternoon wine problem. She spends her blissful free time, of which there is not that much, soaking in a bubble bath with a dirty book or ogling the hot teen lifeguard at the local pool.

Best Foods for Sleep: Kiwis, Walnuts, and More

0

The temperature of warm milk—while not scientifically proven to help with sleep—can have a soothing psychological effect. It may be comforting, or part of a relaxing bedtime ritual, which can help calm the body and mind. If you’re not a fan of plain milk, try adding a dash of cinnamon or a drop of vanilla for extra flavor. If you’re lactose intolerant, opt for lactose-free milk, which provides the same nutrients without the lactose sugar.

Seaweed

Seaweed might not be the first thing that comes to mind for sleep support, but this ocean superfood has some surprising benefits. Rich in iodine, seaweed supports healthy thyroid function, which plays a key role in regulating your metabolism and energy levels, both of which can impact your sleep-wake cycle. It’s also a source of magnesium.

What makes seaweed even more appealing is its versatility. Whether you’re snacking on roasted seaweed sheets, adding wakame to a bowl of miso soup, or sprinkling dulse flakes over your evening salad, it’s an easy and delicious way to incorporate sleep-supporting nutrients into your diet. For a one-two punch in the sleep-support department, try wrapping roasted seaweed sheets around slices of creamy avocado, another magnesium-rich food, to create a simple, satisfying snack that’s perfect for winding down.

Pumpkin seeds

Pumpkin seeds are the ultimate bedtime ally, packed with nutrients that support relaxation and better sleep. Just an ounce delivers nearly 150 mg of magnesium, which is a hefty amount relative to most other foods. They’re also a source of tryptophan, which helps your body produce serotonin and melatonin for restful slumber.

Snack on them roasted with a pinch of sea salt, sprinkle them over yogurt, or packed into a trail mix. They’re also a source of healthy fats and protein, which help keep you full through the night. Pair them with a calming herbal tea, like chamomile or lemon balm, for the ultimate wind-down routine.

Sweet dreams are made of these

What you eat in the evening may do more than satisfy your hunger; it can also help prepare your body for a restful night. From the melatonin in tart cherries to the magnesium in pumpkin seeds, the best foods for sleep offer natural ways to support relaxation and better sleep.

While these foods can be a great addition to your bedtime routine, they work best alongside healthy sleep habits. A calming wind-down ritual, a consistent schedule, and minimizing screens before bed (sorry to the late-night Instagram scrollers!) can all enhance your chances of waking up refreshed. If sleep challenges persist, don’t hesitate to seek advice from a health care professional, as ongoing issues may signal an underlying condition.

Edgewell posts mixed FY2025 results as company prepares to exit feminine care category

0

Edgewell Personal Care has released its fourth quarter and full-year results, highlighting steadier international demand, heavier promotional activity in North America and a major portfolio change with the planned sale of its Feminine Care division to Swedish health and personal care company Essity for $340 million early next year.

In a press statement, Ulrika Kolsrud, President and CEO of Essity welcomed the news of the sale, sharing, “with this acquisition we are building a stronger personal care business in North America, in line with our strategy to focus on high yielding categories in attractive geographies.”

The update gives industry stakeholders a clearer view of how the company is reshaping its priorities heading into FY2026.

Q4 2025 overview

Edgewell saw modest sales growth in the fourth quarter with a reported $537.2 million, an increase of 3.8% compared to Q4 2024. Largely driven by international markets, the company’s Wet Shave, Feminine Care and Sun and Skin Care categories performed well outside the United States while the North American market remained more promotional, especially in sun care.

“International markets continued to deliver durable growth,” Rod Little, Edgewell’s president and chief executive officer, shared in a press statement, adding that Edgewell pushed ahead on innovation through “consumer-led launches across key regions.”

Characterizing the period as a “year of challenge and transformation,” Little pointed to “encouraging momentum marked by improving sales and market share trends and a revitalized brand portfolio” as the company closed the period.

He added that the focus for fiscal 2026 will be tighter execution and margin recovery. “Importantly, we believe Edgewell now has the team, structure and capabilities in place to return to organic sales growth in 2026,” he said.

He further described the sale of the Feminine Care business as “a pivotal step in transforming Edgewell into a more focused, agile and consumer-driven personal care company.”

Category performance

Wet Shave

The category, which includes men’s systems, women’s systems, disposables, and shave preps, saw a net sales increase of $3.7 million, or 1.2% in Q4 2025. As detailed in the company’s reporting, shave demand held up globally, though the North American market softened due to lighter volumes and more frequent promotions.

Sun and Skin Care

Sun care posted solid volume gains and continues to be one of Edgewell’s more active categories with a Q4 2025 net sales increase of $15.3 million, or 11.5%. The company noted, however, that higher marketing and operating costs weighed on profitability.

Feminine Care

Feminine Care delivered a small uptick in sales, led by liners and tampons. With the business set to be sold to Essity for $340 million, category activity this year serves more as a bridge to the company’s forthcoming streamlined portfolio.

Best Moisturizers for Dry, Oily, & Combo Skin

0

Applying a moisturizer daily is an important step in maintaining balanced, hydrated skin. But have you ever wondered what a moisturizer actually does and why you need it? Get the details on how moisturizers work and how they benefit your skin with our moisturizer guide.

Whether your skin is oily, dry, combination, or sensitive, you need a moisturizer. “Choosing the right moisturizer for your skin will ensure you stay hydrated and protected, and keep premature signs of aging at bay,” explains Anna De La Cruz, Glo’s VP of Product.

Why Is Moisturizer Important?

“When a skin cell is born and starts its journey through the epidermis, it’s plump and juicy and filled with about 90% moisture,” explains Anna. “Visualize a grape. As it travels through the layers nearing the outer and uppermost section of the epidermis, the stratum corneum, it has lost water content along the way. By the end of its journey, skin cells in the stratum corneum are believed to have only about 10% moisture content. So, where it started as a grape, it ends up as a raisin. This makes sense though when you think about what the skin’s number one job is: protection. We want a strong, fortified outer layer to guard against intruders. We can’t underestimate the importance of maintaining proper surface hydration of our skin. And this is where a moisturizer comes into play.”

The skin’s number one job is protection. We want a strong, fortified outer layer of protection to guard against intruders. This is known as skin’s moisture barrier and this needs to be healthy for skin to feel even and glowing. If your moisture barrier is damaged, skin can feel dry, flaky, and tight. Moisturizers help strengthen and support your skin’s moisture barrier, and you can choose moisturizers to specifically target this repair.

When a skin cell is born and starts its journey through the epidermis its contents are about 90% moisture. By the end of its journey, a skin cell’s moisture content will have decreased to about 10%. This is where your face cream or moisturizer can help replenish any lost moisture. HA-Revive Hyaluronic Hydrator is great for this.

Natural moisturizing factor (NMF) helps maintain proper hydration by attracting and absorbing water from the atmosphere and holding on to it with naturally present water-soluble compounds. NMF is only found in the stratum corneum (the outer and upper most section of the epidermis).

Moisturizers are typically made up of ingredients that fall into the following categories: humectants, emollients and occlusives.

  • Humectants attract water and include ingredients like hyaluronic acid, panthenol, glycerin, and sodium PCA.
  • Emollients act as lubricants and soften the skin. Emollients are found in ingredients such as jojoba oil, squalane, and shea butter.
  • Occlusives help slow water loss and evaporation and can be found in dimethicone, cyclomethicone, and caprylic/capric triglyceride.

Dehydrated skin is not functioning optimally which means the skin’s natural exfoliation process is disrupted which can lead to dull, flaky, lackluster skin. It can also contribute to easily irritated, sensitized, reactive skin.

In cold winter conditions it’s important to add an extra moisture boost to your ritual, such as a heavier texture moisturizer, a face oil (if you don’t have oily skin), and to have a humidifier run at night.

How To Choose the Best Moisturizer For Your Skin

Best Moisturizers For Oily or Acne-Prone Skin

Even with oily skin, it’s still important to include a moisturizer in your routine, as oily skin can also lack hydration. Our top picks for oily skin feature featherlight formulas that are instantly absorbed by the skin.

  • Oil Control Emulsion: Our lightest formula, this emulsion works to actively reduce shine, which can help reduce breakouts. Because it is more of a liquid formula, make sure to wait a few minutes before applying any additional products to avoid pilling (when your product balls up on your skin).
  • Oil Free Moisturizer: One of our top sellers that never disappoints. Choose Oil Free Moisturizer over Oil Control Emulsion if acne/excess shine is less of an issue.
  • Phyto-Calm Aloe Hydrator: A light and soothing formulation, it cools and calms skin while adding plenty of weightless hydration.

Best Moisturizers For Combination Skin

If some parts of your face feel oily, while the other parts are dry, you probably have combination skin. Luckily, combination skin usually isn’t oily enough for excessive breakouts, or dry enough for an intense cream. Look for products that adequately hydrate and moisturize, without leaving you feeling greasy.

  • HA-Revive Hyaluronic Hydrator: This moisturizer offers many of the same anti-aging benefits as some of our heavier creams but in a lightweight formula that’s great for most skin types.
  • Hydra-Bright AHA Hydrator: Offering instant illumination to any skin type, this treatment moisturizer features AHAs and vitamin C to brighten, reenergize, and hydrate.
  • Oil Free Moisturizer: If your skin has some shine and is prone to breakouts, try this oil-free moisturizer option, infused with lightweight hydrators.
  • Bio-Renew EGF Moisturizer: Our newest and most exciting moisturizer, it’s powered by vegan EGF (epidermal growth factor) and phyto-retinol and is clinically proven to reduce signs of aging while hydrating and brightening in just 30 days.

“With combination skin you can also zone your moisturizers, using a oil-free moisturizer for your T-zone and a more hydrating moisturizer for any dry patches,” adds Anna.

Best Moisturizers for Dry Skin

If you have dry skin, you know it and nine times out of 10, you’re also dehydrated. Those with dry skin experience tight, itchy and even chapped skin that can appear flakey or dull. With less natural oil, it is imperative to use a heavier formula that actively replenishes the lack of hydration. Rely on these moisturizing products for dry skin.

  • Restorative Cream: The go-to moisturizer for very dry skin, this cream helps repair dry, dehydrated skin.
  • Vita E Essential Cream: For dry and sensitive skin, Vita E delivers critical moisture while also soothing redness and irritation.
  • Phyto-Calm Aloe Hydrator: A light and soothing formulation, it cools and calms skin while adding plenty of deep hydration.
  • HA-Revive Hyaluronic Hydrator: This moisturizer is powered by hyaluronic acid which is essential for dry skin types, helping to repair and strengthen skin’s moisture barrier.
  • Bio-Renew EGF Moisturizer: This rich hydrator is clinically proven to boost skin’s moisture levels and repair skin barrier function—perfect for dry, dehydrated, and aging skin.

All skin types can also benefit from adding HA-Revive Hyaluronic Drops into their ritual, either adding 4-6 drops before applying your moisturizer, or adding 2-3 drops into your moisturizer, for a surge of hydration,” shares Anna.

Best Anti-Aging Moisturizer

Dry skin can lead to signs of aging appearing earlier. If you have dry skin and see signs of aging, whether they’re faint fine lines or deep wrinkles, adding in an aging cream to your routine can help minimize this.

Bio-Renew EGF Moisturizer: This moisturizer will be a game-changer in your anti-aging ritual. Clinically proven to reduce the signs of aging as well as brighten and hydrate, the dream team of vegan EGF (epidermal growth factor) and phyto-retinol gives it a power most ordinary moisturizers don’t have. Use every day for 30 days and see the results for yourself.

How To Find Your Perfect Halo Hair Extension Shade

0

Shopping for hair extensions online can be tricky, especially when you can’t see or feel them in real life. Of course, you’d want to find the right match that blends seamlessly with your natural hair, giving you fullness and length without anyone guessing you’re wearing extensions.

But, unlike lipstick or blush, finding your perfect Halo hair extension shade isn’t as simple as picking the color you think you are. Undertones, lighting, and the natural variations in your own strands all play a role.

That’s why we created this guide: to take the guesswork out of choosing The Halo. With side-by-side shade comparisons, expert blending tips, and an easy path to finding your best match, let this blog be your ultimate shade-match handbook.

The Halo Color Comparison Chart

Extensions aren’t one-size-fits-all. Your best shade depends not just on whether you’re blonde, brunette, or somewhere in between, but also on the undertones that run through your strands. Let’s break it down:

Blondes

  1. Beach Blonde (#20C): A soft, sunkissed blonde with warm undertones, perfect if your hair picks up golden tones in the sunlight.
  2. The Go-To Blonde (#613/10): A bright, classic blonde that works beautifully for those with light golden or honey hues.
  3. Golden Sand Blonde (#613): A rich, yellow-based blonde with warmth, great for natural blondes who lean more golden than platinum.
  4. Cool Blonde Blend (#18/6): A neutral-to-cool shade, ideal for smoky, ashy blondes or anyone who avoids brassy tones.
  5. Soft Sources (#10/6): A low-maintenance favorite that sits between blonde and brunette—a multidimensional caramel-meets-taupe shade that flatters almost everyone.

Brunettes

  1. Soft Chestnut Brown (#4/6): A warm, medium brown with subtle copper undertones that catch the light beautifully.
  2. The Go-To Brunette (#4): A timeless chocolate brown, versatile enough to suit most medium to dark brunettes.
  3. Espresso Brown Blend (#2/4): A deeper brunette with rich depth and subtle warmth—like your favorite latte.
  4. Rich Chocolate Brown (#2): A dark, indulgent brunette with golden lowlights for a sophisticated finish.
  5. Black Brown (#1B): The darkest shade in the collection—deep, glossy, and natural-looking without the harshness of jet black.

Sitting Pretty Tip: Pay attention to your undertones, not just your overall color, especially towards the ends of your hair. If your natural hair has hints of ash, you’ll likely lean toward the cooler blends. If it reflects gold or red in the sun, warmer shades will feel more natural.

How To Seamlessly Blend Your Halo

Even if you’ve nailed the right shade, your Halo should look like it’s growing from your own scalp. The secret? Proper blending. Luckily, this is easier than it sounds. We recommend checking out this stylist’s tips on seamless blending—or checking out our tips below.

Halo Blending Do’s & Don’ts

Do:

  • Section with purpose. Always leave enough natural hair over The Halo wire to cover it completely.
  • Add texture. Curling your natural hair and extensions together creates softness and dimension, hiding any lines of separation.
  • Use dry shampoo. It adds grip and body to freshly washed hair, helping The Halo sit naturally.
  • Consider a cut! Ask your stylist to trim or layer your Halo so it flows with your haircut. This is especially game-changing for blunt cuts!

Don’t:

  • Don’t skip undertone matching. Even if the color seems close, ignoring undertones can make extensions look “off” in certain lighting.
  • Don’t overbrush. Brushing aggressively can loosen The Halo and create an unnatural fall. Stick to gentle detangling.
  • Don’t forget lighting. Always check your Halo in natural daylight; indoor lighting can make colors appear warmer or darker than they are.

What If You’re Between Shades?

Many women find themselves somewhere between two colors. If that’s you, don’t stress—it’s actually a great thing. Choosing a slightly lighter or darker Halo can create natural-looking depth, almost like built-in highlights or lowlights.

For example: If your blonde is a mix of golden and ashy tones, blending a Golden Sand Blonde with a Cool Blonde Blend will give you dimension. But, if you’re a brunette with lighter ends from sun or styling, the Soft Chestnut Brown might layer beautifully with your darker base.

Extensions are meant to add richness and texture, not uniformity. A little variation can actually make your hair look more natural.

When in doubt, go lighter as you can easily tone it darker. Bleaching The Halo is a big no-no since it can alter the texture and look of the hair extensions.
