Inolex explains that LexFeel Enhance MB was designed to work with bemotrizinol and other organic UV filters with the aim of facilitating the formulation of solar products “stable, pleasant to use and with high FPS“. Its polymeric structure makes it possible to create anti-UV protection systems that are more thermodynamically stable while improving the aesthetics of the formula. Inolex indicates that in vivo tests have demonstrated that LexFeel Enhance MB offers a booster effect of 25 to 30% within the systems evaluated, making it easier to obtain an SPF 50.
“Inolex is excited to introduce a new ingredient that boosts SPF and provides a sensory experience that encourages consumers to apply and reapply the product“, explain Art Knox, president of Inolex.
Improved sensory properties and stability
Beyond UV protection, the company emphasizes that the sensory characteristics of sun protection products play a key role in their acceptance by consumers. “Aesthetics, and not protection, remains the main criticism that consumers level against sun protection products. Too many formulas are perceived as heavy, greasy or sticky“, explains Inolex.
It is precisely their sensory qualities that have ensured the growing popularity of Korean and Japanese sunscreen products around the world.
LexFeel Enhance MB is positioned as an alternative to traditional solubilizersit makes it easier to spread products on the skin for more even coverage. It provides added radiance and shine without an oily feeling, as well as a final feeling of hydration and comfort.
Inolex also states that its ingredient stabilizes bemotrizinol more effectively than the reference emollients. According to company data, a 5% concentration of LexFeel Enhance MB can solubilize and stabilize 6% bemotrizinol for up to 12 weeks at 4°C in sunscreen formulations. For comparison, formulas containing 5% C12-15 alkyl benzoate, Dibutyl Adipate (DBA) or Dicaprylyl Carbonate remained stable for less than four weeks under the same conditions. The company notes that twice as many of these reference emollients are often required to achieve comparable stability, which can alter the sensory profile of the final formula.
Global opportunities
While bemotrizinol has been used in sunscreens in Europe, Asia and Australia for several years, Inolex says its recent approval in the United States opens up new formulation opportunities, not only in this market, but also globally. According to the company, LexFeel Enhance MB provides a solution for formulators around the world seeking optimal aesthetics and stability for their sun protection products.
This launch also reflects Inolex’s approach to new developments. The company says it relies on R&D accelerated by artificial intelligence to reduce the time between design and marketing, with the aim of offering safe, ecological and more efficient ingredients more quickly.
