Chappell Roan exists on her own plane, uninterested in starting trends, even less interested in following them, but always creating a major beauty commotion with every public appearance. That said, her attendance at Paris Fashion Week’s Acne Studios show—the way she wore her famously fiery hair—suggests she may adhere to a few select of-the-moment aesthetics after all.

Roan was front row for Acne Studios’ fall/winter presentation, looking more than ready to walk the runway herself in a boned, lacy, gray, high-neck dress. But instead of her long, curly, auburn hair flowing over the details of the frock, it was tucked into a faux bob with a little curl sitting slightly off-center on her forehead.

It’s not entirely clear if hairstylist Lacy Redway hid her abundant hair up and underneath or stuffed it into the back of the dress, but if it was the latter, Roan would be exhibiting one of the biggest trends to emerge from the recent New York Fashion week runways: the hair tuck. Models at both 7 for All Mankind and Christian Siriano were seen with their hair pushed into high-neck garments.

The vibe also fully fits an emerging aesthetic: the weird art school girl.

Instagram and TikTok creator Elysia Berman has been singing the trend’s praises since late January. “I could not care less about serving quiet luxury. I wanna give thinker, poet, artist, lover, dreamer … I wanna see messy clothes, messy hair, messy nails—all symbols of a life well-lived,” she says, framing it as a pushback on AI’s lack of humanity. “I wanna see people who inspire me, people who aren’t afraid to be a little weird and be a little different.”
